Oh I also have a less important scud question r.e. reproduction just because I'm not sure I fully understand the genetics there. Like I know how plants do it, I'm a full on botanist, so alternation of generations I get but like…so the haploid generation have two sexes which mate and I guess there's where chiasmata happens, but then one of those (the arguably female one) goes off and fertilises haploid eggs in the diploids?

Only way I can reconcile it is that the female haploids receive gametes from the male haploids, which combine to form a diploid zygote that subsequently undergoes mitosis and meiosis into new (haploid) gametes containing a random mix of genes from both haploid parents, which are then used to fertilise the haploid eggs of the diploid parent. Which also means that the male haploid stage are male, but the female haploid stage are sequentially female and then male in function.

Or, arguably, they've actually got three alternating generations involved, like whatever's going on with red algae on our world. With a second, highly reduced, diploid gen that exists only temporarily to enable the shuffling of genes from two haploid parents into new haploid gametes, that are delivered by the female haploid parents.

Sorry I had to make a diagram to explain what I mean. Does this make sense or am I missing something and have charged off down a completely inane path?

Yeah that's basically it! Every scud has three parents, and the largest genetic donor is the egg-laying sex. Red algae were actually a major inspiration for this because I love their horrible convoluted lifecycle. Rhodophytes likely evolved it as compensation for losing sperm flagella (and thus, the ability to move their sperm). Maybe the same thing happened to the early ancestors of the "arthropodal" clade that scuds belong to.

cyn has the same hairstyle as tessa, and in episode 2 we see a flashback of cyn hiding behind tessa, but in episode 5 we see tessa not happy to see cyn, do you think

do you think that tessa, rescuing cyn she loved her maybe as much as J and N (we dont know about tessa and V's relationship, which is odd but im not sure if we are meant to look much into it since the murder drones is 8 episodes long)

and so tessa gave little cyn her toys, made her hair cute, gave her a bow like her etc etc, like she would a little sister

but with time, cyn started acting... not like her?

THINK ABOUT IT cyn and the solver are not the same, but cyn is a zombie drone, so ever since she "woke up" at the drone dump, she has had the solver in her, maybe even talking to her?

maybe cyn grew to realize how terrible the humans treated her, and the absolute solver was giving her a... solution

and so, cyn began using the solver, her creepy powers, do you think the scary shadow when she is about to atack the humans + whatever happens in the "tea with N" scene is on purpouse?

and tessa realized, this "cyn" was not just a sweet little drone, but could be a threat to what she had, that being her little "peace" with N J and V, where her parents didnt threaten to kill her drones 24/7

and so, she began to not like cyn that much, even avoiding her, giving cyn (who was abandoned in a dump) to have even more reasons to not trust the humans, to hate them, and even more reasons to listen to this "absolute solver" friend

this is the ask about ninth house and dantes inferno, from someone who loves both and woud love to hear the theories!

i feel like this is less theories and more analysis of textual influence. while we don't get the one to one journey into hell comparison there is a lot of things that perk my interest as a little literary goblin. truly truly there's way to much for me to get into all the little things that i think have a connection to dante, but i will get into some of the basic characteristics of hell and how they are mimicked in hellbent, along with the more direct literary references. however if you want another post about other parts(the leopard, lion and she-wolf characteristics being able to be transplanted onto alex,, the call into hell/darlington & beatrice comparisons,, the roles of virgil and dante,, etc.) , i will do it.

ok, brace your self for a far too short analysis

the most glaring reference we get to dante's inferno is bardugo labeling part 2 "the descent"[242] directly after dante's canto 2. not to mention the titles of lethe themselves being derived from the story. i cannot find it but i believe someone in either hellbent or ninth house say "abandon all hope ye who enter here" (if anyone can find where this is said i would be eternally grateful). ok so, it's known that leigh took some inspiration from dante, but let's get into how she characterizes hell in comparison to dante's version.

the beginning of canto 1 and chapter 27 start very similar. in dante's inferno(working from John Ciardi's translation), we start alone in a "dark wood" which is is "so rank, so arduous" that "it's very memory gives a shape to fear" [1.3-7], with a dawn sky over head. in hellbent we start in a similar state. alex finds herself alone, in an orchard, feeling afraid, confused, and lost. specifically the journey was supposed to cause fear, just as the forest for the lost souls in the first canto.

then just as the group find the hope of getting darlington, they are attacked by wolves. while wolves and dogs make multiple appearances in the inferno, the most notable is the she-wolf seen in that first canto, right before virgil comes in. if this is a one to one comparison(not suggesting it should be), than these wolves are the counterpart to the leopard, lion, and she-wolf. they represent the sins committed by the group, while also preventing them from bringing their and darlingtons soul to safety, or salvation.

i could go into more details about other things that come to fortition when looking at hellbent through the lens of dante's inferno. i would love to talk about alex and the wolves in the inferno, but i could fully write a 10 page paper on it if i wanted to. honestly if you already like/own/have read the inferno, i just recommend reading the two books in tandem to each other. it's fascinating.

personal fav horror games?

i m never great at coming up with lists of favourites, mostly cause i have real bad memory issues n often forget a lot of specifics about games i play.. v.v

but if i had to try n pick standout all-time favourites!! on the survival horror side, i love soma (i still think about the setting n ending to this day..), amnesia: a machine for pigs (frictional games did the chinese room dirty), and pathologic 2. as far as rpg maker and visual novel type titles go, i really enjoy world of horror & the hello charlotte series.

recently i ve been playing some ps1 & ps2 horror games i really dig, too. i picked up an english patch for a ps1 game called ...iru! and while it's not actually that great of a game, it's still an obscure n interesting lil thing. on the ps2 i ve been playing fatal frame, and though im still pretty early on in it, it's super unique and i like it

Favourite Harry Potter movies scenes?

Ooooo I’m so excited about this question even though I’m sure it was sent in over a year ago and I just didn’t see it because my tumblr inbox never updates me—anyway!

My all time favorite scene is when Harry is opening his first broomstick and Oliver Wood’s eyes bug out of his head. I can see it now and it makes me laugh.

Any scene that happens in the Burrow! I love seeing the house throughout the various movies. I even love the scene where George loses an ear and cracks a joke. Those two are my favorites.

When Professor McGonagall says “I’ve always wanted to use that spell.” in the last film. The music and the scenery are just amazing.

When Ron is totally gobsmacked with the love potion and loses his crap. Funnies thing ever!

Even though it’s horribly heartbreaking, I do like the scene where all the wizards raise their wands for Dumbledore (even though he totally wasn’t worth it and I hate him).
