SCOM Hettie is a fan of Human Realm Medical Shows...

She generally enjoys Scrubs -- Dr. Kelso is THE BEST.

She's a fan of M.A.S.H. (@rfswitchart and I are debating who her favorite character would be.)

But she has a VERY BIG crush on Doctor Gregory House. Those blue eyes. His gentle bedside manners. The way he talks about Lupus!

She's smitten. Seriously. Why hasn't Wilson just run off with the guy yet? Eh. That means he's still available!

So one day she sneaks through the portal and decides to woo Dr. House in the way of her people.

Kidnapping...

Clearly her sister is MORTIFIED. This is uncivilized and she assures Hettie that the traditional way for their species to court potential mates is not KIDNAPPING, rather you take a nap together, and when you are well rested, you discuss if you want to have children!

SCOM! Hettie is a menace and must be stopped.

From Adrian's Parole Hearing:

“Oh look! Graye’s living up to his name.” Raine elbowed Hunter. They shared a chuckle.

It was true.

His hair had grayed. His skin was dry, like it had been dipped in plaster. His face looked as if he had tried to shave, but lacked a mirror. Face gaunt. Sneer intact. His eyes flicked over to where Hunter sat.

“HEY! ADRIAN!” Hettie called out.

“Don’t talk to him!” Steve hissed. “This is a COURT OF LAW!”

SCOM Micro Writing Notes: Guilt.

There's a lot of guilt explored in SCOM. Obviously, Hunter has his own guilt of his past under Belos -- but he also experiences the guilt of those around him.

With the Sigil Sickness becoming more of a concern, Hunter has to accept the fact that he branded witches under Belos -- and this led to families losing their loved ones.

Hettie is problematic in so many ways -- and even though she has a loving family, including a nephew who adores her -- Bettie implies that sometimes even those you love choose paths that make it VERY difficult for you to love them.

It's fair to assume that while Bettie (and likely her siblings) LOVE Hettie, they struggle with liking her.

In general, she has been one of the most fun background characters to write and I kind of love her family. That's about as close to OC's as I am going to get attached to.

In an earlier chapter, Hettie mentioned that not only did she have a hand in the beginnings of the Basilisk Experiments, but the "perfection" of the Sigil. She admits that there shouldn't BE a Sigil Sickness -- but her research is the reason that Bettie lost her husband (Bennie's Dad), and why the Cutburn Matriarch (The siblings mother) passed.

She may lack tact and a TON of self awareness, but it's safe to say that Hettie -- who in spite of turning her back on Hunter as an abused child soldier -- LOVES her nephew. It's safe to say she holds guilt to what she's done if even only as to how it directly affected her own kin.

And then there's Darius.

Cutburn Sisters asks open! 🤷‍♀️

Feeling surprisingly attached to SCOM OCs (or partial OCs like Josh).

This comes after writing a scene with Hettie and her sister which went longer than expected, because it was such a blast to write.

I’m really bad with OCs (main characters at least) but I’m having a great time with these side ones.

As I mentioned, Bettie and Bennie’s main appearance arcs are done in SCOM, but I have ideas for them if I get to a follow up.

Same with “Josh” who was a background character in TOH.

SCOM Next Chapter Preview!

Pretty noose is pretty hate...

Tomorrow's chapter is ALMOST THERE and Hunter has a ton of rage -- but this mostly closes out the False Golden Guard arc as it had been established A YEAR AGO?!?!?!?!?! I hope you all enjoyed that ride.

After this we will be heading to the Inner Circle Parole Hearings. Or at least the first of the three.

Like… can you imagine holidays at the Cutburn house?

She truly thinks she’s making things better.

“Well it IS.” Hettie said. “To think that a FLESH AND BLOOD species is unable to feel an emotion because of how you were born! Let me tell you, your biology is all based on ortet! Your guts would be different than some witches and demons – lack of bile sac? Yep. But that’s got NOTHING to do with all that other stuff! If I were to get you in a lab right now and open you up, I could PROVE that –”

“Um.” Hunter blinked. “Please don’t?” he cringed at the image of Hettie cutting him open.

“Hettie …” Bettie must have sensed his discomfort. “What have we said about discussing your unique hobbies with others?” she shook her head.

“I WAS JUST SAYING ‘ IF ’ BETTIE!” Hettie argued back.

SCOM Writing Notes: HFC

Hettie is the queen (of unsolicited pregnancy advice.) Really, sometimes I crack myself up when I write her dialogue but her advice (non magical of course) is 100% accurate to things people have said to me or my friends during our pregnancy.

Even medical professionals! I did not expect to enjoy writing Hettie so much. When I first began teasing her, I knew immediately that she was going to be a strong personality ... and of course that she was not dead.

I loved the idea of Tinella Nosa's conspiracy theory being accurate that she was kidnapped by the government.

I also knew that she had a large tight knit family who actually cared about her.

She's not a great person/witch by any means. She definitely performed some really shady stuff under Belos and Hunter has every right to be wary of her. Her moral compass has more magnetic norths than... (insert something clever here). She also assigned several healers to treat Hunter when his injuries were too great for him to manage on his own and reported their behavior to Belos who had them "relocated" if they seemed to suspect something was up.

On the other hand, Hettie seems to genuinely care for her own young nephew (who is as young as Hunter is in the photo of him watching the petrification). We will meet Bennie Cutburn in a few chapters and learn more about the Cutburn family and their -- biology?

We known Hettie testified against the trio -- but Darius stated that she also has been an informant behind the scenes ever since.

So. Should Hunter and Willow trust Hettie?

Also, next chapter Hunter willingly walks into Perry's studio to deliver a few bombshells.

And Severine's hearing is on the way!

“TITAN! You are TOUCHY!” Hettie chuckled. She took a big bite of a roll, “Don’t stress, boy. Expectant fathers often experience a rush of symptoms when their mate is having a bad pregnancy.”

Hunter slid his eyes up to glare, but Hettie was unphased.

SCOM Next Chapter Preview:

The next chapter is VERY much a work in progress, but expect some stuff regarding that cliffhanger for sure. I have about 4 MORE big reveals coming up by the end of the story.

But of course, I will need to indulge in some fun interaction with these two. I love writing my chapters in dual timelines.

“Hey boy, will you pass the bread?” Hettie pointed a large finger at a basket of rolls in the middle of the table in the boardroom.

Hunter and Willow shared a look. Viney bit her lip and nudged Bo who rolled her eyes. The rolls may have been in the middle, but Hunter and Hettie were on opposite sides of the very long table, and there were several witches that were closer who could pass the bread far easier.

“You’re a witch, Hettie." Hunter's eyes slid to his roach beast. He poked it with a fork. "Why don’t you like, you know? Use the force or something?”

“Ah. Star Wars reference. Cute.” Hettie gave a long sigh.
