warnings: swearing, mention of donno being a hitman, donno beats someone up, blood
I walked into the diner and sat down at the counter. Tonya looked over at me before disappearing into the back. She came back out and sat down next to me.
“he’s baking a pie.” She muttered as she looked me over. I nodded. “I know I don’t have to tell you but he’ll be a while.” I nodded again. “What did you need?”
“Donno knows what it is.” I muttered. Tonya nodded and interlocked her fingers expectantly. “I need donno to do his thing.” Tonya raised an eyebrow at me. I rolled my eyes and tried to fight a smile. “Ok his other thing.”
“I don’t know the exact nature of your relationship with donno,” Tonya said, hands raised and trying to fight a smile. “But I do not want to know what donnos thing is.” The smile broke through and I had to fight not to burst out laughing during the afternoon tea of half the diner.
“his hit man thing Tonya.” I breathed out when I got control back. Tonya nodded, smile still in place as she put a hand on my back.
“yeah I figured.” She said. “Just needed to get you out of that serious streak.” I hung my head and laughed quietly. “It’s that guy again isn’t it?”
“Tonya I don’t know what I’d do without you sometimes.” I sighed. “Yeah. He came in to work today and tried to hassle me. Boss cut me early since it was causing a bit of a scene trying to get rid of him.” Tonya nodded and we waited in silence for a bit before I broke it. “I’m worried he’ll come back and that time it’ll cost me my job.” Tonya turned to look at me as donno came behind the counter. He nodded to Tonya and stopped in front of me.
“no he won’t.” Donno said. I looked up at him and Tonya left. “Where does he work?”
“I don’t know.” I answered. Donno nodded and he flexed his hand at his side. “I just have his name. I asked Cassie to find out some things so I could get a restraining order but…”
“he’ll violate it.” Donno nodded. “She won’t be able to help.” I nodded. “What do you want me to do?” I shrugged.
“scare him?” I said. “Hurt him a little?” Donno looked at me and his eyes softened slightly. “I’d honestly ask you to…you know…”
“you don’t want me to do that.” He said. I nodded.
“I would.” I cut in. Donno frowned.
“no you wouldn’t.” He shook his head. “You’re too much of a good person.” I smiled at him. “I’ll scare him for you though.” I nodded.
“thank you.” I breathed out. We looked at each other in silence for a bit before the door opened. Donno frowned as he looked up and I focused on his hand flexing again. He discreetly jerked his thumb towards the kitchen and I got up. In my haste, I caught a glimpse of the guy that had been giving me a hard time about going out with him.
“there you are (Y/N).” He said. I froze in fear. Donno quickly made his way around the counter and stood next to me, sliding his hand into mine. He squeezed and I didn’t know if it was for my benefit or his. I could feel him tug me behind him and I moved slowly as Donna stared down my tormentor. “Come on (Y/N) don’t be like that. I thought we had something special and here I find you with this…thing.” He waved a hand at Donno who scowled at the man.
“I suggest you leave. Now. Before the situation gets worse.” Donno said. The two stared each other down and Tonya snuck out of the kitchen to stand by the counter.
“I believe I’m talking to (Y/N) buddy.” Donno tightened his grip on my hand and I could see his shoulders tense up.
“Customers donno.” Tonya whispered. There was a slight turn of his head before donno let go of me and started to walk over to the guy. “(Y/N)…” Tonya called softly, holding her hand out for me.
“(Y/N), let’s talk this out. Give me a chance. I know it’s hard to get someone but you don’t have to stoop so low as this asshole.” I frowned and watched as Donno grabbed the guys shirt and pulled him outside. I ran towards the window to watch donno drag him towards the back of the dinner.
“you don’t want to see this.” Tonya said as she put her hand on my shoulder. I shook my head.
“I do.” I said. “I need to make sure…” Tonya sighed and shook her head.
“Donno is good at his job.” She whispered. “Let him do his job.” I turned to look at her and she smiled softly at me. “He can’t do his job if he knows you are there or watching. Donno will take care of this.” She squeezed my shoulder and I sighed.
“I supposed you’re right.” I breathed out. Tonya led me to the kitchen where the timer went off. “His pie is done.” I muttered as I took a seat at the counter. Tonya rushed over and grabbed the pie. She put it on the cooling rack in front of me and sat down next to me.
“I get now why you wanted donno to…” I nodded as she picked at her nails. “It won’t happen again. He’ll make sure of that.” We waited in silence for donno to come back through the back door. Even though we were expecting it, we still jumped when the door slammed open. Tonya rushed out to see what was left of the guy while I ran to donno. My fingers hovered over his face, trying to see if the blood spattered there was his own or not. Donno watched me as I tried to make the decision and leaned into my touch when I took too long.
“he won’t be bothering you again.” Donno whispered, closing his eyes and letting me fuss over him. I grabbed his hand and pulled him over to the sink. He pulled away and went to sit down next to his pie. His eyes flickered over to it while I grabbed some paper towels and wet them before moving to stand between his legs. I gently cleaned the blood off his face while he watched me.
“Is he…” I asked. Donno shook his head, reaching up to grab my hands.
“he’s alive. But he won’t go anywhere near you again.” He assured me. I nodded and breathed out a sigh of relief.
“thank you.” I smiled at him. Donno nodded and slowly stood up. “You reacted pretty strongly when he thought you were my partner.”
“I did.” Donno confirmed. He rubbed his thumb over my knuckles and I chuckled as realization washed over me.
“Donno, do you like me?” Donno nodded, a faint blush taking over his cheeks.
“I do.” He said with a nod. He squeezed his eyes shut and turned his head away for a second before looking at me again. “You like me.” I nodded. “Then it’s alright if I do this right?” Donno asked.
“do wh…?” I started to asked as donno leaned in and kissed me softly. I sighed and melted against him, letting him bring my hands to his chest as he moved to cup my cheeks. “Wow.” I breathed out as I leaned my head against his. Donno smiled at me and nodded.
“wow.” He agreed. Donno moved to hug me to him and I leaned in for another kiss.
“FINALLY!” Tonya yelled, making us both turn towards her. Donno rubbed my back soothingly as I jumped closer to him. He chuckled before turning back to me, smiling before kissing me again.

My QOTS 5x01 live reactions:
The “previously on” was so long lmao
I kinda hope Queen Teresa coming face to face with former self Teresa is a recurring thing this season. I like it.
JAMES VALDEZ IS ON MY SCREEN JAMES VALDEZ IS ON MY SCREEN MY HEART IS BEATING SO FAST
OMG SHARIF ATKINS IS IN THIS EPISODE? Is he in multiple episodes this season?? I am all for this!
The safe house looks nothing like I imagined, of course.
Suspecting James is still a dumb, awful, boring, waste of precious time Zzzzzzzzzz sideshow plot. Full offense. Not sorry.
…Devon gave James a parting gift after a job in Venezuela? How long until this detail comes back to haunt him?
“and she’s family” um…okay…then maybe you, in particular, Pote, should be THANKING him?
KA telling James he needs to follow the queen’s orders blindly is um…I mean if he just becomes a yes man to fit in, that’s bad writing.
Full offense/not sorry #2: George being the one on the rampage over this James thing is really silly.
And now Pote is defending James? WHAT IS THIS
Who is writing George’s character these days it can’t be Ryan O’Nan
Omg is Sharif Atkins a villain (villain adjacent?) character now? I am here for this.
$200 million in two days, nbd.
I like upset ticking time bomb Boaz. Him being off the rails actually makes sense. And Teresa is for sure gonna order him dead at some point.
“if you’re here to mess with her head” I’m sorry, what? If anyone has gotten their head messed with, it’s James.
Sure, make the guy with the gunshot wound lift the garage door. It’s fine. This is fine.
all these bad decisions being made (in season 4 fashion, lol) in NY while James has to prove himself is so cringe
James telling people to shoot him is like…his thing then?
Omg James Valdez don’t miss a shot. Even while recovering from his own GSW. At least keep him around for his prowess. JFC.
“Are you okay?” The better question, George, is are YOU okay?
Yo Boaz and Cecil bonding is a great scene. Boaz has had great character development! JT Campos is shining!

Okay, I LOVE analysis, I feel very strongly you need to make one on QOTS, if you're up for it (ofc). For instance Teresas relationship with Guero vs. James.
I can try! ❤️
So I think on some levels there’s actually a lot of similarities between Teresa’s relationship with Guero and with James.
She meets both of them at key points in her life where she’s struggling and both men help her overcome those situations in different ways.  But it’s really how they help her that marks the difference.
Guero definitely leans more towards a more materialistic support or even a dependency.  Obviously there’s love and even respect there, but I think on some level Guero also likes the idea of Teresa.  He likes having a beautiful woman on his arm that he can spoil and come home to at the end of a day.  Which really wasn’t a problem back in Sinaloa - they were both clearly happy and fine with this set-up and probably would have been for the rest of their lives.
But then Dallas happens and it changed Teresa and changed her whole dynamic with Guero.
After Dallas Teresa isn’t content to just let someone else take care of her.  She starts to focus on her own survival and future (which does include Guero when he returns).  But when her goals and ambitions don’t align with Guero’s you can see the conflict there - the selfishness in Guero and his desire to go back to how they were with Teresa’s ambitions and resentment for what happened.
And in the end it doesn’t last.  Guero is ultimately a past that no longer exists in Teresa’s present or future.
But James?  Even when James was helping to keep Teresa in Dallas, he was also trying to teach her.  Help her get smarter and better in all of this if she was going to stick around and survive.  And I think there’s an element of selfishness to James too - in the beginning he definitely helps more to protect himself and Camila, but as time goes on he does it because he wants Teresa to succeed and he’ll do anything to protect her.  Even put himself in harm’s way so that she can keep surviving.  And Teresa would do the same thing.
There’s a level of mutual respect and understanding to James and Teresa that wasn’t there for Guero and Teresa.  A degree of adaptability where they let each other grow and make mistakes and then communicate so that they can be partners, actual partners.
Because (to steal from Ryan O’Nan - I think lol) if Guero is Teresa’s past, then James is her future.

Trailer: Joe Carnahan's COPSHOP Starring Gerard Butler & Frank Grillo - Assault On Precinct 13 Meets John Wick
Trailer: Joe Carnahan’s COPSHOP Starring Gerard Butler & Frank Grillo – Assault On Precinct 13 Meets John Wick
Cophsop appears to be a gutsy, gun metal action flick from bullet-driven auteur, Joe Carnahan. Starring Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo, Copshop looks like John Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13 crossed with John Wick – with added humour. What’s not to like about that? Co-starring Alexis Louder, Toby Huss, Ryan O’Nan and  Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, the film is set to open in UK and Irish cinemas on…

Guero is an obstacle between james and teresa and it's funny because it's supposed to be the other way around, since guero is portrayed as the love of her life. I've also noticed that when he's not there she doesn't think about him.
Hey anon--RIGHT?! I remember that interview Ryan O’Nan did early s2 saying they overplayed their hand a bit with the Team James side of the love triangle and lol yes.  Ya think??
Let’s travel back to early s2 and the development of Guero vs. James:
In one corner we have Guero!  Pros: canonically the love of Teresa’s life thus far in the series and...some cute misty colored memories? I guess? Cons: Dude is a R-A-T. He took the deal with the DEA to save his own life, but did he leverage his value (or idk use the journal full of incriminating Epifanio info he KNEW Teresa had in her possession) to get a deal for Teresa too?  No sir, he did not. To make matters worse, he continually pops up in situations that would get Teresa killed if he were discovered.  He chooses a party that has Camila! James! Camila’s shady lawyer under investigation by the freaking DEA! all in attendance to do his grand I’m Alive reveal.  Homeboy LEAVES A VOICEMAIL on her phone talking about making a deal with the DEA.
He just gets so many chances to do right by Teresa and he never quite can do it unless it’s also saving his own skin.  When Teresa pushes back even the eensiest bit, Guero tells the DEA about the Galveston bust that Teresa will almost surely be involved in.  Sure he has second thoughts and swoops in at the warehouse saving Teresa from oh look-- a situation he CREATED (which really is like the summation of all of Guero’s “good deeds”) but even then can’t do it thoroughly enough that James doesn’t have to clean up the mess.
What’s James doing in early S2? GLAD YOU ASKED. He starts working with Teresa as a partner.  Provides emotional support (the hug!).  Provides physical support  (literally hauling her injured ass through the desert and providing first aid!)  Establishes loyalty to her (”we’re in this together”) and then follows it up with his actions.  Doesn’t rat her out (to Camila or the militia men) and doesn’t leave her behind until he has to and then tries to make sure he’s leaving her with better options than she had before, even if that’s just providing a distraction for her escape attempts.  He is willing to endanger himself for her.  He risks capture and/or death by both the militia guys and the DEA to help her escape.  I mean? I think the main complication is that James is ingrained in the criminal life whereas Guero is still the idea of “escape” to Teresa.  And don’t get me wrong, James has his own cons for sure (especially in the back half of s2) but as far as the establishment of Guero vs. James goes, there’s literally enough weight on the Pro-James side of the scale to catapult Guero’s side into space.
By the time Guero and James are in the same room together it’s exactly as you describe anon.  It’s like, shhh Guero can’t you see my OTP is staring loudly at each other?
Thanks for the ask!
