#Robin makes Steve beaded keychains

Steve and Robin play hangman when they’re bored at work and Robin never wins because Steve spells words incorrectly during his turns, always ends up confusing his e’s and a’s. But they’re undefeated at Pictionary, can guess what the other one is drawing in a single line. Dustin always thinks they’re cheating.
When his parents are gone on weekend trips, Robin will come over and the two of them will watch movies all day and bake banana bread. Steve loves banana bread. Robin can’t stand when people chew with their mouths open but not Steve, who braids and unbraids her hair and talk-chews through the whole first half of St. Elmo’s Fire (her pick).
Steve once tried to color coordinate Robin’s closet as a surprise and it did NOT go well. Robin didn’t talk to him for two days, she was so upset. But Steve understands, he really does, when she explains what’s wrong over the phone. When he knocks on her door after dinner with a new mixtape, they end up driving around aimlessly until the tape is over and all is forgiven.
Robin holds Steve’s hand when he gets bad migraines, strokes up and down his arms when he has to put his head in his hands. Understands when certain days are bad days, quieter and gentler with him. She always keeps an extra pair of sunglasses in her school bag, just in case.
They haven’t talked deeply about the monsters, but they know each other’s favorite songs and foods and colors and their celebrity crushes and jean sizes and allergies (Robin can’t eat shellfish). They have done karaoke for longer than three hours and peed their pants laughing and have seen each other naked and have sat in complete silence, comfortable on Steve’s leather couch and happy just to be in each other’s company, their favorite person the other person in the room.

Eddie is live-streaming his current obsession (making beaded animal keychains) in his studio while Steve and Robin drink wine and grade papers in the background. They are at the bottom of their wine bottle when Steve - a little drunk, a little tipsy - is like, “I don’t know why your fans hate me so much. We should get along ‘cause they want you to do things that I also want you to do. And I can actually get you to do it so they should be nice to me. It’s like, mutually intrusive.
Robin: Inclusive
Steve: That’s what I said
Eddie: No one can make me do anything, babe
Steve: I can! I can in *counts off his fingers* twenty words
Eddie: Oh, can you? How?
Steve, counting as he goes: Jeff is my favorite because he sings songs about how much he loves me.
Eddie:
Eddie: Those are my songs. And that’s only fourteen words. Need six more
Steve: But you never sing to me
Eddie:
Steve: *smiles*
Eddie, sighing: *gets up to get his guitar*
Steve, to the camera: See, mutually intuitive
Robin, narrowing her eyes: You’re doing that on purpose

Steddie week. Day 1: Pining. 1.2k words. Ao3 link.
Have some fluff! Also, written from the point of view of the non-pining person.
~
Steve is not sure how he got here. Although he’s actually not complaining. But after the end of the world part 4 (and hopefully final), Eddie Munson seems to be… courting? Wooing? Him? Whatever, he’s trying something. He was already kind of flirtatious during the apocalypse, at first Steve thought that was just a defense mechanism or just how he is. To a degree, he does have a flirty personality. But he does not treat everyone else like he’s treating Steve.
Steve is almost 99% sure that he has not opened a single door while Eddie’s around. Every time he goes to leave a room, suddenly Eddie is in front of him opening the door for him. It’s a miracle he doesn’t bow or some shit equally as embarrassing. Steve can feel the party’s eyes on them, and he doesn’t know why Eddie seems so unaware of it. In similar fashion, Eddie picks up everything he drops (he’s a klutz, sue him) so quickly that it almost looks like he hurts himself a little.
Are all the seats taken? “Have my seat, Stevie.”
Steve forgot a jacket? “You look cold, here’s my jacket.”
Steve mentions being thirsty? “I’ll get you some water!”
His car was in the shop one time, so Eddie picked him up for movie night at the Wheeler’s. When he dropped him off, he didn’t just make sure he got inside from the comfort of his car. No, no, that wouldn’t suffice. Eddie walked him to the fucking door.
Also, the pet names. God, there’s so many! One would think Steve is a fair maiden in the 1800s with the amount of terms of endearment he’s subjected to on a weekly basis. Angel, sweetheart, darling, honey, love, and even goddamn beloved. Who the fuck uses beloved? In this day and age?
Steve has not had this much attention, since, well, ever. Eddie seems to notice every single thing he does or says. One time he mentioned in passing how much he likes cool ranch Doritos and the next week Eddie showed up at Family Video with a sandwich, a bag of cool ranch Doritos and his favorite flavored soda. “Here’s your lunch, sweetheart.” Steve could only say thanks before he walked out with a wink, leaving him confused as ever.
He’s very much not confused now. He knows what Eddie is doing.
Every chance he gets, Eddie makes sure he knows how good he thinks Steve looks. He even compliments his outfits, which at first Steve found hard to believe it was sincere because come on, why would Eddie say he likes his polos and jeans if not to just get him to like him? But the more he did it, the more Steve started to notice the look on his face. If he wasn’t being sincere he was a hell of an actor because Steve could swear his eyes almost shined with fondness and/or adoration.
There’s a corner on his desk that he has designed for little trinkets Eddie has been gifting him. This has to be the weirdest part of it all because why would Eddie give him a piggy keychain? A freaking I <3 NY magnet? Has he even been to New York? Where did he get that? Steve’s favorite is this bracelet that spells ‘lovely’ surrounded by green and blue beads. Because of course Eddie knows what his favorite colors are. Ah shit, did he make that himself? Eddie should stop being this adorable, because now every time he enters his room and glances at this pile of [perceived] junk an involuntary smile starts to bloom.
Whenever they go out to eat together (as friends, Robin!) Steve goes through the same argument when Eddie insists on paying. Steve rarely wins that battle.
It all feels, weird. Steve doesn’t know how to feel about all of this. On one hand, does he enjoy all this attention? Of course. I mean, who wouldn’t. Steve is sure that if he asked any girl if they enjoyed the attention from guys that they didn’t particularly wanna date, they’d say yes. Right? It seems logical. Everyone likes to feel special. On the other hand, how is he supposed to react to all of this?
Robin’s told him that he needs to say something. That it’s gone too long. Just to reject him already, or something along those words.
Steve hasn’t.
He can’t seem to bring himself to burst this bubble. To break this kind of spell that he apparently has on Eddie “the freak” Munson.
A freak, though? Eddie’s not a freak at all. If the people that gave him that god forsaken nickname got to know him, they’d sure regret it. Steve’s sure. Because he’s a lot of things, but not a freak. Incredible considerate, for one. Thoughtful and passionate. He’s amazingly kind, and so full of love it sometimes looks like he can’t even contain it all. Most of all though, he’s ridiculous. Greatly so. How does someone go this long, treating a person this special, wooing, basically spoiling them, without asking anything in return? Steve has been sure for a while that Eddie Munson has been trying to get him to like him back. He’s going about it in a ridiculous way.
Eddie Munson is ridiculous.
He’s so so ridiculous.
What’s even more ridiculous is…
It’s kinda working.
“What’s your approach here?” Steve questions. Eddie’s over at his house tonight. They were watching a movie and Eddie just randomly got up, brought over some popcorn and a blanket. Which he put on Steve’s feet because somehow he knows they get cold easily.
Eddie sits beside him. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, you’ve been doing this for a long time. Are you ever gonna…?” Steve trails off. He may have started this conversation, but he really doesn’t know how to ask what he wants to ask.
A flash of recognition crosses Eddie’s face but he quickly schools his expression. “Am I ever gonna… what?” He smirks. The fucker.
“You know what.”
“I really don’t.”
Steve rolls his eyes. “I know you know I know what you’ve been doing. Don’t play dumb.”
“That’s a lot of knows.”
“Be serious.” Steve gives him a look that he hopes conveys how much he wants answers.
“Just say what you mean, then.” Eddie looks down, he looks kinda nervous and Steve feels just a tiny bit guilty about how abruptly he brought this up.
“Are you… gonna ask me out? Anytime soon?” Eddie looks up and although he seems taken aback for a second he just smiles after it.
“Do you want me to?” He tilts his head and puts on his most innocent act.
Steve hums. “What if,” he clears his throat and looks away, “What if I say no?”
Eddie nods like he’s considered this and every other scenario. “Don’t worry about it. I’m not asking you out yet.”
Steve frowns. “Then why…?” His brain catches up and takes notice of the last word of that sentence. “Not yet?”
Eddie shakes his head no. “If I do it,” he searches Steve’s face. Steve doesn’t know what he’s looking for, it takes a few seconds but he seems to find what he needs to say, “When I do it. It’s gonna be because I’m sure you’ll say yes.” Steve doesn’t know what to say. Or if he should say anything. He feels breathless. “And it’ll blow your pretty little mind, honey. Can’t believe you thought I’d do it with karate kid on the background.”
They settle back down, and that seems to be the end of that. Eddie seems content with that for now.
Steve though? It seems like his insides have started bubbling with anticipation. Without asking him for permission, no less!

nancy starts reconnecting with parts of her childhood after all that shit went down for comfort. this prompts her to start a collection of stuffed animals, get into d&d again, pick her old lotr books up from the dusty shelves, experiment with make-up like she did as a preteen...
she even starts making friendship bracelets again but only gives them to very specific people; dustin has a green and yellow one he matches with steve, robin has a red, orange and yellow one she refuses to take off even when she showers, and jonathan has a purple one he turned into a keychain because bracelets kinda make his skin itch and he can't keep them on for longer than half an hour (of course, nancy helps him with redesigning it).
eddie has one, too. it's blue with a single pink bead in it. nobody really questions it, and if they do, eddie just shrugs and tells them that nancy ran out of blue beads and had to improvise. little do they know, nancy has a pink bracelet with one blue bead in it, matching eddie's.
it's not like nancy thinks eddie is more special than the others, or anything like that. it's just that eddie has been there, encouraging her on her journey to rediscover that part of her life she had forgotten.
when eddie caught nancy reading lotr behind school during lunch, he plopped down right beside her and talked about it with her for the remaining of their break (they now have weekly meet-ups where they discuss about the plot points nancy reached during the week). when nancy wanted to rekindle her relationship with d&d, eddie did not waste a second to organize a campaign just for her. when the two of them found themselves at the byers-hopper family's new home for movie night, nancy revealed to wanting to try out the lead actress' make-up on herself, and eddie told her he would have helped. (nancy thought he was joking; he wasn't.)
and when nancy ended up crying in eddie's arms after everything had felt like too much, when they both trusted each other enough to tell the other tiny little secrets about themselves and who they truly were, when eddie showed up at her house with cheap liquor and a box full of beads he had found at the flea market after a rough day... it was then that nancy knew she had found herself something precious.
so yes, nancy wheeler has a best friend. that's another thing she needed back from her childhood.

Steve's Character Sheet
(again kind of a what's-in-my-bag type dealio)
Tumblr media
(starting at the bottom right and making an arch)
secret boyf necklace (three guesses who that is)
mini flashlight for emergencies
his lighter
wallet (some fancy rich person shit) (he keeps cash and change, ID, his dad's credit cards, movie stubs, pictures and Polaroids and stuff like that in there)
Steve doesn't collect keychains like Max but he's got a few; Pac Man from Max for his birthday (it's his fav video game), Dustin made him one of those lizard bead things while at camp, and Billy put a fuckin hot wheels on a key chain to "give him better taste in cars" (it's not a Camaro but still some yellow muscle car with racing stripes)
based on a thing I never finished writing, when Steve and Nancy were dating, they used to read the same mystery/thriller novel at the same time and try to figure it out before the other one (I also hc that Steve has dyslexia, so he'd get a head start but like they'd have check points and compare notes every couple chapters and they're pretty evenly tied, I think I had Nancy leading by 2?)
glasses that he never wears bc he's too cool, that's too embarrassing for Mr. Popular Jock (but he gives in and wears them during college or w/e)
the yellow duffle from s1 bc he's a soft jock
extra gym clothes (after a little theft Prank™ via Billy he keeps extras now)
keeps a random assortment of pens and pencils floating around his bag
a Singular notebook (really messy notes and random doodles, I hc Steve as an artist person but he doesn't like Realize he's good at drawing and stuff so he doesn't even have a sketchbook)
his hair stuff
gym shoes (name brand, pristine, he's bratty about his shoes m8)
(in conclusion I love him, let him wear more vests!)
(also idk what happened but I didn't include any Robin stuff? I'll make her sheet next probs)

I love that Eddie is a craft guy! It just makes so much sense. Do you think he's one of those people who is CONSTANTLY doing a new craft and their house is just littered with Eddie's crafts, and he's always making little hand made gifts for Steve, the party and the band? I can totally imagine Steve coming home and the house just being in total disarray and Eddie's just like "I made a bird table and i personalised all your coffee cups :))"
Eddie Munson and the ADHD urge to start a new project before you finished the last one.
Despite Eddie’s big personality and the joy he gets galivanting across cafeteria tables and award show stages, he is very much a homebody. His favorite places growing up was his bedroom, Gareth’s garage, and the drama room where he hosted D&D. Then he went on tour and when the shows were over, he just wanted to be home.
He liked being able to strip away the Eddie Munson persona, sit down, and channel all the ideas in his head into a creative output.
Honestly, making money just made it worse. He can afford shit now.
Steve’s the opposite though.
Steve likes to be out of the house. He was a kid that lived in a big house with parents that never wanted to see or hear him, sometimes year-round sports were the only thing keeping him sane. Once Eddie made it big and was touring, Steve was once again alone in a big empty house and so he found things to do.
He meets up with Robin at least once a week to get dinner and drinks, and sometimes they go dancing or they sing karaoke. Him and Dustin meet up semi-regularly to catch up. He was a part of their neighborhood walking group before Diane annoyed him out of it. He goes bowling with some teachers from work occasionally and takes a pottery class that he sucks at. Him and Max are a part of a trivia team that has only ever succeeded at being the drunkest team in the game.
So, the combination of ‘Steve is 90% of my impulse control and he’s not here right now’ and ‘If I don’t create something, I will die’ means that sometimes Steve comes home to a new windchime or a questionably made bird house.
Sometimes he comes home to Eddie embroidering one of his jackets by hand even though he bought an embroidery machine that he has never used. Other times, he comes home and Eddie has carved every bar of soap they had into a little fucked-up guy or he found a recorder and wants to play Steve a song.
Or sometimes, Steve returns home from the cooking class he’s taking at their local community center to beads. Beads everywhere.
Beads in the carpet. Beads on the hardwood. Beads in their shoes by the stairs. Beads everywhere.
Steve – who is pretty Type-A about their house being clean and organized because he has a shit memory and needs to be able to find things – very calmly sits aside the ravioli that he made and says, “Eddie, what the fuck?”
“I dropped them.”
Steve makes a gesture like ‘yeah, no shit’ and then just makes a distressed noise, but Eddie waves him off as he dumps a handful of beads into the good punch bowl that they use for parties, “Don’t blame me. Your cat tripped me. I nearly brained myself.”
“She’s only my cat when she’s bad,” Steve sighs, sitting down to help pick the beads up. “Why do you have beads anyways? Since when do we have beads?”
“Do you remember those beaded lizard keychains?” Eddie asks, and then when all he got was silence. “I’m going to make you one…after we pick up two thousand pony beads.”
Steve makes another noise that’s somewhere between ‘you’re causing me actual pain’ and ‘I love you so much it makes me stupid’ and Eddie grins at him. He gestures to the punch bowl and says, “Stevie, think about it. Once we fill this bad boy up, we can separate the beads by color. That’ll be fun, right?”
“…Yeah, I’d actually really like that.”
