What You Need Materials Removable Wallpaper Tiles Tools Scissors Level Metal Ruler (optional) Craft Knife Pencil 1. Start by finding a plumb vertical line. The One Thing You’re Forgetting When You Wallpaper

When you’ve committed to a project that takes time to complete, then you want the end results to look as stunning as you imagined. And usually, getting across that finish line requires paying attention to the details — especially when it comes to something as finicky as peel-and-stick or pasted wallpaper. If you’ve already lined up all the seams perfectly, smoothed out all the air bubbles, and cut the edges as neatly as possible, you may think you’re done. And you can be! But there’s one more step that will take your wallpaper project from good to great: giving your outlet covers the wallpapered treatment, too. In her space, the gorgeous deep blue botanical wallpaper she installed was getting interrupted by a stark white outlet cover that stuck out like a sore thumb. Instead of letting Black Gold Geometric Wallpaper , she gave it a quick makeover to help it blend in. Maclaskey began by removing the cover with a screwdriver so she could safely work on it on a flat surface. Then, she grabbed some leftover wallpaper, which she compared to the paper on the wall so that she could match the pattern exactly. Geometric Art Deco Gold White Wallpaper placed the paper over the outlet, wrapping the edges so that it had a seamless finish (a small snip in the corners ensured they laid flat) before taping. Hanging traditional wallpaper is daunting, but you can breathe a lot easier when you’ve got the removable and repositionable kind. The fear that you’ll screw up is minimal. Still, it’s helpful to know what you are getting yourself into before you get started. And tips and tricks are always handy! For this project, we used wallpaper tiles from Hygge & West designed by Laundry called Andalusia in Blush. What Black Gold Geometric Wallpaper Need Materials Removable Wallpaper Tiles Tools Scissors Level Metal Ruler (optional) Craft Knife Pencil 1. Start by finding a plumb vertical line. Geometric Art Deco Wallpaper ’t expect your molding or corners to be even, especially in older houses. Always check it to make sure first, so your wallpaper doesn’t wind up skewed. If it isn’t, use your level to draw your own plumb vertical line to use as a starting point. Just to be on the safe side, we also drew a straight horizontal line to mark our starting point, which makes it easier to line up the top of the wallpaper. Use a very faint pencil line so it doesn’t show through the wallpaper!! 2. Start by pulling a 2-4″ strip of wallpaper away from its backing. This makes it easier to manage. Six Months

An attempt at some parenthood angst?

Similarly to the title, this fic has been in my WIP folder for a minute; it went through a handful of edits. I'd like to think this is good enough for y'all.

 Carmy sat in the office staring at the paperwork Sugar needed his signature on; when he saw the date on his phone, it hit him—today marked six months. Six months of parenthood and six months of celibacy, to say Carmy was sexually frustrated, was an understatement. “Hey Carm, did you- are you okay?” Sugar asked when she caught him staring blankly at his phone. He didn’t respond until she put her hand on his shoulder. Her touch snapped him out of his trance. He looked at her before quickly apologizing, “Sorry, what were you sayin'?” Sugar grinned as she patted his shoulder, “You okay, Bear?”

Carmy nodded and straightened up in his desk chair, “Yea- just thinkin’ bout the baby.”

Carmy got home from work late. He quietly slipped his jacket off, and hung it on the coat rack before removing his shoes. Walking down the hallway, he slipped into the nursery, knowing the baby would be asleep. He found it impossible not to be happy in her room. The walls were decorated with vintage floral wallpaper you’d bought off Etsy, it may have been a pain in the ass to put up, but Carmy happily obliged when he saw how happy it had made you. He crept to his baby girl’s crib and felt the day's stress disappear. She was peacefully sleeping in a light pink sleep sack, furiously sucking away on her pacifier. “Sweet dreams, princess,” he whispered. “I love you.” 

The joy of watching his daughter sleep faded away as he approached the askew door to the master bedroom the two of you shared. “I’m home, baby.” Carmy grinned as he walked toward the open closet door, “Hi, Carm.” you called from the bathroom. When he entered the bathroom, you were brushing your teeth. As the mix of salvia and toothpaste residue dripped from your mouth Carmy’s breath hitched- was this enough to get him goin’? He shook his head as he pulled his shirt off and threw it in the laundry hamper before turning on the shower.

“How was work, babe?” you asked before bringing a small cup of mouthwash to your lips. Carmy watched as you swished it around your mouth and spit it into the sink. “Carmy?” you asked again; he swallowed. “Yeah, uh, it was good. Busy,” he answered as you hopped up on the counter. You were desperate for adult interaction after being home with the baby all day. 

“Mia, have a good day?” Carmy questioned. You nodded, “We did some laundry, then had mashed pears for lunch- she did. I had that leftover pasta sauce you made... Read a couple books and went on a walk... Then did her bedtime routine, and I worked on that stupid documentary I was telling you about.” 

As you recounted your day, Carmy nodded, but he was staring at your chest, barely hearing what you said. You’d been wearing one of his old T-shirts. He noticed how prominent your nipples were under the soft, worn-in material. He was captivated by the fullness of your breasts, and he’d do just about anything to touch them again. “Carm, you okay?” you asked, hopping down from the counter; he nodded. “Wanna get in with me?” he asked cocking his head in the direction of the running shower. You giggled, “Maybe next time, bear.”

“Oh fuck-” Carmy grunted as he worked his hand up and down his length. He felt like a teenager again, masturbating in the shower before going to school. However, now, instead of imagining the unrealistic scenarios he’d see in pornos, he had memories of you. Carmy thought back to the last time you’d really touched him. Heavily pregnant, hormonal, begging for his tongue and his cock… he’d expected a shift in your sex life as the two of you adjusted to parenthood, but this long of a dry spell was the last thing he’d expected. Carmy squeezed his eyes closed as he came down the drain.

She spat her pacifier out and let out a gruggle. “So it’s one of those mornings?” he chuckled as he unzipped her. He watched her stretch before carefully picking her up, “See, you’re okay.” he rocked her gently before exiting the nursery and heading downstairs. 

You were making coffee and prepping a bottle for Mia as he entered the kitchen. “You’re off today, right?” Carmy nodded in response before handing you Mia. “You goin’ to work?” he questioned, as he got two mugs from the cabinet. You groaned in response, “Jenny called off, so I have to go in. I’ll be back before bedtime.”

“Well, looks like Mia and I are havin' some Daddy-Daughter time,” you smiled as Carmy gently kissed her head before going to get the milk from the fridge. When you’d met Carmy all those years ago at some trendy Chicago bar, you found him incredibly alluring. His disheveled curls, the mix of some musky cologne and cigarette smoke, the way his T-shirt wrapped around his muscular arms… he’d always been… sexy. But watching him interact with Mia was a different kind of attractive.

Carmy drummed his thumbs on the handlebar of the grocery cart. He scanned the shelf before him as Mia happily made her baby noises as she looked around the aisle. “Okay, princess… they don’t have almond extract. What kind of grocery store doesn’t have fuckin’ almond extract.” Mia put her hands out to Carmy, grabbing at the air. Carmy chuckled and ducked to kiss her cheek.

“Oh my gosh, she’s too precious.” a sickly, sweet feminine voice cooed from behind Carmy. He grinned when he turned his attention to her, “How old is she?” she asked. Carmy got a good look at the woman; she was pretty, but she wasn’t you. “Oh, uh, she’s six months,” he answered as the woman stepped closer. She smelled like cheap vanilla and a mix of flowery scents Carmy couldn’t place. Mia glared at the woman, and Carmy scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “I’m Selena. I’m in this parenting group. You should stop by.” she smiled as she looked him up and down. The attention made Carmy regret not regularly wearing his wedding ring. “I’m not really the par-” Carmy started to say before Selena cut him off. “I’m not takin’ no as an answer. What’s your number?” she handed him her phone. 

Carmy didn’t know why he gave her his number- could he blame it on feeling uncomfortable? Was that even the right thing to do? It’s not like he’d ever do anything with this woman. He’d never throw away his marriage to you by hooking up with some woman he met at the grocery store. The reality of Carmy's actions didn’t hit him until he was in the checkout line. He gave his phone number to another woman- was that cheating on you? Did doing that in front of his daughter make him a bad father? “Okay, your total is $63.82.” the cashier smiled. Carmy nodded and swiped his card. He needed to get out of there as quickly as possible so he wouldn’t run into Selena again.

It had been a couple of weeks since Carmy’s interaction at the grocery store. He’d noticed Selena’s text messages here and there. They seemed innocent until one Friday night, he was working late, you were home with the baby, and Selena had sent Carmy an explicit picture, hoping it would get his attention.

Carmy stared at the messages before his eyes went up to the attached photo. Selena had the hem of her T-shirt between her teeth, showing off her toned stomach. He swallowed as he admired the contrast between her skin and the brightly colored fabric of her lacy underwear. He should block her. He should just delete the messages and block her number. He had a wife and baby at home—he couldn’t make this kind of mistake. He locked his phone and shoved it in his pocket before returning to the kitchen cleanup, “Hey Carm, I can finish this up. Go home.” Sweeps grinned as he attempted to connect his phone to the Bluetooth speaker on the counter. Carmy grinned, “You sure, man?” Sweeps nodded assuringly. “I think I can handle this boss man.” 

You heard Carmy walk into the bedroom that night, “Hey babe!” you called as you put your blowdryer in its designated spot by the sink. As the bathroom door swung open, Carmy’s lips were on yours. The initial shock wore off as Carmy’s tongue invaded your mouth, and his hands pushed under the hem of your sleep shorts to grasp at your ass cheeks. Carmy pulled you closer to him, forcing you onto your tip toes. You wrapped your arms around his neck, fingers delicately tangling in the roots of his hair. The passionate kiss ended when Carmy started to kiss down your jaw. A giggle escaped your mouth as his lips brushed against your earlobe before he nipped at your neck. “Carm-m what got into you?” you croaked as you adjusted your hips against his.

 “I need you, baby,” he muttered, lifting you off the floor. You squealed as he crashed down onto your mattress. He hovered above your body, staring into your eyes. “I need to be inside you, baby.” he swallowed hard as you bit your lip. “Carmyyy,” you giggled as you watched him pull his t-shirt off. You ran a finger down his chest, making him moan softly.

 “Let me make you feel good, baby…” Carmy whispered in your ear as one of his hands found its way into your oversized sleep shirt. Your breath hitched when you felt his calloused fingertips graze your ribs. " I-I—" you studdered nervously. “Baby…please.” Carmy quietly asked as his lips brushed against yours. “No.” you whispered as you grabbed his wrist through your shirt, “What?” Carmy questioned as he stood up abruptly, “Did I do something? We haven’t done anything in like six months- clearly I did something wrong. Just tell me so I can fix it!” Carmy raised his voice as his eyebrows knit together in frustration. 

You propped yourself on your elbows and watched as he picked up his shirt from the floor, “Carmen, please don’t yell at me.” you said calmly. You watched as he rolled his eyes and paced before you, “Baby. I want to have sex with you. I need to have sex with you-” Carmy groaned as he pushed his hands over his face into his hair. Your eyes narrowed, “Carmen. I had a baby-”

 “I KNOW! I fucking know! You had my baby, but now you don’t even want to fuckin’ shower with me! I get it- pregnancy was hard, and then giving birth was hard, and now being a mom is hard.” Carmy started staring at the ceiling while he expressed himself. He took a breath and turned to look at you; regret washed over him when he noticed you were on the verge of tears. “Baby, please don’t cry…” he pleaded as he knelt by the bed. He reached for your hand, but you pulled away before he could grab it, “Sorry, I don’t want to fuck you after taking care of your baby all day.” you spat. Carmy closed his eyes and took another breath trying to compose himself before saying something dumb, “How dare I fail to meet my wifely duties.” you angrily laughed as you stood up. 

You crossed your arms over your chest and stared as Carmy got up. “Baby, I didn’t—" you cut Carmy off with a groan. “Shut up, Carmen. You don’t get to speak to me like that.”

Carmy sighed and stepped closer to you, as he reached out for your hips only for you to slap his hands away. “Don’t touch me.” you glared at him, “Fuck this.” Carmy muttered under his breath as he pulled his shirt back on over his head. “What do you mean ‘fuck this’?” you questioned as Carmy exited the bedroom, “I need air.” Carmy called back to you.

You moved to your bedroom window to see Carmy walking toward his car in the driveway. He got in and pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket.

It’s dark, and it needs work. But, it’s got some great features, and the real estate ad says it can possibly be used for a business (noooooo, not an office!). This 1900 Victorian is located in Macomb, Illinois, has 3bd. 2.5ba, and is listed for only $107K. Give it a look. 

The first thing we see as we enter is beautiful original wood & floors. I would like to see what’s under that carpet and the wood wall looks like it’s been stripped and re-stained, so it needs some sealer.

You can just see a glimpse of the beautiful ceiling millwork.

Wow, gorgeous fireplace. Also, the carpet really matches the wallpaper. It could stay awhile.

Look at the fabulous floors. Love that. 

Windows w/original wood- look at that dental crown molding! I don’t think that the tiny corbels are original, though.

Gold ceiling, medallion and beautiful chandelier. Love the door and columns. It’s dark, but there’s some lovely millwork on the right.

Another original door, ceiling beams, and a cool light fixture. Love the walls, too. Must be the dining room.

You can see that gorgeous fireplace from here and look at the size of the crown molding.

Wow, the windows in the turret out front. Look at the beautifully detailed crown molding. 

Hmmm...looks like a picnic bench up there. Don’t like the kitchen, it’s a dated reno, but it’s not urgent. It’s still a useable kitchen for now. Plus, the appliances are new.

This bathroom has been painted over, and it would look great with reproduction Victorian plumbing fixtures.

There’s a lot of wallpaper in this house. Some of it should be removed, which is a lot of work.

The hall to the bedrooms still has the original gas light fixture on the wall. 

Not lovin’ the shower, but the pedestal sink is cool. 

This bd. needs some sprucing up.

Bd. set up as a family room. Loving all the original doors.

Why do they keep it so dark? Open the shades. Looks like a nice new floor in here.

Is that a grapevine? I LOVE grapevines. My grandparents had one and I couldn’t get enough of those sweet Concord grapes.

Outside of the fox

Chapter 13 of ? 2,991 words

Y/N longs for a new life when the one she'd been living comes to an abrupt stop. Without much thought to those she is leaving behind, the little fox packs a backpack and disappears. She stumbles across the shelter and makes an interim home for herself while she works out exactly what she wants from her second chance.

Last

It's a late night, you all skulk off to the bedrooms at around 11:30 upon Jungkook's demand that you couldn't stay awake past midnight on solstice eve-eve. Taehyung makes himself comfortable on the camp bed he brought with him. He set it up next to your bed while on his tour with Jimin, knowing you couldn't protest if you didn't know. Still he came prepared with arguments for when you did offer to vacate to the sofa.

"Don't be silly Y/N, if you sleep on the sofa you might be disturbed by other members of your lovely family when they need to get a drink in the night, and then you'd just end up upsetting yourself and them."

"I'm sure that's not true..."

"Do you not like me? Are you afraid I'll snore? I'll do my best to keep it to a minimum." He bats his eyelashes at you.

"Maybe I don't want you to hear me snore." You roll your eyes.

He grins and leans over to pat your sheets, signalling you to get comfy. You don't bother to try another argument, you know he will win either way. Within the cramped space of the office, the two beds have been pushed together, creating more of a double bed with a separate duvet feel. It might be the closest you've ever been to Taehyung apart from when he is hugging you.

His hair curls across his forehead as he turns on to his side to look at you. You face him too making sure there is enough distance that you can see the entirety of his face, but also not fall out of bed. He reaches over to move some baby hairs away from your eyes.

"I've never had a real sleepover before." He comments "My parents were never keen on the idea..."

"Mine weren't either." You respond. "Even as an adult though? You've never had a sleepover?"

"Not unless you count one-night stands, and I hardly think they count when they don't include sleeping."

He gets lost in thought for a moment as if actually contemplating the genuine categorization of a booty call.

"On that note, good night Tae."

You turn over to look at the wall, tracing the familiar patterns of the wallpaper with your eyes until you start to drift away into sleep.

"Goodnight beautiful," Taehyung says.

You can hear the sheets rustle as he makes himself comfortable.

You are awoken long before the sun by an excited ball of energy bursting into your room.

"Oh I'm interrupting..." Jungkook's ears fold down over his face as he looks at you and Taehyung. It takes your sleep-addled brain a moment to catch up with what he could possibly be referring to. Then you notice the weight across your chest.

Both of your duvets had fallen to the floor in the night and Taehyung had dropped his arm over you and pulled you close to him. You try wriggling free, but Taehyung just smirks and drags you back to him.

"You can join us if you like bunny?" He asks, his voice gravelly and low from sleep.

Jungkook squeeks and exits the room quickly making Taehyung laugh.

"Jumpy little thing isn't he?" He props himself up over you, keeping you pinned under him.

"He has some stuff going on... Can you get off me?" You ask.

You reach up to push at his chest but decide better when you take in the fact his shirt is missing. His eyes follow yours and he takes too much pleasure in relishing your reaction to his bare torso.

"Sorry... I sleep hot, I think it's a bear thing."

He hovers for another second before removing himself from you and clambering off the bed. He gathers his clothes for the day out of a duffle bag and heads out of the room.

You take a deep breath but immediately recognise that as a bad idea when you are hit in the face by a concentrated dose of Taehyung's scent. Your first port of call following this was to open the small window in your room letting in the freezing morning air but letting out the suddenly overwhelming scent of male hybrid. Then you actually check the time. 7:30 am... on a Saturday. Holiday or no holiday, that bunny was going to pay for the early alarm at some point. A sentiment you think might be mirrored among the other housemates when you see Yoongi grumpily trudging past your door.

You get dressed quickly, knowing you'd never live it down if Taehyung caught you changing, and then head downstairs to get started on breakfast. Jungkook is sitting at the breakfast table, practically vibrating with excitement waiting for everyone to join him. His cheeks are still tinged pink and any annoyance you had faded when you take in how cute he looks.

He is fully kitted out to enjoy the holidays. He is wearing a paper crown and knitted jumper with festive imagery.

"Full monty for breakfast Kookie?" You ask grabbing a selection of frying pans from under the stove.

"N..no... I didn't, he wasn't..." He babbles clearly thinking you're talking about something else.

"I meant a fry-up Jungkook..." You say gesturing to the pan.

"Oh... right, yes please." The fading pink returns in full force.

"And so you know Taehyung and me, we woke up like that, nothing happened."

"It's okay if it did, you're a grown-up, and he is pretty..." Jungkook looks down and starts finding the corner of the tablecloth very interesting when he speaks.

"Then you date him. I'm not interested in that kind of relationship right now."

Your statement clearly closes the conversation for discussion but Jungkook does look a little relieved at your assurance. You crack enough eggs into the pan to feed a small army and then switch the bacon on under the grill. Yoongi arrives just in time to help you with the toast and tomatoes. As if by magic the rest of the family filters in just as the two of you plate up.

After everyone's had their fill Namjoon's face turns deadly serious and he starts dishing out preparation roles like they were an emperor's commands. Taehyung and Hobi, as guests, were instructed to make punch and chop fruit for snacking on throughout the next two days. You and Yoongi were meant to get the kitchen ready for tomorrow, but it was definitely more aimed at Yoongi with you as an extra set of hands. He, Jimin, and Jungkook were going to go up the hill and create a bonfire ready for the next night.

It was going to be a long day filled with chores and hard labour but it would be more than worth it to actually relax on the day of the solstice.

Unsurprisingly with the early start, everyone was slacking off by noon. Even Namjoon had slowed in his efforts to carry wood up the hill. Yoongi had assured you everything that could possibly be done in the kitchen was finished for now. All the meat had to marinate and rest before it could be cooked. Taehyung and Hobi's job had taken them just over an hour, and a lot of that appears to have been punch taste testing based on how giggly they had become since breakfast.

It was fun watching the two of them on the sofa. They had been barred from the kitchen a long time ago when the fruit-throwing wars had begun. Now they were just chopping up strawberries while whispering to each other and occasionally throwing glances over their shoulders to look at you two in the kitchen. You should've known Taehyung would make friends quickly.

The bonfire boys come inside dripping with sweat, sitting at the table to avoid getting any of the fabric chairs gross.

"I think this is going to be the biggest fire yet," Namjoon says wiping his head with the back of his hand.

"I should think so with four extra people this year." Yoongi comments, kissing the tired leader softly.

Jungkook is dozing slightly, leaning on Jimin's shoulder. He may not have even slept last night with all the excitement.

"It also turns out that with so many extra hands, preparations go a lot faster. We have the rest of the day completely free." Yoongi says, ruffling the hair between Jungkook's bunny ears.

"Really? That's awesome." Jimin chimes. "Maybe we could play a game?"

"You got one in mind?" Hobi asks practically skipping into the kitchen with Taehyung in tow.

"I vote for spin the bottle." Taehyugn coos raising his hand excitedly.

"Of course you do." You shake your head.

"Hey, I'm flexible. 7 minutes in heaven works too." He winks, but it's aimed at Jimin and not you.

You find yourself a little put out when the panda's attention shifts but you try to let it go.

"Anyone who is not mentally a junior in high school?"

"Mario Kart? Game of Life? We could play in teams so there are enough pieces." Jungkook asks.

His eyes blinked open at the mention of a game, but it is clear that he isn't up for playing anything at this moment. A thought clearly echoed by Namjoon as he butts in.

"I think we would all benefit from a nap first." He stretches dramatically, yawning for effect.

"And a shower," Yoongi says wrinkling his nose as he gets hit full force by Namjoon's pits.

The bear puts his arms back down sheepishly but Jimin takes it as a challenge, shaking off Jungkook so he can chase Yoongi through the kitchen, catching him in his sweaty arms and rubbing himself across the cringing jackal.

You find it difficult to sleep with the sun streaming through the lightweight curtains in your room. As it turns out Taehyung does snore. He also drools. He is well and truly passed out on the bed next to yours as you sit and scroll through your phone willing your eyes to droop just so you can skip to everyone else being awake again.

Alas, sleep seems to have escaped your grasp.

You climb out of bed and head back downstairs, hoping the TV could distract you for long enough. You are surprised to see a figure perched on the sofa, remote in hand flicking through the channels. Clearly, you weren't the only one that hadn't been completely wiped out by the morning's activities. Hoseok is awake as ever, if not a lot less giggly than he had been this morning.

You slide onto the sofa next to him and take the remote from his hand, settling on a channel showing an old Solstice movie. He starts to protest but the complaint dies before it makes it through his lips.

"Couldn't sleep?" You ask stating the obvious.

"I was starting to think the sleepiness was their hibernation instincts until you appeared." He shrugged.

"I've never felt the need to hibernate, I guess I'm lucky that way. Maybe that is why they are so sleepy. Still, I hope they wake up soon, I thought of something we could play."

"Oh really? Do share."

Hoseok shifts his entire body to face you properly.

"Hide and seek could be fun. I don't know if you've seen all of it because I know I haven't but the land that belongs to the cottage is huge."

"Yeah I noticed that, considering the house is so small they really didn't use the space well," Hoseok says glancing back through the window in the kitchen. "But hide and seek could definitely be fun, has that childish element Taehyung was looking for."

"I'm not sure that's the childish element he was looking for at all, and I think you know that."

Your conversation drifts off and you watch the rest of the movie together in comfortable silence.

The others all stumble into the lounge and join you over the course of the next hour, planting themselves on the floor in front of you instead of finding other chairs. Namjoon is the last one to crawl out of Jungkook's room, still rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He sits on the arm of the sofa closest to you and watches the credits roll. The adverts have started playing before anyone makes any moves. But eventually, Jimin stands and drags Jungkook up with him. Taehyung and Yoongi follow suit, the latter a little begrudgingly as he clearly regrets sitting on the floor.

"So what game do you guys want to play?" The red panda asks, fluffy little ears twitching a little excitedly.

"Y/N suggested hide and seek?" Hoseok throws out there.

"Yeah, that sounds fun." Yoongi agrees.

"Less fun than my ideas, but I'm willing to play. What are the boundaries?" Taehyugn asks.

Everyone turns to look at Namjoon.

"It was Y/n's idea shouldn't she come up with rules?" He asks.

"I don't know the grounds that well." You point out.

"Right of course..."

He thinks for a moment, taking his role very seriously. Namjoon decides on five definitive rules that should be followed.

1. No whining when you are found.

2. Nobody touches Yoongi's studio

3. No hiding in places you could get stuck.

4. If you are found you have to help look.

5. If you are hidden for more than one hour you have to move inside the cottage to hide.

With the rules set, he also decides he would be the first one to seek. He starts a timer on his phone and lies face down on the sofa so it's obvious he can't cheat, not that any of you think he would be capable of cheating.

You don't see where the others run off to, you take off out of the back door as fast as your legs would carry you, not looking behind to see if anyone followed you. You'd had a quick look around once when Jimin first told you about how big the land was but you hadn't had a good opportunity to take in the details so you were more or less hoping to come across something useful.

You hear Namjoon shout in the distance when the timer goes off but you are too concerned with the fact you're still in plain sight, so you dive behind the nearest bush and scan the area. You spot the heel of Jimin's trainer as he ducks behind a tree opposite you. He climbs up the branches quickly and hides in the thickest part of the twigs. without the leaves, it's not perfect but it's still pretty solid provided Namjoon doesn't think to look up.

From his vantage point, he spots you and winks, blowing a kiss in your direction. Then he settles down into the curve of the branches and makes himself comfortable for the long haul.

You take another look around, checking for Namjoon and coming up empty, so you risk moving. There's an old shed filled with holes a little further away. It was probably damp and covered in cobwebs, but it would be the perfect thing to hide behind. The holes would allow you to see Namjoon coming and the width would let you sneak around without getting caught if Namjoon decided to check around.

You sprint from the relative safety of your bush to your new hiding spot just as your phone vibrates in your pocket.

Namjoon: 'Your own bed is not a hiding place'

It comes complete with an image of Yoongi's tail poking out from beneath the bed frame. It certainly didn't take long for Namjoon to track one of you down. The fact he'd decided to send pictures did mean you would always have a good idea of how close he was getting though.

Namjoon: 1 down 5 to go

Not two minutes later your phone buzzes again.

Namjoon: Might want to put your phones on silent...

A picture of a very sulky-looking Hobi accompanies this one. He is clambering out of a closet you don't recognise. He must've been brave enough to venture into Jungkook's room.

Ten minutes pass with no updates and you find yourself wishing you had thought to go to the bathroom before starting the game. You squirmed as you waited it out hoping the feeling would pass but it caused you to lose focus just long enough to not hear the twig snap as footsteps came towards you.

They came around both sides of the shed, caging you in so there was nowhere to run. Yoongi grabbed you as Namjoon took the picture of your capture.

Namjoon: Turns out Y/N isn't very good at hiding either.

You don't stick around to help them look, instead heading straight back to the house to use the bathroom, secretly happy they'd found you. You completely forgot to mention that Jimin was spying on you all from the tree.

In your time in the bathroom, they stumble across Jungkook in the greenhouse and Taehyung among some rose bushes. Meaning Jimin had won.

Namjoon: Jimin, come out now, you win...

Jimin: That's no fun, come find me.

You find your way back to the men just as they are about to walk past Jimin for the tenth time. You hold Namjoon's shoulders and turn him back to face the tree and tilt his head upwards.

"Well, that's not fair... I can't climb that high." The bear points out frowning.

"I guess I'll just stay up here forever then." Jimin shrugs.

"Fine then you don't get to have snacks when we all go back to the house and leave you there," Yoongi says, turning to head back to the cottage.

"Wait, no, I'm starving...Give me a second."

Jimin starts to climb down, making his descent look easy, right up until he stepped on the wrong branch.

It snapped with a sickening crunch and Jimin came tumbling out of the tree. He hit the ground with a harsh thud groaning as he clutched onto his arm.

Three Strands Part III

part iii: purpose

The warning sign was that the lobby was crowded. A company gathering had been diverted here, or some other excuse which Kougami doubted. Night had already fallen, and it was time to capture a fox. Whether these people were Yanase’s conspirators or not, it could be determined afterwards.

He placed his hand on Akane’s lower back, murmuring in her ear. “Let’s move.”

“Right.” They hastily wove through the gaps, to the concierge desk. The wait for the card keys was excruciating, followed by the elevator ride upwards. But they weren’t stopping, instead headed for the stairs. Yanase’s office was located on a hidden half floor, part of a renovation upon her purchase of the building.

Akane unzipped her bag, passing over one of the Dominators. He gripped the handle and the automated speech was almost nostalgic. The elevator opened, but the hallway was empty. A scan on her end confirmed no biological signatures. Together, they proceeded to the furthest wall, where the passage was located.

As soon as he opened the door, he caught a snap of crimson light, a motion sensor going off. Immediately, he grabbed Akane, bracing his arm around her torso. The wooden stairs suddenly folded, and the floor of the closet dropped. An irritating defensive measure, installed by its paranoid owner. He was frowning at the dark ceiling when her hand slipped around the back of his head, bringing his face down. 

His heart raced. Was she trying to-?

A blast above ended that thought, and by the time he registered the mounted artillery in place of a security camera, Akane had fired a Decomposer shot. The machinery crumbled in a blue haze, but it certainly wasn’t the only one. They had to find cover. And they did have access to a place. They rushed towards the room, disabling more security guns, and the door slammed behind them. He briefly checked both of them for injuries; he had a singed sleeve but nothing else. 

Akane persuaded him to remove his jacket, before the Holo disguises were dissolved and she contacted her team through her wrist device. Meanwhile, he investigated their hiding place. It was larger than a typical guest room; a sitting area with a kitchenette, a spacious clean bathroom, and a separate bedroom…with a king bed. Were they placed in one of the honeymoon suites? He didn’t know whether he wanted to confirm it or not.

“All clear.” He relayed.

“Thank you. The others are trying to infiltrate the security system and locate Yanase. What about SAD?”

He peered at his messages. “They think some of the immigrants are on the premises, trying to evacuate them safely. Are we stuck here?”

“As part of lockdown measures, unfortunately. Mika didn’t want the risk so she forced a hard reset.”

A new text popped up and he fought back a smile. “Gino told me not to drive you crazy.”

“A little late for that…”

“Huh? Did you say something?”

“No, I’m just thinking out loud. Anyway, I’ll send a Pillbug to travel through the vents and support the others.” She activated the bot, and it skittered up the cream-colored wallpaper into a ceiling grate. 

“Thanks. Keep me updated.” He peered past the curtains, but there was no balcony or railing to scale. Too far to jump, and since they were in the middle of the city, zero chance of rescue by flight. They were stuck. However, he was oddly calm, his perception straying instead to her presence and movements.

She’d sacrificed her life and reputation, in order to protect the law. Her voice had sounded thready when he first visited, stronger over the months, but he noted how thin she became. She had winced at the sunshine upon her release, looking as if she was about to weep at the taste of a good meal. She deserved to have space and to enjoy the world after so long. That was what he’d been telling himself. If he thought she was cute while admiring the cherry blossom petals or finishing a bowl of noodles, he wouldn’t let it show. And then, he dove straight into this tempting fantasy of marrying her. An idiot’s behavior, indeed.

“Not much else to do, until there’s a new development. I guess we’ll have to wait patiently.” She stood beside him, close enough that he could discern the scent of light citrus. She smoothed her hair, and the ruby ring glittered under the lamp light.

Gruffly, he said. “You can take it off, if you want.”

And in return, her challenging stare fixed him in place. “Well, I don’t. It may have been for the job, but I’m too attached now. Besides, you don’t actually want me to stop wearing the ring.”

His gaze drifted. “That’s…I did say understanding people was your strength.”

“Kougami-san, won’t you be honest with me?”

Now, he regarded her with the full force of his attention. She looked endearing, with her pleading eyes and her lips in an inviting curve. Against his will, his voice sounded hoarse. “You already know I’ll do so with my actions. What you’re asking for will change things between us. If you’re prepared, don’t run away.”

“In that case, you shouldn’t run either.” She reached for his hand, interlacing their fingers.

A thrill surged beneath his skin, right to his chest; it reminded him of a rainy night, eight years ago. He knelt, sweeping under her slender legs, and lifted her. “Then, no point in standing by the window.”

“This is familiar, except without the handcuffs.” She nervously laughed. “It’s been on my mind; why’d you place the other cuff on your wrist?”

“Ah…I don’t know.” He grimaced. An inadequate answer. “Maybe, I had accepted I wanted to be with you, for better or worse. My clumsy attempt at expressing how I feel.” Gently, he lowered her onto the bed but her touch moved to pull him in.

“So, you should take responsibility for your clumsiness.”

And at long last, he kissed her.

This was an ironic end to their pretend engagement, but she couldn’t complain. She could tell he was still exercising restraint, his mouth closed and surprisingly tender. She lightly bit down, an encouragement, and he made a low deep sound that warmed her entire body. Instantly, she wanted more. She pulled him down, but he resisted, an unspoken question in his dark gaze.

“Right now, I just want you.” She insisted. “You can be slow or gentle later.” 

He seemed to relax, then his mouth widened in a smirk. “Agreed. I’ll be thorough.” He grabbed his collar, wrestling out of his shirt.

She quickly unbuttoned her blouse and nearly snapped the zipper of her skirt, throwing them off the edge of the bed. She was eager to help with his belt buckle, though he had paused. And she remembered why, a little pleased.

His eyes darted all over her, and then, red crept up his ears. “Didn’t know you wore these things.”

Admittedly, she had caved and bought a few lingerie sets. This one was deep burgundy, the bra embroidered with a floral lace pattern and the panties held together by artful strings. She cheekily replied. “I was told I like to tease.”

He swallowed, his throat working. “Then, it’s my turn. I’m unfair after all.” His callused hands landed above her knees, spreading them apart. 

Cool air washed over her exposed folds. Oh. She forgot about that feature. Reflexively, she tried to sit up, about to protest, when his forehead pressed against hers. This kiss was rougher, demanding her full attention or she’d drown. His touch was purposeful on her skin, caressing up and up. A soft but unmistakably slick noise caused her to gasp, and he didn’t relent.

He braced above, his leg sliding between hers as he pinned her wrists. In this position, she was completely vulnerable. The kiss was a further distraction, and she gave in. She was aware of the stretch, his advances and exploring turns, preparing her as he said, her own excitement. His tongue stroked the roof of her mouth as his finger curled inside, in simultaneous identical motion. Her head spun. 

“Make it easy. I’ve got you.” He rasped in her ear. Damn it, why did he have to be sweet? “Almost there. Akane.”

She broke, using each syllable of his name as he pried that orgasm out of her. She was still shivering when she opened her eyes. But he wasn’t smug or proud. He looked…a little in awe? Stunned, like he couldn’t believe she came from his fingers. Then, he tilted his head, the recognizable contemplation mixed with the newer heat of interest.

Unable to bear it, she asked. “Is something wrong?”

“No. I was getting ahead of myself, thinking about how I want to see every variation of your face in bed.”

“...Kougami-san, you’re absolutely ruthless.”

“Funny, I don’t remember you calling me that a minute ago.”

Her cheeks burned, and without a good verbal retort, she unhooked her bra and accepted the slight slackening of his jaw. She resisted the urge to cover herself, keeping her chin high even as the belt came off. The last of their clothing was discarded, and he tore open a condom, a souvenir from the bathroom. Her imagination hadn’t done him enough justice; he gave a firm twist for security and she was going to remember that particular sight forever. Her left hand tangled within his hair, her brilliant crimson emblem of victory as she gladly welcomed him.

Not slow and not gentle. Her nails scored his broad back, and she was certain there’d be bruises mimicking his fingers on her hips in the morning. But she didn’t care. Heat and strength, force and provocation. Years of admiration, frustration, and mutual understanding - converging into the inevitable. This was what she needed, and he was hers.

His thrusts became uneven, a swear punctuating his heavy breaths. She stroked the nape of his neck, and took the initiative in kissing him. He hissed and drove against her; she found a smaller peak and crested it, squeezing him for all she was worth.

The stickiness was the first thing she noticed when her mind had settled again. She must have wriggled because he slowly slid out of her, rolling off. She exhaled; already, she felt empty and wondered if it’d always be like this. A shadow fell over her, and her gaze languidly drifted to him. He was carefully studying her reaction.

Did he think she was regretting it? Idiot. She leaned in, using her teeth to imprint a circle in his shoulder. At his grunt, she turned on her other side and clarified. “A ring of your own. For now.”

His arms looped around her waist, his thumbs caressing underneath her breasts, and she could feel the vibration of his voice when he echoed. “For now.”

The haze was shattered by an incoming message, thankfully a text. Yanase had been barricaded in her office, coaxed out by Arata and Kei. The immigrant workers were accounted for and pending transfer to mental rehabilitation. A success, on all counts. And a formal close to the undercover mission.

If anyone was curious why they had their Holos back on, they didn’t ask.

The following week, Akane submitted a request for personal time off. She tidied her desk, the cool silver chain around her neck shifting with her movements. The ruby dangled under her shirt, before resting once more on her chest. The elevator descent was quiet, and she didn’t spare a backwards glance at the tower.

The parked car was a block away, and she entered through the unlocked passenger side. “Sorry about the wait.”

“It’s not like I would have left.” Kougami was obviously amused, watching her fasten her seatbelt. “This trip wouldn’t mean anything without you.”

Have I told you people that I finally bought a house? I bought a house and I've begun renovations to bring the kitchen into this century.

This weekend:

Built a fence

Removed wallpaper from kitchen and 1 bedroom

Got all my appliances

Mowed 3 yards

Physically had to go into water office to make an account bc they won't let you on-line and got it turned on same day

Spent several hours ripping out toxic-to-dog plants from garden bed

Decided on countertops and new shingles

Called 811 to set an appointment to mark my lines and pipes 🫠

Aforementioned ER vet visit (which further emphasizes why I've spent full days ripping out plants from new house specifically for my dog)

In conclusion, my body hurts.
