I Want To Shout About It — JOE BONAMASSA #jbonamassa
The blues rock legend JOE BONAMASSA is back with a brand-new single from his eagerly awaited new studio album, due later this year on his J&R Adventures label. Joe performs a mesmerising cover of “I Want To Shout About It,” which was originally recorded by “Speakeasy” Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, a Queen’s New York blues-elder statesman that’s never before properly celebrated until this…

Double Trouble: Keyboardist Reese Wynans Turns 75
Double Trouble keyboardist Reese Wynans marks 75 years on Earth today.
Born Nov. 28, 1947, the journeyman musician is best known for his five-year (1985-1990), two-album (Soul to Soul, In Step) stint with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.
But his career is a full circle of stops that began in 1968 with the Allman Brothers’ precursor the Second Coming, which featured Dickey Betts and Jaimoe; included brief membership in Captain Beyond; and has continued post-Vaughan with Joe Ely, Buddy Guy, John Mayall, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Los Lonely Boys, Joe Bonamassa and others.
Wynans’ debut solo album, Sweet Release, appeared in 2019.
Then, in March 2020, Wynans played one of the last pre-quarantine concerts, sitting behind Gregg Allman’s instrument at Madison Square Garden as the Brothers celebrated 50 years since the ABB’s founding.
A Second Coming of ever there was one.
Act three, comin’ up.

I grew up with “Going Down” by both Freddie King and Jeff Beck, both absolutely great versions.  Joe Bonamassa, for my money, does great work here, too, and I dig seeing and hearing Reese Wynans and Anton Fig.  But how can one overlook the background singers when they dance?  The fireball in the middle...that’s why I’ve posted this fine video version of a great song.

Stevie Ray Vaughan (S.R.V.)
Although his mainstream career spanned only seven years, he is regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the history of blues music, and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was the younger brother of guitarist Jimmie Vaughan.
Vaughan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, along with Double Trouble bandmates Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, and Reese Wynans.

Jimmy Hall is Jumpin’ For Joy
Jimmy Hall is Jumpin’ For Joy - it’s a sort of blues, jump blues with a leaping country feel to boot. Great fun. The album Ready Now out 16th September
Most famous for his time in Wet Willie, Jimmy Hall is now set to release a new album on Joe Bonamassa’s KTBA Records called Ready Now. The album is due in September and features a stellar core band: Joe Bonamassa, Josh Smith, keyboardist Reese Wynans, bassist Michael Rhodes and drummer Greg Morrow with special (and I mean special) guests Warren Haynes and Jared James Nichols. The lead single is…

Song Review: Everybody and Double Trouble - “Texas Flood” (Live)
Five minutes.
That’s all “Austin City Limits” allotted to Double Trouble and a slew of guests to pay tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan with a performance of “Texas Flood” during Vaughan’s induction to the ACL Hall of Fame.
That left time for Buddy Guy, Willie and Lukas Nelson and Lyle Lovett to sing and room for Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Guy and the Nelsons - mostly Lukas, who left Lovett gawking and smiling as he awaited his turn at the mic - to play short solos. Meanwhile, Doyle Bramhall II, Robert Randolph, Mickey Raphael and Eric Zapata were relegated to eye candy when they shoulda been ear candy.
The clip comes from “ACL Hall of Fame: The First Six Years,” which premieres Jan. 2, 2021, on PBS; check local listings.
Don’t get Sound Bites wrong: the performance, what there was of it, was terrific. But there was time only for kindling where there was a tinderbox of musicianship on that stage just waiting to combust into an SRV-worthy storm of fire and aural brimstone.
File under: miss opportunities.
