Mother Knows Best
Tumblr media
Lilly took a deep breath as she walked to her car after graduation.
She hadn't told her family yet but she was planning to move in with her boyfriend, Jason in a few weeks.
When lilly got home, her mother was waiting.
"Mom! What are you-"
"Jason's father called me. You're moving out?" Deborah asked.
"Mom its.... I was gonna tell you dad and Gabriel today I swear," Lilly muttered as she hung her head A bit, not making eye contact.
"Dont mumble. Look me in the eyes, girl. Are you stupid?" Deborah asked.
"No ma'am," Lilly answered.
"Moving in with that boy? He is a no good peice of shit, Lillian," Deborah scolded.
"Mother he loves me!" Lilly argued.
"'Loves' you?! Please Lilly thats demented!" Deborah shouted.
"But mother I-"
"This is why you should never leave!" Deborah interrupted. "Dear God, this whole romance that you've invented just proves you're too naive to be here!" Debirah stated as she walked up to her daughter.
Lilly stood there, tears so close to spilling even though she knew if she began to cry she'd get into more trouble.
"Why would he like you? Come on now - really!" Deborah taunted. "Look at you - you think that he's impressed?" She asked as she held up her daughters hair to make a point about how messy Lilly was. "Don't be a dummy," Deborah stated, Lilly's eyes widened. "stay with mommy.... Mother-"
"No!" Lilly interrupted. She was finally done with her mother's abuse.
"No? Oh..... I see how it is." Debirah smirked as she walked toward her daughter menacingly.
Rapunzel knows best Rapunzel's so mature now Such a clever grown-up miss Rapunzel knows best Fine, if you're so sure now Go ahead, then give him this
"You think you know best?! You think you're so mature now. Such a clever little grown up miss," Deborah scolded.
"Mother I-"
"So Lilly knows best! Okay you're so sure now. wanna move out then go ahead. All he wants is to sleep with you!" Deborah shouted.
This is why he's here! Don't let him deceive you! Give it to him, watch, you'll see!
"That is the only reason he wants you Lillian! And if you give it to him you are a whore. Don't let him deceive you!" She continued.
"He loves me!" Lilly shouted.
Trust me, my dear That's how fast he'll leave you I won't say I told you so - no Rapunzel knows best! So if he's such a dreamboat Go and put him to the test
"Oh Lillian you are so stupid! The second you give him an inch he will leave you so quickly you won't won't have time to blink!" She snapped as she said that to illustrate her point. "Fine. Since you know best now, go and put him to the test and be a little slut!" Deborah shouted before she began to stomp out of the room.
"Mother wait!" Aponi called.
If he's lying Don't come crying Mother knows best...
"If you move out, you will no longer have a family here. You are no longer my daughter, and I never want to see you again!" Deborah shouted as she slammed her bedroom door leaving Lilly alone in the living room.
Lilly's phone started to ring.
"Hey babe! Didja tell your parents yet?" Jason asked from the other line.
"She knows..... she.. told me she never wanted to see me again," Lilly answered.
"Oh god.... oh my flower I am so sorry," Jason stated.
"Can I stay at your house until we leave?" Lilly asked.
"Of course baby. I just picked up some picture frames for us so we could hang up some pictures right away when we move in!" Jason replied.
Lilly smiled. "Thanks J.... I'll pack my stuff and I'll see you in like an hour okay?" Lilly asked as she walked to her room.
"Okay! See you soon! Love you!" Jason exclaimed before hanging up.
"... love you too..." lilly muttered to no one.
Aponi woke up in the middle of the night.... she groaned as she stood up and walked to her bathroom to splash some water on her face from the memory..
Lilly sighed as she looked in the mirror.
She caught a glimpse of the rope mark on her neck and touched it gently with her hand.
Lilly walked down the hotel stairs in only a baggy t shirt and underwear.
She walked to the fridge in Husk's bar and spotted some juice.
The light flipped on, startling the butterfly demon.
"Shit!" She shouted as she jumped up.
"Ah sorry darling!" Alastor exclaimed. "Could you not sleep?" He asked as he grabbed some raw food out of the fridge.
"Uh no.. i.. I couldn't.. too many memories. You?" Aponi asked in return as she poured herself some juice.
"Oh I don't sleep, my dear!" Alastor answered.
"Pft. I wish I didn't need sleep," Aponi stated as she leaned against the counter and took a sip of her drink.
"My dear, I've been meaning to ask; why don't you drink alcohol?" Alastor asked.
"Oh uh.... when I was alive I.... I was a druggee and a drunk. I was working on being sober. I was successful for a while until I died. Haven't had any alcohol since," Aponi explained.
"Ah. Very interesting. Tell me what drinks you like, I'd be happy to send nifty out to get some!" Alastor stated.
"Thanks. I might take you up on that.... anyways. I should probably go re-brush my teeth and get to bed. It was nice talking to you. See you tomorrow!" Aponi stated as she walked backbup the stairs and to her room.
She slept the rest of the night, peacefully after that.

What are the best villain songs in your opinion? Or your fav? 💚🎶
Oooooh, wow. Hard question!! Like, songs sung BY villains, or songs that remind me of villains? XD I'll go with the first one. These are my favourites! And, side note, this is the ruthlessly edited v e r s i o n of the list...
Be Prepared, Scar (The Lion King)
I know that your powers of retention Are as wet as a warthog's backside But thick as you are, pay attention My words are a matter of pride It's clear from your vacant expressions The lights are not all on upstairs But we're talking kings and successions Even you can't be caught unawares
How Can I Refuse, Preminger (Barbie Princess And The Pauper)
It's a temporary setback It's a momentary lapse But conveniently my ego doesn't bruise And the moment that I get back I will show them who's the boss You can bet your bullion there'll be no "I do's"
In The Dark of Night, Rasputin (Anastasia)
I was once the most mystical man in all Russia When the royals betrayed me they mad a mistake My curse made each of them pay But one little girl got away Little Anya, beware Rasputin's awake
Love Is For Peasants, Queen Ariana (Barbie as the Island Princess)
Love is for peasants, which we're obviously not. Who needs a heart that's going to bleed? It's inconvenient and just makes you hot. Let Mama tell you what you need. Not just any clown—someone with a crown— And a happy life is guaranteed.
Mother Knows Best (Reprise), Mother Gothel (Tangled)
No?! Oh, I see how it is.
Rapunzel knows best Rapunzel's so mature now Such a clever grown-up Miss Rapunzel knows best Fine, if you're so sure now Go ahead, then give him this
This is why he's here! Don't let him deceive you! Give it to him, watch, you'll see!
No More Mr Nice Guy, Rothbart (The Swan Princess)
Vengeance is what I believe in I don't get mad, I get even Odette can't get to the ball 'cause I won't bring 'er So I'll zap up a date who's a real dead ringer
Only Girl In The World, Duke Monroth, (Moulin Rouge)
Do you trust me? It's time, my dear, to dress the part Let me make you rise Take you for a ride Let me make you rise (Only girl in the world) Take you for a ride (Only girl in the world)
Prince Ali (Reprise), Jafar (Aladdin)
So Ali turns out to be merely Aladdin Just a con, need I go on? Take it from me His personality flaws Give me adequate cause To send him packing on a one-way trip So his prospects take a terminal dip His assets frozen, the venue chosen. Is the ends of the earth, whoopee!
(The Legend Of) Miss Baltimore Crabs, Velma Von Tussle (Hairspray)
[AMBER, spoken] Oh Mother, not more ancient history! [VELMA] Oh, my God, how times have changed! These girls must be blind or completely deranged But time seemed to halt When I was Miss Baltimore Crabs
The World According To Chris, Chris Hargensen (Carrie; The Musical)
Guess what, Ever since the world began Same plot, everyone's been dumping on their fellow man Pounding people they feel better than I hope you're taking notes cause You feel everyone deserves a shot Get real Some of us have got it, girl And some got squat That's the truth, oh honey, like it or not
What The Fuck Now, Lizzie!? , Emma and Lizzie Borden (Lizzie)
Emma: My sweet little sister, what have you done? Lizzie: Well I wasn't gonna wait for an engraved invitation. Emma: Now I've got twice the trouble, got two for one. Lizzie: Stop your bitchin', can't you see a win-win situation? Emma: What the fuck?! What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck now, Lizzie?! Lizzie: Well he ain't crawling back into bed now is he? Emma: No
World Burn, Regina George (Mean Girls)
My name is Regina George Regina is a fugly cow Hey Cady, how ya like me now?
I wanna watch the world burn I got the gasoline I wanna watch the world burn And everyone get mean
Yodel-Adle-Eedle-Idle-Oo, Alameda Slim (Home On The Range)
Now listen up There are crooks in this here West Who have claimed to be the best, And think they wrote the book on how to rustle Well, as good as they may be, Not a one's as good as me, An' I barely have to move a single muscle They call me mean, boys Depraved and nasty too And they ain't seen, boys, The cruelest thing I do

New Dream Appreciation Week Day 4: AU
@gleamful-lanterns @autumn-ravenclaw
A View Like This Read on AO3 “Excuse me... sir? Are you okay?”  Eugene blinked, startled at the sudden address. He’d spaced out a bit, and must’ve been scowling thinking about his stupid father, and this stupid train ride in the snow to get to him, because of stupid reunions or whatever, and-  “Fine.” He muttered, before he looked up from his seat to see who was addressing him- and froze.   The emerald eyes of a woman - younger than him, but not by much, he guessed - stared back at him, brimming with concern. He cursed, internally - this wasn’t the place to let himself slip like that - and straightened, abruptly, “Sorry. That was terribly rude of me, I-“  “Oh, no it’s fine!” She said, hurriedly. Her gaze darted up and down the train corridor as the man behind her coughed, impatiently. “In fact, I’m... sorry for disturbing you, actually, it’s just that... you’re sorta in my seat?”
The words were delivered in the most apologetic way, but Eugene’s brow furrowed. “Oh? No, I’m pretty sure this is my- ah, drat.” He realized, looking over his ticket. “You’re right.” Stupid window seats.  Why would he want those, all there was to look at was-
 “... You don’t want the window.” She guessed, tentatively, breaking him out of his thought spiral again. There was something... bubbling underneath her tone, now, and Eugene looked up at her again, from gathering his belongings to shift to the inner seat.
 “Not particularly. What’s there to se-“
 “Can I have it please, then? I’d love to look outside and see all the people and lights and sheep and-“ She cut herself off, abruptly, and gave an awkward laugh, trying to compose herself. “Sorry. But. Would you mind if I took it, then?”
 Something of a smile had begun to cross his face at her enthusiasm, and he found himself rising to let her in and gestured as if he’d just opened a door for her. “Be my guest.”
 This made her give a tiny giggle, as she squeezed in past him. The man behind her was practically glaring daggers at her for holding up the line at this point, and something made Eugene decide he disliked him instantly.
 He sat back down as she moved to arrange her belongings. Mostly, he just stared at his hands, and the rest of car- for some reason it felt like watching her do that would be awkward, which was weird, because awkward wasn’t a feeling Eugene Fitzherbert felt very often.
 ... correction. Awkward wasn’t a feeling Flynn Rider felt very often, and Flynn was all that mattered to most everyone, because he was far more exciting and charming, without any of the fears and insecurities. In short, Flynn was the much better option.
 “So, Blondie-“
 “Rapunzel.”
 “Gesudenheit.”
 She gave him a slightly annoyed look, and Eugene raised his hands up in a gesture of surrender. “My name is Rapunzel.”
 “Rapunzel.” He tried it around in his mouth. “Rolls off the tongue, surprisingly.” His brow furrowed in thought, thinking back to his attempted university days. “Say, isn’t that some kind of flower?”
 “It is!” All at once, her animation was back. Eugene was just relieved he hadn’t made another misstep - for some reason, he was already beginning to care what she thought.
 That’s dangerous, Rider. He told himself, internally. Letting people in was dangerous. Pretty soon they’d find the cracks in your armor, and stab, hard, when the moment was just right.
 But he wasn’t going to think about Stalyan, right now, and how she was why he was on this stupid train ride to begin with.
 “I can’t believe you know that! Most people just think it’s... weird. Or random.” She shrugged, playing with her braid instead of looking at him
 “I don’t think it’s weird or random, it’s kinda pretty.” He responded, before he could stop himself. Dangerous, Flynn, he thought, as her face flushed lightly because of it. “Well,” He amended, trying to recover. “It’s a little weird. But in the unique way, not the bad way.”
“Pretty and unique, huh…” She gave him a small smile. “I think I’ll take it.”
 “Great, because I regret to inform you I don’t offer refunds.” He quipped. Wasn’t his best work, but it made her laugh, so he counted it as a success. Not that he quite knew what he was trying to succeed at.
“So, Mr I-Hate-Window-Seats, you have my name, it’s only fair that I learn yours.” “Now that’s just not fair-“
 “You called me Blondie.”
“Because you actually have blonde hair!” Some of the passengers nearby turned to look over at them, so Eugene lowered his voice, though it did nothing to diminish his indignation. “I don’t hate window seats.”
“You seemed awfully keen to give yours up.” “Yeah, well, that’s because-“ Eugene gave a dramatic, long-suffering sigh. “I hate snow.”
 “How could you hate snow?” The look she gave him was borderline horrified. “It’s so white, and pretty, and it makes everything sparkle, and you can go sledding and make snowmen and snow angels and have snowball fights and then later on when you’re tired out you can go inside and wrap yourself up in cozy blankets and sit by the fire- snow is magical.”
“Some of us don’t have much cause for magic, Blondie.” Eugene said, in a much more subdued tone, staring at his hands. Stalyan used to make a show of being cold, sometimes, so he’d be obligated to give her his jacket. In retrospect, he thought she just liked watching him shiver.
 But his comment had left the conversation at an awkward pause- he had to save it, somehow. “It’s just cold, and wet, and it gets everywhere…”
 “…did you just use your hatred for snow to make a Star Wars reference?”
The small smile Eugene gave her could only best be described as dorky. “…maybe.”
 “Oh my god.” She chuckled, rolling her eyes. “You know, you still haven’t told me what your name is.”
 “Hm….” Flynn Rider or Eugene Fitzherbert. Eugene Fitzherbert or Flynn Rider. It should’ve been an easy choice. It should’ve been easy, second nature, Hey, the name’s Flynn Rider, rinse and repeat.
 So why did he have this overwhelming, annoying urge to tell her the truth?
 “Flynn.” He said, before he could second guess himself, though if anything the answer he’d chosen just made him feel more like a coward. “Call me Flynn.”
“Flynn.” Rapunzel’s eyes twinkled as she said it, and somehow in that moment it sounded better than any time anyone else had ever said that name. “I like it.”
                                                          * * *
 Eugene – no, Flynn, he supposed, because of that split-second decision – had a big problem.
 He was trapped.
 Now, most traps weren’t really enough to hold him down for long. He’d been in and out of enough cells and vaults to know a thing or two about breaking out.
 His current predicament, however, was … rather more delicate.
 You see, he and Rapunzel had chatted about things for about an hour or so in fits and starts, when she’d decided to put her headphones in and journal for a bit. Flynn, being the gentlemen that he always was, had pulled out a book, to give her some privacy and  make it obvious that he wouldn’t be reading over her shoulder.
 But somewhere in there, she’d fallen asleep. Fallen asleep, and now she was resting her head on his shoulder.
This is dangerous, Flynn, He reminded himself, again. If he knew what was best for him, he'd wake her up right now. But he didn't. Honestly, more than any personal discomfort, he just... wasn’t sure how she’d react when she woke up. But she’d whimpered in protest when he’d tried to move her off, and he didn’t have the heart (funny, really, that he still had one of those) to try that again.
 And he’d picked up a few things from their conversation – she was an art major, at university, who was somehow trying to cram as many additional majors and minors into her degree as humanly possible. She truly seemed to enjoy learning, just for learning’s sake, and that outlook… well, it was refreshing. It wasn’t an attitude he came across often in his own circles.  But this was her first big trip on her own, without anyone – hence the pent-up excitement that’d released in sporadic outbursts, earlier. She was juggling a lot, and she had a lot ahead of her, so maybe it was best to let her rest.
 She’d tried to turn some of his questions on him, too. Not in an intrusive way – he didn’t know how to explain it, but he didn’t think she was manipulating him. It seemed more like she was just… genuinely interested in learning more about him of all people, which was bizarre.
 So he’d told her a few things. How he’d recently had a bad breakup [leaving out the altar part]. How she’d retaliated by exposing his whereabouts to the father who’d abandoned him as an infant out of some misplaced desire to protect him.
 You know, just the light material.
Her eyes had grown round and wide, even at that much. “Maybe you should give him a chance, though. What if he really was trying to protect you?”
Flynn’s eyes grew harder, but Eugene could only think about hungry nights and always being on the run. “If he was,” He found himself saying, in a low tone. “Then he was just as shitty at that as he is at being a father.” Rapunzel had gone quiet at that. From what he’d gleaned, her parents were a shade overprotective – her father, in particular, seemed borderline stifling – but on the whole they were fairly supportive of her interests. There was something darker hiding behind that, he thought, something in her past that cast shadows over everything she said if you squinted for long enough – but she never alluded to it, and he wasn’t going to pry.
 His thoughts were cut off by the train jolting, abruptly. Rapunzel gave a startled yelp, looking around frantically, before slowly coming to rest on him. She glanced at his shoulder, then back at him. “Was I-“
 “Don’t mention it.” Eu – Flynn said, moving to stand slowly to see if he could glean any information on why they’d stopped.
 As if on cue, a voice came crackling over the intercom. “Good evening, passengers. It appears our passage forward has been blocked by a fallen tree. We’re going to do our best to resolve this as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, please sit tight. We appreciate your patience.”
“Great.” He muttered, aloud. “Just great. As if the snow wasn’t enough when it was rushing past us, now we’re –“
 “Flynn, look!” Rapunzel said, giving a tiny gasp. She pointed out the darkened window, and at first he was confused about what she was even seeing out there.
 But when he carefully leaned over to peer through it, and look up at the sky, his eyes widened, too.
 “Whoa…” He said, softly. Aurora Borealis lit up the night sky – he remembered that from when he’d tried a few university classes, too. The ribbons of green and blue and purple light danced across the atmosphere, and for a moment it was easy to feel like this was a private show, meant just for the two of them.
“Isn’t it amazing?” Rapunzel’s voice was filled to the brim with excitement, and despite the circumstances and not knowing what’d come after this, he couldn’t help smiling. Maybe it was okay not to think about names, or plans, and just live in this, brilliant moment for once. “The stars are coming out too, in the background –  I could probably point out some of the constellations, too –”
 “And I could tell you the stories about some of them.” He found himself responding. Maybe being stuck wouldn’t be the worst thing…
“I’d love that, Flynn.” Something about the way that she said it so earnestly twisted something in him, and he felt compelled to-
 “Eugene.”
 “What?” Rapunzel blinked at him.
 Eugene ran a hand over his hair, self-consciously. “It’s Eugene, actually. My real name.”
 He braced himself for accusations, questions about why he hadn’t told her the truth to begin with… but she just smiled at him, softly. “I like it.“
 “But-“ He said, baffled. “But that’s exactly what you said when I said my name was Flynn.”
 “It’s not about what your name is, Eugene,” she said, turning back to the window to begin sketching a rendition of the lights still visible through the window. “It’s about liking what I know about the person behind it.”
She said it so casually, as if it was a fact, and he wanted to protest. He wanted to insist that there were demons in his past she didn’t know the first thing about, wanted to tell her that she was better off attempting to befriend practically anyone else. Most of all, he wanted to tell her that he was decidedly not a good person.
 But maybe there was such a thing as magic, because something about the train car and leaning out the window to look up at the sky together, as she drew, with the prospect of sharing the stars and stories long after the northern lights died down stilled any words to that effect that he might utter.
Instead, he let himself accept what she said, for the time being. He let himself smile, a little, and relax. “You know,” He said, quietly. “I could get used to a view like this.”

KH x Danganronpa Part 6

Tumblr media
(Look at him!)
Sora, Donald, and Goofy walked through a picturesque forest. Goofy put his hand up to block the sun.
"It sure is a pretty day," he said.
"Yeah, the weather is great. It'd be perfect for a picnic," Sora stretched.
"Why do you think we came HERE?" Donald asked.
"Got me, Donald."
"We'll figure it out as we go," Goofy said.
"Okay," Donald sighed.
"I'm sure we were brought to this world for SOME good reason, but can't we sweat it later?" Sora said.
"Fine with me, as long as there's no Heartless. Or Monokumas." They heard a scream and stopped in their tracks, looking around for the source of it. Then with grunting and a final slide, a man fell down the hill behind them. He groaned, massaging his back, then looked back where he came from, where a troop of Heartless and Monokumas flew down after him. The man got up and scampered away, the satchel on his hip flapping with every step. He ran toward the trio with the Heartless on his tail, flailing his arms wildly.
"Make way! Make way! Make way!" he said. Sora, Donald, and Goofy parted so he could pass them, then summoned their weapons.
"Heartless!" Sora said.
"And Monokumas!" Donald said. The man found a rock to hide behind, catching his breath and peering out at the group.
"You see? Soon as you mention 'em, they show up!" Sora said.
"There goes our picnic," Goofy said.
"I didn't do it!" Donald said.
"S'okay. Let's send these guys packing," Sora said.
"Say, since you three seem to know what you're doing, mind if I leave this one to you?" the man asked.
"Yup. We'll take care of them. Go on, skedaddle!"
"You have my thanks." The man gave out a sigh. "The horse was enough. Don't need any monsters or weird looking bears on my trail."
"The WHAT was enough?" Donald asked.
"Oh, nothing, nothing. Name's Flynn. Flynn Rider. Flynn pointed to one of the Heartless. "Ohh! Watch out, they look mad!" Donald turned around again and Flynn started creeping away.
"Slowly... Slowly... Outta here!" he said. He dashed away as fast as he can while Sora, Donald, and Goofy took out the multitude of Heartless and Monokumas. After the fight, they saw no sign of Flynn Rider.
"Huh? Where'd Flynn go?" Sora asked.
"He skedaddled," Donald said.
"I think I saw him go thataway," Goofy said. He pointed toward a spot between the trees that veered into a small clearing with rocky hills on each side.
"Huh? But 'thataway' is...just a dead end," Sora said.
"Yeah. That's puzzling," Goofy said.
"Well, did he?" Donald said. Goofy crossed his arms, thinking.
"I say we investigate," Sora said. They searched the area for Flynn and approach the rocky hillside ahead.
"He couldn't have come this way," Donald said. Sora saw no exit nearby and turned to face Donald & Goofy, his back to a patch of leafy vines.
"Well, at least he got away safe. Right?" he said. He tried to lean against the vines but stumbled right through them. Goofy turned at the rustling sound, but Sora had disappeared.
"Hey! Now Sora's gone, too!" he said. Goofy walked over to the vines and heard Sora's voice through them.
"This way, guys! It's a secret passage!" he said. Sora stood up as Goofy and Donald pulled the vines apart to find a small hollow in the mountain. They ran through the cave until emerging into a small valley with a lone tower standing in its center. Made mostly of brick, the tower had vines running along its side indicating it must have been there for years. Behind the tower, a waterfall ran over the mountainside into a small pond that glistened in the sunlight.
"Look at that. A tower! Let's check it out!" Sora said. As they neared the base of the tower, they saw Flynn climbing down the stones on the outside with a pair of arrows. He paused, resting for a moment, when Rapunzel flung her hair down out the window, rappelling herself down the tower. She stopped before she hit the ground and slowly extended a barefoot to the warm grass beneath. She took in the feeling of her first taste of earth and knelt down, feeling the ground under her hands.
"It's so soft!" she said. Several dandelion seeds flew into the wind before her and she stood. "I'm free... I'm really free!"
She started running, not even noticing the trio as she passed them. Sora, Donald, and Goofy ran over to Flynn as he reached the bottom of the tower.
"Flynn, good to see you in one piece!" Sora said.
"Guys! You're here, and just in time," Flynn said. Rapunzel stepped into the pond, laughing as she stepped over the small stones lining the bottom.
"Oh... Who's she?" Sora asked.
"Uh, that would be Rapunzel," Flynn said. She took a handful of water and splashed it upwards with a shout of glee and loud laughter. "Something tells me this could be her first time outdoors. Give her a few minutes to get used to it."
"First time EVER?" Sora asked, wide-eyed. The sun beat down on her golden hair as she took in her decision and she grabbed her face.
"I can't believe I did this!" she said, happily. She grabbed her head.
"I can't believe I did this," She said, shocked as she spun around. "I can't believe I DID this!"
She gasped.
"Mother would be so furious if she knew I disobeyed her and left the tower..." she said, worriedly.
She sat on a rock holding a flower.
"But that's okay--I mean, what she doesn't know won't kill her... Right?" she said, carefree.
She cried in the hollow cave.
"Oh my gosh. This would kill her," she said, sadly.
She ran through the grass, kicking up leaves. Donald laughed while Flynn rolled his eyes.
"This is so fuuuuuun!" she shouted.
She leaned her head against a tree.
"I am a horrible daughter. I'm going back," she said, devastated.
She did cartwheels through the flowers, wrapping herself in her hair.
"I am never going back!" she said, exuberantly.
She lied facedown on the ground.
"I am a despicable human being," she said, in grief.
She swung around a large tree by her hair where Flynn and Sora waited for her to even out.
"Best. Day. Ever!" she said, exhilarated.
She sobbed into her hands at the base of the tree. Flynn walked over to her, with the trio following.
"I notice you seem a little at war with yourself here," Flynn said.
"A little MORE than a little," Goofy said.
"More like a lot," Donald said.
"Yeah..." Sora said. She stopped crying and turned to see them. She gasped and held out the frying pan toward Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
"Stop right there! Who are you?" she said. Flynn stepped in between them.
"I told you before: my sidekicks," he said.
"Sidekicks?" Sora asked.
"May I introduce, ehh..."
"Oh, uh... My name's Sora."
"Donald!"
"And I'm Goofy. Pleasure, ma'am." The chameleon appeared from under her hair, skeptical of them.
"Sora, Donald, and...Goofy," she said as she lowered her frying pan. "It's...nice to meet you, too. I'm Rapunzel."
"Yep. My sidekicks," Flynn said. Sora grabbed Flynn's arm and spun him around.
"Since when is THAT?" he whispered.
"Look, she really wants to see the lantern show tomorrow night. Now, I'm a nice guy, so I've decided to help her. Only problem is those monsters might show up again. I can get her to the Kingdom--but you guys are clearly more cut out for combat," Flynn whispered back.
"That's cause we're heroes!" Donald said.
"Uh-huh!"
"And we're Heartless experts. And we know a little bit about those Monokumas," Goofy said.
"Yeah, yeah!" They posed together and Sora gave a small laugh.
"Just leave it to us!" he said.
"Done," Flynn said. He motioned to Rapunzel and led her forward.
"Rapunzel is interesting..." Donald said. The trio walked behind them as Rapunzel admired her surroundings.
"Yeah, her heart's pulling her all kinda ways," Goofy said.
"The outside world must seem so big and scary. I know how she feels. Lucky for me you two came along at just the right time--and the rest has been unforgettable," Sora said.
"Awww..." Donald said. Sora realized he was getting sentimental.
"Yep, unforgettable...just like your face!" he smiled, pointing to Donald.
"Oh yeah?!" Donald asked. Sora laughed as Donald burst out in anger. Sora ran to catch up to Rapunzel and Flynn, putting his hands behind his head. Goofy chuckled as Donald seethed.
"C'mon, now," Goofy said. He ran after Sora, and Donald followed.
"All for one, and one for all," Sora said.

Back at the tower, Mother Gothel had returned to find Rapunzel missing. She scrambled through the house in desperation.
"Rapunzel?" she asked as she ran to her room.
"Rapunzel?!" she shrieked. She frantically tore down the curtain covering the window but found no one there. She clutched her face in terror before a glint of light caught her eye from beneath the stairs. She opened the bottom step and pulled out a satchel. Reaching into the satchel, she removed a sparkling tiara and at the sight of it, dropped it in fear. Terrified, she looked further in the bag, taking out a Wanted poster for one Flynn Rider.
"Missing someone?" someone asked. She whirled around.
"Who's there?" she asked. Stepping out from a portal was a man in a black coat with long rose-colored hair and a woman in a beautiful white gown with blonde hair styled up to make her crown fit. The abrupt entrance caused the frightened woman to drop the poster as Marluxia and Remnant Sonia stepped closer.
"She's such a precious gift. Allow us to assist you in getting her back," Sonia said as Mother Gothel's eyes slowly turned pink.
~~~~
Sora and the others left the lake and continued through the forest, Rapunzel's long hair trailing behind her as they came upon a strange plant stuck in the ground in a clearing alone.
"Okay, that's suspicious," Flynn said.
"Rapunzel..." Sora said.
"Don't worry. I know to be careful around flowers now," Rapunzel winked.
"Whatever it is, it's not normal. I'll take a look." Sora walked closer to the weird-looking plant.
"Watch it," Donald said. Sora approached the odd vegetation and examined it while everyone waited with bated breath. After seeing no imminent threat from the flower, he turned to the group.
"We're all clear," he said. They sighed with relief, but too late, as the flower's petals opened, folding downward as its form changed to that of a creature holding a scythe with a familiar symbol on its face, along with a few Monokumas as well.
"Sora!" Donald said, alarmed. He pointed behind Sora, who turned just in time as the pink and white creature swung its immense scythe at him while the Monokumas attacked him with their claws. Sora dodged away and summoned his Keyblade with gritted teeth, joined by Donald and Goofy.
"These guys?" Sora asked as more appeared.
"They're Nobodies! And there's more Monokumas!" Goofy said.
"Mother said the outside world would be full of ruffians and thugs," Rapunzel said.
"Those aren't ruffians. Those are...uhh, I dunno..." Donald said.
"Rapunzel, Flynn, stay back!" Sora said.
"No. I want to help you fight," Rapunzel said.
"I know. But I'm afraid you can't hurt these guys with a frying pan, plus these bears are really dangerous. Trust me on this. Flynn, could you explain?"
"No problem. Knowing when to flee is one of my specialties," Flynn said as he rushed over to Rapunzel. "C'mon, Rapunzel. Gotta go."
"But--"
"Look, I wanna stay and slug it out too, but my sidekicks have it covered." Sora nodded with a smile.
"All right. Please be careful, Sora," Rapunzel said. They nodded and left them to it. Sora, Donald, and Goofy took out all the Reaper Nobodies and Monokumas and regrouped.
"You know who uses Nobodies..." Goofy said.
"The Organization!" Donald said.
"Yeah. And Mukuro warned us about Junko and the Remnants of Despair. They must be working for them. I'm surprised we haven't seen 'em," Sora said. He cupped and started calling out. "I know you're there! Come out, you has-beens! And you despair loving freaks!"
They looked around and a corridor of darkness appeared behind them.
"'Has-beens'? Now why would you say that?" someone asked.
"And how dare you call a queen a freak!" a woman said. A tall man with long pink hair emerged from the portal, peering at them through yellow eyes while a woman with blonde hair glared at them with glowing red eyes.
"Because bossing around Nobodies? That's the old Organization," Sora chuckled. "Why? Are you in the 'real' one too? Good for you. And you must be one of the so-called 'Remnants of Despair'."
"My name is Marluxia and this is my beloved queen, Sonia." Marluxia kissed her knuckles making her blush.
"Oh, stop! You're making me blush!" Sonia swooned.
"And yes, that is correct. How interesting it is to see you again, Sora," Marluxia said.
"'Again'?" Sora asked. He turned to Donald and Goofy, confused. "YOU know 'im?"
Donald and Goofy shook their heads.
"A shame you've no memory of me, because I remember you exceedingly well. Although...it's THOSE memories I'd soon erase. And you obviously wouldn't know Sonia. She's new but she is very powerful," Marluxia said. Sonia giggled insanely and looked at the trio.
"I don't know what you're saying," Sora said.
"Nor should you. Nor will you ever, for that matter," Sonia said. The trio glanced at them with confused faces.
"Now, if you'll permit me, I've come to ask a favor," Marluxia said.
"Favor? You have got to be kidding me," Sora said. Donald & Goofy nodded in agreement.
"Please hear what we have to say. I'm sure you've noticed..." Sonia said. She mused on this for a moment and Sora raised his eyebrows for her or Marluxia to continue.
"Well, perhaps not. But you should know that maiden with you, Rapunzel, is the very light of this world. I would see you guard her from its dark horrors," Marluxia said.
"Huh?" the trio asked as they took defensive stances.
"Starting with you two, right?" Sora asked.
"All the Organization seeks is balance. You must understand, our ultimate objective is not to clash with the light. We seek to complement it. Use that Keyblade...to keep Rapunzel safe," Sonia said as she and Marluxia vanished into a dark corridor.
"Rapunzel's light..." Sora said. Goofy scratched his face and Sora looked around. "Hey. Where did they go?"
"I guess they musta run on ahead," Goofy said.
"Then we'd better go find them." They continued through the forest in search of Flynn and Rapunzel. Soon the forest turned into marshland and the fog obscured their view ahead. Still no sign of them, Sora sighed.
"I wonder where they went," he said.
"Don't worry. They couldn't have gotten too far," Goofy said. A hooded figure quickly hid behind a tree.
"You just had to stop and talk," Donald said. Mother Gothel peered at them from beneath her cloak.
"Hey! Blame the has-been and the freak, not me," Sora said.
"I think you mean Marluxia and Sonia. I bet that's the name the has-been and the freak would prefer," Goofy said. Mother Gothel averted her gaze and began to leave.
"Hellooo? Rapunzel? Flynn?" Sora called out. She stopped at Rapunzel's name and turned back, lowering her hood.
"Excuse me, good travelers. Do you know Rapunzel?" she said. They turned to her as she walked toward them and exchanged glances.
"Uh, yeah... Sort of," Sora said.
"Why?" Donald asked.
"My apologies. I'm Rapunzel's mother. The poor child left home without a word, and I've just been worried sick. Please tell me: where is my dear, sweet girl?"
"We'd tell ya, but we lost her," Goofy said.
"By accident," Donald said.
"We could look together," Sora said.
"Lost her?" Mother Gothel scoffed. "You're of no use to me."
She waved them off and continued walking.
"I'll find her myself," she said.
"She ran away from home?" Donald asked.
"What if Marluxia and Sonia were onto something back there?" Sora asked.
"You trust Organization XIII?"
"What? No! Of course not. But...what if?"
"I agree. Why is Rapunzel in danger, and what darkness is after her?" Goofy said.
"Well, guys, the first step is to find her." They searched for Rapunzel and Flynn, eventually exiting the marshland into a more bright forest. Soon, they heard a voice.
"Wh-wh-whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy, boy, easy! Settle down. Whoa, whoa!" Rapunzel said.
"That voice!" Sora said.
"It's Rapunzel!" Goofy said. Ahead, a terrified Flynn had his back pressed against a rock while Rapunzel attempted to calm down a large white horse. The angry-looking horse peered at the chameleon atop Rapunzel's head. Pascal motioned with his three-toed front feet to settle down. The horse, wide-eyed, raised an ear and set his rump down on the ground with a dispirited whinny.
"You are such a good boy! Yes you are," Rapunzel said as she pet the bridge of his nose and his tail started to wag. "Are you all tired from chasing this bad man all over the place?"
The horse nodded sadly.
"Excuse me?"Flynn asked.
"Nobody appreciates you, do they?" Rapunzel asked. Rapunzel moved closer to give him a hug. "Do they?"
The horse shook his head.
"Oh, come on. He's a bad horse!" Flynn said.
"Ohhh. He's nothing but a big sweetheart," Rapunzel said as the horse nuzzled against her. "Isn't that right...Maximus?"
Maximus stamped his foot and whinnied at the attentive petting as Flynn griped on the forest floor.
"Wha... You've got to be kidding me," he said. Maximus glared at him.
"Look, today is kind of the biggest day of my life, and the thing is, I need you NOT to get him arrested," Rapunzel said. She helped Flynn up and Maximus narrowed his eyes at her. "Just for twenty-four hours, and then you can chase each other to your hearts' content. Okay?"
Flynn begrudgingly offered a hand, but Maximus refused, looking away.
"And it's also my birthday. Just so you know," Rapunzel said. Maximus grumbled softly and offered his hoof. They shook, their scowls unbroken. Rapunzel looked ahead, seeing the trio running toward them.
"Rapunzel!" Sora said.
"You're here. And you're okay!" Rapunzel said. From behind her back, Maximus punched Flynn in the side and smirked.
"Yeah! You too," Sora said.
"And look! I made a friend," Rapunzel said as Maximus walked over. "Meet Maximus. You could say Flynn introduced us. And where one goes, the other follows."
Maximus inspected them dubiously.
"This is Sora, Goofy, and Donald. They've been helping me," Rapunzel said. Maximus nodded and Flynn got up, clutching his side and pointing onward.
"Come on, the Kingdom's not far," he said.
~~~~
They crossed the bridge and entered the castle town, Rapunzel giggling to herself all the way.
"Rapunzel sure looks happy," Sora said.
"She does," Donald said.
"Well, her dream's gonna come true. They're sendin' the lanterns up after dark," Goofy said.
"Cool! We don't wanna miss that!" Sora said. After dancing at the town center, a man shouted for everyone to head to the boats for the lanterns. The sunset and the trio watched from one of the docks, Maximus from another, as Rapunzel and Flynn took a boat to the middle of the lake. They gazed up at the castle against the darkly lit sky.
"I've been looking out a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what it might feel like when those lights rise in the sky. What if it's not everything I dreamed it would be?" Rapunzel said.
"It will be," Flynn said, calmly.
"And what if it is? What do I do then?"
"Well, that's the good part, I guess. You get to go find a new dream." They look up as a solitary lantern peeked out from behind the castle, floating slowly up into the sky. Rapunzel hastily stood up, rocking the boat and grasping at the stern, as multitudes of floating lanterns pooled out of the castle gates. Soon the entire kingdom was enveloped in a flock of lights floating softly into the air. Rapunzel leaned her head on the wood as she gazed longingly at the magical sight. She turned back to Flynn holding two of his own in his hands. She happily sat back down.
"I have something for you, too," she said. She pulled out his satchel and he stared at it. "I should have given it to you before, but I was just scared. And the thing is, I'm not scared anymore. You know what I mean?"
He placed a hand on the satchel and moved for her to put it down.
"I'm starting to," he said. They set free their lanterns and they joined the swirling bunch in the sky. Flynn gazed at Rapunzel, seeing the happiness on her face, then looked toward the satchel, thinking to himself. When the festival died down, they docked the boat on the edge of the lake and Flynn got out.
"I'm sorry. Everything is fine. There's...just something I have to take care of," he said. He grabbed the satchel and she looked back and forth between it and him.
"Okay," she said.
"I'll be right back." He turned to leave and Pascal climbed onto her shoulder.
"It's all right, Pascal," she said. They both sadly watched him go. From Sora's place at the dock, they watched the lights in the sky.
"Wow!" he gasped. They sensed a disturbance from behind as Reaper Nobodies and Monokumas appeared on the wharf. They got up and turned around, irked.
"Could you guys have possibly picked a worse time?" Sora asked.
"I don't think they appreciate the moment, Sora," Goofy said.
"Not one bit!" Donald said.
"It's time for these wet blankets to go!" Sora said as the three of them summoned their weapons.
"Yeah!" Donald and Goofy said. They took care of the Nobodies and Monokumas plaguing the wharf as Rapunzel waited by the shore with Pascal. Out of the fog over the water emerged a small sailboat.
"Eugene?" she asked. From shore, she saw what looked like Flynn steering the sailboat with the stolen tiara in his hand. "Eugene!"
Unknown to Rapunzel, he was out cold and tied to the mast and helm.
"Oh dear... He's run off with the crown and forgotten you," Marluxia said as he and Sonia appeared behind her.
"No. He wouldn't. Who are you?" Rapunzel said. They didn't answer and she looked back at the boat, still drifting away.
"Forget Flynn Rider. You know where you belong, and it's not with him. And I wish I had your pretty tiara. Now..." Sonia said. She and Marluxia motioned with their hands and two Reaper Nobodies and two Monokumas appeared in front of Rapunzel. She ran away in fear and Marluxia and Sonia smiled. She ran toward an opening between two large rocks, trying not to stumble when her braided hair caught on a fallen log. She pulled on it, trying to free it from the branch when she heard a voice.
"Rapunzel!" Mother Gothel said.
"Mother?" Rapunzel asked. She walked back to the shoreline, where the Nobodies and Monokumas had disintegrated and torn into pieces and Mother Gothel stood with a tree branch in her arms, out of breath. She perked up at the sight of Rapunzel.
"Oh, my precious girl!" she said.
"Mother..." Rapunzel said as she ran into her arms.
"Are you all right? Are you hurt?" Mother Gothel asked as she touched Rapunzel's face.
"M-Mother, how did you--"
"I was so worried about you, dear. So I followed you. And I saw them attack you, and--" Mother Gothel hugged her tightly. "Oh my. Let's go. Let's go, before they come to."
Rapunzel stopped and looked back at the boat on the lake. She slowly turned back to Mother Gothel, holding a green lantern in her hand. Rapunzel paused as Mother Gothel set the lantern down and opened her arms, beckoning her. Rapunzel's lip quivered and she started to cry, running into her mother's embrace. Mother Gothel stroked her hair as she sobbed. Sora, Donald, and Goofy entered and saw the two leaving.
"Hey, isn't that Rapunzel?" Sora asked. He cupped his hands to his face. "Wait! Rapunz--"
A dark corridor opened and Marluxia and Sonia appeared.
"Show some decorum," Marluxia said.
"You again!" Donald said.
"Marluxia! Sonia!" Sora said.
"The girl has found her dear mother. You should let them be," Sonia said.
"And why is that?"
"Because Rapunzel is far too important. Atop her tower, she must remain out of sight, and live out her days with Mother Gothel," Marluxia said.
"And never see anyone else?" Goofy said.
"But that's like...locking her in some prison!" Sora said.
"That is EXACTLY what it's like. Rapunzel's hair holds the powerful magic of healing. And yes, Mother Gothel wants it for herself. As do others. And, if Mother Gothel's actions will protect Rapunzel, preserve her...then she is doing the Organization a favor," Sonia said.
"What favor?"
"Let's say she's keeping Rapunzel on the shelf for us. An extra pawn in case you fail to find the remaining guardians of light, and we have occasion to call on other hearts of light instead. A New Seven Hearts to fill out the ranks," Marluxia said.
"'New Seven Hearts'?"
"Yes. Seven who inherited the princesses' light after their role was fulfilled," Sonia said.
"So, you don't care about her. You guys just want Rapunzel for your own purposes! Well, you're done here!" Sora said as he summoned his Keyblade.
"Hmph. I just knew you would go and make a scene. Very well, then it's lights out for you," Marluxia said. He extended a hand, blowing a pink wind toward Sora. He dropped the Keyblade, his eyes drooping.
"Sora!" Donald and Goofy exclaimed. They ran towards him as his vision got hazy, his ears muffled.
"You always were such a sound sleeper," Marluxia said. Sonia giggled and wrapped her arms around Marluxia's arm as Sora fell to the ground. Meanwhile, a recently escaped Flynn dashed on Maximus over the bridge away from the city. The morning sun brightened the sky as he rode toward the forest, encountering Donald and Goofy hovering over a still-sleeping Sora.
"Whoa, Max! Whoa, boy," Flynn said. They slid just short of them.
"Flynn!" Goofy said.
"Is Sora okay?" Flynn asked.
"We don't know," Donald said.
"We keep callin' his name and shakin' him, but he won't open his eyes," Goofy said.
"Sora!"
"Wake up!"
"Hmm... Unresponsive sidekick... Wait a minute. I know how to fix this! Max, give him a wash!" Flynn said. Maximus licked Sora's face with his long tongue, rousing him from his sleep. Sora opened his eyes seeing Flynn and Maximus looking down at him. Donald and Goofy peeked into view.
"Sora!" Donald and Goofy said as he sat up.
"Well, that did the trick. Nice work, Max!" Flynn said. Maximus smiled haughtily. Sora stood and held his head.
"Huh? How did I end up..." he asked as the events came back to him. "Oh no! Flynn, Rapunzel's being held prisoner!"
Donald and Goofy nodded.
"That's right. In her mother's tower," Flynn said. They trotted forward.
"This calls for a rescue," Flynn said. He smiled down at Sora and extended a hand. "Are you with me?"
Sora gave a small laugh.
"Yeah," he said. Flynn pulled Sora up onto the horse with a proud cackle. Donald jumped up onto Sora's shoulders and Goofy tagged along on Maximus. Suddenly, they lost height.
"Uh-oh!" Goofy said. Maximus's legs buckled, struggling to hold them up, but his face changed to one of determination. He let out a whinny and stood straight up.
"Let's go, Max," Flynn said. Maximus reared back and charged forward. They raced through the forest in the direction of the tower when they were intercepted by a group of Nobodies and Monokumas.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Max!" Flynn said. Sora, Donald, and Goofy nodded to each other and jumped off Maximus, summoning their weapons.
"We'll take it from here, Flynn. Go help Rapunzel," Sora said.
"Thanks!" Flynn said. He took off with Maximus, leaving the Nobodies and Monokumas to them. As they followed along through the forest, their path was filled with Heartless and more Monokumas. They defeated each wave in turn. By the time they arrived, Flynn had climbed up and entered the tower.
"Rapunzel! I thought I'd never see you again," Flynn said. He looked up, seeing Rapunzel chained and gagged. Her eyes widen as Mother Gothel sneaked behind him, striking a hidden dagger into his side. Rapunzel struggled to get free, crying out as Flynn fell over onto the floor. Mother Gothel looked down at him, squirming in pain on the stone floor. She tugged on Rapunzel's chains trying to lead her deeper into the tower, the girl desperate to get free.
"Rapunzel, really! Enough already! Stop fighting me!" she said. Rapunzel, pulling back, lost her balance and fell over, the gag slipping from her mouth.
"No! I won't stop! For every minute of the rest of my life, I will fight! I will never stop trying to get away from you! But...if you let me save him, I will go with you," she said. Mother Gothel raised an eyebrow.
"No! No, Rapunzel..." Flynn grunted. He attempted to crawl on the floor but the pain was too great. Pascal looked on helplessly.
"I'll never run... I'll never try to escape. Just let me heal him...and you and I will be together--forever, just like you want. Every- thing will be the way it was. I promise. Just like you want. Just...let me heal him," Rapunzel said. Mother Gothel released Rapunzel and shackled Flynn.
"In case you get any ideas about following us," she said to him. Rapunzel rushed to his side.
"Eu...Eugene!" she said. She brushed the hair out of his eyes and he clutched his side, struggling to sit up against the wall. She checked at his wound, obviously bleeding.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. Everything is gonna be okay, though," she said as she gathered her hair into her arms.
"No...Rapunzel..." Flynn groaned.
"I promise. You have to trust me." She placed her hair over his wound.
"No! I can't let you do this," he said. They stared into each other's eyes.
"And I can't let you die," she said.
"But if you do this...but if you do this, then you will die."
"Hey. It's gonna be all right," she whispered. He gave the very smallest of smiles.
"Rapunzel... Wait," he said. He began to stroke her hair, his face moving closer to hers, and with a swift motion cut off her hair with a shard of the broken mirror. His hand fell to the floor, dropping the glass, as her hair turned brown, its healing ability lost. She looked down at him in shock.
"Eugene, what--" she gasped. Absolute terror erupted from Mother Gothel's face.
"No!" she screamed. From the strand in Rapunzel's hands, the once golden locks of hair turned a deep brown. Mother Gothel tried to gather them up in her arms before the magic was lost.
"Oh no. No..." she said. Unable to stop the transformation, she grabbed her hand, watching it become wrinkled and withered.
"What have you done? What have you DONE?!" she yelled. The aging spread across her body like a weed, her skin turning pale and her hair a pallid gray. She screamed out in sudden shrieks, her body moving feebly, as she covered her decrepit face with her hood. She writhed about the room, crossing closer to the window, where Pascal pulled on the long bunch of hair, causing her to spill out of the tower. She screamed as she fell, aging out of existence, the shroud flying down through the air as Sora, Donald and Goofy reached the base of the tower. Marluxia and Sonia watched from the hill.
"Fallen to darkness... We can't allow her near our pure light now. Her presence would only cast a pall over it," Sonia said. Marluxia motioned with his arm, suspending the cloak in midair surrounded by petals of pink. An orb of darkness burst forth and branch-like limbs erupted from within, followed by a tail. Another set of limbs and the creature crashed to the ground, the darkness pulling back, revealing a large tree-like Heartless, the Grim Guardianess. It growled down at Sora, Donald, and Goofy, who summoned their weapons.
"What happened up there?" Sora asked.
"I don't know, but we have to stop that Heartless," Donald said. The Grim Guardianess flew toward them, its tail moving like a serpent, as its large mane of leaves crashed to the ground, sending pollen everywhere. Donald and Goofy were sent into a sneezing fit as thorns surrounded Sora. He struggled to get free of the thorns' grip before the Heartless slithered around the tower, spiraling to the top. Sora broke free from the thorny tether as cherries fell from the sky. Sora, Donald, and Goofy raced across the hill avoiding the cages of vines that blocked their way, as the cherry bombs exploded on impact with the ground. Dodging the torrent of bombs, Sora reached the tower and ran up its stone exterior. The Heartless was soon no match for Sora and his Keyblade and was knocked from the tower. Inside, Rapunzel clutched Flynn.
"Don't go. Stay with me, Eugene," she said. Sora, Donald, and Goofy ascended the tower, seeing Rapunzel over Flynn's body. She grabbed his arm and placed it against her hair.
"🎵Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine. Make the clock reverse🎵," she sang through her tears.
"Rapunzel," Flynn said as he opened his eyes.
"🎵Bring back what once was mine.🎵"
"Hey. Rapunzel."
"What?"
"Rapunzel... You were my new dream." Tears welled up in her eyes.
"And you were mine," she said. Flynn blinked once more and his eyes closed, his body falling limp. The trio looked on sadly as she moved her hand toward his face.
"🎵Heal what has been hurt. Change the Fates' design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine🎵," she sang. She moved her hand over his heart and leaned in closer, her face nearly touching his, her song nearly a whisper. "What once was mine."
She sobbed, a tear falling onto the rogue's skin. It settled there, glowing into the shape of a flower. A light burst forth from Flynn's wound, wresting Rapunzel from her sorrow. Sora, Donald, and Goofy stared open-mouthed at this sight. The healing magic swirled into the air like strands of hair, wisping around Rapunzel, her eyes wide. A six-pointed flower magically bloomed from the wound, before the light disappeared inside of him. She moved closer to his face, brushing the hair out of her eyes as Flynn slowly took a breath and opened his eyes.
"Rapunzel..." he said.
"Eugene." she gasped.
"Did I ever tell you...I've got a thing for brunettes?" He smiled and Rapunzel was overcome by joy.
"Eugene!" she said. She threw her arms around him and he leaned on his side to embrace her. Sora, Donald, and Goofy smiled with glee, and Sora threw his arms around the other two, grinning from ear to ear and Flynn tightened his hold on Rapunzel. Later, they all stood at the base of the tower, the warm sunlight bathing over them.
"Wow, Rapunzel! You're finally gonna get to see your real home," Sora said.
"I know! I mean...I can't believe it. I can finally be with my real family! I couldn't have done it without your help," Rapunzel said.
"You're welcome," Donald said. She giggled.
"Well, from where I'm standing, the Kingdom couldn't ask for a better princess. And I couldn't have asked for better sidekicks!" Flynn said. Sora brushed a knuckle across his nose. "Thanks."
"Yes, thank you so much," Rapunzel said.
"Happily ever after," Donald said. Sora crossed his arms.
"Mh-hm," he said.
"Now, Flynn, you and Maximus play nice," Goofy said. Maximus and Flynn exchanged glances.
"Huh?" Flynn asked. Maximus whinnied with laughter. "Fine."
Rapunzel took Flynn's hand and they stared into each other's eyes.
"You're gonna be great," Sora said.
"Huh?" Rapunzel and Flynn asked.
"We haven't seen the guy controlling the monsters in a while, so that's one less worry."
"But there's still a chance that he might be around here somewhere," Goofy said.
"Well, if he comes back and tries to bother Rapunzel again, then Flynn will keep her safe. And we three won't be far behind."
"Come on. Rapunzel's the tough one, if you ask me," Donald said.
"True. But nevertheless, I won't let her out of my sight," Flynn said.
"Oh... Eugene," Rapunzel smiled.
"'Eugene'?" Sora asked.
"Oh! That's my real name. Eugene Fitzherbert. That's right. I never told you guys," Flynn chuckled.
"That's different," Donald said.
"I think it's a great name!" Goofy said.
"Me too. Nice to re-meet you, Eugene," Sora said.
"Hey! I thought I was the only one you were going to tell," Rapunzel said to Eugene.
"Don't worry. I've saved plenty of Fitzherbert-y secrets just for you," Eugene replied.
"Really?"
"Hey! What are you two lovebirds talking about?" Sora asked, pointing at them.
"Nothing!" Eugene said.
"Nothing," Rapunzel giggled.
"Hey, you can tell us!" Donald said.
"Yeah, it's not nice to keep secrets," Goofy said.
"This one is none of your business," Eugene said.
"Maximus, get him!" Sora chuckled.
"Huh?" Maximus glared at Eugene, an inch from his face, and Eugene stopped, unsure of what to anticipate. Pascal crawled onto Rapunzel's shoulder with a determined look and jumped over to Eugene's, sending his long sticky tongue into his ear. Eugene reeled back and clutched his ear, Pascal jumping off with a squeal of glee.
"You have got to be kidding me!" Eugene said. Rapunzel and the rest burst out laughing. Maximus smiled at Eugene, waggling his eyebrows as Pascal chilled on Eugene's head. Soon after, the trio left the Kingdom of Corona.

Royal Dinner
Varian was a little nervous to be heading to the castle, along with Quirin and Ruddiger. He could tell King Frederic still didn't like him much, even though Varian had been one of the citizens to fight valiantly against Zhan Tiri. Rapunzel had assured him that her father was slowly warming up to the idea of Varian as a good guy, and that although he hadn't admitted it, Frederic had been impressed with Varian's celebratory fireworks display earlier.
Still, Varian suspected that Arianna and Rapunzel were the only royals who really wanted him to be there for dinner. He would try to make a good impression anyway, that was why he and Quirin were bringing food- apple pie fresh from the farm. It had cooled during the journey from Old Corona and would probably be at the perfect temperature when dinner was served.
“Varian! Quirin! And of course Ruddiger! I'm so glad you could make it!” Rapunzel ran up and hugged them. She still missed Cass, but she was able to genuinely smile now.
“Remember, Rapunzel. We wait for the guests to be announced. And they really should be bowing before us.” Frederic pointed out. Evidently, he was serious about Rapunzel behaving more like royalty and less like a friend.
“Frederic, it's fine. I'm sure they were just about to bow.” Arianna came to their rescue.
“Your Majesties.” Quirin bowed, and so did Varian. Ruddiger jumped off Varian's shoulder and rubbed up against Arianna's ankles. Frederic gasped, but Arianna just laughed and petted the raccoon.
“Really, Frederic. It's just a harmless animal. Certainly better than an umlaut at any rate, and far less annoying.” Arianna maintained.
“Did someone say umlaut?” a perky voice asked. The voice belonged to a thin brunette woman Varian didn't know.
'Speaking of annoying...' Arianna thought secretly.
“The name's Willow, Arianna's sister. I used to be the proud owner of an umlaut, but I traded it for this.” Willow held up a cube with smaller colored pieces in 6 different shades. “It's a puzzle I'm told is completely unsolvable.” she bragged.
Varian's interest was piqued. “Can I try?” he asked.
Willow laughed. “Go ahead, you'll see it's impossible.” she said.
Varian twisted the pieces over and over until all the colors were lined up on each side. “Got it.” Varian announced. Arianna stifled a laugh.
“Did I mention how glad I was that you invited friends, Rapunzel?” Arianna smirked.
“I can't believe you solved it. You must be one smart kid.” Willow judged. She turned to address Quirin. “And who are you, the little genius' father?” she assumed.
“Yes, Varian's my son. I'm Quirin.” said Quirin.
“Well, you're a cute one.” Willow replied.
“Willow!” Arianna snapped. “I'm sorry, she has terrible manners.”
“I only told the truth.” Willow grumbled.
Quirin looked embarrassed, but Willow was only briefly shamed. “You're from that farming family, right? I remember when we were kids, Darianna and I snuck on to a farm on the outskirts of Corona and stole a bunch of apples, which we threw at boys we like. Darianna got Frederic right in the face! I think he still has the scar.” Willow recalled. Varian had to laugh, but he covered it up with a cough, so that Frederic wouldn't dislike him even more than he already did.
“That is enough, Willow. You will stop telling these humiliating stories and behave. We're about to have dinner. Our other guests, Eugene, Lance, Kiera, and Catalina are already waiting.” Arianna hissed.
Varian was relieved. The more people around, the less likely Frederic would focus negatively on him. But as they walked to the dining room, he noticed Frederic would periodically look at him and scowl. Rapunzel was wrong, the fireworks had hardly impressed him if he could still look this angry around Varian.
“We don't have room for everyone at the dining table. Varian you'll have to sit at the kids' table with Kiera and Catalina. Sorry.” Rapunzel apologized.
“It's the better table. We don't have to bump elbows with the grown ups.” Catalina said.
“And we can turn our napkins into spitballs!” Kiera added excitedly.
“Oh, I wish I was at the kids' table.” Lance sighed.
“I'm sure Varian will be just fine over there. Where do you want me to place the pie we brought?” Quirin asked.
“In the center of our table, next to the turkey and stuffing.” Arianna answered.
“I bet I can eat more stuffing than anybody!” Kiera bragged.
“You're on!” Catalina took up the challenge.
“I'm in too.” Lance declared.
“I'll just eat what's put in front of me.” Varian said meekly.
“Tell me again why we thought Varian was a better fit than Lance for the kids' table?” Eugene whispered. Rapunzel just giggled, and Pascal flicked his tongue out.
Frederic took a seat at the head of the adults' table, with Arianna on his left and Rapunzel on his right. Next to Rapunzel was Eugene, then Lance. Willow was next to Arianna and on her other side was Quirin. Everyone bowed their head in prayer.
“We thank God for providing us with good food and good company. In the name of the Lord, let's eat. Amen.” Frederic prayed.
“Amen.” the group chorused.
Frederic then began serving the turkey. Varian noticed that his piece was quite small, and entirely made of dark meat. Frederic glowered at him, as if daring the boy to complain.
“L-looks good.” Varian stammered.
“Aw, you got a crummy piece.” Kiera opined, shoving turkey into her mouth.
At the adults' table, things were a little better. Everyone had a plate full of delicious food and King Frederic was explaining to Willow how the demon Zhan Tiri had been defeated by his daughter. Rapunzel was modest, and told Willow that all her friends had helped, listing each one by name and including Varian and Quirin.
Willow turned to Quirin. “So you're a man of action. That's very attractive.” she noted.
“Willow, please. Quirin is a widower.” Arianna snarled.
“Then it's obviously been awhile since he was last complimented by a pretty girl.” Willow argued. Arianna gave up trying to discourage her pushy sister, while Quirin blushed and pretended to be very interested in his napkin. Varian felt sorry for his Dad, and wished he could change places with him, even if it meant being near Frederic.
“The turkey is really good.” Rapunzel said, trying to find a neutral topic.
“It's delicious.” Lance agreed, mouth full.
“And the stuffing is simply incredible.” Eugene added, taking a cue from Rapunzel.
“Wait'll you try the pie. It's one of my best recipes.” Quirin bragged.
“I do love sweet things.” Willow mused.
“No. Just no.” Arianna hissed.
“Two bowls of stuffing! Beat that!” Kiera said to Catalina.
“I only managed 1 and ½.” Catalina acknowledged softly.
“Three bowls. Guess I win!” Lance said with a burp.
“Ahem. Now that everyone's enjoyed dinner, we'll move on to dessert. Which in this case is just pie and nothing else.” Arianna looked at Willow pointedly. Willow looked as if she had a smart reply, but Arianna was glaring daggers at her, so she wisely held her tongue. She did give Quirin a few longing looks, which Quirin desperately tried to ignore. He and Varian ate their pie silently, each feeling sorry for the other's predicament. It was a good pie, but that didn't make the meal less awkward. And when dessert was finished, they bowed and took their leave, both very glad the royal dinner was over.
The End
Blame tumblr for the idea of Willow flirting with Quirin. I had more fun with this than I probably should have. :D

Pizza and Caviar
I was doing so well working on my Dark Kingdom AU today and then I had to watch High School Musical and this was born! It’s part high school au/boarding school/bad dad Quirin au! I really hate myself for this guys lol! Also Hugo and Raps are twins because I say so! Hugo and Raps are 16, Eugene, Lance and Cass are 17, and Var is fifteen. Enjoy!
Rapunzel stepped excitedly out of the limousine. Her twin brother following albeit less excitedly. She wrapped her arm around him, pulling him close despite his protests. “Can you believe it, Hugo? We’re finally here!” She squealed, bouncing on her feet.
“Yeah, real exciting, sis.” Hugo said dryly, removing his sister’s arm from around him and hefting his bag over his shoulder. “I’m going to go find my room.”
“Oh, okay! Text me when you’re all set up and we’ll grab lunch!” She called, the only response she got was the small wave over his shoulder. She felt slightly less excited now that she was alone. Her parents had said goodbye last night as they had very important work meetings today that couldn’t be missed. She pulled her suitcase from the car, rolling it behind her as she headed to the registration table.
***********
Varian rocked back and forth on his heels, fingers digging into the straps of his small backpack. His too big pants being held up by a too big belt which was covered by a too big shirt and flannel. He smiled up at the building, his home for the next school year, his sanctuary.
“Hey, Varian.” He turned at the voice calling him, Cassandra, his neighbor, stepping out of her car. “Didn’t see you much this summer. Your Dad must’ve been pretty pissed about that B, huh?”
“Yeah.” He answered, eyes darting to the ground. They both knew his home life wasn’t the greatest, but his dad only did the things he did because he knew Varian could be better, he wanted him to be better. “He had every right to be, I should’ve tried harder.”
Cassandra gave him the same sad look she always did whenever they talked about his dad and he ignored it just like he always did. She stuffed her hands in her tight black skinny jeans, her middle showing slightly thanks to her red crop top. “Let’s just go check in. We can talk about this later.” She said, moving ahead. He followed closely, knowing there never would be a later, there never was.
***************
“This is it, Lance! We’re finally seniors! We’re practically royalty now. Can you believe it, buddy?” Eugene exclaimed excitedly, punching his best friend in the shoulder as he pulled into a parking space. He turned off the beat up car, giving it some much needed relief despite the fact they had just driven down the street.
“Oh yeah! And next year we’ll be free! Free to do our own thing without Oldie breathing down our necks.” Lance responded, pulling their bags from the car.  Eugene couldn’t wait. He’d be eighteen and then it was out of the orphanage for him, he had given up on being adopted a long time ago. His eyes scanned the building, noticing a petite blonde girl struggling to pull her suitcase up the stairs. He jogged over ignoring Lance’s shouts of protest.
“Hey, Blondie, need help?” He asked. The girl looked up, her bright green eyes meeting his brown ones. She wore a purple skirt that went to the middle of her thighs, her pink t-shirt tucked into the waistband. Her golden sun pendant bounced off her collarbone as she tugged on the suitcase, her hair in an intricate braid laced with flowers.
“That would be great! My-my brother was with me but he went on ahead.” She laughed, the sound bringing a smile to his face.
“So you’re freshmen?” He asked, lifting the suitcase for her.
She laughed again. “No. We’re juniors, we transferred.”
“Oh, where from?” He questioned, leading her to registration.
“We’re homeschooled. Took a lot of convincing to get our parents to agree to this.” She explained, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear.
“Must be sticklers. I’m Eugene, by the way.” He said, offering her his hand.
“Rapunzel.” She answered, shaking his hand rather enthusiastically.
Eugene was about to say more, but he could hear Lance calling for him in the distance. “Well see ya later, Blondie.” He skipped away, smiling to himself as she waved. Maybe this year would really shape up to be something special.
************
It had been fairly easy to find his new room, even easier to unpack without his sister hovering over his shoulder. As much as he loved Rapunzel she could be a handful sometimes, and today he just wasn’t in the mood. Their parents had always favored her. He never tried to take it out on her but sometimes that required putting distance between himself and his sister. He never told her about his feelings, however, she’d just overreact. So when he had been accepted to this boarding school it was the opportunity to branch out and be his own person without having to worry about his parents or sister overshadowing him. He didn’t expect them to agree on the terms that she also join him. She was their precious sunshine child he didn’t think they’d want to give her up like that. He agreed regardless he’d still have his space more or less. He just hoped his roommate would be tolerable. What he didn’t expect was for him to be cute. Sure the other boy was wearing clothes two sizes too big, but his blue eyes were absolutely enchanting and each freckle only seemed to highlight them more. Even his buck teeth were perfect.
“Hi, I’m Varian.” He introduced, sticking his hand out for him to shake.
“Hugo.” He said simply, shaking his hand, the movement causing Varian’s sleeve to move up a bit revealing a nasty bruise. He didn’t say anything about it, it would be rude to ask. So he picked a different topic. “I didn’t think they let freshmen room with upper class men.”
Varian rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Oh they don’t. I’m a junior. I just skipped a grade. I’m fifteen.” He added on the last bit as if for clarification. He watched as he unpacked, his items barley taking up any space in the drawers, his bed just having a blanket and no sheets, no pillow. Hugo wasn’t an idiot, the boy obviously didn’t come from much, so he tossed one of his pillows onto his bed. Varian’s eyes wide in shock at the action.
“I packed too many. It was an extra.” He said as a way of explanation, making his way to the door, not wanting to hear his protests. Part of him knew he wouldn’t get any, Varian looked at the pillow as if he’d just given him the world. He felt a bit of pity stab his chest for the other boy, calling over his shoulder. “I’m meeting my sister for lunch. You can come if you want. My treat.”
“I- thank you.” Varian answered, following him out. He knew Rapunzel wouldn’t mind the extra company. He hoped she was having a good experience with her roommate.
***************
“And then I thought maybe we could paint the walls. Do you like pink? I like pink. Or maybe a blue? Oh, we could paint a mural!” Cassandra groaned as Rapunzel went on and on about the various things she wanted to do to their shared space. It was just her luck to get paired with the peppiest girl in the school. Not that Rapunzel seemed like a bad person, she just wasn’t the kind of person she could she herself being friends with.
“I’m going to go get lunch.” She announced, pushing herself out of her bed, effectively cutting off whatever rant the girl had gone off on.
“Can I come?” Rapunzel asked. Cassandra inwardly groaned, how could she say no to those big green eyes, especially when the way her freckles framed her face reminded her so much of Varian.
“Fine.” She said, wincing as the girl squealed.
“Yay! I can already tell we’re going to be the best of friends!” And Cassandra couldn’t help think the girl was terribly mistaken.

MotH S2 Finale
Matters of the heart Season 2 episode 15 Fanning the flames {OPENING CREDITS} {open to Isaiah and Benny being led into the hideout with their hands bound; behind them, Gaia is being pulled in with a muzzle around her snout; Isaiah looks tiredly around at the hideouts stone walls before coming to a large wooden door; once it’s opened a cult member kicks him from behind} Cult member 1: Get moving kid! {Isaiah glares at them but does as told and walks into the large tactical room; Larkspur turns around and faces them} Larkspur: What is this!? Vergus! Vergus: Forgive me mistress. we did obtain the supplies we set out to collect but we also found some other points of interest. {Larkspur walks up to them and bends over to meet Isaiah face to face} Larkspur:  I'm surprised you survived... and judging from your deteriorated state I'm guessing you still have the power, yes? {Isaiah spits at her} Larkspur: Insolent little-! {She smacks him to the side; Isaiah harshly hits the ground} Isaiah: AUGH! Benny: Isaiah!! Larkspur:  and who is this one? Vergus:  we don't know she appears to have been traveling with the child. but she's quite strong for a little girl.  she wasn't easy to capture. {Cult member 2 holds up his bitten hand} Cult member 2:  really not easy… Larkspur: whatever the cost it was worth it. good job you three. we finally have the upper hand. we tried to do this peacefully but you people of Corona love making things so very difficult.  you just had to ruin things, didn't you? Isaiah: you're the only one ruining things… Larkspur:  do you want another crack to the face?... I thought not.  I have spent the last few weeks trying to figure out how to best your kingdom once again.  and now I think I finally have an idea.  your father has always been a thorn in my side.  but now I have you. Isaiah: in case you haven't noticed…. I'm not exactly in the best state right now... how can I possibly be of any use? Larkspur:  see that's the best part you don't have to do anything.  you said so yourself you're too weak to do anything. meaning I can do whatever I want to you and you can't fight back for the life of you.  {Larkspur looks up at the Vergus} Larkspur:  so here's my plan. Vergus,  you stay here with a few members and keep an eye on the boy and the Vessel.  meanwhile I'm going to take a small group and go to Corona.  I think it's about high time I invited Varian to a little soiree!  but this isn't just going to be any little shindig.  for what he's done to us that Alchemist deserves to burn.  will let him see his precious Boy again and will even remove the power from him. Vergus: Mistress? Larkspur:   however once the main event is done how about we play a little party game. Benny: p-party game? Larkspur:  that's right sweetheart a fun little party game.  The Alchemist will have his son back free of any power. and we will have the moonstone shard.  However the ending to this game will turn in our favor.  once we have The Shard in our clutches why don't we play a little game of family Massacre? Isaiah: *gasp* Larkspur:  well I never said it'd be fun for you... take them to the cells. and make sure they’re locked good and tight. Vergus: Yes mistress. {They start dragging Isaiah to the cells; once there the throw Isaiah, Benny, and Gaia into different cells; Isaiah lands harshly in the cell next to Cassandra; Cassandra gasps and runs to the side of her cell} Cassandra: Isaiah!  how on Earth are you here!? {Isaiah lies still groaning slightly} Benny:  those bad guys captured us and took us here… Cassandra:  he doesn't look good... it's becoming too much for him. Benny: what is? Cassandra:  he doesn't have much left... look, little girl… Benny: Benny! Cassandra:  sorry... Benny... Isaiah is very sick and the fact that he's here means that the bad people that brought you here are planning something really bad. Benny:  can we stop them? {Cassandra looks down at Isaiah and back at benny} Cassandra:  I don't know.. I really don't. {Cut to Zapada resting in a chair in the parlor with baby Sterling in her arms and Rapunzel at her side} Rapunzel: Ohhhh! He’s so cute! Zapada: Yes he was born a bit sooner than I thought he'd be... but the village physician says that he's healthy so I suppose it's all right. Rapunzel:   you just have to remember to keep him warm especially with fall just getting here. early birds like this one are prone to getting sick. Yes, you are! Yes, you are! {Rapunzel boops Sterling’s nose; off to the side of the room Varian and Eugene watch them} Eugene:  I’ll hand it to you he's a cute little guy. Varian: I'm just happy that they're both okay.  speaking of that I know this is a tender moment but I think we should focus on what our plan is now that we have the hideouts location. Eugene:  you're right.  we need to make a plan. we shouldn't just be running headfirst into a battle. Varian:  yeah about that… Eugene: that's exactly what you were going to do isn't it? Varian:  originally yes... I'll admit I got a bit overzealous… Eugene:  look I know what they did to your family is terrible but we have to keep our heads if we run in there right now with absolutely no plan we’ll be walking right into their hands. Varian: That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about. I want to apologize if I've come off as... you know… {Eugene looks downtrodden and pulls him out into the hall} Varian: Eugene? Eugene: I should have said this before... I'm sorry too. Varian: for what? Eugene:  Rapunzel and I came up with a plan to meet the cult on the North Shore cliffs.  we came up with the plan to Ambush them.  I promised I'd always protect the kid.  I know that... no amount of apologies could ever replace what you and Zapada have lost but- {Varian pulls him into a hug} Varian: Eugene none of this was your fault. you were doing what you thought was right as king and captain of the Guard.  I am always going to miss my son. that is never going to change but I'm not going to let you sit here and blame yourself for something that wasn't your fault. I've been down that road. It’s not fun. {Eugene smiles at him before hearing the main door open; he looks up and his face contorts in horror; Varian whips around to see Larkspur entering} Larkspur: What a touching little moment that I just walked in on. sorry to spoil it. You two Go. {Two cult members shove past Varian and Eugene into the parlor: Zapada screams as she and Rapunzel have swords put against their throats} Varian: NO! {Eugene unsheathes his sword; Noremoth comes running down the stairs} Larkspur: Norie! Noremoth: Larkspur? Larkspur:  I'm so happy to see that you're okay! {She goes to hug him but he moves away from her} Larkspur: aww are we still sour about the Battle? Noremoth: you left me behind to die of course I'm still sour! I will never not be sour! Varian: What are you doing here and what do you want!? Larkspur:  so rude. I came all this way just to see you.  I have a little gift. {Noremoth narrows his eyes} Larkspur:  however you see this gift is quite tedious to carry around so if you wouldn't mind coming back to my place to receive it. it would be a huge help. Varian: We’ll never go anywhere with you!  for all we know we could be walking straight into a trap! Larkspur:  I thought you might say that. {Larkspur snaps her fingers and a cult member rips Sterling from Zapada’s arms} Zapada: NO! Rapunzel: PUT HIM DOWN! Varian: DON’T HURT HIM! Noremoth: Larkspur that is enough! Return the child to it’s mother immediately! Larkspur: Ah ah ah!  I think you forget who has the upper hand here.  with one word my men here could dispose of the two women and the little baby. I don't think you have a choice but to listen to my demands. {Varian looks at Eugene} Eugene: what do you want? Larkspur:  just as I said I want to take Varian and his family back to my place so that they can see the little gift I prepared for them. however you and the queen will stay here. and if I suspect anybody of following us just the slightest little hint and I will destroy all of them.  do I make myself clear your majesty? Varian: Trust me he understands.  we’ll do as you say. Eugene: Varian! Varian:  Eugene we do not have a choice. we'll be fine. Noremoth:  I request that I come along as well. Larkspur:  oh does little Norie what to re-join our ranks? Noremoth: don't put words in my mouth.I'm coming along to make sure that you don't get ahead of yourself. Larkspur:  excuse me? Noremoth:  these people have done more for me in 2 weeks then you have done for me my entire time in your little cult. Larkspur:  and you honestly think you could defeat all of us? Noremoth:  I'd go down trying at least. Larkspur:  find then you can come along but we're doing things my way… {She snaps her fingers and cult member cuffs him} Varian: noremoth! Noremoth:  you are just not a nice lady! what did I ever see in you!? Larkspur: come on let's get moving. Varian:  wait! Zapada just had a baby... she can't walk very far. she needs to rest. if you want all of us to arrive there alive you'll give her one of the horses {Larkspur glares him down but smirks} Larkspur: Alright...Prepare a horse. Noremoth:  no tying her to the horse, Larkspur! Larkspur:...killjoy...finneee... {The cult member returns Sterling to Zapada and she holds him tightly crying; Varian rushes over and picks her up bridal style and follows the cult outside} Zapada: Varian? Varian:  we're going to be okay... I promise. {Cut back to the cells at the hideout; Isaiah coughs and wheezes before rolling over} Cassandra:  he's getting worse… Benny: what was your first hint?  the coughing, the fever,  or the relentless groaning? Cassandra:  all right this isn't a time for sass little girl. Benny:  sorry but we have to do something!  at this rate he's going to die. {Isaiah opens his eyes to see Cassandra reaching through the bars to stroke his hair; he gasps before coughing and backing away} Isaiah: Miss...Cass? Cassandra:  Hey kid... nice to see you again. Isaiah: How long have I been out? Cassandra:  a few hours maybe? it's hard to tell time in here. Isaiah:  what's happening to me? Cassandra: Zhan tiri’s power... it's becoming too much for you to handle. your body is giving out on you. Isaiah:  I have to find... a way out of here… {He tries to get up and move toward the cell door} Cassandra: there is no way you are going anywhere in that state. Isaiah: that's what you think...  Benny are you okay to move? Benny: mmhmm! Isaiah:  okay good... I'm going to try and find something to pick the lock and then- augh! {He coughs up more black liquid and it runs down his chin; his new claw-like nails scratch at the stone floor leaving marks} Cassandra:  don't push yourself, kid! { Isaiah glares up at her with a blackened mouth} Isaiah:  I don't take orders from you… {The door to the room opens and Vergus walks in} Vergus:  are we having fun? getting along okay? Cassandra:  if you’ve just come to patronize us get out… Vergus: cranky today, sweet vessel? Cassandra:  call me that again and see what happens! Vergus: oooh!  we are feisty today!  anyway I'm not here for either of you. I'm here for this one. {Turns and looks at benny} Isaiah: Benny! {Benny gets in a defense position} Vergus: HA!  isn't that cute? This tiny tot actually thinks she can fight me. that's just adorable. but I'm not here for that either I'm actually here to offer you a proposition. Benny:  what's a..propo- Cassandra: a proposition... he's making you an offer of some sort. Benny: What do you want? Vergus:  well most of our group are older people.  adults who have nothing left to lose.  that's why they join us. Society has treated them wrongly for many years.  We’re just evening the playing field. Cassandra: get to the point, Vergus! Vergus:  my point is you've had it quite rough. I can tell. those Rags you're wearing,  your small frame. you haven't had a good meal in ages have you. probably haven't slept in a nice bed and quite a while.  we have all of those here. and we'd protect you. Benny:  what are you saying? {Vergus unlocks the cell door and holds it open} Vergus:  join us. we can teach you all the tricks.  make sure you grow up right. you'll be the first of a new generation in a new Society.  you'll have a family. {Benny looks up at him and he smirks. She looks over at Isaiah and walks over to the open door} Isaiah: No...benny.. {Benny places a hand on the cell door bars; she contemplates for a minute before glancing up at Vergus with rage; she slams the door closed on his fingers with her inside the cell} Vergus: AAAAUUUUGGHHHH!!! Benny: I'd rather be with Isaiah then be big old ugly meanie like you! {Vergus clutches his broken and bruised fingers} Vergus: URRGHH! ROT IN HERE FOR ALL I CARE! {He storms out; Benny’s legs give out} Isaiah: Benny... are you okay? Benny:...I-I’m okay… Cassandra:  kid... you just did what I wish I could have done a million times over. I like your spunk. {cut to Varian walking with the group; Noremoth walks up next to him} Noremoth: When we get there try not to be yourself. Varian: what? Noremoth:  you like to be snarky... especially when you're in battle. Varian: what do you want me to do? roll over like a dog? Noremoth:... just this once? Varian: …I can't believe this. Noremoth:  if not for me do it for your family. Larkspur isn't like me. she doesn't have a code or anything when it comes to fighting. she kills without Mercy. you should already know that. Varian:  trust me... that I already know. {They reach the hide out entrance; a large stone door is carved into the side of the mountain; Larkspur knocks in a rhythm and it opens} Larkspur:  hurry up. let's not diddle daddle. Opps! sorry did that bring back some, I know the word “dad” was in that word. Varian: son of a- {Noremoth holds him back; Larkspur walks in giggling} Varian:  you carved your hideout into the mountain? Larkspur:  actually know these tunnels were already here. this used to be a mine.  we just added some personality.  some blood here, a skull over there... you know to really breathe life into the place. {A skeleton with his skull off to the side slumps in the corner of the hall; Zapada winces and holds onto Sterling} Larkspur: What? oh him? yes obtaining this place was a bit tedious.  the original owner of the mine was still here. Luckily Norie took care of that as you can see. {Noremoth bites his lip; Larkspur throws open the doors to the main commons room; all of the cult looks over in shock; Larkspur steps up on a small stone stage} Larkspur:  gather around everyone!  there's a lot of fun to be had today! {Varian helps zapada off the horse} Larkspur:  right.  you there you can take the horse back to the Stables.  and where is Vergus? Cult member:  he was seriously injured earlier we were forced to amputate some of his fingers. Larkspur:  oh for the love of... you leave them alone for 5 minutes.  you know what I'm talking about Varian, haha! {Varian growls} Larkspur:  anyway could somebody please go to the cells and take everyone out. I want you to bring them here. Cult member: Yes, mistress! {They run out the door} Varian:  are you going to tell us what we're here for now? Larkspur:   Patience Varian!  you can't just jump right into the main event! you have the moonstone Shard yes? {Varian glares at her} Larkspur:  I'll take that as a yes.  how's about we make a deal? Zapada: a deal? Larkspur:  yes... an exchange of sorts!  I have something you want and you have something I want! Varian: knowing you whatever you have is certainly not something I want. Larkspur:  oh I beg to differ!  you can come in now! don't leave us waiting! {The cult member walks in with Cassandra and Benny whilst  practically dragging Isaiah;  Varian’s eyes widen and his pupils dilate} Isaiah: D-dad? Varian: IF THIS IS YOUR IDEA OF A JOKE- Larkspur:  not at all!  aren't you happy to see him? I assure you he's real. Isaiah: DADDY! {Varian tears up and sobs; he goes to run to him but is held back by various cult members} Varian: LET ME GO! Noremoth: Larkspur what is your game here!? Larkspur: you see I sent some people to regain some supplies from the damage you did to us those weeks ago.  and what do they find instead but your precious little boy.  being the Good Samaritan I am I brought him back here and treated him as an honored guest.  he got the nicest cell! Zapada: Copilul meu! Larkspur: well, I did find your son but he seems to be in Dire Straits. seems like the magic is finally working its power. his body can only hold out for so long. if you give me the moonstone Shard I'll be more than happy to remove his affliction and let you go on your way. what do you say? I'm being more than generous. { Varian looks around at everyone and then at his son; with a sigh, he removes the vial with the shard} Larkspur:  very good Alchemist!  and just to make sure things stay even. Noremoth!  I want you to bring me the shard and someone else can bring me the child.  no wrong moves here. don't take advantage of my good nature. {noremoth walks over to Varian} Noremoth:  give me The Shard... Varian she's not kidding she will slit Isaiah's throat in front of you if she suspects anything.you have one shot to actually get your son back here don't blow it. Varian: how can I be sure that's really Isaiah? Larkspur:  excuse me? {Isaiah looks tiredly over at his father} Varian:  I want to believe that is my son. I really do.  I won't deny that this is a dream come true for me right now. but I saw him die. Larkspur:  no. you saw him fall off a cliff. my only guess is that the power triggered itself like a defense mechanism. afraid that its host was going to perish. that's the only reason your boy survived.  but since you're so insistent. {She snaps her fingers; a cult member makes a small cut on Isaiah’s arm} Isaiah: AHH! Varian: STOP! PLEASE! OKAY! Larkspur:  see? he's real! he bleeds! Varian:.. I... I'm sorry buddy. {Varian hands over the vial to Noremoth; Isaiah is dragged up on stage; Noremoth brings over the shard and takes it out of the vial} Noremoth: you have the Blasted shard. now... do what you promised. {Larkspur takes out the vial of potion and roughly grips Isaiah’s mouth, forcing it open} Isaiah: ah! {she pours the liquid into his mouth and shoves him to the ground; Isaiah swallows the iron tasting concoction; his eyes glow bright green and pink and crackles of magic appear around him} Benny: ‘Saiah!! {He claws at his chest coughing and hacking; Varian pulls Zapada and Sterling close; Larkspur sits looking at her nails; Isaiah coughs up a black substance onto the ground and gasps for air} Larkspur: There! all better?  his Affliction has been removed. {Isaiah shakily gets up} Varian: Isaiah? Isaiah: Dad? DADDY! {Isaiah jumps off the stage and runs into his family’s arms: sobbing all the while} Isaiah: Dad! I mi-missed you so much! Varian: My boy...you’re really here…my little boy. {he cups his sons face and wipes his tears away} Zapada: oh Copilul meu! I thought you gone! Isaiah: I’m here Zapada... {Noremoth and Cassandra smile warmly} Larkspur: aw What a touching family reunion!  now what do you say? Varian:... thank you… Larkspur:  oh trust me Varian... you're going to wish you hadn't thanked to me. {Noremoth notices her pull a sword from the stand behind her; Noremoth gasps and shoves her over} Noremoth: IT’S A TRAP! {larkspur gets up} Larkspur: KILL THE- AH! {Larkspur turned around to see Benny holding rocks as she has just thrown one at her} Larkspur: Little brat! Noremoth: VARIAN! {He tosses a sword at him; Varian catches it; Cassandra looks up at the chandelier in the room and then back at Benny} Cassandra: how many of those rocks do you have? Benny: umm... like maybe six? Cassandra: good enough! { she grabs Benny and throws her up to the chandelier} Benny: WHOA! Hehe! Lets do that again! Cassandra: start throwing the rocks at everyone! {Cassandra Goes to run into battle but her own power starts taking her over} Cassandra: augh! Varian: Cassandra! {Isaiah grabs more rocks and helps benny by chuck stones at the cult members; he hits one in the head and watches them drop} Isaiah: bullseye! {Cut to Noremoth fighting Larkspur} Larkspur: So should I take this as your official resignation from our little group? Noremoth:  what do you think!? {She blocks and parries him} Larkspur: you want to know what I think!?  I think your roast duck was always dry! Noremoth:.... oh now that's just hurtful! {Varian protects Zapada the best he can by fending off multiple attacks} Zapada: Varian! Let me do something! Varian: like what!? Zapada; ummmm {she looks around and gets an idea} Zapada:  grab my waist! {Varian blushes} Zapada:  oh stop it and just do it! {He does so} Varian: Okay I have your waist and now what!? Zapada: spin. Varian: what? Zapada: spin! { he spins and Zapada kicks her legs out kicking the ones surrounding them in the face} Zapada:  I learned that one from the princess. and all with a newborn in my arms. {Sterling giggles; Cut to Benny on the Chandelier; she hears cracking and looks up to see the chandelier getting ready to fall} Benny: oh that's not good! {she jumps just as it starts falling} Benny: AHHH- OOF! {Isaiah catches her} Benny: ‘SAIAH! Isaiah: you know I've heard of taking the quick way down but that was ridiculous. Noremoth: AUGHHH! {Everyone turns to look just as Cassandra has run Noremoth through with a sword; Noremoth coughs and sputters before falling to his knees} Varian: NOREMOTH! Larkspur: well... this is what happens when you betray the people closest to you.  and without further ado! {she forces the Moonstone Shard into Cassandra's chest; A bright light shines it envelops her;  Cassandra screams in response;   what was once just a shard starts reforming into a corrupt Stone; Sandra's eyes flickering color as she starts losing her own conscience} Larkspur: HAHAHA! YES! FINALLY! { some of the cult members back away and even run} Isaiah: Dad! what do we do!? { Varian looks on in horror at what he's witnessing;  he rushes over and swings Noremoth’s arm over his shoulder} Varian: RUN! { the walls of The Hideout start cracking and rocks begin falling from the ceiling as Zhan tiri’s power takes over Cassandra’s mind; her eyes turn a bright purple; Isaiah grabs Benny and runs out with his family just as the entrance to the mine collapses; they all look back at the Fallen rocks that are now blocking what was the entrance to the mine} Zapada: is everyone all right? Isaiah:Yeah... I think I am. Benny are you okay? Benny: i’m okay… Isaiah: What about Noremoth? {Varian takes out an alchemy sphere and releases it over Noremoths wound  cauterizing it} Noremoth: NNGH! Varian:  it's all I can do for right now... it'll stop the bleeding at least. he's going to have to see the doctor in Corona. {Isaiah hugs them both} Isaiah: I missed you guys so much! Varian: we missed you too... more than you'll ever. I'm so happy to see that you're alive. how did you survive? Isaiah:  I don't know! I don't remember much. I remember falling into the water but then one of my attacks started happening. then I remember waking up on a ship and then. they took me to the dark Kingdom! I got to see the dark Kingdom dad!  oh by the way some really furry Hunter guy and the captain that saved me says hi. {Varian laughs} Varian: hi! Ahaha! Isaiah: By the way I was wanting to ask but we were in the middle of a battle so I didn't think it was the best time but.. who is this? {Isaiah looks at Sterling and both Varian and Zapada smile} Zapada: Copilul meu... meet your little brother, Sterling. Isaiah: sterling!? I have a little brother and you used my name!? {Sterling giggles and smiles} Isaiah: hi!  hi little guy! I promise I'm going to be the best big brother I could ever be! { Varian looks over at Benny who's standing in the background} Varian: Isaiah? who is that? Isaiah: oh! Benny c’mere!  Dad this is Verbena or benny!  she helped me when I was in the dark Kingdom!  I wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for her! Benny: hi… Zapada: Where are your parents? surely they're worried sick! Isaiah: Benny is an orphan… {Zapada gasps and looks over at Varian; Varians face sofens} Varian: How old are you Benny? Benny: seven… Varian:  7 years old and surviving on your own? you shouldn't be forced to do that.  tell you what. we have an extra room in the house. it seems like she is grown quite fond of you and you seemed quite fond of him. if you want you could always join our- {Benny tackles him} Varian: oof! haha! I'll take that as a yes! Benny: I finally have a mama and Daddy again!  and I gets siblings!? YES! {The all hug each other; fade to the  entrance of old Corona;  Rapunzel walks up to  Lily, Akina, and Nathaniel Rapunzel: Anything yet? Akina: Nothing ye- OH WAIT! {Everyone gets up; off in the distance Varian and family ride in on horseback} Akina:  they're here! it looks like they returned safely! and- wait… Adira:  what is it small one? Akina: it can't be… all: WHAT!? Akina: it's Isaiah... he's with them. Eugene: what!? {he grabs the eyeglass from her and looks through it; Eugene chokes up and laughs} Eugene:  she's not kidding. he's alive! he's there with them! {Lily stands up} Lily: ISAIAHHH! {Isaiah singles his horse to gallop and the rest of the family follows with everybody else running up to the horses as well;  once they reach each other Isaiah jumps off of the horse and tackles Lily to the ground with is two other friends joining in} Lily: You’re alive! You’re really here! {She sobs into him} Isaiah: yeah I'm really here.   and I have something that I've been wanting to do since I left! Lily: wha-!? {Isaiah kisses her} Eugene: He-what..H-he's kissing my daughter. he's kissing my girl! hold up- wait- no. he is kissing Lily! Lance: Eugene let them have this. {Isaiah pulls away} Lily:  okay I can officially say I am a happy princess… {Isaiah hugs all of his friends;  awesome the distance at the entrance of the mine the rocks blocking it shift} {END CREDITS}

Here we go! Part 2 of Chapter 2 of “Children of the Cosmos”! As you can see, I finally settled on a name for this story, which means I’ve also cross-posted it to Ao3. If you would like to go check it out there, just click here! I’ll be posting future updates both here and to Ao3, so don’t worry about missing anything.
Enjoy the update!
“You can do that,” Kiera asked, eyes wide.
“Only as a last resort,” Quirin replied.
“But if it could help him---”
“It’s dangerous,” Rowena cut in. “Binding another’s magic is a very delicate process, and it can easily go wrong. It’s not something that should be done lightly. There’s still a chance Varian could recover on his own.”
“So we’re going to wait,” Quirin finished. “We’ll be keeping a close eye on him, but we’re hoping he can pull through without us needing to intervene.”
“In the meantime, I want to check the three of you over,” Rowena added. “Especially you, Rapunzel. I image a rebound like that must have hurt.”
“What? No, I’m fine,” she assured. “I mean, I kind of had a headache for a little bit, but it went away not too long after I came outside.”
“Still, best to get ahead of any potential problems than wait for them to manifest.” She offered Rapunzel a kind, but tired, smile and held out her hand. “Come on, we’ll head down to the river. Quirin, love, stay and keep an eye on things?”
“Okay,” Rapunzel agreed, sharing a look with Pascal as she stepped forward and took her mother’s hand.
The walk down to the river was silent, their minds all back in the wagon with Varian. The knowledge that, for now at least, he was doing as well as could be expected had bled some of the stress away, and Rapunzel could feel some lingering aches and pains. That explosion of power had been completely unexpected; her magic and Varian’s had never reacted that strongly or that negatively. Usually they would glow in response to the other whenever they sang their incantations---Rapunzel had probably had more fun that she should’ve hiding near Varian and quietly singing so as not to give away her position, trying not to laugh as Varian, hair and freckles glowing, tried to find her hiding spot---but that had been the extent of it. Their magics reacted to each other all the time, but it had never been violent or that…strong.
“Alright, we’ll start with Kiera, then I’ll look at you, Catalina. Rapunzel, you’ll go last because it will take longer to look you over,” Rowena declared, settling down onto the soft grass of the riverbank and motioning for Kiera to join her.
It wasn’t the first time Mom had used her own magic to make sure they were okay; they’d often get into more than their fair share of trouble, and sometimes that meant getting more than their fair share of bumps and bruises. Still, it was always a sight to see as Mom coaxed a portion of the river to her hands, and it was always a little odd when she then coaxed the water to surround them. Rapunzel didn’t fully understand how exactly the magic-guided water told Rowena exactly what was wrong, if anything, but she did know that different spots would light up to highlight a potential injury.
Kiera checked out okay, and so did Catalina. A bit rattled, of course, but it would be more concerning if they weren’t. Rowena sent them back to the camp before beckoning Rapunzel closer. Rapunzel sat down before her mother and worried a bit at her bottom lip.
“Deep, steady breaths, Sunbeam,” Rowena reminded her, voice gentle and calm as she lifted out a new chunk of water.
Rapunzel obeyed, straightening her back and closing her eyes. The water, which should still be freezing this time of year, felt pleasantly cool against her skin. It moved against her, and it almost felt like Rapunzel was swimming. Her scalp tingled---which shouldn’t happen, since she wasn’t using her magic, and her magic had never responded to the presence of water before. Varian’s did, which made sense because everyone knew the moon affected the tides. The sun didn’t, so her magic had never reacted to water. Fire certainly, which had led to an interesting (in hindsight) afternoon when she was little. Rowena pulled the water away and returned it to the river.
“So, am I okay?”
“Yes,” Rowena replied, though the way she said it made it seem as though there were more to it. “Although, it would seem as if there was a slight transfer of magic between you and Varian.”
“Transfer?”
“Varian’s illness has destabilized his magic, and the Moon’s power was desperately seeking some sort of stabilizing force. When you tried to heal him, his magic latched onto yours. The resultant combination was too powerful, which triggered the explosion, but in the course of it all, a fragment of the Moon’s power was transferred to you. And a fragment of the Sun’s power was likely transferred to him, as well.”
“That’s a good thing, though, right,” Rapunzel asked. “The Sun’s power is all about healing the physical, so that means he should be able to get better on his own.”
“It’s not that simple, Rapunzel,” Rowena replied. “There is always a duality. Your magic can destroy just as easily as it can heal, just as Varian’s can. I never taught you the destructive incantations because you’re both so young; I had planned to teach you both on your eighteenth birthdays, but now…”
She pulled out the small dagger she kept on her at all times; the entire thing was made from the same piece of inky black stone, and the hilt was inlaid with silver in an interwoven design. At the top of the hilt was a crescent moon, inlaid with the same design as the hilt, glowing a luminous icy blue and swallowing a smaller blue circle. The stone glowed anytime Varian got close to it, but it had never really reacted to her before. Now though, the blade glowed the same vibrant blue as it did near Varian.
“Rapunzel, I need a small lock of your hair.”
“What? Why?”
“Just, trust me, please.”
Rapunzel bit her lip, but handed over a small piece of her hair. Rowena held the strands taunt, and placed her dagger beneath them. Rapunzel winced as Rowena made to sever the strands. When she opened her eyes, she gaped at the still intact lock of hair.
“How--?”
“Part of the Moon’s power involves indestructibility,” Rowena explained. “It’s a defense mechanism; the Sun is less concerned as it has the power to burn any who would seek to destroy it. The Moon is not quite so gifted, and so developed a different way to preserve itself. Since this is certainly a result of the transfer…that may mean Varian was given some of the Sun’s heat.”
“What does that mean?”
Rowena took a deep breath. “It means his magic may try to burn the sickness out of him, and that won’t turn out well for Varian.”
                                       -----------------------------
The next few days were akin to torture. Varian didn’t seem to make any progress toward recovery, and since whatever it was that he caught seemed to interact with magic, Rapunzel and Catalina had been barred from reentering the wagon until further notice. Kiera stuck by them, whether out of solidarity or because she’d rather be ignorant of just how bad off their brother was, Rapunzel didn’t know and she wasn’t going to ask.
She busied herself with the camp’s upkeep, constantly fetching water or cooking food or doing laundry---anything she could think of to ward off her own spiraling thoughts and concerns. That fact that her hair was now apparently indestructible only concerned her when she thought of what that might mean for the fragment of the Sun’s power Varian had ended up with. He’d developed a fever, and Mom and Dad had been trying to contain it with constant applications of cloths soaked in cool water. The whole camp seemed to exist in an odd sort of limbo, and Rapunzel constantly felt like they were teetering dangerously on the edge of something.
On the third night, that feeling came to fruition.
Rapunzel and her sisters had bedded down for the night, enveloped in the sleeping sacks they’d made for the calm summer nights when they wanted to do some stargazing. Pascal was curled up next to her, a constant source of comfort throughout the whole ordeal.
“His fever’s getting worse,” Mom murmured, thinking they were all asleep. “I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but we’re running out of time.”
“You have what you need,” Dad asked, keeping his voice low.
“Yes. We should get to it now, while the girls are asleep.”
“Do you think this will work?”
“It has to,” Mom replied. “I don’t know what more we can do if it doesn’t.”
Fear coursed through Rapunzel as she heard her parents reenter the wagon. Once the door closed, Rapunzel squeezed her eyes shut and curled up into a ball. Pascal gently nuzzled against her cheek, and she prayed to whatever power would hear her that her brother would be okay come the morning.

CHAPTER 8 - After the breakout
Varian would hate to admit it, but he missed Camalia, the filthy manipulator. To be clear, he didn't missed the liar nor the traitor, he missed his friend, the one he knew. Well thought he knew.
After storming off the prison, the alchemist had time to think. His reasoning didn't make sense. He thought about it over and over again. She couldn't hope to get him to break her curse. It was obviously magic stuff and he does science. Plus, if that's what she wanted, why wait so long to use him ? And whenever they were hanging out, he knew she was genuinely happy to just be here him, she genuinely enjoyed the moment. He thought about it and came to the conclusion that she was truly his friend, no lies about that. But none of that excused what she had done. And he couldn't bring himself to even remotely think about forgiving her. He was hurt, deeper than he thought he would be, wounded in his heart.
Ruddiger tried to be there as much as he could for his friend. But Varian was really upset. Within days, he hadn't smiled once. Sometimes, Ruddiger thought about how long it would have taken him to smile again without Camalia.
Unlike what the music mage thought, Varian was neither happy, safe nor far away from her. Actually, he was still around Corona. Even if he knew Rapunzel and her friends were far away, following the black rocks, he did not went after them. He was just so confused. On so many levels. So the first thing he did, mechanically, without even thinking about it, was go home. He was mad, angry and hurt. After he left the prison, he ran and ran to nowhere. And when he finally stopped, it was at the front door of his home. He stood there for a while. Through a window, the soft glim of the amber could be seen. His heart was beating out of his chest. With a trembling hand, he opened the door to his dad, desperatly reaching out to give him that last piece of paper he had time to wrote. His dad was there, but he was so lifeless and still.
Varian took a few unsure steps in before collapsing on the ground, sobbing and crying his heart out. He felt so alone. Out of pure despair, the alchemist started talking.
-I did horrible things, Dad. I-I didn't know what to do, you were gone and... I just wanted to save you and to... I wanted to make you proud ! I-I never wanted any of this ! I am so sorry, Dad... I'm sorry...
He tried to wipe his tears without any success. Now that he had started to pour his heart out, he couldn't stop.
-A-And I am terrified that even if I did free you from the amber, you weren't even alive anymore. I want to believe it. I love you, Dad. Please, I... please, Dad... I can't do this... I am not the son you wanted, and I know I have made countless mistakes but I-I swear that I'll change, I'll be a better version of myself, just... Just please, please, come back Dad. Please... I-I tried everything... Please...
Maybe his father heard him. Maybe the amber will melt anytime now, and his dad would be set free and everything will be fine again. Maybe... Maybe it just needs a few more minutes. Varian kept staring at the crystal, hoping that his dad would hug him anytime now. But nothing happened.
Ruddiger nudged his friend's hand and Varian turned a desesperate look to him. His cheeks were like two rivers, unable to stop, and tears were dripping of his chin, over and over again. His legs were numb, and his hands trembling. The wind coming from the open door was gently stroking his dark hair and teal strip. His chest was rising in rythm with his uncontrolable sobs. He looked broken, more, if that's possible, than before. Ruddiger jumped on his lap and curled up, giving him warmth and support, and that hug he needed so much.
The next morning, after sleeping on the ground near his father, Varian left his home again, leaving Ruddiger there, to watch over his dad. He needed to think. To think about everything, to see things in a new angle, and to find a cure for his dad. He had to keep going. He couldn't just give up. That's what Quirin would do.
-Okay Varian, you can do this. You can get through this, and bring your dad back. It's fine. It's okay. No problem, I've got this.
He looked at the road up ahead and all that he had to explore when he didn't even know what he was looking for. But he knew the answer was in Corona. He was pratically sure the answer was in Corona. The answer may be in Corona ?
-Yeah, no problem.
He took a deep breath.
-I've got this.
For a week, Varian searched for even the slightest lead to free his dad, but he didn't find anything. He looked everywhere, but of course, Quirin's case was unique. And like all unique cases, there was no books to tell you what to do. He was avoiding everyone the best he could, his knowledge of forests really helping him to survive. But did he miss his ridiculous jail mate. Oh boy, did he. From time to time, a memory of their time spent together was popping into his mind and he was angrily chasing it away. He really missed her.
For the fifth time that day, Varian closed one of the book he borrowed and moved on to the next. It was been a week, and he still had no idea what to do. And like everytime he was taking another book to read, he sighed :
-No problem, I've got this.
Like some sort of spell to keep him motivated. It didn't work well, but it was all he had. The alchemist tired eyes fell on the title of the book and he froze. "The History of Music Mages" The cover was rusty and covered in dust, like it hadn't been looked at in centuries. With all the delicacy in the world, Varian carefully opened it and started to eagerly read it. "Music Mages get their name from their way of using magic, wi-" He flipped a couple pages. "-he crystal tree, very important in their culture and heavily protected, and also the mel-" The alchemist grunted in irritation as he turned more pages. His eyes finally catched something interesting.
"The music mages were chased by the seven kingdoms in ancient times due ro their terrifying and powerful magic. Rumors said that one music mage once took over an entire kingdom all alone. No one knows if that's true. They first appeared in XXXX, after the construction of what used to be the town of Corona, before becoming an actual kingdom. People said they came out of nowhere, and needed help to even the simplest things. Repelled by their strange way to talk and act, all kingdoms decided to reject them, forcing them to become nomads. When they started attacking villages with their magic to get revenge, the seven kingdoms got scared and started chasing and killing them. Today none remains."
Of course she lied about that too. Her magic wasn't "not so powerful". It was so strong that all the seven kingdoms feared her tribe. Although this time he could see why she didn't tell the whole truth. The fear of being hunted down again might have caused the mages to hide their magic away in order to survive. Varian had to admit that back when they were studying musical magic, he instantly saw it was much more than what she thought. But like many other things he decided to trust her like the idiot he was. Come to think of it, she might be the answer. Maybe her mysterious magic could save his dad. But in order to ask her, he had to come back to prison, and the least we could say is that he wasn't so thrilled about that... But if it could save his dad... If it could make everything okay...
That's why Varian didn't struggle too much when the royal guards ambushed him.

DARK KINGDOM COMMUNICATIONS: Chapter Three
CHAPTER THREE
“It could be interesting!” Rapunzel grinned at Cass from her spot on the couch, mug of ginger tea in hand. “It would be like that Bachelor show, but all the contestants are dressed in Bear suits so the “Goldilocks” has to get to know them through personality alone, not by how they look. It will keep that superficial side out of the first impression and they can fall in love with who they truly are, not with their looks.” she rambled on about a reality show she thought of while she was working with her dad.
Cass snorted as she sipped her black decaf coffee, “I’m sure Eugene loved that idea.”
“He did!” she gushed, almost spilling her tea. With a meek smile she set it down on the coaster on the coffee table. “He actually helped me name it! “Goldilocks and her Special Bear””
Cass choked on her coffee and let out a real hearty laugh, “Oh my! Raps!” She couldn’t get another word out from how hard she laughed.
Rapunzel frowned at her best friend and crossed her arms, “I thought it was sweet because they are dressed as bears and whoever she chooses would be special to her…” she explained defensively.
“Right, sure.” Cass cleared her throat, trying to suppress any stray giggles. She set her mug next to Rapunzel’s and shifted so she could look at the blonde better.
Rapunzel pouted at her friend, took a pillow from the couch and whacked her with it in the arm.
“Hey!” Cass exclaimed before both of them fell into another giggle fit.
Once they calmed down Rapunzel started to tell her about her day and all that she learned and saw. “-My dad said that I have an eye for it!” she gushed, before letting her shoulder’s drop and let out a sigh. “I love law and the idea of helping people, but at the same time...I know I want more than being stuck in a stuffy office all day, you know? There’s a whole world out there...and I don’t want to miss the chance to explore it.”
Cass smiled at her friend’s passion and nodded, “I know what you mean. Sometimes you have to take what you want, don’t let anyone hold you back. If they try to push you down, you give them your best game face and say “No. This is my destiny and only I get to choose what I do.”
Rapunzel grabbed Cassandra’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, “I’m glad we’re friends...you understand me so well.”
“Me too, Raps, me too.” She snatched the pillow from her and whacked her back with a smirk. “But my house, my pillows.” Rapunzel shook her head as she laughed and then her eyes landed on the computer that caused her friend so much grief earlier. “I can’t believe I did ask you!” She took her friends other glove covered hand, to give her, her complete attention, “Did you do it?” Cass lowered her gaze, but a small smile formed on her lips, giving herself away. “Yeah, I did.” she murmured.
“Thank goodness your internet started to work again.” Rapunzel grinned and hugged her friend tightly, which Cass returned with less enthusiasm. “I’m so happy for you!”
“Thanks!” Cass laughed, patting her friend’s back, “I had to call the helpline, but we got it fixed before the deadline.”
“Thank goodness for Dark Kingdom Communications!” Rapunzel clapped her hand,a s she thought of the company her boyfriend worked at and would someday inherit.
“Yeah...Thank goodness.”
---
Varian felt his heart pick up in nervousness as Eugene gazed at him like he could see deep inside him and knew every thought and feeling passing through him,
“Well, aren't you going to let me in?” Eugene asked the boy as they have been standing in the middle of the hallway for nearly 3 minutes without saying a word.
He took the pizza and the soda from his arms, causing Varian to blink out of his dumbfound state. He nodded slowly and turned to unlock the door, “Right, um, just ahead of time don’t judge the state of my apartment and most of all..Don't. Touch. Anything.” He warned before he opened the door.
He paused and held the door in place, turning to his older friend with his finger out stretched warningly, “Anything.”
Eugene rolled his eyes and let out a sigh, “FIne! I won't touch anything! Yesh! You’re as bad as the Dragon Lady!!” He grumbled, pushing past him into the young man’s home.
“Dragon Lady?” Varian mumbled to himself, following Eugene only for his face to light up with realization, “Oh! Cassandra!” He closed the door and set his bag and keys on the only clear spot on the table next to the door.
Eugene set the pizza and soda down on top of a stack of books on what seems to be a coffee table. He plopped himself down on the tattered and patch covered couch as he gazed up at him, reading his expressions again. “Speaking of the She Devil, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me!” He exclaimed throwing his hands up dramatically, causing Varain to look at him once more with confusion.
“You are crushing on Cassandra!!” He accused, pointing his finger at him, “I knew there was someone you were going gaga over, but Cass?” he made a face, “Trust me, Kid, you can do better.”
Varian felt himself frozen in place, air barely coming in and out of his lungs. How did he know? He couldn’t have known? Was he that obvious? He was just trying to be natural and friendly and...hoped it would eventually be more. But right now he just wanted her to notice him! All at once all his senses came back and he rushed over to Eugene, waving his hands and shaking his head quickly “Nonononononono~! I am not! Pfft! I just want to be her friend…” he trailed off and caught sight of Ruddiger’s eye peeking through the door of his bedroom. He almost looked accusingly at him. Varian walked over to the door and shut it full, can’t have Eugene see him...not yet anyways. He let out a sigh and turned to look at him, “Fine...yes, okay? I like her, but she doesn’t even see me...I’m just the..the kid who lives across from her. She never gives me the time of day,” Eugene crocked an eyebrow and brought his and to his chin, rubbing his goatee as he gazed at him. “It’s not just a crush is it?” he asked seriously, causing Varian to reluctantly shake his head.
“Okay! I will help you!” He clapped his hands before reaching into his pocket for his phone.
“What?” Varian exclaimed, his eyes widening. Eugene held up a finger to silence him as he hit a contact on his phone, smirking slightly when the other end picked up right away, “Lance! Get your butt over here! Varian needs our help!” “What??” Varian repeated, not believing his eyes. Part one, Part Two  “Yes there will be snacks, Varian has a pizza….” Eugene nodded as he listened to Lance, “Yeah, we can order another. Great see you soon!” He hung up.
“What????” Varian repeated not knowing what was in store for him.

Best Laid Plans (7/?)
Fandom: Frozen (modern AU, no magic) Pairings: Helsa, established Kristanna, Rapunzel/Eugene, lotsa frohana Rating: T for now, M later almost for sure A/N: It’s Helsa. And Kristanna. So know I ignore or delete most anons okay?
She leaves him with Rapunzel to get more of the particulars, to fill out the client intake sheet, and assemble the base data that will be crucial to planning whatever event it is that Hans Westergaard could want. She takes her sopping bag into her office and shuts the door. She slumps back against it, breathing for the first time since she woke up.
This whole day has been a nightmare. She hopes that she is hallucinating, dreaming, something besides actually living in a reality where she has just agreed to spend over a month working side by side with Hans Westergaard. The very thought makes her stomach clench and this time it has nothing to do with her -
A tap comes on the door behind her and she chokes on a breath, stumbling forward.
It it is him she swears…
“Who is it?” She presses a trembling hand back against her errant hair.
The door opens and she steps back. Her body screaming just in case but she is not sure exactly what she is bracing against. She was clear with him. He knows she is not interested, that she will not cross her self-imposed boundaries, except has felt his heat now and it is burning through her defenses in a way that makes her feel like this could actually be something. Like they could actually, somehow, have a shot.
Her fingers twist into her stomach, clenching at the wet fabric of her test against the sensations mounting without her bidding.
The door clicks open and she is about ready to send him packing - to cancel the agreement - to burn this entire operation to the ground - when her sister’s concerned head pops around the corner.
“Hey,” she slips in as if she is afraid to open the door to wide, as if she might let in something unwanted after herself if she doesn’t enter quickly enough. She has a bundle under one arm and grimace on her face. “I ran to your apartment while you were in with Hans and grabbed you some dry clothes and a towel.”
She extends the package. Elsa knows her sister tucked the underwear inside an equally drab and shapeless shift. One time she had not been so discreet when passing sister her change of clothes at an event and her bra had fallen on the floor in front of Kristoff and Eugene and they may be like brothers but still. It is the principle of the thing.
Whatever modesty she felt in front of her other business partners, she does not feel in front of her sister. Still Anna turns to give her privacy and shuts the door firmly as Elsa sheds her soaked clothes for their dry alternative.
“So….” Anna leads with the tact of a bulldozer. “Rapunzel is working on an event intake flow.”
Elsa’s underwear sticks to her skin as she peels it off, shivering for more than just the cold, and towels off the remaining moisture.
“I would hope so,” Elsa cannot help but being glib. “It is her job.”
She can see Anna’s spine tighten. Her body reacting to Elsa’s tone.
“So we’re doing this?” Anna pushes on despite.
Elsa sighs. “We’re doing this.”
Elsa undoes her bun and shakes out her hair. It is a mess of damp and wet patches that promises to dry into a total mess. Everything is a mess.
How has less than seventy two hours passed and everything she has worked to set up for the last decade is coming unraveled?
“Rapunzel says it is a tight timeline.”
“Thirty nine days.”
Anna whistles under her breath. Elsa agrees mentally.
“What about the Clemmons wedding and -”
“We’re ahead on the Clemmons wedding. Most of their big deadlines aren’t for another two months.” Elsa tries to convince herself as much as Anna.
“Sure - there’s that - but then there’s all the others. The Red Rose Appreciation Dinner and the -”
Elsa listens to her sister list off all their spinning plates while she fits the soft cotton undergarments over her goose-pimpled skin. The easy fit of her shift is a comfort in the middle of what she knows is about the be the biggest mistake of her life.
“ - and I know I told you to listen to him, that we needed this, but this timeline - Elsa - can we do it?” Elsa doesn’t even have to see to know Anna is wringing her hands, second guessing herself.
Now dressed, Elsa touches her sister’s shoulder to signal she can turn.
“I’ll take it on.” Elsa meets her sister’s wide blue eyes. “I’ll need help here or there, and of course on the day, but this will be my project.”
Anna’s brow pinches and Elsa cannot stand beneath the scrutiny of her gaze. She turns back to where she discarded the towel earlier. She grabs it and pats her hair  to give her shaking hands something to do.
“After all, you said we needed this. And maybe we do.”
Anna shifts her weight from side to side.
“I did say that.”
They both know what isn’t being said.
After an eternity Elsa sighs.
“This will be fine,” she gave up on praying awhile ago, but she does it now. “This will all be fine.”
Something in Anna’s eye sparks and Elsa knows she isn’t fooling her, but she also knows that Anna isn’t sure enough yet to call it out.
She had pressed yesterday. She is smart enough to leave it alone today.
Elsa wonders how long it will be until Anna forces the truth out of her.
Her head hurts, but she convinces herself it is psychosomatic.
Thirty nine days. She can do this. She can keep it together for thirty nine days. She can make this her final act and set them up for the success she knows they all deserve.
“This will be a great time to updatie the standard operating procedures for clients processes. Really trim them up,” Elsa’s voice was just a bit too cheerful.
She does not need to hide here, but she is anyway. It is easier. The more she convinces herself everything is normal the less she has to consider that she isn’t.
Anna gives her the side eye. That sisterly intuition firing, but not willing to admit what she fears the most.
“Yeah. We should update that.” Is all she says, hands still twisting in front, and Elsa needs to change the subject.
She scrubs at her face: “Do I still has mascara all over my cheeks?”
Anna laughs and shakes her head.
“No. You’re good.”
They share a small laugh as Anna steps towards her.
“I meant what I said. If you ever want to change your mind, go a different direction, make a different choice - we will support you. And not just me and Kristoff. Everyone.”
Elsa meets her gaze, knowing exactly what she is prompting, but not ready to meet it. She smiles, instead, an over practiced smile. The one she uses when she wants to run and hopes Anna doesn’t notice.
Elsa isn’t sure it works, but Anna smiles in return.
“So we’re doing this?”
Elsa nods, regretting each motion. “We’re doing this.”
Anna’s smile widens as Elsa continues to pat her hair. She will have to braid it and hope for the best at this point. At least now she isn’t expecting anyone else to bust in with a buffet of breakfast goods and -
“Hey!” Anna was just about to call it good and duck out when Elsa caught her at the door. “Did Mister Westergaard leave his spread?”
“Yeah,  I think so?” Anna nods.
“Can you have Pascal bring me a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese?” She tries to look like she doesn’t care as she strides around her desk to her seat. “If there are any?”
Elsa had seen the spread. She knows they are there. This is a desperate attempt to seem uninterested. She knows it probably doesn’t work, but all Anna does is nod.
“Of course,” her hand lingers on the door handle and looks back at her sister once more. “Is there anything else?”
Elsa knows what she is asking. She knows exactly what she asks which is why she sinks down into her seat with a shake of her head and a sigh.
“Just tell Rapunzel to get me the specifics as soon as she can so we can make this happen.”
Elsa is good at giving tasks, and Anna is good at taking them. That is why they make such a great team. That is why this work means so much to them.
“I’ll have her report in ASAP!” Anna salutes and Elsa reciprocates with an honest smile. Anna has been with her through it all .
And that has been a lot.
When she shuts the doors Elsa sinks back in her chair for one moment, thinking. The only reason E&A Events exists the way it does is because of the insurance settlement from their parents untimely death. It had been the cash infusion they needed to make things happen and they had. At first it has been lower budget, but as their reputation and expertise grew- so had their pricing. Now they were here planning an event for an internationally known business man's son.
Butterflies erupt in her stomach at the thought. Elsa's mind whirs through all the work she will need to get done today on top of her regular responsibilities. She knows needs to start drawing up an extensive budget to submit to Hans Westergaard to have him approve and submit his deposit before she even allows herself to get any more flustered than she already is.  She cannot do anything though until Rapunzel gets the information into the pipeline.
She takes two deep breaths in her stylish, ergonomic, yet cost effective desk chair. All the air sucks in through her nose and then exhales through her mouth. That is the way to relax, or so her coaches and medical professionals had told her. She is about to call bullshit when the phone on her desk rings.
She frowns. She isn’t expecting a call now but only her clients had her direct line. No one would be calling if it wasn’t important. Before she has another thought she reaches out, picks up the receiver and:
“This is Elsa of E&A Events.”
“Hello Elsa,” she can practically hear his smile across the line. “I know I should have waited - given you enough time to miss me - but we are keeping things professional.”
Even as he keeps his tone light she picks up on a purring resonance tickling her ear down the line. Her cheeks heat as she tries to push past the embarrassment she feels at how her body responds even to just the sound of his voice.
Any idea she had about relaxing is long gone.
“Yes. Hello. What do you need for your event ?”
She emphasizes the last element because she knows she needs to. She has swam with enough fish to know when she meets a shark.
“I just wanted to confirm with you what I discussed with Rapunzel. Charming girl, by the way. Quite savvy.”
Elsa has barely had time to get dry clothes on and this man assumed she had her itinerary in front of her. Of course he did. Of course she should.
“Mister Westergaard - “
“Hans.”
“Mister Westergaard we just met less than half an hour ago and while I completely satisfied with Rapunzel’s capabilities there is a certain wait time that is specific to -” a knock comes at Elsa’s door with a quick open after. Rapunzel’s spikey bobbed head pops around the corner and Elsa nearly chokes. “- to - to - well - any event. We have agreed to assess you offer and give you an answer A.S.A.P.” She waves for Rapunzel to come in.
“Ah, so you haven’t spoken with Rapunzel yet.”
And the way he said it, they way it feels like he knows more about her own company than she does presses around her like a vice and she cannot allow it. She cannot allow this stranger to define who she is, what she is, what she services.
 She will not let him condescend her in general conversation.
“As expressed before, Mister Westergaard, the services we provide are deeply specific. Rapunzel just came in with your information." She waves her hand to bring Rapunzel and her tightly clutched file into her space. Rapunzel's eyes are wide and watchful as she helps Elsa spread out the official intake documents. "I will review it and have a full proposal set for you by end of day.”
Elsa scans the pages. There are numbers for expenses she is sure must be typos. There are zeros where she feels there shouldn’t be. Her mouth goes dry as her gaze darts to Rapunzel with a questioning gaze. Rapunzel, as if she knew it was coming, just nods and spreads her hands with a big smile. This has always been the goal of E&A Events. To access to affluent. To land the big fish. So why does Elsa's stomach hurt?
“So have you had enough time?” He almost seems to sense it her mental jaw drop over the line.
Elsa scanned the numbers for the budget first and mentally plugs in vendors. Availability will be the most challenging part of this event. It is summer and peak of wedding season. Many of her more popular, trusted vendors were sure to be booked, but she is fairly certain she can make it all work. It will be a challenge but not impossible. Still -
“You left my office less than half an hour ago, Mister Westergaard,” she buys time as she sorts through more paperwork and ideas and agenda never before seen in a standard client. "But I will keep you informed of the viability of this project."
“But you already know. I know you do. That is why I chose you. I know you want this.” he doesn’t wait for her to give a definitive answer. He doesn’t need it. That is what his lawyers are for.
She chokes back the instinct to see if he is recording, if this is a Pranked episode, if she really is the biggest loser in town.
“I learned long ago to never let myself want anything, Mister Westergaard.”
She can only count her blessings that he is not right in front of her when he responds, that he cannot see her discomforted flush. She is already figuring out how to not lean into his bait, to let his words sweep over her.
Or at least that is what she tells herself.
He is silent more than she expects. She looks up to see Rapunzel clutching a file to her chest looking about ready to pop and she knows this is it. The shoe is about to drop.
Hans’ voice come over the line, low and mellow:
“So did Rapunzel ask you about tomorrow’s schedule?”

Stand as One, Undivided: Ch. 1
Tumblr media
So, since there was some interest in seeing this, I present the first chapter of Stand as One, Undivided (Title taken from the song “With you by my side”) written with the lovely @phantoms-lair.
Summary: Cassandra returns to Corona after a year away for Rapunzel and Eugene's wedding. She doesn't come as a guest, but instead to keep things from going wrong, because nothing ever goes as planned for those two. Cass has come back to make sure things go smoothly for their wedding, since things tend to blow up (sometimes literally) around them. Things... do not go according to plan.
Chapter One: Back to Corona
(This literally came to be because of a comment Phantom made about the reason we didn't see Cass at the wedding was because she was in the rafters. Things grew from there. I promise it'll make sense in the next chapter.)
This is obviously New dream, but I swear if you see hints of other ships, I don't mind, though that is strictly up to personal interpretation.
Back to Corona
It had been a year since she’d seen Corona.
Cassandra hadn’t intended to be back this soon, but a flyer spotted in Vardaros had made her hurry back as fast as Fidella could carry her. Thankfully, Fidella was in fine fettle, it was spring and there was no end of bounty for one mare. Cass herself was a little thinner, but her own skill at archery and Owl’s willing assistance had allowed her to keep herself fed. She hadn’t had to dip into the pouch of coin Rapunzel had pressed onto her before she’d left too much.
Cassandra pulled her hood up as they reached the bridge. Best not to show her face. There were sure to be factions who had neither forgotten nor forgiven what she had done a year ago. Fidella’s ears perked up and she danced in place, whickering excitedly. She was happy to be back, at least. Cassandra gave the mare her head and she cantered across the bridge, practically prancing with her head up and tail flagged.
Chuckling softly, Cass reached down and scratched Fidella’s neck. “I know, girl. You can’t wait to see Max again.” She lowered her head, dropping her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Don’t you ever tell Eugene I said this but I can’t wait to see him and Raps again.”
Fidella whickered and playfully bucked in place before stretching her legs into a gallop. The closer they got to the city proper, the more signs of the festivities Cassandra could see. She grimaced playfully at a large tapestry being hung. A year and they still hadn’t gotten Eugene’s nose right. “It was much more obnoxious than that,” she said aloud to Fidella.
The city looked much the same as it had looked in her youth, but here and there she could see the scars of a battle hard-fought. A wall that had the distinctive shape of a spire of black rock carved deep into it. A series of holes from the same rock punching  a pattern in the wall of a house. But the scars weren’t that numerous and many had been transformed into something beautiful. Here, another set of holes had been inset with pieces of stained glass representing the sun-crest of Corona. There, a tumbled wall had been made into a terraced herb garden, the green tang of the growing things adding a distinctive scent to the air.
She could see Rapunzel's hand in all of it, every painted line and pocket of greenery. Corona’s beloved barefoot princess hard at work in restoring the damage done, a great deal of it by Cassandra’s own hand. She unconsciously clenched her hand in its custom armored glove and had to force herself to relax it when she felt the pull of the scars. It was long since healed but still bothered her in cold or wet weather.
She passed a giant dovecote and winced at the clamor of whirring wings and coos. Yep, that was King Frederic’s addition to the festivities. His motto should have been go big or go home, she thought with a snicker. Not that the queen was much better, she thought, laughing aloud at the sight of a massive net full of floating lanterns.
In spite of everything, it felt good to be back. Wheeling Fidella, she sent the mare down a side street away from the worst of the festival preparations. She spotted a familiar wall ahead and thumped her heels into Fidella’s ribs, loosening her grip on the reins. With a gleeful whinney, Fidella launched herself into a headlong gallop toward the obstacle. Cassandra laughed with delighted abandon as the mare took the jump over the wall with ease. They landed in what had been her private training ground, a space at the back of the guard barracks. It had suffered some damage in the invasion, but still looked so familiar that she smiled, running her fingers along a battered training dummy. She swung down from the saddle and pulled her hooded cloak close around her.
After unsaddling Fidella and leaving her to crop the grass, she followed along the wall until she came to a grate. She hefted it to one side and was pleased to see the tunnel was still clear. She slipped in and pulled the grate closed behind her. Even without a light, her feet still knew every step of the way. She found the small door at the opposite end and cracked it carefully to peer through. The sight of a familiar head bent over a desk sent a pang through her. Maybe she should have come back sooner. “Hi, dad—”
Her father upset his chair, he whirled so fast. “Cass!” There was delight in his face, even as tears ran down his cheeks. When his arms closed around her a little too tight to be comfortable, she laughed wetly, tears pricking at her own eyes. “I missed you, dad.”
He chuckled, that rare laugh that she had delighted in teasing out of him when she was a little girl, rumbling through where he held her pressed close to his chest. “I knew you couldn’t stay away, not from this.”
She shook her head, pushing back lightly to give herself enough room to look into his face. “Dad—”
“Rapunzel will be delighted to see you, honey.” he beamed.
“I’m not here to be seen, dad.” Cass said.
“But—”
She raked a lock of hair out of her eyes. “When have things ever gone smoothly for those two, dad?” she retorted. “I’m only here to make sure nothing interferes with Rapunzel’s big day, oh, and the pretty boy’s too.” She laughed softly. “I’m just here to see that they get their moment without anything going wrong.”
“Honey, you know the princess has missed you every single day. She’d want to know you were here.”
Cassandra shook her head again. "Maybe I'm not ready to be seen. I'm weak, dad, and she could so easily convince me to stay."
He sighed and released her. "Is it bad that I want her to? I miss you, honey. You know Rapunzel does. So does Eugene, even if he won't admit it."
She punched him playfully in the arm. "You've softened! I didn't think you ever would."
He scoffed. "Hardly softened. Only person I'm harder on is myself. He's learning, but he doesn't have my level of experience."
"What are you doing now? I mean you hadn't said anything about finding another position before I left."
"I'm the guard coordinator now. I schedule patrols and plan where they patrol. Not quite as glamorous as Captain, but—" he chuckled, ruffling her hair. "It's good, Cass. I promise. And he still consults with me for my experience, so—"
"But are you happy, dad?" Cassandra asked. "You took so much pride in being the captain."
"I am, sweetheart. I can still protect Corona this way.  And you know there is only one thing that would make me happier."
"Dad—" she sighed, blowing a lock of hair out of her eyes. "Let me find my own destiny for a bit. Whether it's here or out there somewhere, I still have to figure out. But I promise I'll come back, even if it's only for visits."
He sagged a little. “I— I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like you didn’t belong here. I kept you out of the guard out of my own selfishness. I didn’t want to see you hurt, because our first duty as guards is to protect others, even if it means putting ourselves in harm’s way.”
She blew air out her nose in a scoff. “I know, dad. And maybe I was bitter about it then, but I like to think I’ve grown a bit.”
He measured a space above her head with his hand. “Maybe just a teeny bit.”
Cassandra elbowed him. “Not again with the short jokes!” But she was smiling.
He laughed. “You set yourself up for that one, sweetheart.” Still smiling at her, he settled himself back into his chair. “Tell me what you need.”
“Where’s the ceremony being held?”
“The Grand Chapel. You know King Frederic would accept nothing less.”
“Urgh, that makes it harder. Too many entrances and far too many places for trouble to hide.”
He shot her a reproving look. “Trust me on knowing where to station people. I’ve got guards on every entrance and regular sweeps through the chapel up until the ceremony.”
“And you know if someone is determined enough, that’s not going to stop them." Cassandra leaned against the wall. "Here's your measure. Could Eugene; in his bad old days as Flynn Rider, break in? If the answer is yes, or any variation of probably, possibly, or even maybe, you need to tighten security."
Her father blew a long breath out, his eyes full of fondness. "Only you, Cass. Only you could think along those lines. Will doubling the guard be enough? Or should I institute more patrols too?"
"Some of both, dad. Put more guards on the obvious entrances, and more patrols and guards inside, covering the less-obvious ones. Hey, didn't Fitzherbert say something about promoting Varian to a royal alchemist before I left?"
Her father nodded. “Royal Engineer is the princess’s chosen title. He has a lab built out of the old secret chamber under the Vault. He's probably there right now..." His voice lilted a little on the end, making it almost a question.
"Stop trying to make me see people who'll go out of their way to convince me to stay, dad. Have him make up some of his old pest traps, portable ones that the guards can all carry and set one each on several of the most likely entrance points. Give him a blueprint of the chapel and he'll outdo himself with traps."
"Cassandra, you do realize there will be guests at the wedding?" He reminded her with no little humor in his voice. "I dare say some of them will wander about before the ceremony itself."
She smirked back. "Think they'll try to cause an incident because their shoes were glued to the floor? I'd look to anyone who does as a prime suspect." She muffled a snort of laughter into one glove. "I know Raps invited the pub thugs. Those guys would take it as a challenge if they got caught in one of the kid's traps."
He stood and ruffled her hair. "Sweetie, I sometimes forget how ruthless you can be." Reaching into a drawer of his desk, he pulled out a plan of the Grand Chapel and unrolled it over the top of the desk. "I have men stationed here, here, here and—"
Cass joined him at the table, leaning her shoulder into his as she traced lines and moved markers to stand for guards. It felt familiar and like home. She pushed the thought aside in favor of the plans. She had a job to do, after all.

what have you thought of " be very afraid" varian feelings in this episode and lance solo and cassandra inner conflits toward rapunzel?
---
This is gonna be a long one, y’all brace yourselves:
So. Varian. I think I’ve made it pretty clear where I stand with this kid, I frickin’ love him. I was so afraid S3 was just going to go ahead and write this kid off, but I’m loving the development we’ve gotten so far!
We already knew in S1 that he adored Rapunzel, Cass, and Eugene. He did pretty much whatever they asked without much complaint, he kept his promise to Rapunzel even when it put his village in danger, he told Cass it was okay that she didn’t help even though she promised, and he is literally Eugene’s biggest fan.
They were his best friends, he just wasn’t theirs. But he wanted to be, and that’s why we saw him trying so hard all the time. And as soon as he felt like that effort wasn’t being reciprocated, he lashed out, which is what happened in Queen for a Day (not to mention he was grieving his encased father and his destroyed village, etc).
Varian’s betrayal did what it was supposed to do: give us a sympathetic bad guy. And he was really good, well-written bad guy. But he is also just a kid who wants his best friends back, which is where Be Very Afraid comes in.
And ooooOOOOOOOH BOY did I love this episode! He is genuinely terrified of losing his father again, and he’s afraid of the people of Corona because he knows what he did. He’s not trying to play down what he did at all, he’s owning up to it, and even says he doesn’t blame the people of Corona for hating him.
It’s a very mature response from Varian. He knows what he did, and how it affected people. He doesn’t try and make excuses for it, he just tells it how it is: he did a lot of really bad things.
But he’s actively trying to be better.
And that nightmare is such a realistic response to what he went through, I’m glad they touched on the trauma that caused him. Stuff like that doesn’t just... go away, you know? When everyone’s biggest fears starting being revealed, I was curious to see where they might go with Varian because so far we had seemed some pretty kid-friendly funny fears. A cowlick for Eugene, Mrs. Crowley for the lady-in-waiting, and I just wasn’t expecting them to go so... dark with Varian’s. (Or Rapunzel’s for that matter)
Dude, I don’t wanna imagine seeing a parent being encased in amber ever. And I definitely wouldn’t wanna see it everywhere I looked and hear my name being screamed everywhere I went. His reaction to it was appropriate too, convincing himself it’s fine even though he knows it’s not, and then finally breaking down with Rapunzel when she tried to talk to him. And that makes sense because, again, he’s just a kid.
They went deep with Varian in this episode, and I appreciate that. Varian is a complex and interesting character. I can’t wait to see how he progresses from here.
Now Lance? Look, I don’t care who you are, that song was a bop. Despite his brilliant song, I do have one slight issue with his fear. Which is... what was it? Was it clown-spiders or singing in public?
The whole thing just sort of played out like a kid-friendly IT Chapter 2. Clown-spider thing presents you with your biggest fear and is beaten when you make it feel small (that’s literally what happened at the end of the movie).
And then there’s Cassandra. I’m just- I... look, I’m angry, okay? I’m just angry.
So we saw in Beginnings that Cassandra already had her feud with Rapunzel. But in the end she gave up joining that lady because she deemed her friendship with Rapunzel more important, which is awesome character development that they just threw out the window with Cassandra casting their whole relationship aside for the sake of “destiny”.
So which is it writers? Does she value Rapunzel’s friendship over greatness, or is she willing to destroy her relationship for greatness instead? Well, we got our answer in Be Very Afraid.
I thought they were doing a step in the right direction with Cassandra questioning herself. The red rocks, I thought, were for sure going to help Cassandra realize that what she was doing was wrong.
Even though Cassandra has been consistently written as a strong, independent character, she is somehow easily swayed by the words of a ghost kid in a frilly dress. So now she went from being hesitant about killing Rapunzel because that’s her best friend to not really caring  about their friendship at all.
They could sense each other through the rocks, right? To the point that Rapunzel could feel that Cassandra was afraid. So that should have gone both ways, Cassandra should have realized that Rapunzel was also afraid and in no way trying to strip her of her power.
But hey, who cares about the unrelenting terror of your best friend when there’s evil conspiring ghost children that can tell you what to do?
Okay, this was much longer than I though it was gonna be.
TLDR: I love Varian and his development is absolutely astounding, Lance’s song was a bop and he would have survived IT Chapter 2, and the writers are still doin’ my girl Cassandra dirty and I’m mad at their inconsistent-- and all around just bad--writing for her.

The Lost Princess Chapter 66
Warnings: Angst/fluff, I guess. Again, still don’t know
Rating: SFW
Tumblr media
(this gif is so adorable)
Ansem and Xemnas brought your unconscious body over to Master Yen Sid’s where he was able to remove the Negaverse from your body. After some time, you were back to normal and went to go join the others in the Kingdom of Corona. You and the others walked through a picturesque forest. Goofy put his hand up to block the sun.
“It sure is a pretty day,” he said. You and Sora stretched your arms.
“Yeah, the weather is great. It'd be perfect for a picnic,” Sora said.
“Agreed,” you said.
“You doing okay, sis?” Vanitas asked.
“For the last time, Vani. I’m fine. Xemnas was able to catch it before it spreaded.”
“Why do you think we came HERE?” Donald asked.
“Got me, Donald,” Sora said.
“We'll figure it out as we go,” Rumi said.
“Okay,” Donald sighed.
“I'm sure we were brought to this world for SOME good reason, but can't we sweat it later?” Roxy said.
“Fine with me, as long as there's no Heartless and you not going ballistic on shit,” Yui said.
“Hey!” You and the others heard a scream and stopped in your tracks, looking around for the source of it. Then with grunting and a final slide, a man fell down the hill behind them. He groaned, massaging his back, then looked back where he came from, where a troop of Heartless flew down after him. The man got up and scampered away, the satchel on his hip flapping with every step. He ran  towards you and the others with the Heartless on his tail, flailing his arms wildly.
“Make way! Make way! Make way!” he said. Sora, Vanitas, Donald and Goofy parted so he can pass them, then summon their weapons, you and the girls following close behind.
“Heartless!” you said. The man found a rock to hide behind, catching his breath and peering out at the group.
“You see? Soon as you mention 'em, they show up!” Yui said.
“There goes our picnic,” Goofy said.
“I didn't do it!” Roxy said.
“Sure you didn’t,” Vanitas said.
“S'okay. Let's send these guys packing,” Sora said.
“Say, since you three seem to know what you're doing, mind if I leave this one to you?” the guy said.
“Yup. We'll take care of them. Go on, skedaddle!” you said.
“You have my thanks.” The dashing man gave off a sigh. “The horse was enough. Don't need any monsters on my trail.”
“The WHAT was enough?” Roxy cackled.
“Roxy!” Yui scolded.
“Oh, nothing, nothing. Name's Flynn. Flynn Rider,” the man said. He then pointed at a Heartless. “Ohh! Watch out, they look mad!”
Roxy and Yui turned back to the task at hand and Flynn started creeping away.
“Slowly... Slowly... Outta here!” he said. He dashed away as fast as he can while you and the others took out the multitude of Heartless. After the fight, you all saw no sign of Flynn Rider.
“Huh? Where the hell did Flynn go?” Vanitas asked.
“He skedaddled,” Donald said.
“I think I saw him go thataway,” Goofy said. He pointed toward a spot between the trees that veered into a small clearing with rocky hills on each side.
“Huh? But ‘thataway’ is...just a dead end,” Sora said.
“Yeah. That's puzzling,” Rumi said.
“Well, did he?” Roxy asked. Goofy crossed his arms, thinking.
“I say we investigate,” you said. You and the others searched the area for Flynn and approached the rocky hillside ahead.
“He couldn't have come this way,” Yui said. Sora saw no exit nearby and turned to face you and the others, his back to a patch of leafy vines.
“Well, at least he got away safe. Right?” he said. He tried to lean against the vines, but stumbled right through them. Goofy turned at the rustling sound, but Sora had disappeared.
“Hey! Now Sora's gone, too!” he said. He walked over to the vines and heard Sora's voice through them.
“This way, guys! It's a secret passage!” Sora said. Sora stood up as you and the others pulled the vines apart to find a small hollow in the mountain. You all ran through the cave until emerging into a small valley with a lone tower standing in its center. Made mostly of brick, the tower had vines running along its side indicating it must have been there for years. Behind the tower, a waterfall ran over the mountainside into a small pond that glistened in the sunlight.
“Look at that. A tower! Let's check it out!” you said. As you all neared the base of the tower, you all saw Flynn climbing down the stones on the outside with a pair of arrows.
“It's so soft!” she said. Several dandelion seeds flew into the wind before her and she stood. “I'm free... I'm really free!”
She started running, not even noticing you and the others as she passed you all. You and the others ran over to Flynn as he reached the bottom of the tower.
“Flynn, good to see you in one piece!” Sora said.
“Guys! You're here, and just in time,” Flynn said. Rapunzel stepped into the pond, laughing as she stepped over the small stones lining the bottom.
“Uh... Who's she?” Vanitas asked.
“Uh, that would be Rapunzel,” Flynn said. Rapunzel took a handful of water and splashed it upwards with a shout of glee and loud laughter.
“Something tells me this could be her first time outdoors. Give her a few minutes to get used to it,” Flynn said.
“First time EVER?” you asked, wide eyed. The sun beat down on her golden hair as she took in her decision. She grabbed her face.
“I can't believe I did this!” She said happily. She grabbed her face.
“I can't believe I did this,” she said shocked. She then spun around.
“I can't believe I DID this!” she said, excitedly. She gasped.
“Mother would be so furious if she knew I disobeyed her and left the tower...” she said worriedly. She sat on a rock holding a flower.
“But that's okay--I mean, what she doesn't know won't kill her... Right?” she said, being carefree. She cried in the hollow cave
“Oh my gosh. This would kill her,” she said, sadly. She ran through the grass, kicking up leaves. Donald laughed while Flynn rolled his eyes.
“This is so fuuuuuun!” she shouted. She leaned her head against a tree.
“I am a horrible daughter. I'm going back,” she said, devastated. She did cartwheels through the flowers, wrapping herself in her hair.
“I am never going back!” she said, exuberantly. She laid face down on the ground.
“I am a despicable human being,” she said in grief. She swung around a large tree by her hair where you, Flynn, Vanitas, and Sora waited for her to even out.
“Best. Day. Ever!” she said, exhilarated. She sobbed into her hands at the base of the tree. Flynn walked over to her, with you and the others following.
“I notice you seem a little at war with yourself here,” Flynn said.
“A little MORE than a little,” Vanitas said.
“More like a lot,” Roxy said.
“Yeah...” Rumi said. Rapunzel stopped crying and turns to see you and the others. She gasped and held out the frying pan towards you all.
“Stop right there! Who are you?” she said. Flynn steps in-between.
“I told you before: my sidekicks,” he said.
“Sidekicks?! Oh, hell no! If anything you’re the sidekick here!” Roxy said.
“Roxy! Sorry about my sister here. She doesn’t know when to shut up,” Yui said.
“Anyways. May I introduce, ehh...” Flynn said.
“Oh, uh... My name's Sora.”
“Donald!”
“I’m (Y/N).”
“Hi, my name’s Rumi.”
“Vanitas.”
I’m Yui and you’ve met my twin sister Roxy.”
“And I'm Goofy. Pleasure, ma'am.” A chameleon appeared from under Rapunzel’s hair, skeptical of them.
“Sora, Donald, (Y/N), Rumi, Vanitas, Yui, Roxy, and...Goofy,” she said. She lowered the frying pan. “It's...nice to meet you, too. I'm Rapunzel.”
“Yep. My sidekicks,” Flynn said. Sora grabbed Flynn's arm and spun him around.
“Since when is THAT?” Sora whispered.
“Look, she really wants to see the lantern show tomorrow night. Now, I'm a nice guy, so I've decided to help her. Only problem is those monsters might show up again. I can get her to the Kingdom--but you guys are clearly more cut out for combat,” Flynn whispered back.
“That's cause we're heroes!” Donald said.
“Uh-huh!”
“And we're Heartless experts,” Goofy said.
“Yeah, yeah!”
“And Negaverse destroyers!” you said.
“Totally!” You all posed together and Sora gave a small laugh.
“Just leave it to us!” he said.
“Done,” Flynn said. He motioned to Rapunzel and lead her forward.
“Rapunzel is interesting...” Rumi said. You and the others walked behind them as Rapunzel admired her surroundings.
“Yeah, her heart's pulling her all kinda ways,” Goofy said.
“The outside world must seem so big and scary. I know how she feels. Lucky for me you guys came along at just the right time--and the rest has been unforgettable,” you said.
“I know how she feels too,” Sora said.
“Awww...” Donald said. You realized that you were getting sentimental.
“Yep, unforgettable...just like your face!” you said as you pointed to Vanitas’s face.
“Oh yeah?!” Vanitas asked. You laughs as Vanitas bursted out in anger. You ran to catch up to Rapunzel and Flynn, putting your hands behind your head. Goofy and the others chuckled as Vanitas seethed.
“C'mon, now,” Sora said. He and the others ran up to you and Vanitas followed.
“All for one, and one for all,” you said. Soon, you all reached a patch of wildflowers and something caught Rapunzel's attention.
“Oh, look. What is that? It's so fluffy!” she said. She ran up to the ball of fluff and inspected it, her fingers grazing the surface. Into the air sprouted multiple tufts of fluff that, when they reached the ground, burst into Puffball Heartless. The Chief Puff itself pulled out of the ground and stared at her with its glowing yellow eyes, scaring her.
“Heartless!” Sora said. You and the others run ahead of her and summon your weapons and guardians.
“Rapunzel, take cover!” Vanitas said. She ran back to Flynn, throwing her arms around him and using him as a shield. At first he was surprised, but smirked soon after, seeing an out.
“All right, I hate to say it, but I'm lettin' you outta this deal,” he said. She loosened her grip on him.
“What?” she asked.
“It's way too scary out here. Let's just turn around and take you home.” He tried to get her to walk back, but she whirled around and punched him in the chest
“No. I am seeing those lanterns,” she said. Rapunzel bravely gathered her hair in her arms and ran back to you, Sora and company.
“Oh, come on!” Flynn said.
“Rapunzel?” Yui asked.
“It's okay. I'm not afraid to face them,” Rapunzel said. You all engaged the plant-like Heartless and took them down. Meanwhile, back at the tower, Mother Gothel had returned to find Rapunzel missing. She scrambled through the house in desperation.
“Rapunzel?” she asked. She ran into her room.
“Rapunzel!” She frantically teared down the curtain covering the window, but found no one there.
“Missing someone?” Mother Gothel whirled around.
“Who’s there?” she asked. Stepping out from a portal was a man in a black coat with long rose-colored hair. The abrupt entrance caused the frightened woman to drop the poster as Marluxia stepped closer. (or mar-ploof-a as i like to call him)
“She's such a precious gift. Allow me to assist you in getting her back,” he said. Mother Gothel's eyes slowly turned pink. As You, Vanitas Sora, Donald, Rumi, the twins, Goofy, Rapunzel and Flynn continued their trek to the Kingdom, they find a large field of...
“Dandelions!” Rapunzel said. She ran ahead into the patch of flowers. “Look! Watch.”
She knelt down and blew on a few of them, sending their seeds into the air.
“Oh yeah, I thought that might work. But I wish there was a way to make more fly at once,” she said.
“Rumi,” Roxy smiled. Rumi smiled back and summoned Nyx. Nyx let out a roar and wafted the large patch of them into the air. The floated past Rapunzel's wide-eyed stare.
“They're just like the floating lights,” she said.

You and the others left the lake and continued through the forest, Rapunzel's long hair trailing behind her as you all came upon a strange plant stuck in the ground in a clearing alone.
“Okay. That's suspicious,” Flynn said.
“Rapunzel...” Sora said.
“Don't worry. I know to be careful around flowers now,” Rapunzel winked.
“Whatever it is, it's not normal. I'll take a look,” you said.
“Um, no you’re not,” Vanitas said.
“Vani, I told you I’m fine!” After a few minutes of debating, you walked closer to the plant.
“Watch it,” Donald said. You approached the odd vegetation and examined it while everyone waited with bated breath. After seeing no imminent threat from the flower, you turned to the group.
“All clear!” you said. They sighed with relief, but too late, as the flower's petals opened, folding downward as its form changed to that of a creature holding a scythe with a familiar symbol on its face.
“(Y/N)!” Vanitas said, alarmed. He pointed behind you, who turned just in time as the pink and white creature swung its immense scythe at you along with a few Negaverses. You dodged away and summoned Odile with gritted teeth, joined by Sora and the others.
“These guys?” Sora asked. More of them appeared.
“They're Nobodies!” Goofy said.
“Now, I feel what Uncle Ansem feels!” Roxy said.
“Mother said the outside world would be full of ruffians and thugs,” Rapunzel said.
“Those aren't ruffians. Those are...uhh, I dunno...” Donald said.
“They’re more like puppets,” Yui said.
“Rapunzel, Flynn, stay back!” Sora said.
“No. I want to help you fight,” Rapunzel said.
“I know. But I'm afraid you can't hurt these guys with a frying pan. Trust me on this. Flynn, could you explain?” you said.
“No problem. Knowing when to flee is one of my specialties,” Flynn said. He rushed to Rapunzel. “C'mon, Rapunzel. Gotta go.”
“But--”
“Look, I wanna stay and slug it out too, but my sidekicks have it covered.”
STOP CALLING US SIDEKICKS!” Roxy yelled.
“All right. Please be careful,” Rapunzel said. They nodded and left you and the others to it. You and the others took out all the Reaper Nobodies and Negaverses and regrouped.
“You know who uses Nobodies...” Rumi said.
“The Organization!” Donald said.
“Yeah. I'm surprised we haven't seen 'em,” Vanitas said.
“I know you're there! Come out, you has-beens!” you called out, causing the twins to giggle. You and the others looked around and a corridor of darkness appeared behind you all.
“‘Has-beens’? Now why would you say that?” a familiar voice asked. A tall man with long pink hair emerged from the portal, peering at them through yellow eyes.
“Because, bossing around Nobodies? That's the old Organization,” you chuckled, the girls giggling behind you. “Why? Are you in the ‘real’ one too? Good for you.”
“My name is Marluxia, and yes, that is correct. How interesting it is to see you again, Sora and (Y/N).”
“‘Again’?” Sora asked. You and Sora looked at Donald and Goofy confused.
“Oh right, we remember,” Yui said.
“A shame you've no memory of me, because I remember you exceedingly well. Although...it's THOSE memories I'd soon erase,” Marluxia said.
“We have no idea what the hell you’re saying,” you said.
“Nor should you. Nor will you ever, for that matter.” You, Rumi, Vanitas, and the trio glanced at him with confused faces while the twins glared at him. “Now, if you'll permit me, I've come to ask a favor.”
“Favor? You have got to be kidding me,” Vanitas said. You and the others nodded in agreement.
“Please hear what I have to say. I'm sure you've noticed...” Marluxia said. He mused on this for a moment and Sora raised his eyebrows for him to continue. “Well, perhaps not. But you should know that maiden with you, Rapunzel, is the very light of this world. I would see you guard her from its dark horrors.”
“Huh?” you all asked, surprised. You all took defensive stances.
“Starting with you, right?” Roxy asked.
“All the Organization seeks is balance. You must understand, our ultimate objective is not to clash with the light. We seek to complement it. Use that Keyblade...to keep Rapunzel safe,” Marluxia said. He vanished in a corridor of darkness.
“Rapunzel’s light...” you said. Goofy scratched his face and Sora looked around.
“Hey. Where did they go?” he said.
“I guess they musta run on ahead,” Goofy said.
“Then we'd better go find them,” Rumi said. You and the others continued through the forest in search of Flynn and Rapunzel. Soon the forest turned into marshland and the fog obscured your view ahead. Still no sign of them, Sora sighed.
“I wonder where they went,” he said.
“Don't worry. They couldn't have gotten too far,” you said. A hooded figure quickly hid behind a tree.
“You just had to stop and talk to our Uncle Marluxia,” Roxy said. Mother Gothel peered at them from beneath her cloak.
“Hey! Blame the has-been, not us,” Sora said. Mother Gothel averted her gaze and began to leave.
“Hellooo? Rapunzel? Flynn?” Vanitas called. She stopped at Rapunzel's name and turned back, lowering her hood.
“Excuse me, good travelers. Do you know Rapunzel?” she said. You and the others turned to her as she walked toward you all and exchanged glances.
“Uh, yeah... Sort of,” Yui said.
“Why?” Donald asked.
“My apologies. I'm Rapunzel's mother. The poor child left home without a word, and I've just been worried sick. Please tell me: where is my dear, sweet girl?”
“We'd tell ya, but we lost her,” Goofy said.
“By accident,” Rumi said.
“We could look together,” Sora said.
“Lost her?” she scoffed. “You're of no use to me.”
She waved you all off and continued walking.
“Bitch,” Roxy muttered.
“She ran away from home?” Donald asked.
“What if Uncle Marluxia was onto something back there?” Yui asked.
“You trust Organization XIII?” Vanitas asked.
“What? No! Of course not. Not after what happened! But...what if?”
“I agree. Why is Rapunzel in danger, and what darkness is after her?” Roxy said.
“Well, guys, the first step is to find her,” Sora said. You and the others searched for Rapunzel and Flynn, eventually exiting the marshland into more bright forest. Soon, you all heard a voice.
“Wh-wh-whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy, boy, easy! Settle down. Whoa, whoa!” Rapunzel said.
“That voice!” you said.
“It's Rapunzel!” Rumi said.
~Le Time Skip~
After meeting Maximus and regrouping, you and the others had arrived at the kingdom. You and the others crossed the bridge and entered the castle town, Rapunzel giggling to herself all the way. (i wished they added the scene where flynn and maximus fought each other over a poster)
“Rapunzel sure looks happy,” Vanitas said.
“She does,” you said.
“Well, her dream's gonna come true. They're sendin' the lanterns up after dark,” Goofy said.
“Cool! We don't wanna miss that!” Sora said. You and the others entered the Thoroughfare, where Rapunzel had her hair braided and adorned with wildflowers. She spotted a large tiled mural of the king and queen holding their baby daughter. She peered down where a girl was placing a flower at its base. Rapunzel looked up at the baby on the mural, who had green eyes and flowing blonde hair just like her. Music started suddenly, distracting her, and she gleefully began dancing in the street. A crowd of people gathered around and join in and Flynn stood watching her. Sora got an idea and pulled you onto the dance floor.
“Sora, what the hell are you doing?” you asked.
“I’m dancing with you. Come on!” he said. You giggled and danced with Sora. after dancing, you and the others headed towards the docks. As you were watching the lanterns, you remembered how you would watch lanterns with Vanitas on your birthday. You chuckled at the memory.
“What?” Sora asked.
“Before I met you and Riku, Vanitas and I would watch lanterns that came on my birthday, like Rapunzel,” you said.
“Oh, yeah. I remember that,” Vanitas said. You all sensed a disturbance from behind as Reaper Nobodies and Negaverses appeared on the wharf. You all got up and turned around, irked.
“Seriously? You just had to ruin the moment?” you asked, sarcastically.
“I don't think they appreciate the moment, (Y/N),” Yui said.
“Not one bit!” Roxy said.
“It's time for these wet blankets to go!” Sora said. You and the girls summoned your guardians while Sora and the others summoned their weapons. You all took care of the Nobodies and Negaverses plaguing the wharf as Rapunzel waited by the shore with Pascal. Out of the fog over the water emerged a small sailboat.
“Eugene?” she asked. From shore, she saw what looked like Flynn steering the sailboat with the stolen tiara in his hand.
“Eugene!” she said. Unknown to Rapunzel, he was out cold and tied to the mast and helm.
“Oh dear... He's run off with the crown and forgotten you,” Marluxia said as he appeared behind her.
“No. He wouldn't. Who are you?” she said. He didn’t answer and she looked back at the boat, still drifting away.
“Forget Flynn Rider. You know where you belong, and it's not with him. Now...” Marluxia said. He motioned with his hand and two Reaper Nobodies appeared in front of Rapunzel along with two Negaverses. She ran away in fear and Marluxia smiled. She ran toward an opening between two large rocks, trying not to stumble when her braided hair caught on a fallen log. She pulled on it, trying to free it from the branch, when she heard a voice.
“Rapunzel!” Mother Gothel said.
“Mother?” Rapunzel walked back to the shoreline, where the Nobodies and Negaverses had disintegrated and Mother Gothel stood with a tree branch in her arms, out of breath. She perked up at the sight of Rapunzel.
“Oh, my precious girl!” she said.
“Mother...” Rapunzel ran into her mother’s arms.
“Are you all right? Are you hurt?” Mother Gothel asked as she touched Rapunzel’s face.
“M-Mother, how did you--”
“I was so worried about you, dear. So I followed you. And I saw them attack you, and--” Mother Gothel hugged Rapunzel tightly. “Oh my. Let's go. Let's go, before they come to.”
You and the others entered and saw the two leaving.
“Hey, isn't that Rapunzel?” Sora asked. He cupped his hands to his face.
“Wait! Rapunz--” he shouted. Marluxia appeared in front of you all.
“Show some decorum,” he said.
“You again!” Donald said.
“Uncle Marluxia!” the twins and Rumi said.
“The girl has found her dear mother. You should let them be,” Marluxia said.
“And why is that?” you asked.
“Because Rapunzel is far too important. Atop her tower, she must remain out of sight, and live out her days with Mother Gothel.”
“And never see anyone again?” Goofy asked.
“But that's like...locking her in some prison!” Sora said.
“That is EXACTLY what it's like. Rapunzel's hair holds the powerful magic of healing. And yes, Mother Gothel wants it for herself. As do others. And, if Mother Gothel's actions will protect Rapunzel, preserve her...then she is doing the Organization a favor.”
“What favor?” Vanitas asked.
“Let's say she's keeping Rapunzel on the shelf for us. An extra pawn in case you fail to find the remaining guardians of light, and we have occasion to call on other hearts of light instead. A New Seven Hearts to fill out the ranks.”
“‘New seven hearts’?” Yui asked.
“Yes. Seven who inherited the princesses' light after their role was fulfilled.”
“So, you don't care about her. You guys just want Rapunzel for your own purposes! Well, you're done here! ODILE!” you said as you summoned Odile while Sora summoned his Keyblade.
“Hmph. I just knew you would go and make a scene. Very well, then it's lights out for you,” Marluxia said. He extended a hand, blowing a pink wind toward you and Sora. He dropped the Keyblade while Odile disappeared, your eyes drooping.
“Sora! (Y/N)!” Vanitas and the others said. They ran towards you and him as your vision got hazy, your ears muffled.
“You two were always such sound sleepers,” Marluxia said as you and Sora fell to the ground.
“What did you do?!” Roxy asked.
“Nothing that would harm Sora.”
“But what about (Y/N)?” Yui growled. Just then, Negaverses surrounded you and the group.
“You son of a bitch...” Vanitas said. The twins growled and stood up. They linked their hands together and raised their other hands in the air.
“SAPPHITE, WE SUMMON YOU!” they yelled. Fire surrounded the twins and their wolves were summoned. Rumi stood up as well and gathered enough wind to summon her guardian.
“COME TO ME, NYX!” she yelled. The wind formed the shape of her bear guardian and Nyx was formed.
“Have fun, girls,” Marluxia said as he disappeared. The twins growled and attacked a Negaverse.
“Vanitas, watch over (Y/N) and Sora. We’ll handle things,” Yui said. Vanitas nodded and ran over to you and Sora. The girls, Donald, and Goofy started attacking the Negaverses and defeated all of them. Meanwhile, a recently escaped Flynn dashed on Maximus over the bridge away from the city. The morning sun brightened the sky as he rode toward the forest, encountering Donald, Rumi, the twins, Vanitas, and Goofy hovering over a still-sleeping you and Sora.
“Whoa, Max! Whoa, boy,” he said. Maximus stopped in front of you and the others.
“Flynn!” Vanitas said.
“Are Sora and (Y/N) okay?” Flynn asked.
“We don't know,” Rumi said.
“We keep callin' their names and shakin' them, but they won't open their eyes,” Goofy said.
“Sora!” Donald said.
“(Y/N)!” Vanitas said.
“Wake up!” Yui said.
“Hmm... Unresponsive sidekick... Wait a minute. I know how to fix this! Max, give them a wash!” Flynn said. Maximus licked you and Sora's face with his long tongue, rousing the two of you from your sleep. You and Sora opened your eyes seeing Flynn and Maximus looking down at the two of you. Donald and the others peeked into view.
“Sora! (Y/N)!” they said as you and Sora sat up.
“Well, that did the trick. Nice work, Max!” Flynn said. Maximus smiled haughtily. Sora stood and held his head while you leaned on Roxy for support.
“Huh? How did we end up...” Sora asked. Suddenly, the events came back to you and Sora.
“Oh no! Flynn, Rapunzel's being held prisoner!” you said. Donald and the others nodded in agreement.
“That's right. In her mother's tower. This calls for a rescue,” Flynn said. He smiled down at Sora and extended a hand. “Are you with me?”
“Yeah!” Sora said. Flynn pulled Sora up onto the horse with a proud cackle. The twins summoned Sapphite and you, Vanitas, and Rumi climbed on while Donald and Goofy climbed on Maximus. Maximus's legs buckled, struggling to hold them up, but his face changed to one of determination. He let out a whinny and stood straight up.
“Let's go, Max,” Flynn said. Maximus reared back and charged forward, Saphhite following close behind. You all raced through the forest in the direction of the tower, when you all were intercepted by a group of Nobodies and Negaverses.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Max!” Flynn said. Sora, Donald and Goofy nodded to each other and jumped off Maximus and Vanitas jumped off Sapphite, summoning their weapons while you and the girls summoned your weapons while still on Sapphite.
“We'll take it from here, Flynn. Go help Rapunzel,” Yui said.
“Thanks!” Flynn said. He took off with Maximus, leaving the Nobodies to you and the others. As you all followed along through the forest, the path was filled with Heartless. You and the others defeated each wave in turn. By the time you all arrived, Flynn had climbed up and entered the tower.
“Rapunzel! I thought I'd never see you again,” he said.
“Rapunzel, really! Enough already! Stop fighting me!” Mother Gothel said. Rapunzel, pulling back, lost her balance and fell over, the gag slipping from her mouth.
“No! I won't stop! For every minute of the rest of my life, I will fight! I will never stop trying to get away from you! But...if you let me save him, I will go with you,” she said. Mother Gothel raised an eyebrow.
“No! No, Rapunzel...” Flynn grunted as he attempted to crawl on the floor but the pain was too great. Pascal looked on helplessly.
“I'll never run... I'll never try to escape. Just let me heal him...and you and I will be together--forever, just like you want. Every- thing will be the way it was. I promise. Just like you want. Just...let me heal him,” Rapunzel said. Mother Gothel released Rapunzel and shackled Flynn.
“In case you get any ideas about following us,” she said to Flynn. Rapunzel rushed to Flynn's side.
“Eu...Eugene!” she said. She brushed the hair out of his eyes and he clutched his side, struggling to sit up against the wall. She checked at his wound, obviously bleeding.
“Oh, I'm so sorry. Everything is gonna be okay, though,” she said as she gathered her hair into her arms.
“No...Rapunzel...” Flynn groaned.
“I promise. You have to trust me.” She placed the hair over his wound.
“No! I can't let you do this.” They stared into each other's eyes.
“And I can't let you die.”
“But if you do this...” Rapunzel touched his face. “...but if you do this, then you will die.”
“Hey. It's gonna be all right,” she whispered. He gave the very smallest of smiles.
“Rapunzel... Wait,” he said. He began to stroke her hair, his face moving closer to hers, and with a swift motion cut off her hair with a shard of the broken mirror. His hand fell to the floor, dropping the glass, as her hair turned brown, its healing ability lost. She looked down at him in shock.
“Eugene, what--” she asked. Absolute terror erupted from Mother Gothel's face.
“No!” she screamed. From the strand in Rapunzel's hands, the once golden locks of hair turned a deep brown. Mother Gothel tried to gather them up in her arms before the magic was lost.
“Oh no. No...” she said. Unable to stop the transformation, she grabbed her hand, watching it become wrinkled and withered.
“What have you done? What have you DONE?!” she asked. She screamed as she fell, aging out of existence, the shroud flying downward through the air as you and the others reached the base of the tower. Marluxia watched from the hill.
“Fallen to darkness... We can't allow her near our pure light now. Her presence would only cast a pall over it,” he said. He motioned with his arm, suspending the cloak in midair surrounded by petals of pink. An orb of darkness burst forth and branch-like limbs erupted from within, followed by a tail. Another set of limbs, and the creature crashed to the ground, the darkness pulling back, revealing a large tree-like Heartless, the Grim Guardianess. It growled down at you and the others, who summon your weapons along with the guardians.
“What happened up there?” Sora asked.
“I don't know, but we have to stop that Heartless,” Donald said. The Grim Guardianess flew toward you and the others, its tail moving like a serpent, as its large mane of leaves crashed to the ground, sending pollen everywhere. Donald and Goofy were sent into a sneezing fit as thorns surrounded you, Vanitas, the twins, Rumi, and Sora. You all struggled to get free of the thorns' grip before the Heartless slithered around the tower, spiraling to the top. You all broke free from the thorny tether as cherries fell from the sky. You and the others raced across the hill avoiding the cages of vines that blocked your way, as the cherry bombs exploded on impact with the ground. Dodging the torrent of bombs, you and Sora reached the tower and ran up its stone exterior. The Heartless was soon no match for you and Sora, his Keyblade and Odile and was knocked from the tower (this took me months to get past). Inside, Rapunzel clutched Flynn.
“Don't go. Stay with me, Eugene,” she said. You and the others ascended the tower, seeing Rapunzel over Flynn's body. She grabbed his arm and placed it against her hair.
“Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine. Make the clock reverse,” she sang through her tears.
“Rapunzel,” Flynn said as he opened his eyes.
“Bring back what once was mine,” she sang. Flynn touched her face.
“Hey. Rapunzel,” he said.
“What?” she asked as she held his hand.
“Rapunzel... You were my new dream.”
“And you were mine.” Flynn blinked once more and his eyes closed, his body falling limp. You and the others looked on sadly as she moved her hand toward his face.
“Heal what has been hurt. Change the Fates' design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine,” she sang. She moved her hand over his heart and leaned in closer, her face nearly touching his, her song nearly a whisper. “What once was mine.”
She sobbed, a tear falling onto the rogue's skin. It settled there, glowing into the shape of a flower. A light burst forth from Flynn's wound, wrestling Rapunzel from her sorrow. You and the others stared open-mouthed at this sight.
“Rapunzel...” he said. She gasped.
“Eugene,” she said.
“Did I ever tell you...I've got a thing for brunettes?” He smiled and Rapunzel was overcome by joy.
“Eugene!” she said. She threw her arms around him and he leaned on his side to embrace her. You and the others smiled with glee and Sora threw his arms around you and Vanitas, grinning from ear to ear and Flynn tightened his hold on Rapunzel. Later, you all stood at the base of the tower, the warm sunlight bathing over you.
“Wow, Rapunzel! You're finally gonna get to see your real home,” you said.
“I know! I mean...I can't believe it. I can finally be with my real family! I couldn't have done it without your help,” Rapunzel said.
“You’re welcome,” Rumi said. Rapunzel giggled.
“Well, from where I'm standing, the Kingdom couldn't ask for a better princess. And I couldn't have asked for better sidekicks!” Flynn said.
“For the last time, we’re not sidekicks!” Roxy said.
“Anyways, thanks for everything.”
“Yes, thank you so much,” Rapunzel said.
“Happily ever after,” Donald said. Sora crossed his arms.
“Mm-hmm,” he said.
“Now, Flynn, you and Maximus play nice,” Goofy said. Maximus and Flynn exchanged glances.
“Huh?” Flynn asked. Maximus whinnied with laughter. “Fine.”
Rapunzel took Flynn's hand and they stared into each other's eyes.
“You're gonna be great,” Yui said.
“Huh?” Flynn and Rapunzel asked.
“We haven't seen the guy controlling the monsters in a while, so that's one less worry,” Vanitas said.
“But there's still a chance that he might be around here somewhere,” you said.
“Well, if he comes back and tries to bother Rapunzel again, then Flynn will keep her safe. And we three won’t be far behind,” Sora said.
“Come on. Rapunzel's the tough one, if you ask me,” Roxy said.
“True. But nevertheless, I won't let her out of my sight,” Flynn said.
“Oh... Eugene,” Rapunzel smiled.
“‘Eugene?’” you and Sora asked.
“Oh! That's my real name. Eugene Fitzherbert. That's right. I never told you guys,” Flynn chuckled.
“That’s different,” Rumi said.
“I think it's a great name!” Goofy said.
“Me too. Nice to re-meet you, Eugene,” you said.
“Hey! I thought I was the only one you were going to tell,” Rapunzel said to Eugene.
“Don't worry. I've saved plenty of Fitzherbert-y secrets just for you.”
“Really?”
“Hey! What are you two lovebirds talking about?” Sora said (he’s so innocent).
“Nothing!” Flynn said.
“Hey, you can tell us!” Donald said.
“Yeah, it's not nice to keep secrets,” Goofy said.
“You know what they mean, right?” Roxy asked Yui.
“Oh yeah,” Yui replied.
“This one is none of your business,” Eugene said. Vanitas chuckled.
“Maximus, get him!” he said.
“Huh?” Maximus glared at Eugene, an inch from his face, and Eugene stopped, unsure of what to anticipate. Pascal crawled onto Rapunzel's shoulder with a determined look and jumped over to Eugene's, sending his long sticky tongue into his ear. Eugene reeled back and clutched his ear, Pascal jumping off with a squeal of glee.
“You have got to be kidding me!” Eugene said. You and the others burst out laughing. Maximus smiled at Eugene, waggling his eyebrows as Pascal chilled on Eugene's head. Soon after, you and the others left the Kingdom of Corona.

By the end of the day you and Peter have become inseparable. It amazed you how quickly you two have bonded. You reminded yourself that you didn’t have a true reason to hate him in the first place other than your own jealousy. But once you put that aside, Peter was actually a good kid and a better friend.
You two were lost in a video game in the living room, having no idea that Nat was watching from nearby.
Nat smirked at the sight, seeing you two playfully shove each other trying to mess the other up.
“No!” Peter cried out when he died. “God damn it y/n! That doesn’t count! You cheated!”
You giggled and laughed. “You never said we couldn’t play dirty.” you shrugged.
Peter glared over at you. “You suck.”
“Aww is Peter a sore loser?” you teased.
“So they seem to get along.” Tony said, approaching Nat.
She looked over at him, smiling. “Yeah. I knew they would.”
“You worried?” Tony asked.
“Not in the slightest.” Nat replied. “If anything I hope they end up together.”
Tony raised a brow. “Oh?”
She nodded. “I know she doesn’t have many friends but if they become something more…” She shrugged, smiling.
Tony just rolled his eyes.
You and Peter lost track of time, getting obsessed over trying to beat the other in the video game. Your stomach was growling loud enough for Peter to hear.
“Hungry?” he chuckled.
“How long were we playing for?”
“No idea..but it was daylight when we started.”
You looked outside to see it was pitch black, only the bright moon lit up the room.
“Wanna grab a bite to eat?” he asked.
You blinked at him, blushing, glad in that moment it was too dark for him to see. “You mean like...outside?”
“Yeah. There’s a great sandwich place I know of nearby.”
“Should we be out this late?”
Peter scoffed. “Please, I’m Spider-Man. We’ll be fine.”
You rolled your eyes. “Okay, Spider-Man, what place did you have in mind?”
“Delmar’s.” he said simply with a shrug.
“Alright, fine.”
You went along with Peter though inside, you felt guilt eating away at you. You never snuck out before but then again you never had a friend before. Surely your mother wouldn’t be too upset as long as you two came back in a timely manner and that no one got hurt.
“So! What does it feel like to be out of the tower, Rapunzel?” Peter grinned as he walked backwards ahead of you.
Your eyes narrowed at the nickname. “That’s not a very accurate nickname ya know.”
Peter chuckled. “I like it anyways. Besides you have pretty long hair and you wear it in a braid.”
You rolled your eyes. “Kinda creepy out here.” you admitted, looking around.
“Don’t worry, y/n, we’ll be fine. C’mon. Delmar’s is just a couple blocks away.” He took your hand and pulled you in a faster pace. You played along, almost skipping behind him, laughing. Yeah it was late but you put that thought aside and decided to have some fun. Like they say, better to regret than not to do anything at all, right?
You looked all around the city before you. It was dark but also full of light? Once you got used to it, wasn’t that scary and you felt more at ease with Peter’s hand in yours. It was a little chilly but you didn’t care as you enjoyed the cool air on your skin.
“You’re taking us to a gas station?” you asked dully, seeing the Delmar sign across the street.
“Don’t judge. It’s so good. C’mon!” You both ran across the street, not waiting for the light considering it was dead, not a single moving car in sight.
“Hey, Peter!” an older greeted from behind the counter.
“Mr. Delmar!” Peter beamed. “This is my new friend y/n!”
The man seemed rather friendly but you had your guard up. He was a complete stranger. “Hello.” you greeted with a little wave.
Wow that was cute, Peter thought to himself, smiling.
“Why you here so late, Pete? Isn’t it a school night?”
Peter shrugged. “We were getting hungry and I thought y/n and I could have the best sandwiches in Queens.”
The man muttered something in Spanish, rolling his eyes. Peter spoke back in Spanish also which caught you off guard. You had no idea he could speak another language.
“Trying to sweet talk me, eh Parker?” he grinned. “What will it be?”
Peter looked up at the menu when you noticed something warm brush against your leg. You looked down to see a furry cat rubbing itself on you. “Aw, hello.” You bent down, never really getting to pet one before. “So soft.” you giggled.
“Hey, Murph likes you.” Peter chuckled, petting it as well. The kitty purred into his hand and went back to you. He perched on your knees, making you sit down on the floor.
Peter ordered for you both, you not really caring about food anymore as you got lost in the soft fur of the cat. Murph rubbed his face against your cheek, making you giggle.
“Looks like you have some competition there, eh Parker?” Mr. Delmart teased as he handed him your sandwiches.
“Funny, Mr. Delmart, real funny.” Peter replied as he handed him the money.
“Must be a good person.” Mr. Delmar spoke up so you could hear, giving Peter his change.
You looked up. “Huh?”
“Murph doesn’t like many people but those he does have a good heart. Like Parker here.”
Peter shrugged. He handed you your sandwich. “Try it. It’s good.”
You got up, gently setting Murph back down to take your food. You pulled the wrapper back, inspecting it before taking a bit. Your eyes widened as you hummed. “Damn, that’s good.”
“Told you!” Peter chuckled.
You and Peter stayed at the shop to eat the rest of your sandwiches, Murph still at your feet, meowing for attention. When you finished, you picked him back up, the kitty purring.
“You better come back now ya here?” Mr. Delmar asked you.
“I will, promise.” you smiled, kissing Murph on his head.
“It’s getting late, we should get back.” Peter said. “We’ll be back again soon, Murph okay?” He gave Murph a good head scratch.
“Bye, Murph, I’ll be back soon!” you told him.
The cat meowed sadly from the counter where you put him as you and Peter left, saying goodbye to Mr. Delmar.
“That was so good.” you said, happy that your stomach is full.
“Told you. Who knew Murph would like you so much.” Peter said.
“Guess I’m a good person, right?” you smirked.
“Right.” Peter nodded. “Let’s get going before anyone notices we’re going.”
“Hey, I noticed you didn’t give him my last name.” you said.
“Oh, well he doesn’t know I’m Spider-Man so if he knew you were a Banner, he might figure it out.”
“Oh, okay yeah that makes sense.” It never occured to you having to keep your identity a secret. The world knew about the Avengers but you, not so much.
“Just gotta keep your last name on the down low.” Peter explained.
“Banner is a common one though isn’t?” you smirked.
“I’m serious. I don’t think your parents want the world to find out about you.”
“Oh, Peter being serious. Watch out, everyone.” you mocked.
“Funny.” Peter laughed.
“I haven’t known you for very long, Pete, but if there’s anything I do know, is that you don’t have a serious bone in your body.”
“Nuh-uh, take that back.” Peter pouted.
You paused, about to look both ways but thought why bother because there weren’t any cars around. You walked into the street, your hands in your hoodie’s pocket.
“Take it back, y/n. I can be serious.” Peter demanded.
You stopped walking half way in the crosswalk, turning to face Peter. “Okay, I’m sorry. You can be serious. Sometimes.”
“Thank you.” Peter said.
His eyes widened, his hairs standing up on end. His spidey senses were going crazy but he couldn’t see any threat. “Y/n maybe we should-Y/n look out!”
A speeding car came out of nowhere. Peter heard the squealing tires before you did. You were in the middle of the street, completely vulnerable. Peter was too stunned to do anything. He was caught off guard. All he could do was watch in fear from the side lines as the speeding car swerved right into you.
It happened so fast. You didn’t even scream. One moment you were looking at Peter, the next getting a face full metal as the car slammed into your waist, your head slamming on the hood. Your body flung back, your head slamming on the concrete. Your ears were ringing, vaguely hearing tires squealing and Peter screaming your name. His frantic voice sounded so far away. That was the last thing you heard before your blacked out.
***
You gasped awake, the memories coming back like a tidal wave. The urge to throw up became too much to bear. You leaned over, puking in a trashcan.
“Y/n! Take it easy!”
You looked up to see Peter, his hoodie stained with ketchup. No wait. Not ketchup. Blood. Your blood.
“P-Pete?” you asked, feeling groggy.
“Yeah, y/n, it’s me. Lay back down, please. You’ll bleed again if you move too much.” He gently laid you back on what you realized was a hospital bed. Your eyes looked around, recognizing the medical bay of the tower. He handed you some kleenex to wipe your mouth clean and a glass of water which you took graciously. You didn’t even realize you were thirsty till he hovered it, the scratchy dryness of your throat becoming unbearable.
“Again? W-what happened?”
“The-the other night...when we went to Delmar’s…you remember that don’t you?”
You nodded. “But the rest is fuzzy…” You tried to remember what happened after you left the shop together but it hurt to think about. Kinda reminded you of white noise.
“A car...it was speeding and it hit you…”
“A car?”
He nodded, sniffing. “Yeah. You lost a lot of blood…”
You focused on the stains of his hoodie. “So...that’s not ketchup.” you decided.
Peter chuckled, wiping his nose. “N-no. It’s not ketchup.”
“Am...I...okay?” You have never been in an accident before so the state of your wellbeing was a mystery.
“Not sure...your dad has to run some tests but...you lost a lot of blood…”
You sighed. “Guess I’m stuck here then…”
“I’m sorry.” Peter apologized. “This is all my fault.”
“Peter, it’s not your fault. It was an accident.”
“No, we snuck out. It was my idea. If I haven’t brought you to Delmar’s…” His head fell as he leaned on your bed.
“Peter…”
“Speaking of which...you’re grounded.” Your father’s voice spoke up as he came in wearing a lab coat, holding a clipboard and pen, a stethoscope around his neck.
“G-grounded?” you asked.
“For a week. Your mother’s orders. Sorry, honey.”
Your head fell back, rolling your eyes. “Great.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Banner, it’s all my fault.” Peter apologized again.
“Peter, it’s fine. She’s alive, that’s all that matters.”
Uh-oh. You thought. It was anything but fine. You knew your father better than almost anyone. He was angry with Peter. Course. Why wouldn’t he? .
“Am I gonna be okay, Daddy?” you asked, a little more innocent than you normally would have.
Bruce caught on and smirked. “Think you’ll be fine, sweetheart. Just need to take it easy. You lost over a pint of blood so you will need a blood transfusion but other than that, you’ll be okay.” He gently squeezed your forearm. “I promise.”
You smiled at your father, believing his words.
“Don’t think I didn’t notice the Daddy card.” Bruce smirked.
You just giggled, feeling like a little girl again.
“I’ll just leave you two alone.” Peter said, feeling awkward.
“Don’t go too far though okay?” you asked.
“I won’t.” Peter promised.
You watched Peter leave you and your father be.
“I don’t want you angry at him, Dad.” you said, knowing very well he was.
“Too late.” he said as he went on with checking your vitals.
“Dad, please. It wasn’t his fault, it was an accident.”
“Y/n you’re my daughter, how am I supposed to feel?”
You sighed, not really having an answer.
“How’s Mom?” you asked.
“A little distraught but she’s okay. She said you were grounded not me. So what does that tell you?”
“You think she’ll murder Peter?” you asked, truly concerned.
Bruce shook his head. “No, but that doesn’t mean she may not kick his ass later.”
“I’m sorry, Daddy...I didn’t wanna go out but...Peter asked and...well I never had a friend before…I couldn’t say no.”
“It’s okay, sweetheart.” He gently cupped your cheek, and your eyes closed, feeling the warmth of his skin.
“I’ll try to get you ungrounded okay? Not like you could go anywhere right now anyways.” He shrugged.
You chuckled at that. “You said I might need a blood transfusion?”
Bruce nodded. “We have to find a match though it won’t be easy. You have a rare blood type.”
“I do?”
“I have everyone’s on file and no one matches so...we’ll see.”
“What about Peter?”
Your father froze, thinking. “Maybe...he’s new so I don’t have him on file yet...I’ll do a blood test okay, sweetheart? Don’t worry.” He got up from his stool to peck your forehead, the top part of your head wrapped in gauze.
You felt helpless, wanting to go after your father but you were forced to stay in bed as he left.
“Peter, wait.” Bruce called.
Peter stopped, turning to face him. “You’re gonna Hulk Smash me are you?”
Bruce chuckled. “Uh, no. I’m not angry at you. But I think there’s a way you can help.”
“I’ll do anything.” Peter said, his eyes lit up with hope.
“Y/n needs a blood transfusion but no one here has the same time...but there’s a chance you might…”
Peter nodded. “How soon can we start?”
Bruce smiled.
***
Bruce thought it’d be best to test Peter’s blood separately from you in case it didn’t work out. The last thing he wanted to do was to get your hopes up and crush them.
“Let’s do a blood test in my lab,” Bruce said.
Peter looked back at the medbay where you were cooped up. “Shouldn’t we tell y/n?”
“I thought so too but I think it’s best if we wait till the results.”
Peter sighed. “Yeah. Guess you’re right.”
***
Natasha was too angry at you earlier when she heard the news. But now her heart was filled with guilt for grounding you over something you had no control over. She listened to her motherly instincts and made some hot food for you as she went up to visit you. At the corner of her eye, she saw Bruce and Peter disappear down the hall.
“Hey, honey, you okay?” Your mother stopped by with some soup. “Thought you’d be hungry.”
“Thanks, Mom. And I’m okay...sore..but...okay.”
“Where’s your father?” she asked, looking around.
“I don’t know...probably burying Peter’s body.” you joked.
Nat rolled her eyes. “Think I saw them heading towards his lab. Who knows what they’re up to.”
“Dad told me that you grounded me…” you grumbled.
Your mother sighed. “When he told me what happened...yeah. I was angry but...I take it back.”
You stared at your mother. She was the most stubborn out the three of you so it shocked you to see her like this.
“I realized that...it wasn’t your fault. Even though you did sneak out.” Your mother gave you a scolding look but when she saw the guilt on your face, hers softened.
“I’m sorry, Mom…” you apologized.
“It’s okay, Honey.” Nat gently sat next to you, holding your hand. “You’re alive and you have all your fingers and toes.” She pecked your forehead as you laughed but you winced, worrying her.
“Sorry, just hurt a little.” you explained.
“Mind if we come in?” Steve’s head popped in between the doors.
“Course, Steve.” Nat smiled.
He came in with a vase of flowers followed by the rest of the Avengers. Bucky was last, carrying a big teddy bear. Steve stared at him. “You really had to buy that thing?”
“If it will make her feel better, Steve, then, yes, I had to.”
“Can he be an avenger instead of Bucky?” Sam asked, pointing at the bear. Bucky glared at him, Wanda and Nat laughing at Sam’s joke.
“How are you feeling, y/n?” Bucky asked, ignoring Sam’s remark.
You smiled at everyone. “I’m okay guys, but thanks. I have a feeling that Peter will steal that from me, eventually.” you said, referring to the bear.
“Oh shit you’re right.” Bucky said.
“Language.” Steve scolded.
Bucky rolled his eyes. He went over to set the large stuffed bear in the corner.
“I got your favorite,” Steve said, handing you the vase of flowers that were filled with lilies.
“Thank you, Steve. They’re beautiful!” You sniffed their sweet scent and he sat the vase on the table next to you to enjoy.
“Where’s Peter?” Wanda asked. “Is he okay?”
“He’s fine and he’s with Bruce.” Nat explained.
“We’re all just glad that you’re okay, y/n.” Steve gently gripped your hand. “You’re one of us.”
A true smile grew on your face. You had your doubts about being part of the team but if Steve Rogers says you are an Avenger, you believed it.
