I think it would be really really good and agnsty to have Jack Harkness x Sam Beckett as a super tragic QPR romance over eons of time.
Sam's a sex-repulsed, romantic ace and Jack is Queer As Fuck and is just as into romance as he is sex so he's perfectly fine with that, (all his jokes aside, the perfect Jack Harkness would be someone who is super sex positive and that means respecting everyone and their wishes so he'd never hit on anyone who he was making uncomfortable and would be just as happy in a sexless relationship as he would be in a casual physical one)
so please just imagine for me Jack Harkness and Sam Beckett as two fleeting ships always passing in the night for eternity because Jack is truly immortal and Sam is and always will be Leaping forever into the past and the future.
Once he loses Al, Jack is the only person who will ever truly know Sam Beckett for who he is under the million faces he wears.
Like. Jack could just be walking down the road and a stranger would just stop him and stare into his eyes and Jack would just immediately catch the barest telepathic pattern, see an impossible flash of green behind blue/brown/hazel eyes and just immediately know it's Sam again, here and now and needing help, either just a friendly face or help with a Leap.
Sometimes Jack will be up all night on the phone with a stranger across the world who opened the call with "Hey Jack, it's Sam." , Just talking, catching up, talking about their lives and everything that has changed , until Sam finally has to hang up and Jack puts down the phone, only to immediately get yet another call from another Sam in another place who has had years and lives pass between who he was during the other call that ended five seconds previously.
Jack's come across Sam not only on earth, but out there, amongst the stars, in the distant past and the far flung future. They never know when they will find each other next but they cherish the time they have together as kindred spirits.
Sometimes Sam calls Jack's number but it's too soon for Jack to be there so a strange man picks up the phone and demands to know where he got the number-- Sam always hangs up very quick when that happens. It's so hard to keep track of dates...
and sometimes Sam calls Jack's number only to hear that the number is disconnected, and read a news article about the 2011 bombing of Cardiff.
Sometimes Sam Leaps in to find that he's in the body of someone who is in bed with Jack and one word is all it takes to get everything to stop, immediately, with no hesitation.
(Jack Harkness is the epitome of enthusiastic consent and would stop for literally anyone at any time but especially for Sam who's had a lot of bad experiences leaping in at bad times or being forced into such situations, and they came up with a code word after the first time it happened. Jack has slept with a lot of people over the millennia.)
Jack would immediately disengage, throw a blanket over both of them, and point Sam in the direction of the bathroom to take a hot shower, get dressed, and go out for food or order delivery if Sam doesn't want to be around other people depending on what he experienced in the previous Leap and what his emotional/mental state is.
Occasionally Jack will be in the middle of a mission with his team when one of them will frantically tap him on the shoulder and sign out "Jack it's Sam what is happening" in ASL if others are around to hear and then Jack has to walk Sam through what the mission is, and wonder what happened in the original timeline that Sam was here to fix --
the possibilities haunt him regularly.
If Sam hadn't't been there on that mission, would the earth have been destroyed? Would his team mate have died? Would all of them have died, leaving Jack as the sole survivor once again?
Seeing a teammate get hurt or die was bad enough. It was even worse through when Sam was the one staring back at him from their eyes, knowing this was just one more horrible hurt piled on this man's shoulders on top of a million more already there and a million more to come.
They both have a lot of nightmares, and they're both one of the few people who can understand the fear and hurt that comes with their particular brands of death experiences, knowing the other understands their pain means they can both let down their guard instead of putting on a brave front all the time for the sake of others or for the sake of a mission or a Leap.
So yeah anyways QPR Captain Jack Harkness & Doctor Sam Beckett.

20 Questions for AO3 Writers
I was tagged in this FOREVER ago by @the-frankenman-writes I'm sorry it took me so long to get to!
1. How many works do you have on A03?
89
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
84,067 (my fics are usually pretty short haha)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Quantum Leap (TV 2022) (18)
Dragon Age (Video Games) (17)
Detroit: Become Human (Video Game) (11)
Original Work (10)
Dead by Daylight (Video Game) (10)
The Witcher (TV) (6)
The Sandman (TV 2022) (5)
Doctor Who (5)
Elder Scrolls Online (2)
Critical Role (Web Series) (1)
Torchwood (1)
F.E.A.R. (Video Games) (1)
Mass Effect Trilogy (1)
The Champions (TV 1968) (1)
Baldur's Gate (Video Games) (1)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The Cold and Dark (Detroit: Become Human)
Holy, Holy, Holy (Original)
Her Sweet Kiss (The Witcher)
Just A Scratch (The Witcher)
Less Than Stellar Judgement (The Witcher)
(,,, people really like my Geraltskier whump fics huh XD)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I respond to basically every comment I get, even if all I can usually manage is some variation of "sfkgjhsfkgj thank you!!" because I have no idea how to take praise but I want the commenter to know they mean the world to me
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angiest ending?
Ooooooooof uhhhhh probably the little Detroit: Become Human ficlet I did called I Will Go Down. TW for suicide XD But there are a lot of angsty fics on there so who knows lmao
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics end pretty bittersweet but I think Hope (Doctor Who) is one of my happiest endings <3
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, surprisingly! My fics don't usually have much reach tbf. The only time I got anything close to "hate" was an ableist saying my disabled Dragon Age Inquisition OC is unrealistic to the setting and would likely be "with their clan or dead".
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sometimes! Usually it's abstract (a la Holy, Holy, Holy) or porn with feelings (a la A Tale of Yearning) but I've been known to indulge in a lil PWP on occasion
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Just one! I have an ongoing Torchwood x Quantum Leap crossover 'verse thanks to @chaos-of-the-endless 😂 I also wrote a Baldur's Gate x Dead by Daylight AU recently!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't believe so (please tell me if you ever do!)
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
no but some of my fics were inspired by other people or based on RP I've done in the past
14. What is your all time favorite ship?
Oh don't even XD uhhhhh right now it's Jenn&Ian from Quantum Leap and Geralt/Yennefer/Jaskier from the Witcher but my shipping loves go so far back I could never name an all time favourite
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Family Reunion :( I've been trying to write it for,,,, basically as long as I've been writing but I can never finish it and then years pass and I hate it and think it's cringe and want to start it from scratch, rinse and repeat)
16. What are your writing strengths?
Taking an impulsive headcanon and running with it. I have so many ficlets just because I thought of a headcanon and NEEDED to put it to the page. I also enjoy angst and hurt/comfort, things that expand on already existing angst and make it WORSE :3
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
In fic writing it's definitely description. I tend to get carried away in dialogue and forget to Say Other Stuff but I think I have a good handle on it now. That and smut, I enjoy writing it but I have to be either In The Mood or shut off my brain so I don't cringe so hard I delete it all bc I struggle with explicit content and get embarassed when things I'm writing are at all Kinky bc I have a crippling fear of judgement
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language for a fic?
As a reader I enjoy it! As a writer, just be careful, stick to one or two words rather than full dialogue if you don't have the time or energy to deep-google that shit
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who <3
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
this changes daily but at the moment I'm loving Something More and the rest of my Sandman fics revolving around the dream OC I made for it. I'm in love with them and I enjoy writing their dynamic with the Endless siblings too <3
Tagging: anyone who wants to do this <3

Tumblr keeps eating my prompts so I now have a sideblog dedicated to my Quantum Leap writing prompts!
Still have to pick out an icon and background, but I'll be reblogging all my prompts over here, if you manage to find any of my other prompts before I do please feel free to tag this blog in the notes !
My main is @walks-the-ages and Tumblr has eaten a majority of my QL prompt text posts :/ a few I had written in Google docs so I still have them there but probably 90% of my prompts have vanished.
In particular I'm searching for my little ramble about Jack Harkness x Sam Beckett for the Torchwood crossover, the 13th Horror Prompt of Sam leaping into a young girl who is going to die in 48 hours, and the Lethe House Prompt where Sam Leaps into a mysterious, empty house with no exit and no visible reflection when he looks out the windows into the endless rain

Thoughts on classic science fiction TV shows?
I'm into more of the modern space classics like the Battlestar Galactica remake, Star Trek from TNG onward and the Stargate franchise. But basically anything made from the 90s on works for me Quantum Leap was a big one for me too, as were X-Files and Firefly. Never got into stuff like B5 and Farscape tho. I'm not opposed to dystopian settings (was big into The 100 for a while and watched The Expanse from beginning to end) but I prefer utopias with a twist/hidden underbelly like Dollhouse, AUs like Fringe (god I LOVED that show) and fun action adventure romps like Killjoys. I never got into the classic classics like Star Trek TOS, Outer Limits, Lost in Space, Twilight Zone and Dr Who (though I adored Torchwood), something about the style of that era doesn't work for me with the sci fi genre. I also prefer my sci fi heavy on the futurism, gadgetry, extraterrestrial encounters and moral quandries (so like...Black Mirror is peak for me) and less so on the horror/thriller aspects (also Black Mirror somehow but I love it beyond reason).

Tiptoeing through the “Raising the Dead” guest cast.
Frank Military as David Kessler Before he was electrocuting Sam, drilling Deeks’s teeth, blowing up the team in Mexico and coming up with the band of streaming serial killers (still an open storyline), Frank Military was a working actor.  He had guest roles in Miami Vice, C.A.T. Squad, Superboy, The X-Files, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, CSI and Windfall.  Appeared in a few feature films as well.
I checked out the AV Club review of “3”, The X-Files episode with Military.  They were not a fan but it is a retro review (it wasn’t as good as Buffy – well, Buffy wasn’t on in 1994).  Their look at Military’s character John:
“The trio of vampires that Mulder tracks down aren't exactly Anne Rice heavy, but they are pretty tedious. The only one we get to know at all, John, looks like he just got thrown out of a Creed concert. During interrogation he spouts the usual religious rhetoric, and in one of the ep's few cool moments, Mulder doesn't buy it–believing John's faking his condition, Mulder has him put in a cell with a high window. The sun rises, and John burns. Later on he comes back, which is about the only interesting thing he manages to accomplish, even if it a little vague.”
The Creed concert line has some real truth to it.
Izabella Miko as Michelle Boucher Played Raja in The Cape and Katya in Chicago Fire.  Appeared in episodes of Deadwood, Chaos, Love Bites, Law & Order: SVU, Supernatural, Anger Management, Scorpion, The Mick, Criminal Minds and The Hunters.
Angel Parker as Secret Service Agent Alicia Monroe Was Tasha Davenport in Lab Rats, Shawn Chapman in American Crime Story, Alex Green in The Strain, Heidi Baker in Trial & Error and Catherine Wilder in Runaways.
Guest roles include Angel, Criminal Minds, ER, Eli Stone, The Young and the Restless, The Closer, Castle, Hannah Montana, Days of Our Lives, Soul Man, Sean Saves the World, Gang Related, Rebel, Teachers, Rel, 9-1-1: Lone Star and The Rookie.
Parker in her trailer.
Matt Peters as FBI Agent Michael Rudolph Was in Joel Luschek in Orange is the New Black and appeared in episodes of Weeds, Santiago, Rush Hour and Superstore.
Bojesse Christopher as Deputy Warden Max Fielder Played Billy O’Connell in Picket Fences and Det. Richard Kitting in True Detective.
Guest roles include Married with Children, Ferris Bueller, DEA, Silk Stalkings, Quantum Leap, Beverly Hills 90210 (1994), Unhappily Ever After, Pacific Blue, High Incident, Land’s End, Good vs. Evil, Strange Ones and Deputy.
Christopher provided multiple photos of his time on set with this Instagram post.
Daryl Crittenden as Randy Sinclair Played Chris Bowman in Heroes.  Guest starred in Nip/Tuck, The Young and the Restless, Torchwood, Friends with Benefits, Desperate Housewives, CSI, Franklin & Bash, Black & White, Justified, Days of Our Lives, Hart of Dixie, 2 Broke Girls, Hench, Criminal Minds and Hot in Cleveland.
Critteden also had a few photos with an Instagram post.
Adam George Key as LAPD Officer Harrison Back from “Murder of Crows” last season.  Key co-wrote “Monster” with Frank Military.
Jason Medwin as Prison Guard #1 A rather large fellow, Medwin appeared in episodes of How I Met Your Mother, Torchwood, Scandal, Shameless, Baskets, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Glow, Lethal Weapon, Jane the Virgin, Single Parents, Euphoria and The Kominsky Method.
David Proffitt as Prison Guard #2 Guest roles in General Hospital, Veep and SWAT (2020).
Written: Frank Military wrote/co-wrote "Little Angels", "Deliverance", "Lockup", "The Job", "Greed", "Betrayal", "Crimeleon", "Vengeance", "Out of the Past" Part One, "Rude Awakenings" Part Two, season four’s finale "Descent", season five’s premiere "Ascension", "Allegiance", "Spoils of War", "Black Budget", SEAL Hunter", "Rage", "Unspoken", "Unlocked Mind", "Revenge Deferred", "The Seventh Child", "Crazy Train", "Uncaged", "The Silo", "Monster", "Line in the Sand", season ten opener "To Live and Die in Mexico", "The Patton Project", "Better Angels" and "False Flag" (the season 11 finale), "A Bloody Brilliant Plan" and “Code of Conduct”.

Came across this on Tumblr a few days ago, it amused me for a couple of hours or more, filling it in, while watching QI.
 Fandom Questions
 1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
Star Trek: Voyager, I suppose at least for reading. Started writing with Stargate SG-1.
 2. What is your latest fandom?
I dip in and out of lots of fandoms on and off, the most recent ‘pick up’ is Ballam from Eastenders, I don’t watch soaps, but Robron and Ballam both appear a good bit on my tumblr, so I eventually gave in to checking them out via fic and youtube – thank god for youtube, lol! I still don’t watch soaps, but I watch those storylines!
 3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
Gosh, that’s... actually no that’s really easy. Primeval. For anyone not familiar, it’s a ‘silly little dinosaur show’ produced in the UK. It had 4 short seasons, with a somewhat revolving main cast – although they managed to keep 3 of them through all 4 seasons – but the fandom was/is amazing. I made life long friends through the fandom and even though I don’t write much any more I still read some and still talk with those people.
 4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
I would say no. I can’t say every fandom has always been amazing – ship wars anyone! – but mostly fandom has been a very positive experience in my life.
 5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?
How long have you got... in genuinely no particular order (basically as they came to me) Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek (TNG, DS9, Voy, Ent & Reboot Movies), Marvel, Kingsman, Person of Interest, Due South, Quantum Leap, Firefly, Buffy/Angel verse, Harry Potter, The Sentinel, Torchwood(/Doctor Who), Hawaii Five-0, Shadowhunters, Sherlock, Primeval, Emmerdale (Robron), NCIS, CSI (Vegas, NY & Miami), White Collar, Empire Records, Bull, Diagnosis Murder, MacGyver (the original), 1-800-Missing, CHAOS, Without a Trace, M*A*S*H, Charmed, Queer as Folk (US), Will & Grace, Bring it On, Nash Bridges, Magnificent 7 (TV series), House, Babylon 5 – I think I got them all... a few of those were one time only deals, but a lot of them have more (anywhere from 2-52 (or more still!) ranging from 100 word drabbles, to thousands of words – hey I’ve been writing fic for 21 years... you tend to amass a lot of fandoms...
 6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
Oh geez, here we go, lol! Okay...
 Stargate SG-1: Jack O’Neill/Daniel Jackson
Stargate Atlantis: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Star Trek: Elim Garak/Julian Bashir, Chakotay/Tom Paris, Jonathan Archer/Malcolm Reed, James Kirk/Spock – I don’t particularly have an ‘otp’ in TNG, the couple I’ve written were Picard/Data, I’ve also dabbled reading Data/Gordi)
Marvel: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Kingsman: Harry Hart/Eggsy Unwin
Person of Interest: Harold Finch/John Reese
Due South: Benton Fraser/Ray K
Quantum Leap: Sam/Al
Firefly: Malcolm Reynolds/Simon Tam
Buffy/Angel Verse: Buffy/Giles, Angel/Spike, Xander/Spike, Willow/Tara
Harry Potter: Harry/Draco, Harry/Hermione, Harry/Hermione/Draco
The Sentinel: Jim/Blair
Torchwood: Jack/Ianto
Hawaii Five-O: Steve/Danno
Shadowhunters: Magnus/Alec
Sherlock: Sherlock/John, Mycroft/Lestrade
Primeval: Nick Cutter/Stephen Hart, James Lester/Hilary Becker Emmerdale: Robert Sugden/Aaron Dingle
NCIS: Gibbs/DiNozzo CSI: Nick Stokes/David Hodges, Mac/Danny, Horatio/Speed White Collar: Neal/Peter/Elizabeth
Empire Records: Joe/Lucas
Bull: Benny/Jason
Diagnosis Murder: Steve/Jesse
I’ve left a few out where I don’t have particular OTPs
 7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.
Here we go again... lol!
Stargate SG-1: Jack/Sam, I just... no. I’ve read a few where it’s a background or secondary pairing, but it always makes me wince a bit. I’ve read a few with Sam/Daniel as a secondary pairing that didn’t make me react that way and I’ve read Sam with other characters, but Jack/Sam just is a nope for me.
Stargate Atlantis: McKay/Keller – no, just no. that was horrible. She treated him like... awfully, trying to change him to suit her, just... no.
Marvel: Contentious, but Tony/Pepper, also Peter Parker/Tony Stark. Maybe because I saw the movies before I ever looked at the comics, but meh.
Due South: Benton Fraser/Ray V – again, contentious, but honestly I think Ray V was kind of a shit friend to Fraser.
Firefly: Anything with Jayne. No really, I just can not stand the character. I spent most of the series wanting to punch him in the face and sometimes you get characters you love to hate, but I just hated him.
Buffy/Angel Verse: Buffy/Spike, Willow/Kennedy
Harry Potter: Ron/Hermione, Ron/Harry, Harry/Ginny... basically, Ron and Ginny should just be loveless hermits who live by themselves. Ok, no, that isn’t fair... but as much as Ron was Harry’s first friend, he was selfish and bitter and Ginny/Harry just... never sat right with me. Ron literally says she spent ‘all summer talking about’ Harry, when she’d met him for all of three seconds. She didn’t know him. It always felt like she fell more in love with the *idea* of Harry Potter, than Harry Potter himself.
Sherlock: Sherlock/Molly, he’d eat her for breakfast. Serious, she’d never survive him.
Primeval: Oliver Leek and anyway. Arg. Creepy little dude is creepy and evil.
NCIS: Ziva/DiNozzo – ugh, just no.
Again, I’ve left out ones where I don’t have particular NoTPs
 8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Tumblr, god damned bitches posting gifs of pretty boys falling in love, roped me in!
 9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
I dabble in several fandoms at once... but if we go by ‘most recently picked up’ as ‘current’ we’re talking Ballum, which hey, it’s always fun to have an actual canon pairing be my OTP, that’s rare for me, lol.
 10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Well (so far) I haven’t written any Ballum. (I say so far, because I’m a realist, lol). I rarely read in fandoms and not end up writing in them at some point. Although I have probably dabbled in a few I’ve not written for, but if I read it with any sort of consistency, I mostly end up writing it. I am weak!
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
 11. Who is your current OTP?
Okay, so that list above, just basically go with that. While I do drop in and hour of fandoms and some I certainly read in more than others, I do tend to go back to fandoms... If we were talking about what I’m mostly focused on writing atm... Steve/Tony, Mycroft/Lestrade, Harry/Draco and Robron are ones I’m currently working on most.
 12. Who is your current OT3?
I’m not currently writing anything that’s OT3 with any real focus. I have a couple of Neal/Peter/Elizabeth WiPs that I will at some point finish, but they aren’t a big focus just now. I did recently read a fabulous Neal/Peter/Elizabeth fic that’s been on my tbr list for ages.
 13. Any NoTPs?
Just... see above, lol!
 14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?
Harry Hart/Merlin, those two are Bro’s until the end and I will fight you on this. Also, Eggsy/Roxy! OMG they are such a BroTP! And Tony/Pepper/Rhodey – I may no like Tony/Pepper as a pairing, but I love them as best friends and of course, our Rhodes, because again, I will fight you on this, they are awesome and Tony needs his best friends!
 15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?
I’m not sure there is. I suppose I’ve read a few fics for some random pairings over the years, but nothing that’s made me really ship-ship them. I like Clint Barton/Bucky Barnes, after seeing it as a secondary pairing in a Steve/Tony fic, but I’ve seen that pop up a few times since, so maybe it won’t stay obscure for long!
 16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
Jack/Sam, Tony/Pepper, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Buffy/Spike – they all seem to be het pairings, oops. But I am mostly a slash fic reader/writer, so I suppose that’s not too surprising.
 17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?
Jack/Daniel from Stargate SG-1. I still love them. I still read them, although it has been a while since I’ve written them on their own (I have got some SG-1/SGA x-overs where they feature)
 18. What ship have you written the most about?
I’m genuinely not sure... without going and counting (and I’m not going any counting!) I’d guess Jack/Daniel, McKay/Sheppard, Jack/Ianto and Steve/Danno.
 19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?
No, not that I can think off. I either like it or not. I do occasionally feel bad for not reading a fic if it’s an author I really like, but I don’t read that fandom or pairing, but nothing specific.
 20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?
Robron and Ballum, lol. I do not do soaps!
  Author Questions
 21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
Stargate SG-1, Jack/Daniel, a story called The Dare, The Disaster, The Almost Happy Ending, And The Very Happy Ending – it was awful. Don’t go looking, lol!
 22. Is there anything you regret writing?
Don’t we all? No, I wouldn’t specifically say so. There are certainly fics, especially older ones, I wish I could have written better, but nothing I’d go, ugh I should never have done that.
 23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Uh... honestly that’s really hard. I... um... yeah, I don’t know, really. I wrote a nice little flower one in POI that I felt worked rather beautifully. The Language of Flowers. An I wrote an SGA fic for NaNo a few years ago, called A Different Life, but it’s not online, because I didn’t finish it yet and I knew I wasn’t going to finish it any time soon, so I didn’t feel it was fair to leave it up unfinished (there is a reason I don’t read WiP fics and I don’t post them either, because I know how much I hate unfinished WiPs) Edit: After writing this I reminded myself of a POI fic I wrote called Hours of Separation – It’s a Harold/John break up story that I always intended to write a sequel too where I ‘fixed’ them, but I just couldn’t do it. I broke them a little too well. But I really love it actually.
 24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
The afore mentioned A Different Life needs to be edited and finished, lol! Also a Primeval fic with the working title Crypt Keeper (don’t ask) that I worked myself into a bit of a corner on and I figure out how to fix it, but I haven’t done it yet, so it’s still needs fixing and finishing, lol!
 25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
I haven’t the foggiest.
 26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
Sometimes, really easily, a quote, a line from the fic, a song title... other times it’s like pulling teeth, hence working titles on things like ‘crypt keeper’ which is a reference to one scene near the very start and has no actual hint of the plot, lol!
 27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Oh the titles. Summaries you can just copy a few lines from the fic if you are desperate, if you had to post ‘untitled mcshep fic #67’ people would get cranky, lol, hell I’d get cranky!
 28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Oh... I... huh. I mean who wouldn’t love fanart for their stories? Any of them honestly! But if I had to choose just one... I guess something in my Animal Instinct verse, which is Primeval (although I always intended to write other fandoms in the verse) where some people transform into animals, based on their ‘spirit animal’ and some art of the characters with their spirit animal form would be awesome.
 29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
Sometimes, look if you’ve read this far, you know I write in a lot of fandoms, lol. In some fandoms it’s easier than others to find beta readers. Also, sometimes if it’s just something short, I won’t bother. But I do try for my longer fics.
 30. What inspires you to write?
That old adage, if you want to read it, sometimes you just have to write it? Spite? Boredom? Honestly sometimes I just have ideas I have to get out of my brain and it’s write or go mad(der)
 31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
That it inspired them to write something.
 32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
Sometimes, sometimes I find it distracting when writing because I end up singing along and forgetting what I’m writing, lol! I do sometimes get inspiration from songs, I guess mostly from the lyrics, but no particular band or genre – although I listen to a lot of country music!
 33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
Little from column a, little from column b... littler still from column c...
 34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
Around 60k, I think.
 35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I have. Primeval had/has a week drabble challenge, mostly when I’ve written drabbles it’s been for a challenge, with a specific prompt.
 36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
Uh... I mean, my fandoms really span the genres, but I guess sci-fi or crime are probably my favourites.
 37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
Third mostly, I have occasionally written in first person, if it felt like the fic needed it.
 38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
Little from column a, little from column b... it depends on the fandom and the story. Sometimes you just need more characters, mostly they are minor roles, I don’t tend to write much established character/oc fic
 39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Ability to convince myself people will want to read it, lol! No actually to be honest, I love to know people read and like my stuff, but I gave up a long time ago on trying to ‘please’ people with what I write. I write what I want to read.
 40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Focus. The problem with 21 years of fandom history, is well... 21 years of fandom history. A lot of fandoms, a lot of pairings and as I say, I never really ‘leave’ a fandom, I just drop in and out and sometimes that means I’ll write on something consistently for weeks or months and then end up getting distracted by another fandom again and not touch it for weeks or months again. Hence, I don’t post WiP fics, because I know I’m easily distracted and don’t want anyone to suffer my lack of focus but me.
  Fanfiction Questions
 41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
I don’t read WiP fics, so yeah... but 5 I’ve recently read in different fandoms that I’ve really enjoyed
Turns Out, I Have a Rose Garden by betheflame (Steve Rogers/Tony Stark)
Lucky by china_shop (Neal Caffery/Peter Burke/Elizabeth Burke)
Colors by Quesarasara (Sherlock/John)
Betrayal by Blackghost7 (Gibbs/DiNozzo)
Matchmaker (Part 1 of the Marmalade Series) by HastaLux, Mottlemoth (Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade)
 42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:
See now this is hard, because... ahh so many...
FredBassett – Primeval author, her Stephen/Ryan series is epic and brilliant and endless
https://archiveofourown.org/users/fredbassett/pseuds/fredbassett
Keira Marcos – I know other people will have said her, I don’t care. I love all her stuff, across all the fandoms she writes in
http://keiramarcos.com/
theapplepielifestyle – her Steve/Tony is amazing. Hands down some of the best I’ve ever read. I will fight you on this.
https://archiveofourown.org/users/theappleppielifestyle/pseuds/theappleppielifestyle
JillyJames – her Tony DiNozzo is a real life grown up... exactly as he should be considered given he’s a goddamn federal agent!
https://jillyjames.com/
missbecky – I’ve read pretty much all her Steve/Tony and Harry/Eggsy and it’s awesome.
https://archiveofourown.org/users/missbecky
Honestly, I could have listed so many more, but, I’m being good!
 43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
Everyone. The thing is, fandom at it’s best is like crack, the more you get, the more you want. The writing, the gifs, the art... it feeds you and makes you want to make more of it, because more of it needs to exist and if that means you need to do it yourself, so be it!
 44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
ALL OF THEM!
 45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
Oh hell no, not even, I can not. It took me an hour to narrow down 5 authors, I can not narrow down one fanfic!
 46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
I mean, it depends on what they like... probably the Hour of Separation I mentioned above, if they like the fandom/pairing, or my Animal Instinct stuff.
 47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
Archive of our Own. I haven’t touched ff.net in *years* since they started getting super restrictive about what you could post. I do occasionally post stuff to tumblr, but mostly I now post to AO3. I did have my own site and I’ve yet to upload a lot of stuff to AO3 – one of these... months... that will be a project – but it’s amazing. Seriously, having been in fandom 20+ years, going from having to search all over a million different places and now it’s all in one place, where we’re honestly, spoiled and protected. The kids now have no idea how crazy impossible that once seemed.
 48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
Yes, but not as often as I should. I love AO3s kudos button, so I can sort of say ‘hey I enjoyed this’ without having to comment, because I sort of hate leaving comments just going ‘hey I enjoyed this’ because I always feel like I should say more, like, oh I enjoyed this specific thing, which yes is an unnecessary hang-up, but there ya go.
 49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
Of course it’s nice to get comments, kudos, reblogs etc. I’m not as attached to them now as I was when I was younger, because I learned along the way that it was more important that I like what I’m writing than that other people do, but it’s still nice to know that something I’ve created is enjoyed.
 50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
I went looking for Star Trek Voyager stuff online, pics etc, waaaaaaay back when! And I came across fanfiction entirely by accident... and I read some – het stuff mostly, then I started watching Stargate SG-1, went looking for fanfiction for that, but was not on board with Jack/Sam, found Jack/Daniel went ‘huh really? That’s weird’ read it... and yeah... 21 years later... lol!
 51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Ship Wars. No seriously, just don’t. Like, who the actual fuck cares. I like my ship, you like your ship. I don’t care if it’s canon or not. I don’t care if it’s popular or not. I don’t read my NoTPs, but I’d never dream of telling someone else not too. Yes I think they are terrible, bad, no good pairings, but that’s *my* opinion. Don’t try to change my mind and I won’t try to change yours. I avoid them like the actual plague. If someone starts that shit around me, I will shut it right down. You are a dick. Go to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200.

The Hub || Quantum Leap x Torchwood
Fandom: Quantum Leap (2022), Torchwood POV: Ian Wright
multi chapter, check the AO3 Link for more when it arrives
Summary: In which Ian finally visits the Torchwood hub -- and meets a couple of new faces.
It was a cold spring morning in Cardiff when Ian found themself standing in one spot for a very long time.
Well. Standing in one spot wasn’t the most accurate descriptor. Rather, they would approach the paving stone marked in the photo Jack had sent them, hover nearby for a minute, then chicken out and pretend they were staring at a pillar or something equally touristy.
It wasn’t that they didn’t believe there was an invisibility cloak or something around the stone, nor that it was a secret elevator. This was just… new. A whole new place in a whole new country and what if nobody liked them? What if they weren’t actually smart enough to help? What if they didn’t understand a word each other was saying through their accents?
Oh my god, just go in already. Ian could practically hear Jenn chiding them; imagined her shoving them forward like a baby bird out of the nest. If they backed out now they’d never hear the end of it.
Holding their breath and closing their eyes like the perception filter might zap them, Ian stepped into the hidden elevator.
Nothing happened. They waited, braced for impact, but nothing changed. Slowly, they peeked an eye open. They were still there, stood like an absolute dummy in the middle of an empty city square in Wales.
Until they weren’t. With a violent lurch (and a deeply undignified squeak), the ground pulled them down into the depths. Cold coastal air gave way to deep warmth and Ian's eyes widened as they were slowly lowered into the enormous underground base. The moment the elevator stopped and they could catch their breath, their heavy coat was off and slung over their arm to join their laptop bag, and they stepped off of the concrete platform, watching it rise back up with a silent note to figure out how the heck that thing worked later.
“Took you long enough,” Jack’s voice was teasing as he hopped down to greet Ian, swiftly taking their coat and hanging it nearby, “Looked like you were about to quit for a minute.”
Ian felt their cheeks flush, “Wh-uh- you-.. You saw that?”
Jack only beamed in response, shooting them a wink and beckoning them to the main bulk of the hub.
It was clear this place had been under reconstruction for a while now. Every surface was littered with cables and diagrams; old monitors, burnt and destroyed almost beyond recognition, were lined up on the ground while newer flatscreens were half hooked up and balancing vicariously on whatever was nearby.
“Welcome to Torchwood, Doctor Wright!” Jack continued, spinning to grin at them again, “Bit of a fixer upper but we’re working on it.”
“It’s… impressive,” they hummed, gazing up at what looked like an enormous engine or power core of some kind that the hub seemed to be built around. Ian could only imagine the kind of power a machine that size held — it was reminiscent of some of the engines housing the quantum core back in LA.
“Rift manipulator,” Jack hummed, “Housed inside the water tower up above.”
"It helps us monitor and control the space-time rift this hub is built around." Another voice, curt and feminine, startled Ian for a moment -- they were so taken in by their surroundings they had almost missed the two other figures in the room.
The person in question was someone who seemed (though Ian would never assume) to be in her thirties, her slight frame almost completely hidden by the frankly unnecessary trenchcoat she was wearing. She pushed to her feet from where she was crouched by a circuitboard, tossing a bit of.... something aside and turning to regard Ian with piercing green eyes.
"Here's who you'll be working with while you're here," Jack hummed, "This is Sapphire, and that's Oscar."
He gestured to the other figure, blue-eyed and freckled with a small scar on his left cheek, who glanced over with a politely awkward wave.
"About time you arrived," Sapphire hummed, tucking a strand of bright red hair behind her ear and offering Ian a smile, "Oscar has repaired the physical side of things but he's rather out of his depth on the coding and I need a second pair of eyes. I hear there's no-one better. Well," she added before Ian could think to respond, "no human."
"No-.. wait." Ian blinked, her words settling slowly amid the overwhelming amount of data between their ears right now. "Y-you're... not human?"
"I am!" Oscar interjected cheerily, shrugging, "Sort of. Half."
That explained his accent, Ian thought -- hovering somewhere between Irish, Southern American and something they couldn't for the life of them pinpoint. Sapphire's voice appeared British at first listen, but now they were looking for alien discrepencies there was something not quite right about it, almost like she'd learned the accent deliberately.
"I am not," Sapphire clarified, seeming to sense their confusion. "Do you need to sit down?"
Ian blinked again, nodding absently and plopping down into the seat Jack rolled over. Aliens are real. Aliens are real. The team back at Quantum Leap were going to scream when they found out Ian was right the whole time-- except they wouldn't, because Ian couldn't tell them. Damn.
Still, a swell of excitement replaced the overwhelm, Ian’s gaze lifting to their new acquaintances. “This is the best day of my life. Wh-where are you from? Why are you here? Why do you look human, I mean the statistical probability of that is—“
“Slow down,” Sapphire laughed, patient even as Ian felt their cheeks reddening in shame. First contact and they were blowing it already. Still, Sapphire was beaming, her eyes glittering with joy as if their own excitement was contagious. “Unfortunately I can only answer one question at a time.”
“Alright, we can blow their mind while we work,” Jack interjected, winking at them all and earning a groan from both alien acquaintances that told Ian he was fully aware of the double entendre. “Ian’s only here on timeshare so we’re working double time.”
“I can quit whenever I like, you know,” Sapphire huffed, stepping back to her station with a haughty sway.
“You can’t stay away~”

What Do You Call A Double Life When It Doubles? || Quantum Leap x Torchwood
Fandom: Quantum Leap (2022), Torchwood POV: multi, mostly Ian Wright
multi chapter, check the AO3 Link for more when it arrives
Summary: With Torchwood and Quantum Leap rebuilding at the same time, both teams wanted to keep an eye on the other (though Torchwood knew way more about them than they did about Torchwood). Somewhere along the way, Ian found themself wrapped up in it all.
In which @chaos-of-the-endless has me writing friggin crossover fic now XD
The partnership started as a way to keep an eye on the Quantum Leap program. Humans developing time travel was a fine line to walk between the advancement of their species and the eradication of all life in the universe, and as it was Torchwood’s job to keep an eye on threats of that size, they reached out first.
It worked both ways, or so the American government thought. Torchwood kept an eye on Quantum Leap, the American government kept an eye on Torchwood. Not that they actually got anything out of them and frankly, Torchwood weren’t particularly interested in getting anything back either, beyond updates on the program.
The majority of information was shared back and forth by Jenn and Rhys; scraps of nothing much both ways just to keep each other happy. Occasionally one of the team would drop in on Quantum Leap for a surprise visit. Usually Gwen, in the first year before Jack returned.
It was during one of these visits, pretty early on in the Quantum Leap rebuilding stage, that things got a little dicey.
“What the frig do you mean ‘aliens are real’?”
“Ssh! Keep your bloody voice down!” Gwen stared down the techie in front of her with wide, urgent eyes. It wasn’t at the top of her bucket list to be having this conversation with Ian, but needs must and there was nothing else she could do at this point. “I don’t have time to explain. Just do as I say and don’t draw attention, got it?”
“I-I mean you just pull me into the hall to tell me aliens are real and y-you want me to just-.. just go along with it?” Of course Ian was a rambler. She always got the bloody ramblers. “It makes statistical sense, obviously, but like-- what kind of aliens? How far did they come--how did they get here? Why are you telling me--”
“Oh for the love of-.. Look. I’ll answer all of your questions after we deal with the incredibly imminent threat to your program, okay?”
That shut them up. “...imminent threat?”
“Take this,” she told them, handing them a small earpiece, “Act natural. I’ll tell you what to look for.”
What followed was a slow-yet-stressful battle between Ian’s genius and an alien virus looking to hijack the Quantum Accelerator in order to take over the development of technology through human history. Ian wasn’t entirely convinced they weren’t just fighting some bored genius kid messing with them (heck, they would’ve done it as a bored teen), but when the three foot tall cyborg tentacle creature itself tried to kill them, they were a little more convinced.
“So,” Gwen sighed, clicking the safety back on her handgun and gingerly stepping over the thing’s corpse. “I might have lied. Sorry.”
“L-..” Ian forced their gaze away from the alien creature just... laying there bleeding purple. “Lied?”
“About telling you everything. We’ve actually got a policy -- I’ve got to wipe your memory now.”
“Erase-..” Ian blinked, their vision blurring. “Did you-.. my coffee-..”
Gwen nodded, an apologetic smile touching her lips as Ian finally lost consciousness. By the time they awoke, with no memory of the day they’d had, Gwen and the alien corpse were long gone.

What Do You Call A Double Life When It Doubles? | Chapter Two
Fandom: Quantum Leap x Torchwood
POV: Ian Wright
Summary: Ian finally meets Jack, and he needs them for something.
((In which I had to split this into another part because the Arc arc is getting away from me as plot bunnies do 😅))
Six months later, it was Jack who made the visit. Things had been quiet since Torchwood’s last drop-in, and Ian had returned to believing they were just a foreign secret ops.
“Doctor Wright.”
That was a new voice. Ian turned to see who was speaking, quirking a brow at the sight of a guy who looked straight out of eighty years ago. The stranger smirked at them, the kind of smirk they’d dragged their female friends away from more than enough times, and reached out a hand to shake. “Captain Jack Harkness. I’m Torchwood.”
“What happened to Gwen?” they wondered, cautiously taking the handshake and frowning at the guy’s smirk. They were sure this suave, flirty act worked on the British people he tried it on, but it wouldn’t fly here.
“She was temporary management,” he hummed, “I’m in charge now.”
“Right.” Ian brushed a strand of box-black self-cut hair out of their eyes and turned back to the code they were working on. “Can I help you?”
“Actually...” Jack leaned over Ian’s desk, a little too close for comfort, and lowered his voice. “I think you can. I’m looking for something and I need you to find it for me. Preferably without drawing attention.”
At least the small talk was over with quickly. Ian chewed at their lip, sensing this was somehow going to be more complicated than it sounded. Scooping up their tablet, they beckoned Jack out into the hall.
“It’s called the Ark of Calenture; an old artefact from…” Jack cut himself off, shooting another smile, “…a ways away. Thing’s been causing havoc but we can’t get a fix on it.”
Ian blinked at the dramatic name, immediately running a search for it and coming up with nothing. "Well search and recovery is more Jenn’s thing,” they told him, “I could get her, if..?”
“I'm sure your girl's lovely, but we have the best search and recovery in the world," he hummed, "Doesn't matter. This thing moves the moment it's detected. We need to find out where it'll be before it gets there."
"You... need a probability calculator." Ian smiled, nodding slowly as realisation dawned. "What even is this thing, anyway?"
"It's complicated," Jack said, "All you need to know is it makes people crazy.”
“Vague, okay.” Ian rolled their eyes, leaning against the wall to start on the code, “From the name I’m guessing delusions; hallucinations?”
Jack nodded, “Everywhere it shows up, people die. Start seeing bodies of water as meadows or sheer cliff drops as bodies of water. Then they wanna jump in.”
“That’s-..” Ian looked up from their tablet for a moment, eyeing Jack over the rim of their glasses. The hell were they getting into? “What is it you do, anyway?”
Jack smirked with the kind of smugness that told Ian they’d get nothing out of him. Rolling their eyes again, they set about getting Ziggy to search for patterns in the data they had: news reports, government documents and any locations Torchwood had already gleaned. It took a while to narrow down, but the Arc seemed to be jumping from city to city in order of its founding date, and by the time Torchwood had discovered it’s current location, Ziggy knew where it would be next.
“Thanks for the help,” was all Jack said, turning to leave.
“Wait!” Frustration bubbled in Ian’s throat. That was all they’d get? Not even half an explanation? “What are you Captain of, anyway?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know~”
With that, he was gone.

What Do You Call A Double Life When It Doubles? || Chapter 4 FINAL
Fandom: Quantum Leap x Torchwood POV: Ian Wright
Summary: Jack makes an offer -- and Ian can't refuse. Literally.
(the last chapter, not the last crossover fic don't y'all worry~)
AO3 Link
Ian was quiet on the journey back to the city. They would be lying if they said they hadn't thought about their-.. attempt since it had happened all those years ago, but since breaking up with Rachel, being 'out' in public, the stress of this new job... It had crossed their mind. Something about being on the precipice of seeing those thoughts come true through no control of their own was enough to shake them silent. Gwen hadn't yelled at them again, at least. She mostly seemed to be worried, anyway.
"You know," Jack hummed about halfway into the awkward silence, "we have rules. Nobody was supposed to know about our little operation."
"Gonna arrest me?" they muttered, numbly staring out of the tinted window.
"We're supposed to wipe your memory, actually," Gwen said, her expression awkwardly apologetic, "...again."
"Again?"
"Doesn't matter," Jack hummed, "Not gonna do that this time."
"This t-- you wiped my memory?" Ian's shock was immediately forgotten, outrage taking over as they leaned to glare at Gwen, "That's what happened last time you visited-- Jenn thought I got drunk without her, what the cuss-"
"Cuss? Really?" Jack interjected, grinning boyishly at the term, "Okay, ignoring how much I wanna squeeze your adorable cheeks right now: it had to be done. The work we do is dangerous, Ian -- just knowing about it puts you in danger."
"So why not do it again?"
"Because I like you, Doctor Wright," Jack said simply, "I'm gonna make you an offer."
"Great," Ian groaned, pinching the bridge of their nose as they immediately saw where this was going. "I'm getting poached."
The laugh that rumbled in Jack's throat was almost fond, glancing up in the rearview mirror to address Gwen. "I like them -- have I mentioned I like them?"
"Few hundred times," she sighed.
"You can keep your job, Ian," Jack hummed, "But I want you part-time. I'll have a talk with Magic, see what we can figure out; if he's anything like Al was I'm sure he'll work with me."
"What would I be doing?" they wondered despite themself, "Because just for the record I suck at fighting, like I took some self-defense but I don't think that'll work against literal aliens. And I'm not great in a crisis. Or long-haul flights. Or-"
"Relax, oh my god," Gwen laughed softly, "You'll be doing tech, don't worry."
"You're rebuilding Quantum Leap -- we're doing the same with Torchwood, and we need a systems op," Jack explained, "All we'd need you to do is programming our base, then a couple trips per year for maintainence and emergencies."
"Oh." They could do that. "What if I say no?"
"Memory go bye-bye."
"Right. Love a nothing choice." There were worse ultimatums, they guessed, returning to staring out of the window as they pulled through half a dozen security checkpoints.
They were still pondering even as they led Jack and Gwen into the building, heading straight for Magic's office. Could they really do this? Coding another supercomputer sounded like fun, but they already had so much to do at Quantum Leap, and the danger-..
Not that they hadn't already been in danger just by association. Twice, apparently. Maybe they'd be safer knowing what to look for; what to expect. They could get Ziggy to run a few algorithms in secret to detect alien activity in advance, maybe run a database of sightings...
"Hey, Jack?"
Jack paused mid-stride, just before Magic's door, and gave them a quizzical smile.
"I'll do it."
Jack and Gwen shared a glance and a smile, the former reaching his hand to take and shake Ian's. "Welcome aboard, Doc."

What Do You Call A Double Life When It Doubles? || Chapter Three
Fandom: Quantum Leap x Torchwood POV: Ian Wright
Summary: Unable to contain their curiosity, Ian follows Jack to where the Arc of Calenture awaits...
AO3 Link
In hindsight, they weren't sure what they were planning on doing here. In their defense, they didn't have a lot of time to think about it. Barely a minute after Jack had left the building, Ian was going after them -- begging Jenn to cover them for a couple hours.
Thing is, they were pretty sure they were getting sick. The closer they came to the location Ziggy had pinned the heavier their breaths felt; a prickle of cold sweat touching their forehead. Their mind turned, for a moment, to the side-effects of the artefact Torchwood was after but they brushed it off. There was no way it could be affecting them this strongly this soon. Probably just something they ate.
When their vision started to blur and the shakes were making it tough for them to coordinate, Ian had to admit defeat and pull over.
Their whole body felt heavy. Taking a couple of deep breaths and trying not to freak out, they scrambled to get out of their car and leaned back against it to let the breeze cool down the burning under their skin. This was ridiculous. No way they were this sick this fast. They were probably just having some kind of panic attack making it worse -- it wouldn't be the first time.
At least the view was good. Ian had lost track of where they were a little way ago, the hot and cold battling in their body too much for them to pay attention anymore, and now they looked around they realised how far they'd come from the city. They could see the sprawling urban jungle in the distance, far over rolling hills of green they didn't recognise, and it was-.. breathtaking. For a moment they forgot about their physical condition, stepping forward to get a closer look.
Then a little closer.
Honestly, they kind of wanted to run down the massive hill they were standing on like a little kid.
They took another step, and the ground lurched beneath them. Firm arms were locked around their waist before they could register what was happening; dragging them backwards and dropping them in the grass just as something small and spherical whizzed past their head.
Gunshots rang out, screaming in their ears as they finally registered who had grabbed them. Jack left them be as the sphere dropped to the ground, throwing his body over it and holding it still as Gwen appeared to smack it in half with a tool Ian didn't recognise.
Immediately, the weight on their chest lifted. The fever subsided as quickly as it had come, and soon only the trembling remained -- but this time, it was because they could finally see what they had been about to step into.
There were no rolling hills. Where Ian had seen the largest peak was actually a sheer drop into the turbulent waters of the North Pacific Ocean.
Ian had been moments from falling to their death.
"Why the bloody hell are you here?" Gwen's voice cut into their daze, sharp and furious; her eyes wild with something between concern and rage. She looked about to continue, and Ian would have taken it. How could they be so stupid? How would Quantum Leap go ahead if they had died here for nothing? God, this was exactly why they were better off at home with their video games and their algorithms, alone, where they couldn't do anything stupid and ruin everything--
"Hey." Jack was knelt in front of them, and they briefly registered the weight of his coat over their shoulders. It smelled like the same cocktail of alcohol, smoke and perfume that the few gay bars they'd been to did. "You okay?"
"I'm sorry," was all they managed, a weak apology from a weak mind.
"No, this is on me," he sighed, resting in the grass beside them. Gwen had wandered off with the remains of the Ark, leaning against the black SUV Ian assumed they'd arrived in. "I shoulda known a mind like yours would get too curious."
"Sorry..." Ian couldn't stop apologising. Couldn't stop shaking. They'd come so close to dying and somewhere they might not have even been found. Stupid.
Jack heaved a sigh. "It's alien. The Ark of Calenture is alien. That's what we do -- we find aliens and alien tech, keep it contained; stop the harmful causing harm and keep the useful to prepare humanity."
That made-.. almost too much sense. "Prepare for what?" they wondered dully, still working on keeping the tears in their eyes where they belonged.
Jack just smiled, "The future."
"Vague."
"Get used to it~"
Ian took yet another deep breath, pulling Jack's coat tighter around them without thinking. "What happened to me?"
"The Arc-.. it was made by a death-worshipping race called the Fartuag. They believe if someone escapes death, they're defying their destiny. Somewhere along the line it got stuck here and there's-.. a lot of people who've had near-death experiences."
Ian swallowed heavily, tears dampening their cheeks before they could stop. Of course that was what this was about. "I should've died-.." they whispered, barely aware they were speaking aloud.
"It's overrated, trust me." Jack heaved a sigh. "Come on. We'll take you back to work."
