The Monk and the Gun Review- This is What Filmmaking Is All About
Bhutan is a small landlocked country between Taiwan and India. They are relatively new to technology and only recently have opened their borders to outsiders. A couple of years ago they had their first submission which resulted in an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature. That film was called Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom. It was a cute little film but now they have another…

Friday Releases for February 9
Friday is the busiest day of the week for new releases, so we've decided to collect them all in one place. Friday Releases for February 9 include Lisa Frankenstein, Out of Darkness, Drop 7, and more.
Lisa Frankenstein
Lisa Frankenstein, the new movie from Zelda Williams, is out today.
A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.
Out of Darkness
Out of Darkness, the new movie from Andrew Cumming, is out today.
A small boat reaches the shores of a raw and desolate landscape. A group of six have struggled across the narrow sea to find a new home. They are starving, desperate, and living 45,000 years ago. First they must find shelter, and they strike out across the tundra wastes towards the distant mountains that promise the abundant caves they need to survive. But when night falls, anticipation turns to fear and doubt as they realize they are not alone. Terrifying sounds suggest something monstrous at large in this landscape, something that could kill or steal them away. As relationships in the group fracture, the determination of one young woman reveals the terrible actions taken to survive.
Cobweb
Cobweb, the new movie from Jee-woon Kim, is out today.
In the 1970s, Director Kim is obsessed by the desire to re-shoot the ending of his completed film ‘Cobweb’, but chaos and turmoil grip the set with interference from the censorship authorities, and the complaints of actors and producers who can’t understand the re-written ending. Will Kim be able to find a way through this chaos to fulfill his artistic ambitions and complete his masterpiece?
Suncoast
Suncoast, the new movie from Laura Chinn, is out today.
Inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager (Nico Parker) who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother (Laura Linney), strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Woody Harrelson) who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.
The Taste of Things
The Taste of Things, the new movie from Anh Hung Tran, is out today.
Set in France in 1889, the film follows the life of Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel) as a chef living with his personal cook and lover Eugénie (Juliette Binoche). They share a long history of gastronomy and love but Eugénie refuses to marry Dodin, so the food lover decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her.
Upgraded
Upgraded, the new movie from Carlson Young, is out today.
Ana (Camila Mendes) is an ambitious intern dreaming of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss Claire (Marisa Tomei). When she’s upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets handsome Will (Archie Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss– a white lie that sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance and opportunity, until her fib threatens to surface.
The Monk and The Gun
The Monk and The Gun, the new movie from Pawo Choyning Dorji, is out today.
The Monk And The Gun captures the wonder and disruption as Bhutan becomes one of the world’s youngest democracies. Known throughout the world for its extraordinary beauty and its emphasis on Gross National Happiness, the remote Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan was the last nation to connect to the internet and television. And if that weren’t enough change, the King announced shortly afterwards that he would cede his power to the people via their vote and a new form of government: Democracy.
An elderly lama (Kelsang Choejey), recognizing that extraordinary change is about to sweep through his country, is troubled by the possible outcomes. He instructs his young disciple Tashi (Tandin Wangchuk) to set forth into the kingdom and bring him two guns before the full moon to “set it right.” The young monk is perplexed by his guru’s request, and his familiarity with guns is based solely on images from the only film available on television: James Bond. His quest brings him into contact with a scheming American gun collector Ron (Harry Einhorn), leading to a most unexpected outcome.
Drop 7
Drop 7, the new album from Little Simz, is out today.

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom review – heart and feet-warming tale of a Bhutan village | Movies
This gentle, sweet-natured movie is the debut feature from Bhutan-born and US-educated film-maker Pawo Choyning Dorji: last year it became the first Bhutanese film to get an Oscar nomination for best international feature (losing out to Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car). Despite these unusual credentials, Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom runs on pretty familiar, even traditional lines, although its…

Doraibu mai kâ/Drive My Car (Hamaguchi Ryûsuke, 2021)
Memoria (Apichatpong Weerasethakul, 2021)
Ouistreham (En un muelle de Normandía) (Emmanuel Carrère, 2021)
Twist à Bamako (Mali Twist; Robert Guédiguian, 2021/2)
Albatros (Albatros) (Xavier Beauvois, 2021)
Lunana:A Yak in the Classroom (Lunana:Un yak en la escuela) (Pawo Choyning Dorji, 2019)
El Rey de todo el Mundo (Carlos Saura, 2021)
Ras vkhedavt, rodesac cas vukurebt? (¿Qué vemos cuando miramos al cielo?) (Aleksandre Koberidze, 2021)
Des hommes (La guerra sin nombre) (Lucas Belvaux, 2020)
