Here’s what ED found in raid at Arpita Mukherjee’s house
The enforcement directorate has raided two properties of Arpita Mukherjee who is believed to be a close aid of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee. In the raid, the ED has obtained a large sum of cash amounting to av along with some gold, dollars and documents. The recoveries are believed to be associated with the teacher hiring scam. The ED has taken Arpita who is an actor and model with a work history in Bengali and Odia film industry, in custody. Reports suggests that she has told the investigators that her flat was being used by Partha Mukherjee as a mini bank. Meanwhile, the Trinamool party has already said they have no connection with the money recovered.
The ED procured ₹21 crore in currency notes, gold worth more than ₹70 lakh, more than ₹50 lakh in dollars and 20 mobile phones from Arpita Mukherjee’s flat in the first rai. Whereas in the second raid they found ₹28 crore and 5kg gold including gold bars.
In previous raids on Partha’s property, the ED has found 13 deeds, some of which are linked to Arpita Mukherjee. At least one deed, comprising 44 pages, dates back to 2012, suggesting that they knew each other well, hard disk, mobile phone, documents relating to appointment (of group D staff in schools) and transfer of posts and admit cards of candidates.
Reports have surfaced that the ED also found cash stashed in the washroom in their second raid but there is no confirmation so far. The ED is interrogating Arpita to get more information about any undeclared assets.
