Our Capitol Reef National Park day, Saturday, June 4, was a bit of an experiential sandwich. It starts right out front of the Thousand Lakes Mountains and ends in Cathedral Valley.
That morning, with the sun fully out, I was able to grab a bunch of photographs of those mountains. In the evening, I didn’t get any of Cathedral Valley (’cause we were racing to Moab by that point).
And inbetween?
Yeah. We went to town on Capitol Reef.
We started with a quick stop at Twin Rocks because, well, Twin Rocks. A quick stop ‘cause I was wondering if I somehow missed the entrance to the park. Which I didn’t.
At some point, you’re just in the park.
And by Twin Rocks... you’re definitely in the park.

After that, we gazed in horror at an actual fault line then made our way to the Goosenecks overlook.
Now the story there is that we drove a gravel road a ways until a parking circle. The couple in the car ahead of us were already up the trail to the lookout point. And by the time we were almost there as well... we kind of lost our way. Oh... we could see the couple ahead of us along the rail on the other side of some rocks. But we couldn’t figure out how they got there.
Eventually, we were above them and called down to them for directions. At which point the woman pointed out we could simply climb down from where we were. Which we did... after a touch of anxiety.

The other story from the park happens after the visitors center and the school house.
We actually had it in our minds that we could hike the mile ‘n back it would take to see Hickman Bridge, a natural rock formation. And, while we did end up walking a mile, we basically walked a half-mile up and a half-mile back.
Yeah. Never made it to Hickman Bridge.
However, we still did see Hickman Bridge because, on our way up, we ran across a couple from Europe who were on their way down from seeing it. And they were kind enough to show us the pictures they took with their cell phones.
So...
Pretty much we hiked to Hickman Bridge...
And saw it anyway.

In the meantime, the Capitol Reef National Park photo album and maps are here.
And my quick take the day after our time in  Capitol Reef National Park is here.
Enjoy!

[Image ID: a staged photograph of a dramatically red-lit black desk, with the Redfall start screen displayed on the monitor. In front of the keyboard is a gory prop eyeball and two vintage keyrings, the latter set atop an open book showing an elegantly posed illustration of the skeletomuscular system from anatomist Andreas Vesalius. Beside them is a bag of loose-leaf tea labeled O-Negative, sitting behind a red vampire skull mug containing red-colored tea, held by a skeletal hand.]
Alright, I'm ready to dig in and harvest swaths of story as Devinder in Redfall! I've set up a tasty splash of O-Negative (with a pinch of hibiscus for color) from Friday Tea, in a splendid mug (that definitely wasn't an Angler) from Tony Furtado!
(Pay no mind to the rest—Miss Whisper just hits all my aesthetics. Cool keys, antlered branches, skinless muscles, and spare eyeball gifts. Who wouldn't swoon?)
Also, I'm a packrat, but I wonder if Redfall will get me to internalize the barter-currency ("support") enough to actually WANT to give NPCs the "supplies" I've found, instead of saving up (and never spending it).
Either way, I'm running face-first into all the safehouse whiteboards to read all their notes! Look at how great the color-coded post-it conversations from the heroes are!

[Image ID: a screenshot of the whiteboard in the Firehouse from Redfall, focused on a set of color-coded post-it notes. Dev's is dark green print, Jacob's is black print, Layla's is reddish print, and Remi's is green cursive. Post-it 1 by Dev: "Aggressive animals? Need more bloody film for camera." Post-it 2 by Jacob: "reviewed Devs footage - that can't be real." Post-it 3 by Layla: "OH HELL NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT." Post-it 4 by Remi: "Also reviewed footage - what was that? Doesn't make [sense.]"]

FORBIDDEN TO REBLOG IN NSFW, 18+ (Porno, Naked/Erotic), AND also not in TRASH BLOGS, racism, politic, guns/wars blogs, thanks.
Alone, a beachcomber heads south on the beach at low tide south of Tolovana Wayside heading toward Silver Point just after dawn. The first large monolith in the mist has an opening though it that one can pass at very low tide. However the surf is just outside the western opening. A great place for an early morning or anytime hike!

"Taking a trip to the ocean" by bachir reddioui on INPRNT
Taking a trip to the ocean
Today, I saw an art exhibit about the ocean. The paintings and sculptures in the exhibit represented the ocean in many different ways, some depicted the ocean as a peaceful place, while others captured its power and majesty. Each piece of artwork reminded me that the ocean is a complex ecosystem that sustains our lives but also has the ability to bring us to our knees. The ocean is a force of nature, and its power to influence our lives is undeniable.
