I think another element of Orym's involvement in this whole plot that is getting misconstrued or otherwise used inappropriately is Liam's statement that Orym can't be objective about this.

It's true that he can't be objective about the person who murdered his husband! I think very few people would be! But that doesn't change the fact that it is in fact completely and yeah, objectively true that the Vanguard murdered his husband because they wanted to get to Keyleth to test if Vax would show up, and so Keyleth's guards obviously tried to prevent an attack on Keyleth, and not only were they killed for defending her, they were killed in a way that specifically prevented resurrection, to no known benefit.

Orym's lack of objectivity doesn't mean he's in the wrong or that he should have to make himself to see the other side of "maybe the people who killed innocent guards as part of their moon experiments have a point." It just means that, for example, even if Abbadina is very pleasantly and calmly saying "oh I don't have any stakes in the moon thing nor do I know this guy who talked over the ley line broadcasting system, I just think he's right about the gods," he's going to leave the house and sleep outside instead of calmly listening. He's not going to be able to make that more general and detached argument about power and murder that Laudna and Ashton can make (also informed by their past experiences, but a little more removed). This is, for him, extremely personal; but he is still correct.

I think a comparable if obviously much less morally/theologically fraught example would be that Laudna, understandably, gets upset when Ashton talks to her about his own experiences with loneliness. It's a great scene, because both characters have experienced pretty profoundly lonely times in their lives.

Would it be appropriate for someone to say "well, Laudna obviously can't be objective here; she's relying too much on her own past experiences to inform her judgment, so we should ignore her"? I think it's pretty obvious that's an absolutely fucking stupid thing to say; but that's what people are saying when they're bringing up Orym's emotional response. People are still allowed to have pretty strong subjective feelings about things that objectively happened.

#critical role spoilers #again: there's a pretty horrifying lack of empathy problem and it's coming from a specific place. #if you argued that imogen is justified because her deadbeat mom's involved and orym isn't justified bc his husband was? let's unpack that. #(again: argument here is that both make points but also objectively orym is correct in saying that otohan kills innocents.) #(god there was also someone saying that the party also kills people and literally brought up bandits) #yes. killing someone who attacks you first is in fact different than running experiments with a 6 person casualty rate #and using the anti-resurrection toxin to boot #like. some people really not beating the living in a pod of goo and only ever having seen carefully selected youtube clips of CR allegation #also not beating the reddit atheist allegations tbh

So. I just listened to MAG 200, finally finishing the fever dream that is The Magnus Archives, and all I have to say is: Holy shit. Just. Good lord.

Look, I knew it was going to be sad. I've been on Pinterest. But Jesus. I was not prepared. Now I'm shaking and will certainly be curling in the fetal position later, sobbing and screaming into the void. I mean, I'm happy for Basira, Melanie & Georgie of course, as well as our beloved Admiral, but God. Jon and Martin, I love you, you deserved so much better, I see why all your fanfics are fix it. But even just thinking about everyone we have lost, all the characters I got emotionally attached to. Sasha. Tim. Daisy. Michael Shelley. Even thinking about all the avatars (I'm a sucker for a villian, what can I say?) makes my lungs spasm with love and want. I shall miss them all for eternity.

And so ends possibly the greatest experience I've ever had with a fandom, at least until I recover enough to start tmagp. Everything about tma is just pure amazingness. Everything. It's funny how much you can grow to love random people just by hearing them voice act a character and laugh in bloopers. I love them so much, the whole cast. The two blooper episodes brought me more joy than I think I have ever experienced with a piece of media, trumping even the mighty Good Omens, which is saying something (To be fair though, Not with that thong on! and Oh god, I'm knackered, I've been doing all this labelling! would make anyone crack up, although perhaps not continue hysterically giggling for over fifty minutes... They still pop into my head sometimes and I'll just randomly snort in really inappropriate situations because I'm gonna buy some 'ead and shoulders, 'cause I found one on the road this mornin'! and Gertrude's been on the sauce, need I say more? Yes? Alright then,if you insist - Happy little DOORBELLS! FifTy MInUteS eArLY! and Fuck you, Jonny. God, he drags the rest of us down. What a wanker! I could go on, but I feel these brackets have already gotten way longer than they have any business being). I love these strangers more than I love anyone else I've actually met before, except my partner. They are everything to me. And I cannot wait to re-listen to all five seasons yet again, definitely screaming and crying and laughing and screaming while I do so. I have never before listened to and experienced something so perfect. Alex and Jonny, you have legitimately changed my life in all the best and worst ways possible, and I hate you and love you for it. You have my utmost gratitude and admiration, also kindly piss off.

Seriously though, the genuine adoration and idolization I hold for all the voice actors is sort of concerning. VA for Simon Fairchild gets a special mention, as well as Michael The Distortion because how is it possible to fall in love with a person after listening to only their voice for thirty seconds-

Who would win in a fight: Keith from cosmic dust or Ranveig’s beast?

Good question!

See. Ranveig's beast has a lot of advantages over Keith. It's bigger. It's tougher. It can move so fast it might as well be teleporting. It also appears to have actual control over its powers, unlike cosmic dust Keith... but that is a skill that he'll eventually learn, with Allura's help. So they're more or less on equal ground in that department.

But Keith's not a pushover either! I don't think it would be any easy fight by any means, but I think Keith might be able to manage a win, if only because he was deliberately designed to absorb quintessence, whereas with Ranveig's beast, it more or less seems like a byproduct.

And of course, Keith has his team backing him up (unless he tries to fight it alone, like an idiot. which is very possible).

idk if im late to the party but i thought it was interesting that 1899 used plato's allegory but never really surfaced passed discussing the shadows vs the fire, only to reveal at the end that they themselves are living the rest of the allegory: theyre running away from the sun that is their reality bc it hurts too much. they prefer the shadows on the wall, the darkness of the cave, bc the light of their reality is too painful for them to accept.

The first page opens while Angelo is taking Sebastian’s blood. Sebastian is sat on an armchair, head bent back and eyes closed, looking uncomfortable. Angelo is kneeling before him, focused and face neutral as he asks “What makes you so sure it’s to do with me?”. We see a close-up of the needle, and Sebastian’s expression as it shifts to a more relaxed one, saying “You make me feel when I’m used to being numb”.

The second on starts with Angelo saying “All done”, and we see Sebastian from above as he puts pressure on the needle wound. The blood sample is secured in a plastic bag, and Sebastian crouches down, passing a hand through his hair. His smile is weary, he says “You know, I have no idea what you think of me.” We see Angelo finishing to put the sample away, face closed as in the background Seb is still talking: “I think you must like me.”

The third page first shows the two character’s faces: Angelo eyes closed and head bent up, frowning as to fight an emotion, and Sebastian, smiling a bit painfully, saying: “because you don’t seem like someone who would bother with a person they didn’t like. But I can’t wrap my head around why-”. Then, we see the entire scene, Sebastian looking between his knees and Angelo looking at him, flexing his hand as he moves towards him. “and you...” Sebastian goes, as Angelo passes by him to sit on the bed facing the armchair. “And I?”, Angelo prompts.

In the last page, we see Sebastian’s eyes as he looks up to Volta with determination. He leans a bit forward, neck twisting to face the other properly. Layer over the two of them sitting face to face are close-ups of their faces, expressions yearning and wistful. “If I came over there right now, and kissed you, would you let me?” Sebastian asks. Lastly, we see Angelo smiling, brows eye on his forehead, an evident tenderness to him when he says “Yes.”
