(Something personal. Something sad.)
(Sorry if it is incoherent. I wrote this when I was very sad.)
Hokkaido always has a special place in my heart.
It is beautiful. It is tranquil. It is cool/cold (that means a lot to me. I hate the hot, but live in a hot climate).
The wonders of Hokkaido cannot be described in how many posts written, so the following are just a few.
I have been to Hokkaido for three times (in summer). Each of the photos above was taken from each trip, in chronological order.
The first one was taken in 2015, in a flower farm in Furano 富良野.
The middle one is my favourite. This was taken in 2017, in a flower farm in Biei 美瑛. I did not know the two people in the photo. I did not interact with them. I just took that photo by chance, and I love it. That tree is apparently famous, by the way.
The third one was taken in 2018, in the same flower farm in Biei. That was the last time I have been to Hokkaido as of now. That was the last time I have traveled overseas as of now.
I have made many memories in Hokkaido, both in smiles and tears. I would even say Hokkaido is a land of miracles. After coming back from Hokkaido, something is going to happen.
2015 was a bad year for me. And then 2016 was the best year in my life.
2017 was an even worse year. And then 2018 was another wonderful year.
2018 was a wonderful year. And then 2019 was the worst year in my life.
A trip to Hokkaido really does change fates.
Especially the second trip. 2017 was such a painful year, yet just a year apart from 2016.
When I am sad, I have the bad habit of looking back at past memories. I remember during those days in 2017, I always looked at old photos, read old journals/diary entries from 2016. Just a year apart, how could things be so different?
During the summer vacation in 2017, I said I wanted to go to Hokkaido again.
I did. And I even cried there. In public. In a foreign land. In the middle of a vacation.
Only I know why I would make such a proposal, revisiting a place we have already been to.
It sounded superstitious. It sounded stupid. Even to me.
But I thought: What if I went to Hokkaido again, and the next year would be another year of miracles?
No way, I just cried there. The trip was very emotional, not so enjoyable. Why would I even think a visit to some foreign place would solve all my problems?
And it did. 2018 was wonderful. Even the latter half of 2017 was wonderful.
It was a second miracle, after the one in 2016. I thought that blue roses only bloom once. But the flower of miracles really does live up to its name.
Yesterday was the worst day in this year. Can’t say it was the worst in my life.
I stayed at home all day. I almost stayed in bed all day, except for eating and taking a shower.
I did not (do not, actually) have motivation to do anything. Not gaming. Not writing. Not reading. I just laid on my bed, occasionally listening to music, and somehow I could fall asleep.
Just like I did a year ago in 2019, three years ago in 2017, I start crying uncontrollably. Until my tears dry, or until I fall asleep. As if time had travelled back to the past.
And just a day ago on Tuesday, I was still happy and carefree. Now I haven’t smiled since yesterday morning.
Life has been pretty bad since the last Hokkaido trip in 2018. I failed at everything. I lost my old friends. I couldn’t do anything constructive. I was always tired. I can’t remember how many hours wasted lying on my bed, or tapping on the computer keyboard aimlessly.
I used to think that all those were for the big finale yesterday. A happy ending for all my sufferings for almost 2 years. I had hope.
Last winter and spring, I forced myself to get up, to push forward. I gave up everything else in my life. I retrieved the long lost passion in 2016, 2018. Just to get a happy ending. Just to get a closure. I don’t care what would happen in the epilogue or the sequel. Just give me a happy ending.
But when a bad ending is given to me, all those hard work suddenly means nothing. What were all those pain and suffering for, then?
The ending is even worse than others predicted.
I am devastated. I am disappointed. Confused. Hopeless. Sore.
I hope it is a dream. I have been having dreams that sound way too real, perhaps this is one of them?
Am I arrogant? Perhaps. But I did work hard. Very hard. People always say arrogance leads to failure. But I don’t see a direct relation with that. Is failure a must for arrogance?
I promised myself not to cry. Be strong, stay strong. I hadn’t cried for at least half a year, I told myself not to cry for this silly reason. But I did. I couldn’t help it.

Funny how just a few weeks ago I wrote about Alistair Boorswan crying himself to sleep. A few weeks later I’m doing it myself.
Yesterday evening, I looked outside the window. I saw the clouds of dark-blue in front of a sky of indigo.
Suddenly, I thought: Can you see the same clouds from the fields of Hokkaido?
...from the city of Sapporo?
...from the town of Asahikawa?
...from the hills of Mountain Tomamu?
...from the hot springs in Noboribetsu?
...from the canal in Otaru?
...from the farm in Kitami?
What if I woke up one day, and I was on the flower fields in Biei?
Under the same old tree. Under the same blue sky.
Everything in these few years was but a dream.
But then, how would I know that after taking a plane from New Chitose Airport, the next year would be the best or the worst year in my life?
I used to think that the flower of miracles is watered by tears.
Whenever I had a bad time in my life, miracles usually followed.
It happened once in 2015-2016. It happened again in 2017-2018.
But how many tears have I shed since the summer vacation in 2018? How much price have I paid since school started in September that year? Were they still not enough for the flower to bloom again?
(It is sunny here these days. The flower beds must be beautiful if they share the same weather over there.)
(I’m not leaving virtually or in real life. I just need a rest for a while. Hope I can recover soon.)

It toggles between three main categories:
Young hot gay suburban dad who all the moms in your neighborhood have a mini crush on
Gay librarian
Your gay hippie aunt who somehow also is wearing business casual
The common denominator is gay.
Grape: if you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
This is a really hard one, but I think I would want to go back to Japan, and really get to set my own itinerary. I’d love to see Fukuoka and Kumamoto, because that’s where my family is from, Kyoto, Sendai and Osaka because the landscapes are beautiful and there’s so much history and I would love to go back to Tokyo, Sapporo, and Otaru.
Tangelo: if you could be any mythical creature, which would you be?
Oooh this is a fun one! I think I would want to be a kitsune. They just seem like they have a really good time being mischievous little shits. And who wouldn’t want to be a funky little fox?
Or a lamia, which is a Basque river/ocean spirit that’s really hot and will help those who give them offerings but also they love tricking men and have duck feet.

[TRANS] ViVi Magazine: NCT 127′s last Tokyo cross-talk & what reward would you give yourself!
Q. What reward/prize do you want to give yourself for finishing the tour?
Doyoung: I would like to receive the reward of meeting my family and having a meal (with them). I want to talk a lot while eating and receive strength from them.
Johnny: Ah, I thought the reward you meant was something like 'funniest-award' (laughs) An answer like Doyoung certainly is better. If I could give myself a reward like that...... I'd like to have a bit more free time. During my free time, I want to eat something delicious or travel. I've poured out everything I have on the tour, and I think I need time to fill it up again.
Jaehyun: Me too, we don't have much (free time) so I would like to take a vacation. I want to travel alone.
Jungwoo: Me too, we've been working hard on the Japan tour, so I want to give myself the 'holiday'-prize
Johnny: How many days?
Jungwoo: Then about three days...... And I want to spend a lot of time seeing my family whom I've not been able to see, have a good time eating something delicious or travel around and enjoy small things.
Yuta: Same for me, I'd like the same vacation (reward). I had so many different things to do during this tour, I figured I'd need some time to get my mind back together and I want to meet my friends whom I've not been able to see. The length (of the vacation) would be, ah..... one week!
Taeil: I want to give myself a car (laughs). I've been wanting one for a while. There's not a specific car I want, but speaking of it, I think a compact car would be better
Taeyong: Then I want a brand bag.
Yuta: Is there a bag you've been looking at? (laughs)
Taeyong: I'm joking joking (laughs) I have a three-year-old nephew. There are clothes I want to buy for my nephew so I want to buy them in Japan and bring them back!
Haechan: Personally, I quickly want to receive the Saitama Arena performance DVD!
Mark: I want to receive the album soon! I think I will be reminded of the tour when I listen to it. And I want to keep it for my personal use
Q. Then besides yourself, what would you give to one other member?
Yuta: I can’t pick! This I can never pick!
Taeyong: Mhm! Can’t pick! Because everyone worked equally hard!
Doyoung: I’d like to give something to Yuta hyung. Since it was a Japanese tour. I think as Yuta hyung is our Japanese member he really thought about a lot of things and did his best. That’s why I’d like to get him whatever he wants. As long as I can get it with my own money, that is (laughs)
Yuta: Whoa, really?! Thank you! I’m so happy!!
Taeil: I can’t pick either, I’d like to give something to all members. A cup of coffee for each♡
Haechan: Then for me it’s Taeil hyung. Taeil hyung has really become a huge source of strength for me, he’s always beside me cheering me on, so I’d like to treat him to a meal!
Jungwoo: What kind?
Haechan: I feel like I’d like whatever Taeil hyung picks, so anything. I’ll just be happy to eat together!
Johnny: Then I’d like to gift Doyoung a bed. There’s not a specific reason for this, I just think he’d be very happy to suddenly receive a bed. It’s just a thought though, so I’m not going to actually give it to him (laughs)
Doyoung: Hahaha (laughs) I’m happy with the thought of it too (laughs)
Jaehyun: Then I’d like to say this to Johnny hyung…… Since during the tour he always kept saying “Can I keep being on stage like this?”, now I want to tell him ‘Yes you can keep being on stage” (laughs)
Johnny: Woaaaah! Thank you~ (laughs)
Jungwoo: I’d like to give something to Mark. He always helps me out, cheers me on and gives me lots of love. So for Mark whos doing his best every time like he never stops trying, I would like to get new glasses since his eyesight is bad. Mark, always thank you!
Mark: Aaaaah! Thank you (laughs) In fact, I would like to give something to Jungwoo too. I was also thinking of Haechan, but he’s a bit cheeky…… Just joking! (laughs) Jungwoo hyung was practicing the most out of us all this time. There was a lot to memorize, some things were being changed, he always went ahead first to practice. When I looked at him I thought it really must’ve been hard. So I’d really like to give him something filled with ‘You worked so hard’. Jungwoo hyung likes food so I’m thinking of taking him out to a meal!
Jungwoo: Thank you. But once you eat food it’s gone. What I’d like more is Mark’s constant attention on me…..
Mark: You’re really overdoing it (laughs)
Haechan: What the hell are these two doing here?!?!
Taeyong: I’m always careful when picking presents. But I haven’t really thought of something to celebrate the end of the tour. So first of all right now I’d like to get everyone a pair of socks.
Yuta: Why socks?!
Taeyong: I want the members’ tired feet to feel comfortable, so I want to get good socks. To rest well~
Yuta: Oh okay. Should I get everyone waistband support then? (laughs)
Q. I’ve asked this several times during the series but… what’s the most memorable place or food in Japan?
Johnny: We ate Okonomiyaki in Osaka and Hiroshima, and I was impressed how the respective Okonomiyaki tasted different from each other!
Yuta: I also really enjoyed the Takoyaki from my hometown Osaka! And the Eel Deopbab in Nagoya was also delicious~ I ate Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima, which were also really good! Ah, since I’m from Osaka I’ll say Hiroshima (laughs)
Taeil: The Eel Deopbab I ate in Nagoya was seriously delicious. At the time I used to eat lunch boxes, and I liked to pack up the soup and eat it~
Doyoung: Eel Jjambap is delicious, even if you add wasabi.
Haechan: I didn’t have it this tour, but the Eel Deopbab also stayed in my memory! Actually, I originally didn’t eat eel. But a long time ago when we went to Nagoya, I asked myself ‘Wouldn’t Eel Deopbab be ok?’ so I tried it and it was really really good! Since then, if there would ever be Eel Deopbab again, I’d definitely eat it.
Doyoung: I also can’t forget the Sushi that I ate in Ishikawa. It was seriously so delicious, I ate until I couldn’t eat any more. Sushi is seriously the best!
Johnny: Which Sushi was the best?
Doyoung: Sea urchin and tuna. The expensive ones! (laughs)
Taeyong: Mine is sweet potato ice cream. I ate it in Osaka. It’s the best~!
Yuta: Ahh~! That’s right, that’s right! I seriously recommend that one. That was also my first time finding out about it (laughs)
Jaehyun: I remember all foods in the various places that we went to, but what really lingered is walking down the streets of Otaru. At the time, I was walking down the street with the snow piled up, when I walked into an orgel shop and bought an orgel. There was a big clock in front of the orgel store, and when the time came, a loud ‘Booo~!’ played, just the moment we left it had started ringing! It was so awesome, I still remember it even now.
Mark: If you say Hokkaido, ramen come to mind. And the ice cream and pancakes I ate at a café in the streets in Otaru!
Jungwoo: I also remember walking down the channel in Otaru really well. Although it snowed at the time, it weirdly wasn’t particularly cold . And I ate two kinds of Sapporo ramen, soy bean paste and soy sauce. They were both really delicious. And also, Nagoya Eel Deopbab~ Ishikawa Sushi~ Hiroshima Okonomiyaki~ I ate all the various representative foods, and they were all really delicious! Ahh, and the eel was delicious too!
Q. Tell us what you’d like to challenge in Japan and what are your future plans!
Doyoung: More than anything as the tour is finished my heart is filled with “This was really fun”, I really want to do more of Japan tour. And I’d like to become an artist that you want to keep seeing over and over.
Taeil: That’s right. And next time I’d like to do even more shows, I want to grow in order to be able to do that.
Johnny: I feel like this too. I want to do more concerts and I want to become an artist that people want to see. And personally, I’d like to learn more Japanese.
Jungwoo: I want to be able to do stages as cool as our company’s DBSK seniors, just like they are a step ahead in Japan, my dream is for us to progress everyday and grow. My wish is also to meet more fans from different regions in the future.
Haechan: This time we had a chance to do shows in halls and arenas, so in the future I want for us to showcase a growing image bit by bit through arena tour and a dome tour! And I’d also like to go to a Japanese convenience store on my own!
Mark: My goals for the stage are the same as the other members, I want our dream to come true quickly! This and I also have a personal goal, I want to learn Japanese quickly. I feel like this every time I come here but if I study Japanese harder I can understand our fans better, we can also convey our minds better, the gap between us will shrink and we’ll get along even better. So now I really want to be good at Japanese quickly.
Jaehyun: Right. There’s also a lot of things I want to do in Japan besides touring, right now I’m thinking of snowboarding. I want to snowboard in places where there’s a lot of snow in Hokkaido, and then I want to go shopping in Tokyo!
Taeyong: I want to buy a house in Japan. I really want to buy it. So everyone, when we become neighbours I’d like you to help me out.
Yuta: A house?! What kind?
Taeyong: I like small houses, the houses in Tsukushima Alley where we went to shoot for Vivi were super pretty! I want to buy a house like these!
Yuta: I want to go to every corner of Japan, regardless if the concert venue is big or small. There’s still a lot of people that don’t know us, so I want to go to various places and let people know even a tiny bit about NCT 127, this is something I think about the most.
