So I've been debating on trying to actually post the stuff I roleplay/write about Ellie on here, but I've been meaning to try and gauge the best way to do so.

He hides under a shell of this version of himself that he wants people to see so they don't get too close because he is so vulnerable. He is angry, depressed and hurt under all of what he shows and I think the first time you really see him shed that facade is when they are on Yondu's ship discussing the plan to stop Ronan. His voice is soft, it's serious, it's raw. He wants to compromise with Quill here, he's wanting to be a team player but he's expressing he's scared and that even if he does care, he doesn't foresee a way to do what is being asked.

No jokes, nothing cruel, no theatrics, not acting tough.

These moments are rare overall, mostly come through when he's at his lowest points but I want to highlight he's a multi faceted character that is more than just an asshole. Other times we've gotten to see Rocket unfiltered is when Groot was about to die "Why are you doing this?!", with Yondu (several moments), talking to Thor in the pod, his moment of silence with Nebula, during their last meeting in vol 3, and the clip of Rocket leading the new Guardians. ///
