Born in 1959, Florence Griffith Joyner's remarkable talent became evident early in her life. Known also as Flo Jo, she began her athletics career in high school, and her natural speed and determination led her to compete in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where she won a silver medal in the 200 meters.
However, it was the 1988 Seoul Olympics where Florence truly made history. She set world records in both the 100 meters (10.49 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.34 seconds) that have yet to be broken. Her iconic style, featuring one-legged bodysuits and colorful, long fingernails, made her a fashion icon as well as a sports legend.
Florence Griffith Joyner's story is a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and self-expression. Her incredible achievements on the track and her unique personal style have left an enduring impact on the world of sports.

fyi how long it takes me to post a m*a*s*h update makes it SEEM like i have a lot of self-control and am only watching one episode a day but that is incorrect. i'm watching everything like three times and rolling around in the details like a ferret let loose in the snow. i grew up in the vhs-recording 90s where you'd get two star treks and an x-file every week, and i'd get up at five in the morning to rewatch one of them before school every day AND tune in for every rerun and that has not changed. sometimes i get comments on fic like "wow your dialogue sounds just like them" YEAH it fuckin SHOULD some weeks i hear these people talk more than my own family. this is completely normal and healthy by the way

Gertrude Ederle, first woman to swim the Channel, 1926, (1935).
Gertrude Caroline Ederle (1905-2003) was an American competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and world record-holder in five events. On August 6, 1926, she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Among other nicknames, the press sometimes called her "Queen of the Waves".
"To me, the sea is like a person, like a child that I've known a long time. It sounds crazy, I know, but when I swim in the sea I talk to it. I never feel alone when I'm out there." - Gertrude Ederle

on a fundamental level people have totally lost the plot as far as the concept of nepo babies goes. like... having rich [otherwise-anonymous] parents who could fund the early days of the starving artist pre-discovery phase of your career, or even pay to kickstart your career entirely, isnt a nepo baby! i saw something on twitter about sports nepo babies and half of them were like "this athlete's parents were middlingly successful in the same sport when they were teenagers/in college and then they went on to become coaches of this sport!" thats not a nepo baby either thats just doing the same shit ur parents do/did which everyone has done for centuries lmao !!!!
