#OC: Haelda

I swear I'm alive! Something I've been working on is redeveloping my older OCs Haelda and co into my Godforged worldbuilding project. So far I've just drawn Acathera and Haelda, but I at least know what I want to do for everyone!

Haelda is a Tenku from a wealthy family. Her father was absent her whole life, breaking up with her mother when he found out she was pregnant and was never seen again. Her mother passed away when Haelda was very young, and she went to live with her aunt, uncle and cousin. Her aunt and uncle always saw her as something of a burden and disliked her for a variety of reasons, which made home life difficult. She is kicked out upon turning 18 despite her cousin's attempts to smooth things over, and forced to find her own way in the world. She's not sure what she wants to do with her life yet, but probably something with animals.

Acathera is a human werecat from the city. Infected when she was a teenager she's honestly pretty chill about the whole thing, she thinks its kinda cool and would shift more often if it wasn't for it being a somewhat painful process. She works at a cafe in the heart of the city, and volunteers at a cat rescue on the side. She has an interest in medicine and nursing but thinks she's too dumb to try it out.

Chigo is a human-deer chimera from a small rural "community". The leaders had a strong obsession with chimeras and were illegally turning infants born in the community into chimeras. The cult was discovered and appropriately dealt with when Chigo was still very young, leaving them in foster care. Chimeric sophonts are very taboo, Chigo luckily passes as a Satyr but despite that had trouble fitting in and struggles with their self-identity. Their foster parents meant well but had a hard time with Chigo's identity and giving them the support they really needed. Chigo started volunteering at the library as a teenager, and pursues it as a career in tertiary education.

Hava is a karura from the same town as Haelda, and briefly even went to the same school as her when they were younger. He aspired to be an athlete and was showing a lot of promise, however an injury took him out of it permanently. He's an optimist though and didn't let that stop his love for sports, coaching kids games and studying sport science.

Jack is an elven shapeshifter who can turn into a dragon. He grew up in a somewhat close-minded town, and while his parents really loved him they had a hard time coming to terms with him being trans + gay, which made his teenage years turbulent to say the least. Developing a shapeshifter form was a way for him to both feel out his identity and deal with dysphoria + dysmorphia, as well as rebel against his parents. He spent nearly all of his time as a teenager in his dragon form, though these days is coming around to his human form again. He's currently in art school.

Midei is a dragonborn from a secluded mountain village that has limited access to modern technology. She eventually moves to the city because she wants to try out this whole "university" thing the youths do and learn to become a teacher. She is incredibly out of touch but sweet and tries her best to fit in, despite feeling like a fish out of water (in more ways than one).

it’s Diabolucorona Rex! or at least a stylized silhouette of them.

the biggest demon hound in my ocs’ universe, they’re the offspring of Reprobius (the devil) and Haz (a demon hound ambassador). they’re big enough to curl around a huge mountain in Haeldas, and can fit a small country on their back. their body is actually longer and more serpentine, but i shortened it so they would fit on the page. they’re lazy and slow but could potentially destroy a whole universe if upset, and even the devil himself is scared of them.

I like yelling about my OCs, so here’s a sort of quick sketch that shows off the size differences of all the characters in Haelda’s main lil group of friends. Haelda is the shortest of them all, or 2nd shortest if Jack is in his humanoid form (which he basically never is because he absolutely despises being the shortest)

Can’t wait to draw these guys having some fun goofs and gags. Some little adventures. Lov them.

Been working on more stuff for Haelda, which includes finally designing her adult look! This is after she finally manages to come home and join her cousin again, eventually becoming and ambassador for their kingdom and visiting other kingdoms on her cousin’s behalf. So she needed to be wearing clothes that help with that!

Plus, she’s older now too, so she needed to look more mature and grown, seeing as she’s just a teen at the start of the story.

With this done I think I might try and work on an actual, full-blown ref image for her. Despite her being my most precious character, she doesn’t actually have a proper ref lmao. I’ve just been using that image in the top left.

I’ve talked about Haelda before Many a Time so here’s some art I was doing. I decided I super love that trope where a character with long hair gets it all cut off at the end of their journey to signify how they’ve changed as a person. So eventually, Haelda does wind up losing most of her hair lol. That sketch at the bottom is also my theoretical design for her outfit once she becomes the ambassador for her kingdom.

Anyway, we stan a disabled ace lesbian who helps her cousin overthrow the corrupt and cruel council before becoming her kingdom’s ambassador and using her knowledge of the world to have many a Wise Discussion.

UGH ok I’ve talked about my OC Haelda here a few times, though it’s been a while. While I’ve been doing a lot with her universe, I haven’t done much with her specifically for a long time for various reasons. I finally decided to revisit her, and figured she could do with some updating. There were some things about her old design I wasn’t keen on, like the impracticality of her skirt or how blank her wings were, plus just how saturated everything was. So she’s been given some lovin’ and a nice sparkling new design!

4, 10, and 17? 👀

📚 OHHH BOYYYY there sure are! I think the biggest one is the whole ordeal re: Stellor the emperor. When he took form the clan was forced to flee shadow into light, where Stellor was weak and dared not follow. They live there happily, but many still feel responsible for his creation, and missions are sent off to both locate him and attempt to control/neutralise him. Thus far none of their techniques have worked. There are other smaller stories that weave and echo through the clan as a whole, I might make some posts talking about those later!

⚓ uhhh. Sorta? I don’t really have any pirates/navy, not atm (once I get a dragon for my OC Haelda that’ll change) so for now the only ones who really count are Mizu and Oria.

Mizu is the water rep! Outside of her council duties she is often seen (or rather not seen) out in the deep ocean beyond the safety of the bay, diving down deep and exploring shipwrecks and reefs for hidden treasures. It’s a dangerous job, as there’s a reason no one travels beyond the shallows of the bay, but Mizu is very confident in her abilities.

Oria is a disgraced war general from ice, who fled after seeing the horrors and tragedy the war was bringing to innocent families. Being a deserter was not met with kindness, and she was cursed to lose the two things she cared about most. Never again could she sing in front of an audience, as all who heard her song would meet a grave fate within the day, and never again could she run freely on soft land, as instead of hind legs she had the tail of a fish. In other words, she’s a siren :P she chills out in the bay and helps protect the waters. Sometimes she follows Mizu on her trips! She hasn’t been on land since the day she washed up at the clan’s beach.

🐉 A trading-based clan full of mismatched individuals who’s main goal is to help those with a damaged past better themselves and become whole again.

drew my current main group of ocs! I’ve had this story, Haeldasverse, for a while and may have posted about it before but here are the four protags.

In short, the story is about the aftermath of a war between two factions of a roughly humanoid species of alien called “daemons”. The war devastated the galaxy, and the losing warlord (his name pre-war is unknown but he was renamed Reprobius after he lost) and army were banished to a scorched planet called Haeldas to live out their exile, while the victorious warlord Porculinus was became the cruel dictator Coronata Porculin. The story is about the misery and trauma suffered by daemons on both sides as they try to retain their hope and dignity under the soul-crushing rule of Porculin, while gradually building a resistance. 

Iurarge is an aging records clerk (who was hobbled and forced to do desk work after having a mental breakdown in Porculin’s military during the war) and when he is first introduced he’s pretty hopeless, but gradually is drawn into the resistance.

Blight (a name given to him after he was banished from the exile colony on Haeldas) is the leader of the resistance against Porculin. He was born into exile and surrounded by a massive lack of morale growing up, but is persistent to a fault and will absolutely never give up trying to find a better life. He is close friends, and sometimes lovers, with Iuri. Only Iuri knows his real name. 

Pip is a former terrorist from Haeldas who was put in a high-security prison and later sort of adopted by Blight and Iuri. She is bombastic, aggressive, and rarely conceals her “true form” (which is like a big 80s-animatronic-esque monster). She is a “patchwork-type” daemon, which is a common disability that causes difficulties creating and retaining a solid body, so she uses the living bodies of humans as a partial shell that covers her torso. She’s just a big scary muppet that wants to fuck stuff up.

Fratermes is the high priest of Porculin’s god-king religion, and also a huge traitor and informant for the resistance. It’s cheerful and polished, but insanely fast and able to freeze an enemy in their tracks with a Medusa-like hypnotic gaze. It is also a patchwork-type, and is highly affected by this; if it is punctured at all, it will quickly bleed out if not patched up. It is usually too fast for this to be an issue, though. Frat is also an “angel”, an ancient ancestor of the modern daemon types. It has a plasma-like halo that allows it to float, while most daemons have horns and subdermal armor instead. I’ll make a separate post sometime about its anatomy, but for now I’ll just mention that it actually sees out of the bottom holes of the mask!
