nettles being one of the very few survivors of the dance is so important because so much about her characterisation makes her "disposable". smallfolk. bastard. orphan. daughter of a whore. the only thing that makes her valuable to these people is her dragon and she uses it to get to safety in the very end. love that for her!

can you do jerma's meat grinder monologue?
Okay, if I... if I chop you up in a meat grinder, and the only thing that comes out, that's left of you, is your eyeball, you'r- you're PROBABLY DEAD! You're probably going to - not you, I'm just sayin', like, if you- if somebody were to, like, push you into a meat grinder, and, like, your- one of your finger bones is still intact, they're not gonna pick it up and go, "Well see, yeah it wasn't deadly, it wasn't an instant kill move! You still got, like, this part of your finger left!" NO I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. NO. I'm making a reference to the fact that, like, if I, like, if I were to get fucking KILLED... I don't know, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'. If- if- okay, if you were to- okay we're gonna take humans out of this, if alien Globgobglobgo 1 fuckin' shoots a disintegrating ray at alien Globglo 2, if there's only fucking TEETH LEFT, it's- it's fucking you're dead, you're dead.
"If I were to put you in a meat grinder," goddamnit, it's so fucked up! You understand what I'm sayin' though, I'm not actually saying that I'm going to put somebody in a meat grinder, goddamnit. Whatever.

Super worried about how they’re going to handle Nettles, my only hope is that the show makes parallels between how Daemon groomed teenage Rhaenyra to how he interacts with another teenage girl.
I want a scene where Rhaenyra realises the kind of monster Daemon has always been. This man would openly insult his “bronze bitch” older wife whilst fawning over his 14 year old niece. She’s the new Rhea Royce whilst Nettles is the new her, that realisation should hit like a ton of bricks.
Would honestly add so much more nuance to the story rather than it being Angry Wife vs. Teenage Mistress.

I think Nettles is Daemon's daughter. What do you think?

People really are missing the point of a character like Nettles. Being the a non-Valyrian dragonrider is what makes her different(in every positive definition of that word) and helps to serve a larger purpose in this story.
Valyrian blood is not special. It’s not needed to do great things. No one is special because of what family they happen to be born into.
A non-Valyrian Nettles shows that we are more than the circumstances which we are born into. Our birth, our names, and our very blood does not define us. Our actions are what do. We can overcome so much and rise to become absolutely extraordinary with a little bit of determination, patience, and a dash of help along the way. Nettles exemplifies that to the fullest extent.
She's more than a Black Valryian. She doesn’t have to be Valyrian. She shouldn’t have to be Valyrian.
She’s a survivor. She’s a final girl. She’s a Black low-born girl likely without a drop of dragons blood that tames a wild dragon with patience that killed countless others who had dragons blood. She survived the Dance where others high and low alike fell and perished to become a firewitch to the Burned Men.
Her legacy is immortalized in the history books(and by the Burned Men cause they still worship her) as one of the last(if not the last) dragonrider(s) before Dany all without having any known Valyrian ancestry.

Maester Norren writes that "the prince and his bastard girl" supped together every night, broke their fast together every morning, slept in adjoining bedchambers, that the prince "doted upon the brown girl as a man might dote upon his daughter," instructing her in "common courtesies" and how to dress and sit and brush her hair, that he made gifts to her of "an ivory-handled hairbrush, a silvered looking glass, a cloak of rich brown velvet bordered in satin, a pair of riding boots of leather soft as butter." The prince taught the girl to wash, Norren says, and the maidservants who fetched their bath water said he oft shared a tub with her, "soaping her back or washing the dragon stink from her hair, both of them as naked as their namedays."

I hope the attention that the horrible racism Bethany is receiving also opens the door to how ignored her character along with Rhaena is in the show and the fandom. There are hardly fics with them compared to others, or there are tons of OC characters who just take their personalities and characteristics. They are often ignored in art works, or memes, or anything while everyone else is included. I’ve said this indirectly for months but like .. ugh . I feel like people are willing to ignore or block out more than half of the show or story line or team or whatever like they don’t exist just because they don’t like what they look like or can’t identify with them just because they don’t look like them.
I was hoping to have all sorts of variety of fandom activity (for all the characters)when the show came out but eventually I found out it is severely limited and I wish I could write again so I could fill the void. And I won’t bother with all the altering of the storyline by the writers/producers and plots from the book for laena, the dragon twins, to make them seem mute, unloved or glorified extras, etc .Anyways I’m rambling and no one cares. I hope Bethany, Phoebe and if we get a Nettles actress is doing okay.

Nettles isn't boring.
You are allowed to not like her, but to say she's boring is crazy.
Claims a Wild Dragon and is the only person to do so using a method similar to the dragonriders of old Valyria. He was also the dragon that killed more people than all the others combined during the sowing.
Fights in the Battle of the Gullet and lives, mourning a prince in a way that only parallels his base born brother.
Is the dragonrider chosen to fight alongside Prince Daemon Targaryen to find and kill Aemond and Vhagar.
Becomes such a close companion to said prince that he betrays his wife and queen to ensure her safety.
Starts a Religon in the Vale, creating the most dangerous tribe in it.
At a certain point, words have meaning. It's okay not to like her. Just don't get racist.....

Nettles being from the bottom of society, a black girl, orphan, bastard, poor, homeless, possible sex worker, rising to the top by her wits and ambition makes her literally one of the coolest ASOIAF characters ever. In any other book she’d be the main character!
But only in asoiaf fandom do people look at her and spew the same racism the woman who wants to kill her said and think that’s a “clap back”
Gods I love nettles so much I want her in the show now! Her living on as the queen of the mountains of the moon in the vale would be such a great ending for her character. Or starting a republic or other form of government that isn’t based on inheritance because she’s seen how badly a monarchy can fall apart

I’ve always found it interesting that of the lowborn/bastard women in the DotD, Marilda is the only one who doesn’t get slandered and insulted in the Westerosi history books.
Speaking specifically about the women who were rumored to have had affairs with noblemen, the women (Sara Snow/Alys Rivers/Nettles) in particular get derogatory descriptions for various reasons. The men they are linked to all either die or are unable to do anything about the rumors (Sara: her rumored lover Jace dies and her brother Cregan is far away in the North when those rumors become a thing in the South years later/Alys: her rumored lover Aemond dies and her son is obviously too young to do anything about the insults people are saying about his mother/Nettles: her rumored lover Daemon dies). Regardless of whether any of the rumors were true or not, it's still the women in the relationships who were described in a negative manner. Even men like Aemond or Daemon don't get as slandered, despite their more controversial actions.
Sara may or may not have existed (the fact that her existence alone is doubted speaks for itself) but in the history books she is described as an "unwashed" bastard. Even the fact she was a virgin at the time of her affair with Jace is called into question. Alys gets descriptors like "slattern" and "cow". She is reviled as a seductress and witch who would sacrifice her own children. Nettles gets insulted as well, both by characters around her and the maesters/septons recording the histories. Beyond the classism, there is also a racial angle to the insults with her skin colour always being at the forefront when she gets called "dirty" and "creature". It’s unfortunate but Westerosi society is unfair to women, especially those of a lower social class, and so they do often have to rely on the men in their lives, whether that’s a male lover/husband, their father, brother(s) or son(s) as a source of protection. Characters like Sara/Alys/Nettles don't get that protection.
Then you get to Marilda's descriptions in the book, and it's completely clean. Not a single insult is uttered against her despite her supposed involvement with two different Velaryon men. Whether her affair was with Corlys or Laenor, it occurred at the time when they were married men. Laenor is dead by the time when he's claimed to be the father of Marilda's sons. But Corlys is alive and well. Not to mention, he's a very well respected figure in Westerosi society. That being said, I can’t see Corlys doing any major PR control here since he does not have the means to do so.
Alyn, however, could ensure his mother did not get negative remarks. He's the one said to have fostered close ties to the Citadel and a positive relationship with the Faith. On more than one occasion, he was anointed by the High Septon himself, which is something that's typically reserved for the King or his Kingsguard. So I think Alyn might’ve used that influence to his favor.
While Alyn does seem like the type who doesn’t care much about what others think of him, he clearly respects his mother so I doubt he would want her to have a bad reputation. Even concerning the rumors of Alyn's potential affairs, the maesters are somewhat dismissive about them and call the rumors "unreliable". They don't give much credence to what third parties are saying on such matters. As for Alyn's mother, she is spoken of with nothing but respect and even flattery at times.
History is truly written by the victors.
