Moonlit Butterfly AU
If there's one person Yosano hates most in the world, it's Mori.
If there's a second person, it's Fukuchi.
Which says lot because Yosano sees Mori everyday but has only seen Fukuchi a handful of times.
Too many times it you ask her.
It's not that Fukuchi creeped her out. He was actually quite nice and polite whenever he wasn't fighting.
A goofy man that somehow every soilder looked up too. Even with that one time he showed up drunk out of his mind.
But that wasn't what made Yosano hate him.
She hated Fukuchi because Atsushi was terrified of him.
The first time Fukuchi showed up, Yosano didn't pay him any mind. He was passing through the med bay and she had more important things to do.
He wasn't injured so he didn't matter to her.
Yosano went to clean up and found Atsushi in the corridor. "Hey Atsushi, you're never gonna guess what I heard."
She paused, noticing Atsushi hadn't moved. It was like he hadn't noticed her at all. Which was impossible, because Atsushi was always on guard.
Something was wrong.
Yosano tapped him on the shoulder "Atsushi?" He looked up at her "Yosano?"
He was crying.
Yosano instantly hugs him close. Atsushi sniffles, resting his head on her shoulder. They stay like that for a while, Yosano gently telling him that it's okay.
When the hugs ends, Yosano takes his hand and takes him to the back of the barracks.
Where Shunzen is sat reading his book. He looks up, hearing them approach and frowns at Atsushi's tear stained face.
He pats the ground beside him as both kids sit down. Shunzen grabs some tissues and gently wipes away Atsushi's tears.
Neither of them pushed Atsushi into telling them what was wrong. They just stayed there, comforting him the best they could.
"Yosano, do you remember when you said Mr Mori is why you're here in the war?" Asked Atsushi, looking at the ground. He was holding her hand still and she squeezed his lightly.
"I remember."
"I'm here because of Mr Fukuchi."
Atsushi told them how he was in his cage (Shunzen filed that information for later) and Fukuchi told him that he would be training him.
Fukuchi had taught Atsushi how to use his ability, he trained Atsushi to be a fighter. "He said for a monster like me, it'd be easier to be a killer."
His methods were not kind.
But Atsushi wasn't human so why should he be treated like one.
Yosano reassured him that he was human, it broke her heart he didn't believe her.
Shunzen thought of the immortal soilder plan and thought he was going to be sick.
He knew Atsushi had been involved, why else was a 10 year old a trained soilder.
But it still hurt to hear.
From that day on, Yosano hated Fukuchi. And the more she learned about him, she swore that should the day arrive where he was in her care.
She wouldn't use her ability on him.
Because Fukuchi wasn't human.
So why should she treat him like one.

Bsd except the Orphanage give Atsushi to the Government the moment his ability emerges.
Fukuchi trains him and he's bought to serve in the Great war. Where Yosano befriends him.
Aka Moonlit Butterfly AU.
Also yes Atsushi is aged up, he's a year younger than Yosano.
More in depth post.
Yosano hadn't expected to see another kid. She might only be 11 but she wasn't stupid.
Kids didn't go to war, that was for the adults. But apparently that rule didn't apply to her, and it seemed she wasn't the only one.
The other kid was small, scrawny and his eyes were closed. You'd think he was asleep but Yosano knew better.
She'd been told to be wary of him, and maybe she should be. There had to be something wrong with him to be in this war, right?
Because unlike her the boy was wearing the soilders uniform, he was here to fight.
But even with all that, Yosano walked up to him and tapped his shoulder.
Yellow and violet eyes blinked up at her, she'd never seen eyes that colour before.
It took a moment to remember why she was here, Yosano cleared her throat. "Hello, I'm Yosano Aikko, what's your name?"
The boy didn't reply, just looked at her in silence. She scoffed, turning around to leave. After all she had better things to do than waste time on speaking to someone who wouldn't talk.
"Atsu..."
Yosano turned around, eyes wide on suprise. The boy coughed, his voice raspy from disuse. She waited, a lot more patiently this time.
"Atsushi." He answered, he frowned apologetically at her and she suddenly felt bad. "Is that your name?" He nodded, relieved that she'd understood him.
"Sorry. No one asks." Yosano frowned "people don't ask for your name?" No wonder he'd been so confused.
Atsushi nodded.
"How rude!" He blinked, surprised before hesitantly nodding. She couldn't believe this, what happened to basic manners.
Yosano shook her head, sitting beside him. Atsushi shuffled a little to make room. Now that she was sat next to him, Yosano realised he was shorter than her.
"So do you fight? Because no offence you don't look that strong." She said, hoping that she hadn't accidentally offended him by being so blunt.
Luckily Atsushi didn't seem offended, instead he got up off the metal bench they were on and gestured for her to get off it. Before picking it up with ease.
"... Okay yeah, nevermind you are that strong." She said, sitting back down with him with a look of awe.
Atsushi rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Hey don't be like that, it was cool." Said Yosano, eyes sharp as ever.
That's when one of the soilders came in, his arm broken. Yosano got up, using her ability and sending him off on his way. It was not Atsushi's turn to look in awe.
"It's just my ability" said Yosano, not seeing how great it was. "Don't say that, it's cool." Said Atsushi, repeating her earlier words.
Yosano huffed, rather theatrically to let him know she wasn't actually offended.
"Yeah well, you'll probably see it more. Its Thou Shalt not Die, it heals practically any injury. It's why I'm here as a medic." Yosano explained, Atsushi nodded processing the information.
Before shaking his head.
"You won't, not on me." Yosano looked at him confused. "Listen your strong and all, but you can't go a whole war without getting hurt."
Atsushi shook his head, contemplating something before grabbing a scalpel and lightly cutting his finger. In seconds it had healed completely.
Yosano blinked in shock. "Your ability is healing too?" She'd never met someone else with a ability before.
Atsushi hummed, trying to find the best way to explain it. "It's included, but not my main ability" is what he said eventually. "Oh, so what's your main ability?" Yosano asked.
At that Atsushi looked down, ashamed. "Hey, you don't have to tell me but I won't think less of you either way." Said Yosano, she might've only just met him but she felt an bond with him.
Atsushi studied her face for a few seconds before nodding. "Ability name: Beneath the moonlight. The ability to turn into a tiger. Allows for the user to possess the skills and abilities of a tiger.
Both passively and through bodily transformations, both partial and complete. As well as regeneration from any exterior injuries."
It was the most he'd spoken and yet it felt awfully clinical. It was something Doctor Mori would say.
It was almost like it wasn't Atsushi's ability at all. Like he only knew it because someone had told him what to say.
Yosano didn't like that but she kept that to herself, baby steps and all that. In other news...
"You can turn into a tiger?! Can I see?" Atsushi shook his head, apologetic. "Not allowed, not if I'm not fighting." Part of Yosano wanted to push him on that, what do you mean your not allowed?
It's your ability.
"Alright, but when you can I wanna see it." Is what she said instead, Atsushi seemed confused like he couldn't understand why anyone would.
Which was werid to Yosano because, tiger.
But he shrugged "okay."
That was when the door opened and Doctor Mori walked in. "Yosano, your needed. And you, your commander is calling for you."
Yosano bristled "his name is Atsushi." Mori definitely looked like he didn't care less but Yosano glared at him until he sighed. "Fine, if it'll make you happy my dear."
He turned to Atsushi "your commander is outside, Atsushi."
Atsushi, wide eyed in suprise nodded saluting to him. "I'll awe you later, be careful." Said Yosano, she didn't like how he looked so suprised.
Had anyone ever told him to be careful? Probably not because they didn't care for his name either, honestly. She was going to change that.
"I will try." He said before leaving.. Doctor Mori watched him go, disinterested before lighting up at the sight of injured soilders and Yosano sighed following him.
Not before poking her head out a window and seeing a glowing white tiger on the battlefield.
So cool.
@rheeeeeeeesiees An attempt has been made.
