Computer Gaming World March 1996
A helicopter flight simulator was previewed on this issue’s cover, with other military aviation programs also mentioned there. Deep inside, there was a review of Bungie’s Marathon 2: Durandal.

so im at work out picking a batch right, and one of the things the customer wants is this book about nurses in the vietnam war or something. idk i just skimmed the blurb, because on the cover is a Mil Mi-24 Hind, a soviet helicopter not introduced until 1972. like could they put a fraction of time and effort into the cover designs. please.

showed my dad top gun: maverick for the first time tonight!! unsurprisingly he was thrilled to see ice and his healthy bromance with mav still going strong. very disappointed when he died. he spent most of the film blabbing about minor details which was really useful for research purposes! for example, if his observation is correct, the helicopter that tried to shoot mav after he went down was an mil mi-24 hind helicopter, which is a russian attack helicopter! i wonder if this gives any clues as to who the enemy was… /j

In June last year a friend and I went on a bit of an exploration to the aircraft graveyard at RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria, England.
It’s an Electronic Warfare test range used by NATO forces with a dummy runway and these old aircraft dotted around to look somewhat realistic with the aircraft that use the range.
The aircraft you see here are ex French Air Force Dassault Mysteres and ex Dutch Air Force Lockheed Shooting Stars. There’s also a Sukhoi Su-22 and a Mil Mi-24 Hind somewhere else on the site. There’s also various other props such as tracked anti aircraft guns, and resupply vehicles.
Unfortunately for us, the area is on a peat bog, so even though we parked less than half a mile from the area where the aircraft are it took us an hour and a half to reach them. We ran out of time before we needed to get back home, and were worried the weather was about to turn bad, so we headed back before seeing the Russian Aircraft.
This is an active Royal Air Force base, so we were technically trespassing so had to come in through the surrounding forest, the bog isn’t a nice thing to walk through, if anyone is wanting to do this themselves be prepared it’s not a normal hike through a forest!
