I was gonna be like "would you believe it's my 10th one of these" but apparently tumblr has a CHARACTER LIMIT now????? why would they nerf me on the year I decided not to worry about how long it was
anyway I guess I'm splitting this in 2 so reflections on 2023 part one~
let's start with work bc then I want to be done with it: I spent all year doing trainings (& 2 conferences) and researching and preparing to apply for an advisor position if it ever opened up. it did open up in spring, I applied and did not get it, the new advisor was not good and got fired, I applied again having done much more training and still did not get it, I applied for a different advisor position trying to triumphantly leave my office and did not get that either. so now I’m still in my same position working under the person who beat me for the job but this time with a bunch of extra responsibility that I gave myself trying to prep to be promoted. lol. if I sound very bitter it’s because I am :))))
all that being said, I do still mostly like my job from day to day. and I still want to do advising, probably. if they’ll ever hire me for it
related to work but less bitter: I had mostly good relationships with my coworkers. one of them was pregnant for a lot of the year and just had her baby last week and I’m very excited to meet her (we went to her baby shower despite all her friends being Very Christian lol it was a time) (this coworker is uhhhh A Lot but it’s complicated lol). I got to be on the hiring committee for another coworker which was a cool experience and also she is very nice. got closer with another coworker who I previously had kind of a tenuous relationship with (and now she works fully remote so it doesn’t even matter) (jk)
another thing I did in my quest to Be Hireable was basically take over supervising the student leaders (work study students) at work. shoutout to esteban, isa, aar and sheri lol
I have inherited my mother’s trait of getting attached to problem children. there are several students who are a recurring Thorn In My Side but also I’m rooting for them
last work thing that is only tangentially a work thing: I became the advisor for GSA at my campus and now I have a bunch of queer college students under my wing. a few of us walked in pride which was my first time being in the parade and it was wild. also we had an event for trans awareness week and I am proud of them for coming up with it :)) more exciting things to come this year. feels good to have a little corner where I can provide support in the face of so many attacks from the FL govt
let’s get the other big bad thing out of the way! my mental health was shit lol. I briefly was doing virtual appointments with a therapist in the spring but it mostly just made me feel weird and untherapizable. (as in, I didn’t feel like I was getting much out of it but I think part of that was that it was zoom calls from my car on my phone during lunch breaks) although it did lead to me leaving my phone outside of the bedroom at night and putting timers on my apps which I think have been net positives even if they haven’t made as much of a difference as I hoped.
the aforementioned job stress was a huge part of it, the application process lasted like 2 months and then they left me on the hook after the interview for Multiple Weeks which was. a bad time.
another part of it was I was alone a lot on weekends and I’m not very good at using my time off to do fun and nice things when I’m by myself, usually I end up just stewing in my brains. I did try to get in the habit of occasionally going to these nice gardens near us so maybe I will do that more this year also.
also health related: got my first mammogram this year. it was uncomfortable but fine. also got my first pap smear which was QUITE PAINFUL AND UNPLEASANT but I did survive it
also tangentially health related: I tried a few times throughout the year to do yoga. for a lil bit I was doing it with some coworkers after work once a week. some of it I did with some people from the carry on discord. it was very intermittent but better than nothing at all!
last health thing: my dad’s siblings had an Exceptionally Shitty Summer. one of his sisters died, another of his sisters had an extreme staph infection and was in the hospital for weeks, and one of his brothers had a mini stroke and possibly also a heart attack? the latter two are doing okay now but it was rough for a minute there
ENOUGH BAD STUFF I turned 30 this year! three full decades on this earth
Ingrid got her work authorization and a job and later in the year her green card!
I paid off my car (and also my car is having a lot of minor problems but that’s just… having a car)
I made a few financial mistakes (messed up our taxes, accidentally got a best buy credit card) but they are hopefully still fixable and overall we still saved money by the end of the year. we tried to keep a budget for a while but it was hard to keep up with. we also tried to join a credit union but their customer service was really weird
made a halfhearted attempt at local politics (went to a few protests, one city planning thing, and one socialist alternative meeting)
stay tuned for part 2 since tumblr hates me apparently

species dysphoria, csa, bullying
name-lucas
i feel like this is weird to say but I get species dysphoria and it feels exactly the same as my gender dysphoria I don’t know if it’s valid since there s a lot of bullying that goes on and people always saying it’s fake or it’s taking away from people with fl gender dysphoria but to me how it feels is it’s the same thing just for something other than gender. ive gotten bullied sm for it even by my own friends and family calling me weird, freak, a furry and just laughing at and making fun of me like im a joke that im afraid of more harassment if i come out to others so im hiding my identity. but it has made me suicidal not only the bullying but also the dysphoria i feel with being nonhuman at least with my gender dysphoria i can make it better by actually changing my body and what i wear but you can’t do that with nonhuman identities obv… i feel like it might’ve been caused by the csa i experienced by adults and older kids bc after that i rmbr my whole personality changed,i behaved more withdrawn socially, scared of others, and identity disturbance, i had anxiety about being left alone with people I didn’t trust. ive always longed for being nonhuman physically like i am mentally. idk if this is even the right place to put this but yeah
Hi lucas,
I'm so sorry about everything you've been through. Honestly I'm rather uneducated about those who identify as nonhuman - I only know a tiny bit. But I do know why for example nonhuman alters exist in a system, and I think the same explanation can be used for why trauma may play a part in someone identifying as nonhuman (but I feel the need to stress that just because trauma may influence this identity doesn't mean that the identity is wrong or should be changed, only if it is doing harm).
Part of how trauma may influence someone to identify as nonhuman could be simply congruent with how they were treated - dehumanized, and some people internalize this to such a depth that it shapes their relationship to their own humanity. But another part is often a kind of dissociation so to speak, where you meta-cognitively observe how your trauma is tied to your humanity, and seek identification in nonhuman entities as a kind of escape from the reality and gravity of that trauma. Also sometimes people who are deeply traumatized by others may gravitate towards fostering relationships with animals over human beings, although of course identifying as nonhuman is a much broader spectrum than identifying as an animal. It's worth noting that there could be more reasons as well, and these reasons may actually have very little bearing in someone's overall nonhuman identity.
I think ultimately, if you could access or afford it, a mental health professional such as a therapist could give you further insights into your nonhuman identity / species dysphoria as well as process and heal from your traumatic experiences. If anyone has any comments or suggestions please feel free to add on. Otherwise, I hope I could help, and let us know if you need anything.

That Feeling when everything a series has done made you think the ML is Guy A (introduced him first, enemies -> friends arc, strong chemistry after they bond, the promo material heavily feature Guy A and FL). Then it turns out it’s actually Guy B...
HINDSIGHT IS 20/20 BUT... RETURN ME MY INVESTED FEELINGS, GDI!
And worse still is when you can’t even argue with it...
Guy A : Innately noble and very intelligent, but heavily resentful of many things due to tragic backstory, a bit of a bastard, needed FL to break him out of his poisoned mentality, FL was very afraid of him at first
Guy B : Gentle, warm and kind towards FL (for real, not white lotus), FL has had a crush on him forever
Logically, it’s absolutely the sane option for FL, who is also traumatized with a tragic backstory of her own. She thinks of Guy B as safety and warmth, which is probably better for her mental health than Guy A, frankly she doesn’t need the burden of being his therapist??
Yet... yet... UGH. MY SHIP. MY FEELS. BAH.

Therapy For EMDR In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Your body will say what your mouth won’t say, and you will continue to feel depressed because of what you suppress.
Many of us have mastered the art of suppressing, denying and ignoring traumatic experiences, because being vulnerable may be viewed as weakness, and has never felt safe. There are instances wherein traumatized individuals feel ashamed, alone in the world, and they tend to minimize their suffering. Unprocessed traumas may manifest as: • anxiety • chronic pain • depression • gut issues • lack of sleep, numbness, • social isolation • people-pleasing • recurring toxic relationships • self-hate and chronic shame • unwanted intrusive thoughts, disturbing dreams
In other words, individuals with a traumatized brain often experience symptoms associated with past traumas on a daily basis. Therapies such as EMDR which was developed in the 1980s by Francine Shapiro, a professor at UCLA during her attempts to treat PTSD. EMDR stands for eye-movement, desensitization and reprocessing. EMDR has been very successful in allowing the traumatized brain and body to process traumatic memories naturally, eradicate negative core beliefs and release trapped toxic stress.
EMDR incorporates movements, or bilateral Tapping, and is used to facilitate overall healing. Our therapists are intentional about screening everyone to determine if this form of therapy is ideal to address the issues that are being presented. We have had much success with our use of EMDR to eradicate:
• Anxiety • Depression • Negative core beliefs, • Chronic pain, • Grief anxiety • Self-Sabotage
EMDR requires consistent attendance, mutual trust between therapist and client, and a commitment to doing the work that is necessary to build up a tolerance needed for processing. An EMDR session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and the overall effects after each session tends to be positive. One cannot determine with certainty length of time for treatment sessions as it is dependent upon the individual’s overall progress.
You will be in control during EMDR sessions, and are invited to advocate for yourself, and set boundaries as needed during processing. Our team members who specialize in EMDR therapy will guide, support you, and ensure that you are able to receive maximum benefits.

Three Ear Worthy Podcasts: Conversations With Unc; Emotional Inve$tment; Mission Implausible
Tumblr media
In this article, I offer three "couldn't be different" podcasts -- all with at least one quality to make them ear worthy. I have high hopes that Conversations With Unc is more than just blah-blah-blah because of Comedian Lil Duval. Emotional Inve$tment is a new twelve-part podcast diving into the intrinsic connection between money and mental health. The show sounds fascinating. Sadly, it's behind Audible's paywall. If you have a subscription, want to try a free trial, or can use someone else's account, you can listen and I recommend it.
Mission Implausible from iHeart takes on one of the great mysteries of the world -- Havana Syndrome. It's a puzzle with more questions than answers. Plus, it's red meat for conspiracy theorists who are still waiting for Q to come down from on high.
*****************************************************
The Black Effect Podcast Network and Comedian Lil Duval announced Conversations With Unc a limited series podcast that will feature casual and in-depth talks about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness from an Uncle’s perspective. In the new podcast, the comedian will tap into his more sensitive and serious side to offer wisdom, advice and words of encouragement to his new and old celebrity friends.
Unlike his work on stage, the new limited podcast series will tap into Duval’s more serious and sensitive side to give advice on the ebbs and flows of life.
Special guests will include Comedian Funny Marco, Former NBA Star Stephen Jackson, LARussell, Rapper Duke Deuce, Devi Brown, Reasonably Shady Podcast Hosts Giselle Bryant, Robyn Dixon and more.
Last month, iHeart and Charlamagne Tha God’s The Black Effect Podcast Network announced “Money and Wealth with John Hope Bryant,” a new weekly podcast about financial wellness and developing a wealth mindset. In each episode, Bryant unpacks the issues of the day, provide practical advice on how listeners can improve their current financial position and learn how to create personal wealth for themselves and their families.   “We all need moments of laughter, but we also crave spaces for growth and reflection,” said Dollie S. Bishop, President of Creative Development and Production, The Black Effect Podcast Network. “Our new podcast, ‘Conversations with Unc’ will blend humor with wisdom and offer unique stories and advice in ways that resonate beyond the punchline. We’re excited to collaborate with Lil Duval on this new series, and even more excited to see how these conversations will uplift and encourage listeners.” In episode one, Lil Duval will sit down with rising artist Big Boss Vette to discuss her near-death experience, her journey into music and attaining happiness beyond money and more.
Listen to episode one HERE   Roland Powell, professionally known as Lil Duval, hails from Jacksonville, FL, and has carved a versatile career in comedy, acting, and music. Renowned for his energetic and humorous film and television performances, his unique comedic style often explores everyday life, relationships, making him a dynamic and beloved entertainer. Lil Duval is currently on a new U.S. comedy tour featuring Mike Epps, DC Young Fly and Deray Davis.
New episodes of “Conversations with Unc” will publish on Tuesdays.
*******************************************
I hate that you have to sign up for a subscription to listen to an excellent podcast like this one, but I have to hand it to Audible. The company is smart enough to understand that podcasts can have an adhesive quality that can motivate listeners to subscribe to its service.
Emotional Inve$tment, a new twelve-part Audible Original podcast diving into the intrinsic connection between money and mental health, premiered on April 4th, on Audible from the audio-first entertainment company Fresh Produce Media. Therapist turned financial wellness coach Amanda Clayman hosts, delving into personal stories from real people working through real money dilemmas.
Though money touches every conceivable aspect of our lives, we still live in a world where money issues are private. Given this cultural taboo, most of the time we have no idea how other people approach this part of their lives. From salary insecurity between partners, to the connection between emotional eating and impulsive spending, during this twelve-part series of listen-in intimate conversations, Clayman unpacks it all and offers practical advice.
Amanda Clayman said, "I went into the mental health field specifically to work with people around their relationships with money. In my twenty years of experience in the field, I’ve seen how financial issues can surface some of the deepest, thorniest, most personal dilemmas we face. Emotional Inve$tment is my dream show, and it is a privilege to bring compassion and clarity to this often misunderstood dimension of our human experience."
Featured in this series:
● Stella and Lucas fell in love and got married young. Now, Lucas manages a grocery store while Stella works a high-stress, high-paying corporate job. Clayman helps the couple talk through Stella’s desire for a postnuptial agreement.
● Melvin became a successful entrepreneur in his 20s. Now, he finds that the stress of supporting his family while dealing with the precarity of a small business is bringing up feelings and decisions he was unprepared for.
● Samantha, a social worker, nurtures herself with spending, while carrying a crushing burden of student loan debt. Can she find financial stability without losing her joy?
● Danny decided to retire early from his job as a firefighter—then fell in love with someone he’d like to be able to support financially. Clayman works with Danny and his partner Osmer to talk through Danny’s feelings of shame and resentment.
● Louie is a community organizer who is comfortable helping other people but terrified to receive help themselves—or even to really look at their own financial situation. Clayman helps Louie figure out where to start.
The podcast sounds terrific. The nice part about Audible is that canceling is easy.
**************************************************
Listen to the latest episode of iHeartPodcasts’ investigative series Mission Implausible, hosted by two former high-level CIA operatives who use their expertise and insights to explore and dissect the world’s most baffling conspiracy theories.
This week, the hosts launched a two-part exploration into the mysterious Havana Syndrome illness. This mysterious condition has caused a tidal wave of speculation and misinformation. Mission Implausible is hosted by John Sipher and Jerry O’Shea, along with New Yorker and Planet Money journalist Adam Davidson. John Sipher retired in 2014 after a 28-year career in the Central Intelligence Agency’s National Clandestine Service. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal.
Jerry O’Shea worked undercover as an operations officer for over three decades. A four-time Chief of Station running some of CIA’s largest and most critical missions abroad, he has relished the challenge of service to a greater good in the gray, blurred, and bleary borderlands between good and evil, right and wrong.
It's too bad it's audio only because if it had video maybe Tom Cruise would ride a motorcycle off a cliff like in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. I wonder if Sipher and O'Shea would consider that.
