In 1983, geneticist Mary-Claire King (left) explains to Abuelas de la Plaza de Mayo [Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo] Nélida Gómez de Navajas (middle) and Estela de Carlotto (right) the technique that will be used to identify their grandchildren stolen during the last civic-military dictatorship of Argentina (1974/6-1983) and prove their kinship in court, el Índice de Abuelidad [the Grandparentage Index]. It's estimated that between 400 and 500 children were taken throughout this time.

Estela was able to hug her grandson, Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, nieto #114 [grandchild #114], in 2014.

Nélida died in 2012 and did not get to meet her grandchild. It was announced two days ago, 28 July 2023, that his identity has been restored. 11 years after she died, 40 years after this photo was taken, and 46 years after his birth to a illegally detained and still disappeared mother, Cristina Navajas, he's been found. His father and brothers are here for him. It is still a victory.

let's kill hilbert is a great hera and minkowski episode in how well it displays some of the best and worst of their dynamic (and highlights the source of their ongoing miscommunication.)

"i'm doing the best i can here, so just, please, try to sound a little less patronizing?" / "i'm not being patronizing, i'm being critical." sums up the disconnect: that what minkowski sees as professional criticism and an attempt to combat future problems, hera takes as a personal attack. ultimately, minkowski's suggestions to lighten her burden are well-meaning and closer to what hera needs than any faith in her ability to do her job (there are things she can't do, and things she shouldn't have to), but she's been made to believe her worth as a person - and her continued survival - hangs in the balance. and so, the scene that leads to that one, where minkowski takes the navigation controls from hera: "no, it's fine! i can -" / "i don't care what you can, give me the controls right now." stands out for the wording used, the different things that are meant by it, and what it reinforces for hera: i can't do this. i'm not good enough.

it makes sense that the resolution, where minkowski tells hera, "you are the smartest person i've ever met, hera; focus that intelligence [...]" is one of the moments she thinks of at the end of memoria. because it's a turning point for their relationship, because it's a show of trust ("i trust you" coming very shortly after "i need to know that i can trust you."), because it's a show of respect and the only moment in the entire show where someone refers to hera by rank, but also...

i think there's something to be said for how minkowski's voice at the end of memoria is a direct expression of belief in hera's abilities, while eiffel's "use the force, luke" shows that what hera values about eiffel is... well, eiffel, but i think it's also true that both of these things show something about communication. they show hera's understanding of eiffel and minkowski's unique communication styles, what they say and what they mean by it, and that shows what they mean to her.

"you are the smartest person i know, hera" (a slight alteration from the original line that has a ton of implications re: context and memory) isn't really about her intelligence, or even her ability. contextually, it's a direct counterstatement to "i don't care what you can" and, by association, and through their connection - minkowski's voice becomes, quite literally, like eiffel's, another voice in her head counteracting what pryce has made hera believe about herself.

did you watch the Shattered/Asylum Talkville episodes? 👀

Yes I did! I'm really sorry, I've been meaning to send you all my notes/highlights from the Shattered pod ep like I promised I would, but my last semester of grad school started like 2.5 weeks ago and I've just been massively overwhelmed since then. 😭

Tbh, you could probably watch the full Shattered pod if you wanted, it was a pretty good ep for Talkville standards. The biggest highlight was probably Michael saying that the moment where Lex sees Clark use his powers for the first time is his favorite Lex moment in the series (especially in terms of his own performance)—he's clearly really proud of this episode and I think that made the pod better in general. Also Lionel gets called an evil bastard a couple of times, Tom points out how we all feel bad for Lex by the end of the episode, and Al Gough calls the Clex relationship "the focal point of the series." Other stuff happens too ofc, but I'd say those were my top moments.

The Asylum pod was... less good, IMO—like, it wasn't bad I guess, but some stuff def left me feeling kinda frustrated, so I wouldn't really recommend that you watch that one askldfsk (I could probably skim through it again and collect some highlights from it if you want, though)

This is my current sketch book, the one I did to fill with fanarts and original character and monsters.

So I decided (once completely redone) to have something nice in the front.

So, I did a drawing of my fav character of inscryption, the lonely wizard. I wanted it to be relax and free, filled with stimulation, but a calmed stimulation.

Also, It has to be a good drawing. To look complete, and using just 3 colors, brown base, withe and black. I'm really happy with this one, and I want to draw more stuff from this game.

I remember this ask came around the type of the TB HC involving Acheron, and can I say I felt particularly proud of that one too? I've really been taking my time to throw myself back into the starting mark of Penacony after getting such an advanced grasp of the Dreamscape mechanics a touch more. This in particular just shot a high amount of intrigue for me due to how particular it was, and on top of that the way it went beyond the typical boundary of Memoria.

The place they've met had such a pivotal difference between the moments Black Swan skillfully recreated, it was as if the process in itself on that plane was fully Mastered/Realized.

From this example here, doing this in real time Penacony in terms of Dreamscape takes no shortage of skill. If this ability were to take a toll on her to imprint on reality, viewable for all.

Which only elevated the questions about the prior spoken about 'Realm' that The Trailblazer found themselves upon with Acheron's Heart actively exploring, disconnected entirely from Penacony scope affairs in terms of convention, despite making entirely accurate recreations of events, past, present and future.

Saying something as casual as this despite-

Being able to 1 for 1 depict so many of the THINGS going down there all the same.

Naturally this made my lore brain become entirely determined in exploring this aspect. From the possibilities of Memoria and I imagine in this case, being a latent ability of Acheron's ability of IX's Emanator if we were to take the earlier accounts into question. If I'm at least perceiving the material right, so much history devoured by IX is never 'lost' as much as it is recorded in unconventional means. So I pictured some odd end reaction happening between Nihility and the Remembrance in this vein.

[ID: Multiple sketches of green dragon-like creatures called drakes from the book series Draconis Memoria by Anthony Ryan. They look oddly gecko-like with bulging yellow eyes on the tops of their heads. Instead of wings, they have a large spike erupting from each shoulder. On the left, there is a fullbody and headshot of a forest dwelling green drake. It is bright green with darker green stripes along its body. It's legs are squat, like a lizard. The drake has a long thin tail ending in a sharp arrow-head like spike. It has many spikes around its face. There is a red colored throat poach on it's neck. It has unique pupils that are thin slits with two hatch marks in its bright yellow eyes. The middle of the image has a fullbody and headshot of a prairie drake, which is a duller yellow-green. This drake is taller and has more of an upright posture. It's whole body gradually gets darker in color, with the multi-spiked tail being light colored again. There is some very subtle striping around its legs. The feet of this drake look more like a dogs paws with blunt claws. It's pupils are cat-like slits in golden yellow eyes. The right side of the image has a river dragon. This one is a dark teal with a light teal underbelly. It has horizontal striping and some light speckles on its body. There are many whiskers coming from its mouth, nose, and chin. It has small fins around its face and on its legs. The feet are large and webbed. Instead of a spike, its tail is more paddle-shaped. It has very large round pupils in its bright yellow-green eyes. The headshot of the river drake has its mouth open showing very sharp yellow-ish teeth and breathing a small yellow flame. Like I said I finished the Draconis Memoria series and I wanted to try my hands at illustrating the dragons, or drakes as they call them in the books, featured in the series. There are 5 main types.

The first if the green drake. Drinking the blood of green drakes can be done by anyone, even non-blood-blessed. It helps heal wounds and take pain away. If you are blood-blessed, it gives you superhuman strength, speed, and senses for a short time. Greens are the smallest overall drake and instead of wings they have two large shoulder spikes. The can breathe fire and have large spikes at the end of their tails. While not venomous, their bites are full of nasty bacteria. Greens are pack hunters and travel in large family groups. There are three subclasses of greens: forest, prairie, and river.

Forest greens are the smallest and the most adept at climbing. Their small size allows them to prosper in the very dense rainforest/jungle of the interior. They are also the best at changing their colors. Headcannon time now. Generally, their base color is a vibrant green with some striping. I think forest greens look the most like geckos/lizards. They have a lot of spikes and spines that actually help break up their shape and allows them to blend in more with their environment. Ambush predators, they prefer to silently creep up on prety then drop from above. The sticky pads on their wide splayed toes help them stick to surfaces. They have a throat flap like anoles that they can puff up to intimidate other dragons.

Prairie greens are the next largest of the greens. They have a more upright appearance as they live and hunt on the plains of the interior, thus need to be able to gallop quickly after prey. This gives them more of an upright appearance. Now headcannon stuff. They have a more dull-green-yellow color to blend in with the more brown yellow prairie grasses. They aren't great at changing their colors, but they are more chase-based predators anyway. Their packs operate like hyena packs: coordinated attacks and overwhelm the prey with numbers. They have fewer spikes for a more streamlined appearance. Their feet are more mammalian with almost dog/cheetah like toes better suited for running than climbing.

Last are the river greens, the largest and most aggressive of the bunch. They live in the fresh water rivers, swamps, and marshes of the interior. They can be very difficult to see in the murky waters, only to burst up without warning and drag their prey down to the depths. For headcannon things, they are also pretty good at color changing, but can't quite do it to the extent of forest greens. For example, they are restricted to green-blue colors mostly. They typically are a dark teal green with rippling patterns and a lighter belly. These greens have many whiskers and barbles to feel around in murky water. They have some pseudo-fins as well, with even their shoulder spikes having a membrane. The feet of river greens are big, floppy, webbed and paddle-like. Their tail is also flattened and the spike is more of a paddle, though still sharp. Fire from river greens is the weakest of any drake.

There weren't any notable green drakes in the books like the other dragons, so these are just some random guys. Next up will be the red drakes!

angry at alsan for the way he's teaching toxic masculinity to jack. angry at alsan and seíl for how they're failing to meet any of jack's emotional needs or even to recognize them most of the time. like ffs take that kid to a park even like, once. just teleporting to earth doesn't set off kirtash so just. go to a fucking zoo with him even like, once. it's really not that hard. yes i know neither of them wanted to be stuck raising a 13 year old traumatized boy but if you won't put him in an orphanage somewhere on earth where he can't be traced to from his previous place of residence, or like therapy or something, at least take him to see the sunlight once a month or something. no wonder the boy's getting eaten up by hate and rage.

and like he understands that it sucks but not the extent of it.

its horrible but like in a cathartic way i think. helps me understand and recontextualize a bunch of things of my own.

For today's Trans Day of Remembrance, here's some of my favourite photos in the Archivo de la Memoria Trans Argentina, a trans-led collective dedicated to build an audiovisual archive to proteger, construir y reivindicar la memoria trans argentina a través de fotos, videos y recortes de diarios, además de diversas piezas como DNIs, pasaportes, cartas, notas, legajos policiales, artículos de revistas, y diarios personales [to protect, build and revindicate Argentinian trans memory through photos, videos and newspaper clippings, in addition to various pieces such as ID cards, passports, letters, notes, police files, magazine articles, and personal diaries]. The archive has + 15.000 pieces from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1990s. The collection continues to grow thanks to donations of material made by the survivors themselves, and their families and friends.

another consideration about hera's autonomy is how, the way she exists, she is always at risk of being surveilled and being used as an unwilling surveillance tool. her thoughts are never fully private - the others are at risk of that from pryce, but there are additional steps required to gain access to their minds. anyone with above a certain level of competency with AI could gain access to hera's thoughts. maxwell does this all the time, with or without hera's permission: reading directly from her thought stream, going into her head and looking through her memories, etc. and those are the things that are comparatively benign and under more justifiable circumstances.

it's implied that hera can focus more of her attention in certain areas if she chooses to, but she also doesn't really have a say in being everywhere, all the time - she can't turn it off without someone externally disconnecting parts of her sensory system. she cannot give the others privacy, and that's a violation on both parts. basically every antagonist in the show, in varying ways, takes advantage of hera for information via her constant, involuntary surveillance of the people she cares about - to the point they have no choice but to exclude her from some of their plans. even lovelace kind of did this, at one point, and it ends up being something they have in common: lovelace is used as an unwilling surveillance tool for the dear listeners, and that's used to dehumanize her and make her seem dangerous.
