Movie Review: The Lovebirds
When I heard Netflix was releasing
THE LOVEBIRDS
I was happy not have to wait until 2021 for its release.
There have been few things to be excited for lately like
NEW MOVIES
so when Netflix planed to premiere
THE LOVEBIRDS
the new film from Michael Showalter, director of the excellent romantic comedy
THE BIG SICK
I was excited!
The promising trailer made me hopeful for the movie
as I was to see Showalter reunite with the talented Kumail Nanjiani.
Sadly the trailer was better than the movie and
THE LOVEBIRDS
is more
STUBER
than The Big Sick.
It is a cliched genre film
with a few laughs given away in
THE TRAILER!
Nanjiani’s costar and Insecure’s Issa Rae is equally talented and
the actors do what they can with
A WEAK SCRIPT
but there is not enough character arc to make their journey convincing.
THE LOVEBIRDS
is not the worst. If it’s late at night, your bored and you need a movie to keep you entertained the film will work. I just expected more!

LOVEBIRDS: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5: (Non Spoilery bit) This “Romcom” is more of a comedy as the “Rom” is just a small aspect of the story. Here’s the premise; on the brink of breaking up, a couple gets unintentionally embroiled in a bizarre sequence of events. It was really good, not super original in the plot quite a lot of fun and reminded me of the movie “Games Night” which I also enjoyed. Have you seen it? What did you think? (Potentially Spoilery bit) As I said above although, there is romance but in a way it seems their relationship is more the setup for character dynamic and comedy as they are thrust into the action than the point of the movie. I used this image from the film as the official movie poster has them looking sad which doesn’t really sell it as a fun movie.
