Jimmy Page is Ready to “Rumble”
- Reclusive guitarist returns to the stage to induct Link Wray into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
One of rock’s great mysteries - What would it take to get Jimmy Page back on stage? - has been solved.
The answer? Link Wray’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Page, who hadn’t performed publicly since 2014, appeared on stage in New York Nov. 3 to do the honors for Wray. After a pre-recorded video speech, Page, backed by double bass and drums, played “Rumble” on his double-neck Gibson SG; the performance was captured on fan-shot video and finds the former Zoso rendering Wray’s signature number with his own well-known physical and musical flair.
Oddly, after praising Wray for “the drama that you can set up with six strings,” Page played the song wholly on 12 strings.
“If ever there was a guitarist who deserves this, if ever there was a guitarist who changed people’s attitude to what they heard, it’s Link Wray,” Page said in his induction speech.
Now, what would it take to get Led Zeppelin back on stage?
