Mrs. Ruby Lavinia Miller Johnson, age 84 of Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday, June 30th, 2019 at Wilkes Senior Village.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 5th, at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Billy Felts officiating. Burial will be in Yellow Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the services at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson was born April 30, 1935 in Ashe County to Lawrence Miller and Nora Beshears Parsons. She was a homemaker and member of Oakwood's Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Rev. William Clifford Johnson and a brother; Billy Dean Miller.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons; Tony W. Johnson and wife Dawn of Nebo and Ricky and Betsy Johnson of Wilkesboro, two grandchildren; Matthew Johnson of Charlotte and Amanda Davis and husband Scott of Indian Land SC, two great grandchildren; Cooper Davis and Trevor Davis and two brothers; Albert B. Miller and wife Betsy of Wilkesboro and Tom Parsons of Shelby.

Mr. David Mathis, age 63 of Roaring River passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ronda with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Mathis was born August 25, 1955 in Tipp  City, Ohio to R. D. and Helen Roberts Mathis.  He was a self-employed logger and a member of Cranberry Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; R.D. Mathis, his first wife: Melody Mathis and father-in-law; Donnie Lee Wiles.
He is survived by his wife; Sherry Wiles Hudspeth of the home, his mother; Helen Roberts Myers, step-daughter; Jessica Hudspeth of Ronda, grandson; Waylon Grant Brown, one sister; Flora Wiles and husband Matt of Traphill, two brothers; Bobby Mathis and wife Lola of Millers Creek and Terry Mathis and wife Sheila of Hamptonville, mother-in-law; Barbara Wiles, brother-in-law; Matt Wiles, sister-in-law; Tracie Sheets all of Traphill, several nieces and nephews and best friend and cousin; Dan Mathis.

Mr. Avery Clarence Church, Jr. age 67 of Jonesville, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6,  at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Rick Church and Mr. Daniel Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10- 11 a.m. prior to the service at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Church was born March 5, 1952 in Wilkes County to Avery Clarence Church, Sr. and Bertha Gaynell Roope Church. He was retired from Jeld-Wen. Mr. Church coached Youth Baseball in Reidsville for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Church is survived by his wife; Brenda Kay Perdue Church of the home, two daughters; Kay and Gary Farmer of Sevierville, TN and Anita and Roy Chatham of North Wilkesboro, a son; Edward Avery Church of Jonesville, four grandchildren; Autumn Renee Lusk, Jeremiah Dylan Lusk, Timothy Austin Lusk and Steven Chatham, two great grandchildren; Violet Nicole Lusk and Connor Austin Lusk, two sisters; Karen Kennon of Reidsville and Darlene Moore of Douglasville, GA and three brothers; Rick and Joyce Church of Summerfield, Paul and Cindy Church of Chattanooga and Kenneth and Kathy Church of Burlington.

Aldean Richardson, age 70, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home. He was born October 10, 1948 in Wilkes County to Johnsie Conway and Gladys Bell Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, J.C. Richardson; and step mother, Hazel Richardson.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Taylor Richardson; his children, Andrew "Andy" Richardson, Samantha Richardson both of North Wilkesboro, Christopher "Chris" Richardson and spouse Nicole of Millers Creek; grandchildren, Steven Richardson of Clingman, Olivia Richardson of Millers Creek; twin sister, Geraldine Call of North Wilkesboro; special niece, Sherry Call of Wilkesboro.
Memorial service was July 2,  at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Key officiating.

Gladys Ann Call, age 48, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born August 1, 1970 in Wilkes County to John and Thelma Roberts Call. Ms. Call was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Annie; her mother and stepfather, Thelma Call and Charlie; and a brother, James Call.
Surviving are her son, Allen Call of Asheville; sister, Carolyn Combs and husband Darrell of Ronda; one niece; two nephews; three great nephews; and companion, Buck Jordan of Roaring River.
Graveside service will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.

William "Bill" Porter, Jr., age 73, of Roaring River, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1946 in Wilkes County to William Franklin Porter, Sr. and Lessie Pruitt Porter. Mr. Porter was a US Army National Guard Veteran. Bill played mandolin and harmonica and collected coins and stamps. Bill was a very hard working farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel McHone, Opal Dimette, Arlene Vickers, Wanda Cockrum, Rosalie Pierce; and brother, Sam Porter.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Garrett Porter; son, Charles Enoch Porter and spouse Jeanny of Roaring River; daughters, Mary Jane Rogers and spouse Jason of Hamptonville, Kimberly Jackson of Thomasville; grandchildren, Joseph Brock, Caitlin Brock both of Roaring River, Tyler Jackson of Thomasville; great granddaughter, Araiah Brock of Roaring River; brothers, Larry Porter of North Wilkesboro, Clayton Porter, Don Porter, Garry Porter all of Roaring River; sisters, Nancy Minton, Barbara Farmer, Elaine Poplin all of North Wilkesboro, Pauline

Mrs. Frances Jane Craig Rogers, age 91 of North Wilkesboro, widow of Lee Roy Rogers, died Friday, June 28, 2019 at her home.  
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. Bert Young officiating.                                Entombment will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.  
Mrs. Rogers was born March 17, 1928 in Henry County, VA to Sam and Edna Viola Stokes Craig.  She was a past Executive Director of the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce and was a member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro.  
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Francie Anne Rogers and Carol Rogers Reid; one sister, Betty Ann C. Gourley; and one brother, Sam Craig, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Eric Lee Rogers and wife, Jill, of North Wilkesboro; three grandchildren, Catherine Rogers Reid, and husband, Eric, Anne Marie Reid, and Carrie
Rogers Byrd and husband, John; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sallie Benton Shew, age 97 of North Wilkesboro, widow of Henry Walter Shew, died Friday, June 28, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Medical Center.
Funeral services were July 2,  at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Rodney Blake officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. A family burial service was Wednesday, July 3, at Antioch Baptist Church.  
Mrs. Shew was born June 20, 1922 in Wilkes County to Minnie Eller Benton.  She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and worked for many years at Modern Globe. She was a wife, mother to all, grandmother(Grandma, Granny), was the best cook and baker of cakes and pies, an avid reader of the Bible and novels, loved to travel in most all the 50 states, and an avid gardener, loved to crochet, knit and do puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Richard (Ricky) Shew, Sr; three granddaughters, Lisa Soots, Rebecca Shew, and Amanda Shew; one grandson, Barry Shew; two sisters, Nora (Gypsy) Shew and Mary Ruth Foster; and two brothers, James Hardin Benton and Sylvester (Pate) Benton.  
She is survived by five daughters,  Susie Mastin of Wilkesboro, Betty Combs and husband, Leon, Brenda Combs, Barbara Hollar and husband, Danny, and Sandra Shew, all of North Wilkesboro; five sons, James (Peter) Shew and Tommy Shew and wife, Sue, both of North Wilkesboro, Warner Shew of Scottville, William Shew and wife, Mary, and Robert Shew, both of North Wilkesboro; nine grandchildren, Missy Johnson, David Combs, Tommy Shew II, Angela Shew, Robert Steven Shew II, Larry Shew, Kimberly Gilreath, Richard Shew, Jr., and Robert (Toot) Combs; and twelve great-grandchildren, Samantha Johnson, Kaylee Johnson, Brian Johnson, Christy Robertson, Tommy Shew III, Chloe Shew, Kaita Shew,  Taylor Combs, Liam Shew, Kelly Shew, Ryleigh Gilreath, and Aaron Gilreath; seven great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Mattie Johnson, Seth Tharpe, Luke Tharpe, Kierstin Johnson, Kasey Johnson, and Isobella.

David King, 57

David Wayne King, age 57, of Elkin, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at SECU Hospice Home in Smithfield, N.C. He was born November 25, 1961 in Wilkes County to John Franklin and Nancy Florence Hubbard King. He was a member of Wilson Mills Christian Church. David was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and gardening. He loved to be outside. He was also highly skilled and talented in his profession. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank King; and sisters, Patricia Richardson, Emelie O'Brien.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Higgins King of Elkin; daughters, Vanessa Ashley King of Elkin, Laura King Lee and husband Justin Lee of Clayton; sisters, Linda Minton of Hiddenite, Michel Lail of Shelby; brother, Charles Richardson of Hickory, and grandchildren, Ashton Donovan Nixon, Cora Grace Lee both of Clayton.
Funeral service was July 2, 2019 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lea Slaton officiating. Burial followed in Liberty Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carolyn "Carol" Louise Stacy, age 66, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born January 16, 1953 in Wilkes County to Henry and Dorothy Ray Church. Carol was a member of North Wilkesboro Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. Mrs. Stacy was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Jim Stacy and a brother, John Church.
Surviving are her mother, Dorothy "Dot" Church of Wilkesboro; and brothers, Henry Church and spouse Agnes of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, Eddie Church and spouse Young of Petersburg, Virginia, and David Church of Hamptonville.
Some of Carol's favorite hobbies included quilting, her flowers, fishing, being outside and most of all enjoying life. She loved helping others. Carol will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Memorial service was July 1,   at Miller Funeral Chapel with Pastor Victor Church officiating.                                    The family has requested no flowers. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Dorothy Church, 1477 Antioch Church Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.

George Ervin McNeil, age 86, of Millers Creek, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Regional. He was born November 29, 1932 in Wilkes County to Joseph Clyde and Ruby Huffman McNeil. George was a US Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and deacon at    Cricket Baptist Church. George was a mechanic and loved restoring antique cars and making new friends. Mr. McNeil was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Jean Glass McNeil; daughter, Debra Pendry and spouse Reggie of North Wilkesboro; sons, Rodney McNeil and spouse Tina, William McNeil all of Millers Creek; grandchildren, Travis McNeil, Kandis Fogleman and spouse Cy, Will McNeil; brothers, Bob McNeil and Fred McNeil; sisters, Shirley Myers, Martha Bauguess; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was July 1,   at Cricket Baptist Church with Pastor Randall Millsaps, Rev. Robert Webb, Pastor Jamie McGuire, Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating.   Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 1142   followed in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mr. James "Jim" Lovette, age 88, of Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Villages of Wilkes Assisted Living.
Funeral services were June 30,   at Millers Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Shannon Critcher officiating. Burial was in Scenic Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Key officiating.
Mr. Lovette was born December 22, 1930 in Wilkesboro, NC to Jerome Anderson and Queenie Belle Bumgarner Lovette. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro and attended Millers Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Lovette was the retired President of King Sash and Door, Inc. and was one of the founding partners of Greenstreet Mountain Resort, Inc. . He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by parents; his sisters; Grace, Florine, Dare, Beatrice, Edith and Elizabeth; and by his wife of 50 years, Thelma Lee Hayes Lovette.
Mr. Lovette is survived by his wife of 9 years, Colean Hamby Lovette of the home, a daughter and son in law; Teresa and Randy Lackey of Asheville, two sons and daughter in laws; Jeff and Joana Lovette of Charlotte and Mike and Jennifer Lovette of North Wilkesboro, six grandchildren; Jamie Lackey Canupp and husband Nick, Jason Lackey and wife Lindsay, Matthew Sorbo, Caitlin Lovette, Julianna Lovette and Kaden Lovette and two great grandchildren; Claire Evelynn Canupp and Elijah Anderson Lackey.

Thomas Edwin Doss, age 54, of Millers Creek, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at his home. He was born July 20, 1964 in Knoxville, Tennessee to John Thomas Doss III and Virginia Shia Doss. Mr. Doss was a US Navy Veteran. He had been a manager at Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. Mr. Doss was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judith Virginia Doss.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Sullivan Doss; and a brother, John Eric Doss of Raleigh.
No service will be held. Memorials may be made to Miller Funeral Service to help family with funeral expenses.

Mr. James (J.D.) Dewey Johnson, age 76 of Hays, passed away Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 at his home.
Funeral services were June 27th, at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Julius Blevins and Rev. Steve Smith officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born May 14, 1943 in Wilkes County to James Murphy and Flora Rhoades Johnson. He was retired from Louisiana Pacific Corporation.
In addition to this parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Teresa Lynn Johnson and a sister; Grace Dumoulin.
He is survived by his wife; Annie Katherine Ball Johnson of the home, a son; James David Johnson and wife Jennifer of Boonville and four grandchildren; Elizabeth Johnson, Caroline Johnson, Alexander Ball and Haley Ball.

Della Jean Sparks, age 58, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Regional. She was born July 2, 1960 in Surry County to Johnnie Vance and Dora Jean Reavis Blevins. Mrs. Sparks was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis Sparks; brother, Billy Joe Blevins; and sister, Nancy Marie Blevins.
