Building a Farm

Thinking about building your first farm? Excellent! Basically, a farm is just a second account in ROK. So you create a new account and then move it to your active kingdom. Then you optimize the farm to produce resources for you, you attack it and keep the resources.

First things first. If you haven’t bound your existing account, do that first. Instructions are available here.

Now, go back to Account -> Settings, and click the “Start a New Game” button. Use a different email address, and you’re off to the races.

Once you start your new game, follow the binding instructions here to bind that new farm account to your email address.

You will probably have landed in a Kingdom other than your own. That’s OK for now. Start building your new castle. BUT DO NOT ADVANCE IT BEYOND C4!!! After that, you can’t move it to your kingdom.

When you’re ready - and before Castle level 5, use a teleport to move your castle to your kingdom. If your main castle is in a dangerous area, you may not be able to move your farm to be near it just yet, but getting it into your kingdom is the most important thing - you can move it to be near your main later, but not if it’s not in the same kingdom as you are.

NOTE: I think that an optimum castle level for a Farm is between 13 and 15. That’s high enough to be able to benefit from the Research to boost Resources and Hospital beds, but not so high that you’re spending a fortune upgrading your castle. 15 can make sense, if you want to access silver and a few extra resource tiles.

Now it’s time to set about building your castle. Remember that the goals for a farm are different than the goals for your main. You will intend to regularly attack this farm castle for resources, so don’t invest in Arrow Towers, advanced troops, or the Storehouse (any more than you have to in order to keep leveling up your castle.)

RESOURCE TILES

To start out with you’ll want to have the following as soon as you’re able:

5 War Tents (which you will eventually destroy and replace with lumber/iron)

6 Hospitals (with your goal being to max them out as you make more tiles available

8 Grain Fields

Fill in what’s left with lumber and/or iron.

All your available tiles should be working for you.

SOLDIERS

For soldiers, your ultimate goal will be to have 3 full sets of troops that can clear a Level 7 tile, and a hospital bed for all of them. That's about 78,000 soldiers. Life as a farm is dangerous, and having a bed to heal in is far better than dying. When you reach this level, you can tear out many (not all) War Tents and replace with Lumber or Iron.

You don’t need to invest in high-level troops. A nice mix of lower level troops is generally sufficient. Low level troops are fast to train, fast to heal, and don’t eat a lot. Catapults are helpful here because they carry a lot, and are Level 1s.

DONT BUILD TRAPS - they’ll only hurt your main, and you’ll be too weak to effectively withstand an attack anyway.

RESEARCH

Don’t invest too much in military or defense. Your goal is to regularly conquer this castle. But do invest in the following to maximize your ability to gather Resources:

Now - the trick is to maximize your yield - here are some strategies:

Get those troops out into the world and start harvesting (be sure to go back and finish your tiles though, or your Alliance will hate you).

Use the Harvest button every 4 hours.

Harvest your crops at least once every 8 hours (10 if you’re not using your harvest buttons)

Play Marth once a day

Play Dragon’s Challenge once a day

Check with the Drunken Wizard for Resource swaps that will increase your total available (ie buy 100,000 Lumber with 80,000 Grain).

Take your Free Wishes every day. (I try to take my free wishes in Iron since that’s so much harder to get)

Consider buying a couple of wishes of Iron, Wood, and Grain each day with Gems.

When Warplay is available – Play.

Be sure to visit each farm long enough to get the first 5 loads from the Port workers. The first 3 are boxes of Grain, Lumber, and Iron (the same number as you castle level). And then a 1 Day Grain and Lumber Yield Boost. Get them and use them. :)

BUILDINGS

Don’t upgrade:

Only upgrade troop and traps to the extent you have to in order to move your castle level along.

Don’t worry about upgrading your Storehouse.

Do upgrade:

Embassy - you’re going to want to offer a place for other farms (including your own) to hide eventually.

Trade Council - if you have more than one farm, sending resources to a single farm with a shield keeps your other farms from being a target. And a higher trade council means you lose less to taxes.

Drill Grounds - the ability to move more troops at one time can be valuable. Whether it’s clearing level 7 or 8 tiles, or hiding out.

Fountain - More wishes = more resources

Institute - More Research gets you where you want to go.

Hospitals - as high as you can get them.

In Castle Tiles - higher levels yield more resources.
