A Review of the Legacy Standard Bible, Inside Column Reference Edition in Blue Cowhide Leather.
A Review of the Legacy Standard Bible, Inside Column Reference Edition in Blue Cowhide Leather.
I preordered this edition when the option became available, and have been patiently waiting for it to arrive. I am also waiting for other editions to be published. I know that many people don’t use the cross references often, but I do like to have them in my daily reader. I am hoping for the MacArthur Study Bible in LSB to be announced one of these days. I know it is a matter of time. This Bible…

With the launch of @renegadepublishing’s code of conduct and formalized membership this week (as well as the shiny new DreamWidth hub!), I wanted to get some of my thoughts out there.
This has all been a project for some time now, and I don’t think anyone knew what it was going to turn into.
Renegade started with one man, @armoredsuperheavy, and grew into a movement that’s now 1,200+ and counting. He is the reason fanbinding came into the mainstream fandom consciousness the way it has, and I don’t see it going away anytime soon - it’s spreading faster than Tumblr’s weird ass chat function. Hundreds upon hundreds of books were made because of you, Ash; that’s a damn good legacy, imo.
But I digress - Renegade grew from one man to a handful of people in a little Discord server. The server grew. They started a Tumblr, and this is how it went for some time. When I joined, this is how it was - we were so excited to hit 500 members! But, surprisingly, for someone as terminally on Tumblr as I am - I actually discovered fanbinding through Instagram, then TikTok. I had to actively seek out fanbinding on Tumblr, because I knew it had to exist here if it was already on these mainstream platforms.
Nowadays, fanbinding is becoming increasingly controversial in some circles because of the commodification and commercialization that have taken root; the mantra I keep seeing is “Keep Fandom Free”. This seemed a self-evident truth to me; and I couldn’t understand why it felt like no one knew about Renegade, a league of fanbinders who believe in this very ideal.
In essence, it’s a two-pronged issue: fanbinding is rising in popularity (and controversy), but the advocates-for-free-resources community isn’t terribly visible. Renegade was tucked away on Tumblr, a hidden gem in a locked Discord. I felt like I had discovered buried treasure the day Ash sent me the link to join. So, an idea was birthed - to take Renegade to other platforms, to spread our message and introduce our gift economy ways - to shout from the rooftops about the free, incredible 88-page bible ASH wrote detailing every goddamned step on how to take a fic from AO3 and turn it into a physical book.
Once we got in the room to discuss what this would look like, we discovered we have lots of ideas. We have a community, and we’re all excited to build in it. To share and grow. To make it easier on the people who come after us, with guides and templates. We started thinking about events we could host; the Exchange and Binderary were birthed naturally in the Discord, and have grown in scope to include physical books mailed around the world, and free workshops coordinated and hosted for multiple timezones during the month of February. Fan Fiction Writer Appreciation Day, Banned Books Week, International Fanworks Day - the list goes on and on. More events that haven’t even been announced yet. More projects, ever churning to better our community.
The DreamWidth quickly became a hub to aggregate and host resources better than Tumblr could, to promote discussion and community in a gentler way than Discord was able to. But the controversy kept spinning across other swathes of fanbinding, and the question was raised - what do we believe in?
We are all so different and yet, so unified. We have members on 6 continents, who speak different languages, who belong to hundreds of different fandoms. But what, at it’s core, does it mean to be a part Renegade?
And so, the code of conduct was born.
A code of conduct is a set of standards, moral and ethical, that someone is expected to adhere to in order to interact with an organization. It’s not law - we’re not trying to police anyone, or tell them what to do. We’re telling people what we do - what we believe. There’s no punishment for disagreeing, nor should there be. The code is a mutable document written by members - and so it can be changed by members, and should be changed, as we grow and encounter new challenges. The safest hands are our own, right?
There will be push and pull on this document, but I think that’s a good thing. At the end of all of this, I’m excited for us to acknowledge our community values. I wear my Renegade Publishing badge with pride, because I’ve never seen another group of artists so supportive of each other, and generous with their knowledge. Ash has expounded upon this many a time, but Renegade has the feeling of old-school fandom that I’ve been missing. I haven’t felt this united with fandom since Mishapocalypse.
All jokes aside, I’m so glad I found Renegade. It’s brought so much to my life. Just last weekend, I met up with some local binders, and we had a little Renegade outing. Fandom friends, IRL, geeking out with each other over some books. Does it get any better than that?
Join the movement. Check out our resources! We’re excited to have you here.

tudor gothic:
the lord chancellor is called thomas. he runs the country. he wants no part in where england goes from now. the lord chancellor is being arrested for treason. the lord chancellor was executed. the lord chancellor was never arrested. there is no lord chancellor.
the crown is dissolving monasteries. this is standard practice. all the monasteries are shutting down. this is thomas's fault. you have no idea which thomas. the crown wants the monasteries back. the monasteries are never coming back. you visited an intact monastery just yesterday. when you blinked, the ruins gave alms to the poor.
the wars of the roses have just ended decisively. the wars of the roses have been over for decades. the legacy of civil war haunts england. you've watched shakespeare's wars of the roses plays. the wars of the roses must have been over when the throne passed peacefully to henry viii. when you close your eyes, you can somehow hear reginald pole laughing at you.
the duke of somerset was beheaded for treason. so was the duke of buckingham. so was the duke of northumberland. so was the duke of norfolk. so was the duke of suffolk. the duke of suffolk never lost the king's affection. all the dukes are vying for power. but then you remember: there are no dukes. perhaps there never were.
the howards are not to be trusted. thomas howard was thrown in the tower. thomas howard was executed for treason. thomas howard lived out his life peacefully. thomas howard only narrowly escaped henry viii's reign with his life. you are drowning in thomases. they never end. one thing you are certain of, though: thomas howard is long dead. thomas howard will outlive us all.
you know the names of every courtier in the kingdom, and yet more go missing with every passing day. you try to note down the name of thomas wryth, but you cannot put quill to parchment. how is it spelt? wriothesley? you have always known that. you know it deep in your bones. and yet, when you try to say it out loud, words fail you. words fail everyone, where the earl of southampton is concerned. somewhere dark and terrible, an ancient beast awakens from its slumber. like everything else, it is also called thomas.
you turn to noting down the name of the queen. kateryn parr. this is a simple task. your subconscious whispers catalina to you in a distinctly spanish accent. your hand shakes. you try to write down catherine, but it morphs into a k against your will. you drop your quill, hand trembling. nonetheless, there is a name before you. whose name it is is anyone's guess.
mary is queen. which mary? which queen? suddenly, you are not so sure.
the bible is written in latin. the bible has always been written in latin. you flick through the pages of your bible, and greek letters swim before your eyes. you check the book again, and find you are holding a book of hours. all the words are in english. you cannot read any of them.
the king of england has ruled for many years. he is nine years old. the king of england is a foreign power. elizabeth was king; now james is queen. long live queen james!

tell us some xena trivia
FORGOT to answer this yesterday, hello!!
here is all the xena warrior princess trivia i can remember off the top of my head:
a popular x/g author (called a “subtexter” back then) named melissa goode wrote at least two episodes in season 6! “when fates collide” and “legacy.”
at a recentish xenacon (i think 2016?) lucy lawless and reneé o’connor read a scripted proposal between xena/gabrielle, then lucy dipped reneé and smooched her sweetly on the mouth in front of a cheering audience.
in s6, there was supposed to be an episode where xena/gabrielle met sappho and she looked Exactly like gabrielle a la xena +meg and diana. it was also a musical episode
lucy lawless uses her real singing voice for “the bitter suite” and reneé o’connor is dubbed over. (lucy also sings in concert sometimes! idk if recently though)
in “fins, femmes, and gems” gabrielle originally was going to develop an obsession with xena instead of herself. however, the writers felt this would turn x/g into a joke and didn’t want to disrespect their lgbt fans. (this cast/crew wasn’t just good for the 90’s, they’re literally like. the gold standard for How to Treat Your Unexpectedly LGBT Fanbase)
hudson leick did this commentary series years ago and at one point said “listen to your wife, xena!” while watching a xena/gabrielle scene LMAO. she’s also famous for doing the callisto war cry at cons.
karl urban played like. three different characters throughout his time on xena. let’s see if i can remember them all. there’s caesar obviously, then UHHH esau? a bible guy. then this random guy in the amazon high spin-off pilot that was cancelled then later became a clipshow xena ep. i guess that counts as another piece of trivia
eve canonically has three moms and no dads. peace and love on planet earth

Secrets to Effective Prayers & Spiritual Warfare
Message from the Editor:
As I reflect on the life and legacy of Beni Johnson, one of the things that stands out to me is her unwavering commitment to prayer and intercession.
Her calling to combine joy and intercession has had a profound impact on my own prayer life and on countless others at Bethel, and beyond. Beni's passion for intercession was contagious, and her teachings were always grounded in the truth of God's Word. She truly embodied the heart of a servant and the spirit of a warrior.
She reminded us that prayer is not just a duty or a religious obligation, but a vital and life-giving connection to our Heavenly Father. And who doesn’t want to have a deeper, intimate connection with our God?
As I read Whispers from Heaven, I can imagine her cheering me on through from the cloud of witnesses, calling me to connect with God. And it’s not just me. Her mantle is there for us to put on and continue where she left off.
Through her teachings, Beni emphasizes the importance of partnering with God in prayer in order to see Him move in miraculous ways. She encourages us to seek God’s heart and align our prayers with His will, knowing that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28 NIV).
Thank you, Beni, for your faithful service to God and His Kingdom. You will be dearly missed, but your teachings and the fruit of your ministry will continue to bear witness to the power of prayer and the importance of partnering with God to see Him move.

Often, it seems like intercessors get so focused on what the devil is doing that they don’t look at what God is doing. The question is not, “What is the devil doing?” The question should be, “What is God doing?” This should be the life theme of all of the people of God. But here’s the deal. There are times when intercessors can pick things up from the demonic realm. And some intercessors will get stuck here and even live out of this place. They begin living out of the first and second realms.
Let me explain. There are three “realms” that are mentioned in the Bible. The word realm means a region, sphere, or area. The Bible specifically talks about the first realm, the second realm, and the third realm. The first realm is the realm that you can see with your eyes. It’s the physical realm. “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea” (Revelation 21:1 NKJV). So here you can see that the first heaven is the earthly realm, or what you can see right now. Our bodies, our homes, and our cities exist in the earthly realm. Deuteronomy 10:14 (NKJV) says, “Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it.” According to the New American Standard Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, the word heaven means, “astrologers, compass, earth, heaven, heavens, and the highest heaven.” From the beginning, God created the earth, the heavens, and the highest heavens.
The second heaven, or “midheaven” of Revelation 14:6 (NASB)—“and I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people”—is the demonic and angelic realm where they war with each other. In Daniel, the second realm is also shown to be the demonic and angelic realm (see Daniel 10:13).
Then, there is the third realm. This realm is where the glory of God is. It’s the beauty realm. The apostle Paul calls the third heaven “paradise.” It’s where we can see the great plans of Heaven.
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2 NKJV).
He continues in verse 4, “how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words.”
The third realm is where every believer should live. You see, all believers should live from a place of victory, knowing and partnering with the strategies of God. Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV) says that God has “raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” You have heard the saying, “so heavenly minded, no earthy good”? That’s a very impossible saying. I believe that, if you are heavenly minded, you will be of great good to this earth.
Prayer
Thank You, God, for the gift of sensitivity that You have placed in me. Whenever that gift feels overwhelming, whenever I am picking up all of the frequencies of the first and second heaven, I will turn my face to Yours. I will rise in my spirit above and access Your truth and perspective. Help me to sit with You in the heavenly places.

Walking in Integrity Part 1
Integrity is living with singleness of heart
A useful example to illustrate the idea of integrity is to consider a 30-mph speed limit sign. It is always 30 mph when you pass by it. It does not vary with the time of day, the weather or is altered by whether it is a rich or poor person who is driving past.
Can we say today that we handle God’s word in such a way, uninfluenced by our mood, our health or with respect to who it is the has done something contrary to God’s word?
Do we say, yes, it is wrong for others to do this, but I do allow myself to do it!
There is a great temptation for Christians to indulge themselves and their families or friends when we ought to be confronting the situation in love and humility.
Nathan the prophet displayed great wisdom and integrity when he confronted David with his sins of adultery and murder. He did not let David’s position as king or the fact that he might be killed, stop him from confronting David.
Would you be willing to risk your life as a matter of integrity?
or how about a friendship or relationship? or even your popularity?
Too often believers give tacit approval to open sin by saying nothing just in case they might ruffle a few feathers!
God does not want us to have two sets of rules or standards either for ourselves or our loved ones.
There have been times in my life that I have let the Lord down and have not walked blamelessly before Him, but I am convinced that it is His will that we adopt a lifestyle with a singleness of heart before Him that is a lifestyle of integrity.
Definition of Integrity: The state of being complete or undivided [1]. Terms which occur in parallel with integrity (Hebrew tom, tomim) suggest it has shades of meaning including:
righteousness (Ps. 7:8).
uprightness (Ps. 25:21).
without wavering (Ps. 26:1).[2]
blameless (Ps. 101:2).[3]
Examples of persons of integrity
Here are five examples of Old Testament characters who were designated persons of integrity:
Noah (Gen. 6:9)
Abraham (Gen. 17:1)
Jacob (Gen. 25:27)
Job (Job 1:1,8; 2:3)
David (1 Kings 9:4)
English translations frequently render the underlying Hebrew as perfect or blameless. Perhaps the inclusion of Jacob is surprising since he is also known for his deceit.[4] English translators describe Jacob as a plain (KJV), or a peaceful, or a quiet man in other translations.[5]
New Testament
In the New Testament, integrity occurs only at Titus 2:7 in reference to teaching [6]. The idea of singleness of heart or mind however is frequent: see also Matthew 5:8; 6:22; James 1:7-8; 4:8.
Walking in integrity sets an example.
Proverbs 20:7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
The bible says, ‘train up a child in the way to go and when he is old, he will not depart from it’. One of the most effective ways of training people is by example! The parent who says do as I say but does not do it themselves is likely to exasperate his children.
What a legacy it is for our children when they see us consistently applying God’s word and ways in our day to day lives. They are doubly blessed, to see our example and to be free from the consequences of our otherwise disobedience to God.
When we walk in integrity, we are an example to the whole church.
It is a sad thing to see when a new believer sees an experienced believer compromise on God’s word and then tries to justify it, thus setting a bad example for the new believer.
This scripture will also apply to our ‘spiritual’ children, those recent converts who will follow our example of walking in integrity.
Their Christian walk will be blessed by our example.
Psalm 101:2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
Amen
Personal Prayer

Note
I saw your post on the KJV Bible- what’s your opinion on the NASB or Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)?
Do you listen to any John MacArthur sermons? Abner Chou? Paul Washer?
I wouldn't trust them one bit. With the LSB coming from the NASB, which came from the ASV, which uses the text from Westcott and Hort. Right there.....says everything.
I have not heard MacArthur, but looking him up (and chou and washer) and seeing his university, church, and that he has direct ties to the LSB, as well as other "study bibles" that came from Westcott and hort text, I would not trust him one bit either.
I'm not saying his sermons are total garbage, but the best con artists will always mix truth with the lie. The problem is, if you have your eyes in a Bible that comes from the corrupt line, you aren't going to know when you are being deceived. Personally, i would atop listening to these people and trash their bibles if i had them. But that is me, each person will have to make their own decision about it. And these are words I have had with my own family members who go to churches using the NIV, so I understand magnitude of the personal reflection on the matter, as well as the final decision.
But to put it into context next to other things, I will say this. We, as people, are so quick to stop shopping somewhere for either opposition or promotion of a social agenda that we do not agree with. We spend time to research and read reviews of products before we make a purchase. We turn our backs to celebrities, politicians, artists, and other people of influence if they say or do something we do not like. Sooooooooo why be so hesitant when you find out your Bible was written by ungodly people, or your preacher is teaching and giving Luke warm apostate sermons? Why would you NOT want to know where the book that you are using to understand and follow the teachings of Jesus? And if you found out that Bible is corrupt, why would you NOT run like hell from it? Is the quality of your purchases more important than your spiritual relationship with the Father?
Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34 KJV. That sword will cut between family, friends, churches. If you ask me, let that sword cut. Let it cut with swiftness. I know I will.
I hope this helps.

The Wise Woman
1 The wise woman builds her house, But the woman of folly tears it down with her own hands. 2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, But he who is devious in his ways despises Him. 3 In the mouth of the ignorant fool is a rod of lofty pride, But the lips of the wise will keep them. 4 Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie, But a false witness breathes out lies. 6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. 7 Leave the presence of a fool, As you have not known lips of knowledge there. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. 9 Ignorant fools scoff at guilt, But among the upright there is favor. 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its gladness.
11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, But the tent of the upright will flourish. 12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart may be in pain, And the end of joy may be grief. 14 The one who turns back in his heart will be satisfied with his ways, But a good man will be satisfied with his. 15 The simple believes everything, But the prudent one discerns his steps.
16 A wise man fears and turns away from evil, But a fool gets angry and feels secure. 17 A quick-tempered man acts in folly, And a man of evil schemes is hated. 18 The simple inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19 The evil will bow down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 20 The poor is hated even by his neighbor, But those who love the rich are many. 21 He who despises his neighbor sins, But how blessed is he who is gracious to the poor. 22 Will they not wander in error who devise evil? But lovingkindness and truth will be to those who devise good.
23 In all painful labor there is profit, But mere words from the lips lead only to want. 24 The crown of the wise is their riches, But the folly of fools is folly. 25 A truthful witness delivers souls, But he who breathes out lies is deceitful. 26 In the fear of Yahweh there is strong security, And his children will have refuge. 27 The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death. 28 In a multitude of people is a king’s splendor, But in the dearth of people is a prince’s ruin. 29 He who is slow to anger has great discernment, But he who is quick-tempered raises up folly. 30 A tranquil heart is life to the body, But jealousy is rottenness to the bones. 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him. 32 The wicked is thrust down by his own evil, But the righteous takes refuge even in his death. 33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, But in the midst of fools it is merely made known. 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. 35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts insightfully, But his fury is toward him who acts shamefully. — Proverbs 14 | Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation. Legacy Standard Bible, 2 Column Verse by Verse, Faux Leather.
Instead of writing about a feature, and then having a photograph inline, I’m changing it up a bit. I’ll have the write-up of my impression of this edition, and all of the photographs will be after. So if you simply want to look at the pictures you can skip all the text… You weren’t really going to do that were you? I mean… Seriously? You want to just look at pictures… Okay, I tend to do that too,…

Movie Review | The Image of Bruce Lee (Yang, 1978)
Tumblr media
Of the Bruceploitation stars, Bruce Li is probably the best actor, but his relative seriousness and respect for the real Bruce Lee's legacy mean that his movies often lacked the more eccentric charms of the genre. (There are exceptions. Bruce Lee in New Guinea features a romance between him and the princess of a snake worship tribe, who happens to have a martial artist gorilla.) You can see him ground the raw cynicism of The Chinese Stuntman and Soul Brothers of Kung Fu (the former of which he also directed), but those movies were good enough in a genuine sense to support his work. But in a movie like Goodbye Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death, you can see him struggle to breathe life into the rote material or make a case for why it might be preferable to watch him in this than to revisit one of the real Lee's movies.
It's a problem that also affects The Image of Bruce Lee AKA Storming Attacks. This one saddles him with a really generic crime plot, something to do with counterfeit money and diamonds and... I confess I watched this when I was pretty tired so I missed some of the details. It's probably my fault but I'm going to blame the movie, as I don't think delivered this material with much enthusiasm. There are the requisite fight scenes, and they're filmed well enough by the standards of the genre, but while Li is a talented martial artist, most of the action feels a bit too pedestrian, too perfunctory to make an impact. Only the climax, with its distinct stop-start rhythm, makes much of an impact. This final fight scene is doubly enjoyable because the lead actress Dana wears a cute sweater (featuring a dog with sunglasses) and kicks one of the bad guys in the balls. She follows this with a scene where she's pestered about her love life, makes a wife beating joke and gets a very awkward freeze frame to end the movie. Ten good minutes isn't enough to save a movie, but it's a start.
At this point I should mention that I went through three different YouTube uploads of the movie before I found a version with nudity. And maybe my sense of perspective has been destroyed by my interest in a certain genre, but there isn't even that much. I apologize if I sound like a degenerate here, but when the movie is doing this little for you on the whole, you take what you can get. As it says in the bible, "Judge not that ye not be judged."
I also must make reference to the production company credited on of the copies, "Goldig Films (H.K.) Ltd.". The logo and name bear a suspicious resemblance to Golden Harvest, while the accompanying fanfare sounds a lot like the music for Shaw Brothers. The logo suggests you'll get the best of both worlds, but the movie does not deliver.

Peace Be Unto You!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Peace Be Unto You!"
John 20: 19-31
"On the first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst a 'Peace be unto you. . .' John 20:1-5
The disciples were afraid, they were in grief, and Thomas still doubting, fighting among themselves, and there was unrest in the country around them; Jesus calmly came into the room, and said, "Peace be unto you!" calling each one to center their lives on him, and in that focusing only on Jesus Thomas proclaimed him his "Lord, and God!"
In the top photo, and the first half of the second referring to "Christian Nationalism" we find pain, unrest, and death; two nights ago sitting on the street, I noticed a group of men, passing our Biblical tracts, and talking to homeless young men. One walked towards me and I stood up and before I could open my mouth he shouted, "You are doomed to hell, the Bible says that all fags are going to hell," and he hit me and two others joined in. As I was loaded into an ambulance one of the youngish homeless guys rushed up grabbing my hand saying: "How can you be a Christian, Christians hate us, condemn us, and kill us.! That is a question I ask myself really a lot, and my answer always comes back to focusing on Jesus, the One who has walked with me through hell all these years. Jesus, I love, adore, and worship! The Jesus I find in the Church is often one who is sluggish, mean, judgmental and hateful. The Jesus presented by human beings with so much hatred in their hearts they fail to hear his real message, "Peace be unto you!"
The Revised Standard Version of the Bible, was translated in 1946, and some of the New Testament passages used the word"homosexuality",
a word created in the early twentieth century. The Bible, being two thousand years old, never had the word within it, and its views on sexuality are based on a culture living over two thousand years ago.
That translation, the one I grew up with, used in seminary, and preached from for so many years often disturbed me, until I discovered in Greek class, that homosexuality, was not within the translation, it was a mistranslation, used probably by people who were homophobic. It is a translation that has led to the persecution and death of many. In the New Revised Standard, EU version the word has been removed, and a more accurate correction has been made.
I am mad as hell against those who beat me up, but never can I hate them, want to hurt them, for the truth is they "know not what they do!
My sister has not talked to me in years because I do not know the "right Jesus", and am "queer!"
The Jesus I know, the Jesus who has "saved" me in years of rejection, hate, and ridicule, is the One Henrin Nouwen speaks of:
.. For Jesus, there are only women and children and men  to be loved. ."
In the coming months, we will hear much very loud and screaming talk from our brothers and sisters who are Christian Nationalists demanding control and power, and with views that are racist and hate-giving.
We often live on the edge of darkness through our fears so let us now come home:
You know so very well the edge of darkness you have always carried with you.
You know so very well, your childhood legacy:
that particular, inherited sense of hurt, given to you so freely by the world you entered.
And you know too well by now
the body’s hesitation at the invitation to undo everything others seemed to want to make you learn.
But your edge of darkness has always made its own definition secretly as an edge of light
and the door you closed might, by its very nature be one just waiting to be leant against and opened.
And happiness might just be a single step away, on the other side of that next unhelpful and undeserving thought.
Your way home, understood now, not as an achievement, but as a giving up, a blessed undoing, an arrival in the body and a full rest in the give and take of the breath.
This living breathing body always waiting to greet you at the door, always prepared to give you the rest you need, always, no matter the long years away, still wanting you, to come home. — David Whyte, “The Edge You Carry With You,” from Still Possible
My prayer is that many will join me loudly in  the light every day of the year and hit the streets, "with a gift of self-sacrificial love asking us to take up our crosses and love others in the way of Jesus hearing Jesus speak to us, with a smile, and love in his eyes, "Peace be unto you!"
Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!

Prayer of St. Brendan!
"Help me to journey beyond the familiar
and into the unknown.
Give me the faith to leave old ways and break fresh ground with You. Christ of the mysteries I trust in You to be stronger than each storm within me.
I will trust in the darkness and know that my times, even now, are in Your hands.
Tune my spirit to the music of heaven,
and somehow, make my obedience count for You"

April 12th--Day of (No) Silence 2024: Rise Up. Take Action!
History of Day of (No) Silence: Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, Day of Silence has expanded to reach hundreds of thousands of students each year. Every April, students would go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies to bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.
2024 Day of (No) Silence: With more than 800 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced last year, we must Rise Up and Take Action. GLSEN’s Day of NO Silence is a nationally recognized student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country—and the world— protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.

The estate of the late Sinéad O’Connor has denounced Donald Trump’s use of the singer-songwriter’s performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” at his campaign rallies. Trump most recently played the song at events in Maryland and North Carolina in the past week.
In a statement to Variety, O’Connor’s estate and label Chrysalis Records demanded that Trump cease playing the song immediately.
“Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards her fellow human beings. It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ at his political rallies,” the statement reads. “It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil.’ As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.”

Old Songs of Love and Passion, New Songs of Faith
By Jon Pareles Oct. 25, 2007
Sinead O’Connor dressed like a pop star, in a dapper black suit, when she performed at the Beacon Theater on Tuesday night. She also, after avoiding them for years, returned to some of the songs that made her a star as the 1980s ended. But she didn’t project a star’s charisma. In songs about passion and righteousness, loss and truth, she came across as oddly halfhearted.
She started with “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” her take on newfound fame and romantic turmoil from the 1990 album “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” and went on to sing most of that album’s other songs.
Her last two decades haven’t been smooth ones. “I apologize for the world being cruel to you,” one fan shouted between songs. Ms. O’Connor blazed out of Ireland in the late 1980s, had a worldwide hit with the Prince song “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1990, provoked a furious backlash by tearing up a photograph of the pope on “Saturday Night Live” in 1992, and turned to other people’s songs — standards, reggae, British folk ballads — between sporadic albums of her own increasingly devout works.
Her old songs, like her newer ones, merge the Celtic ballad tradition with rock and African- diaspora beats, particularly reggae. Her band included fiddle and Irish whistle; her voice takes its bite, quaver and leaping ornaments from ancient Celtic style. Then and now, her lyrics are concerned most of all with integrity as they ponder mortality and trust.
But where Ms. O’Connor’s old songs revolved around love and passion, her newer ones are about faith; her most recent album, “Theology” (Koch), builds lyrics on Bible passages.
Many of the old songs also have something she has all but abandoned: choruses. Her newer songs roll ahead, verse after verse, replacing the landmarks and contrasts of pop structure with the regular ripples of incantation. There’s less drama in theology than in lust and betrayal.
In both kinds of songs, Ms. O’Connor’s band forged sturdy crescendos. But for some reason, Ms. O’Connor was reluctant to exploit them. She sang with downcast eyes, often appearing distracted; at times she resembled Van Morrison, who’s usually determined not to be a showman. She backed off the heartbroken peak of “Nothing Compares 2 U” and half-swallowed the surprise ending — a breakup that leaves her scarred but stronger — in the anthemic “Thank You for Hearing Me.”
Perhaps it was a matter of technical problems; Ms. O’Connor fiddled throughout the set with her in-ear monitor, her P.A. system kept losing one channel and she was handed an out-of-tune guitar for an encore. Her old lambent intensity emerged in a four-part a cappella version of “In This Heart” and a slow-burn “Last Day of Our Acquaintance.” But now that she has reclaimed her best songs, she should make the most of them.
