Oh @exileandtrust~ Do you think your archer could be friends with this grumpy kitty? XD

youtube
Background Story: Originally a captain of the guard in charge of protecting the small humble village of Hilgarvik, located under the icy tundra of Namdia, Defiant Sea led a small platoon consisting mostly of those who she grew up and attended bootcamp with. Every soldier was a man, woman and creature she knew by name, and together they fought bandits and beasts alike, all to protect the small village they all called home.
Amongst her platoon were her two childhood friends, Gellir the human, and her lifelong crush Arnleif the Half-Elf, who both called her Dee-Sea.
However, in a cruel twist of fate, Arnleif betrayed Defiant Sea and her entire village when he brought with him an entire gang of bandits and assassins to lay siege on the village and burn it all down, all to simply reach the nobleman's home in the heart of the village and steal the treasured relic inside. Thousands were slaughtered, including many of those Defiant knew since youth. But, with the village still under her oath of protection, she faced off against Arnleif in the manor of the nobleman and the two fought while the flames engulfed the village all around them.
It took a blind fit of rage for Defiant to defeat Arnleif, and by the time she sensed the battle's end, it was too late to fix anything... Arnleif fell on top of her with her blade plunged through his gut, and as he died she held him close and whispered her confession of love to him, knowing that she could never forgive herself for this but at least her secrets would die with him... or so she thought.
When the flames finally settled and the village began its rebuilding effort, Defiant fled from her village and headed to the mainland... to Kernai. For the next few years, she would train to hone her skills to become a Fighter, using her Namdian bloodborne gift of elemental control to become an ice based Spellblade user, all to end up as a mere mercenary for hire under the alias of Oriesi, no longer wishing connect herself to her past or her defining name.
One such job required her to journey to the Emerald Valley alongside a happy-go-lucky human woman, a grumpy, drunken Dwarf and a Fire Genasi noble, to a village plagued by creatures of nightmares simply referred to as Abominations, and the star-fallen Spire of obsidian and black flames that mass produce these Abominations to attack and kidnap the villagers. It is now up to Orisesi and her makeshift band to fend of these nightly raids and figure out the secrets to the Dark Spire.

Law of the Valiant Ramblings: Part 1
Story/Campaign Location
So... I have some OCs I really need to put out there, just to prove that I'm not entirely obsessed with Transformers... well, only a little. 馃槄 I've been benching this project of mine for some time now due to how complex and vast it is, but now I feel like I can finally work on it again.
In short, it's a novel I've been working on for a long time now, called "Law of the Valiant: The Bronzemoon Legacy" and it's going to be a series of books, if it ever does become more than just a personal project and turn into an actual original story to be published somewhere.
Luckily, this is a shared project I've been hammering away at with my boyfriend for the last 3-5 years, out of the 6 we've been together... it really says something about how impactful DND is, doesn't it? 卢w卢 But it all thanks to him, in the end! He helped me create my own character, how to understand the rules of DnD, and because I have no one to really play a session with, we created our own campaign, mainly based on our very own homebrewed world and races. It's gotten so big, we literally created an entire pantheon that has different deities based on the races and cultures of the entire world, alongside how each island/country is run.
So... screw it. I'm gonna infodump about it here and see where it takes me. Enjoy the long read!! Also, @tigracespace , @exileandtrust , or anyone else with a DnD AU or OC, you're more than welcome to take snippets of this lore if it'll help you in any way! 馃グ Just give credit where it's due!
(Also yes, I signed the picture to prevent any eejits from taking it for themselves, since this is actually my BFs casual work. We worked too hard on this together for it to be used without my consent! 馃が)

For this post, I'll start with the world that "Law of the Valiant" takes place in.....
The campaign/story occurs within a world that mainly consists of islands clustered at the tail of the Valian Empire, with the biggest island being the land of Kernai. For convenient purposes, when referring to everything you see on this map as a collective, the entire world can also be called Kernai, only because most of the action occurs on that island.
Moving in a clockwise manner, we'll start on the bottom left corner of the map to describe each island within the vast world shown here...
Leviathan's Veil: Said to be the birthplace of the world's magic, as well as the original home to the dragons and magical fauna that now inhabit the rest of the world, the floating islands are eternally shrouded in mists that force any who foolishly approach by boat or airship to turn back towards the mainland, no matter the mechanical tools or magical help they use to ensure their path keeps towards the floating archipelago. But even if they do find the means of passing through the protective magical fog, they will soon learn why these floating islands are only accessible by air, and why the entire area, mainly the shielding mists, are called Leviathan's Veil...
Soultorn Isle: At the heart of this craggy island, where it is said that one's lifeforce is drained from you upon setting foot on its cold, granular surface, dwells a tower that serves as a dark omen to any who are foolish enough to approach this island. For deep within its dark, skyward walls are its prisoners... the Mind Flayers, once an advanced civilization that had originally conquered all of Kernai and its inhabitants to become their willing slaves. No one remembers what led to their disappearance into the depths of the prison tower, but what they do know is that any who dare make it across the island and into the tower are never seen again.
Namdia: A land purely made of rock and ice, only those who's bodies and spirits are equal in strength have any chance at surviving on this island... And yet the fur-cladded (Viking-like) humans and Tabaxi who call this place their home have since thrived in their underground kingdom, one that is run by traditions consisting of the use of steam pipes built by their Dwarven founders, trade with their neighbors only ever performed on the icy tundra above their kingdom to ensure its secrecy, and their practiced use of control over the embodying elements of the island, of earth, fire and water.
Thesbia: Thousands of years ago the island was once home to the mountain-sized Giants, that is until the arrival of the first humans, the earliest known instance after "The Great Divide" that would split the world between humans and humanoids. Now, only their human-hybrid descendants, the clan-armored Titans (who now only reach under 10 feet in height), remain as the sole protectors of their ancestral home. Roaming the island with their swords and axes in hand, they live alongside the savannah dwelling Leonin, the forest based Centaurs, the mountain clambering Minotaurs, and many other humans and humanoids in the Greek-Romanesque kingdom. The inhabitants of Thesbia, mainly the once colonial and explorative Leonin, are mostly known for their hand in the creation of the magic barrier that keeps out the northern chill from half the island, caused by a war that destroyed the upper half of the island and turned it into the three sectors split by climate... the warm south, the icy mountain split, and the magically-created desert north.
Torbroch: An island entirely inhabited by Orc and Goblin tribes, it is under the rule of the xenophobic and prideful Order of the Four Fangs, who guide the chieftains and leaders of the tribes and punish any who trespass on the island or form a half-breed offspring with one of the tribe folk with the death penalty.
Valia/The Valian Empire: The "Cradle of Humanity" and the deathbed of Kernai's magic, Valia is a country ruled by the iron fist of Emperor Solias Valis and the (Victorian) caste based culture of science and steam-powered machinery, all at the cost of free will for the lesser populace and the prejudice against magic and the people outside the empire's rule. Under the city of Valiento dwells a city of criminals, undesirables (aka humanoids and disabled folk alike) and forgotten Warforged, struggling to get by day by day in the eternal twilight of the city, a city only known as the Hive. It is run by the Upper Guards, those sent by the Emperor himself to control the "beastly folk", with the elite amongst them being the Lightning Riders and the Plague Bearers, as well as a few notable gangs who run the underbelly of the Hive, such as the Azumites and the Warforged Time Lords. There's even word of a Warforged who wanders within the Hive, built to embody the Emperor in his younger days and act as his second hand, with a mind containing all his memories but without any of the human need for fear or fatigue. This project is known only as The Emperor's Shadow.
Azuma: Once a prosperous and bountiful oriental kingdom, Azuma was governed by an Emperor named Daijo Ori'ai alongside his Council of Lords, who in turn governed each major city across the island kingdom. Some years ago, Azuma was conquered by the Valian Empire as Emperor Solias enslaved the kingdom to fund his research into understanding Kernai's magic for his use. As insurance against a rebellion, Solias stole the Daijo's youngest heir, Prince Ai'Maketa, and made him a guinea pig for his assistant, the amortal alchemist Doctor Blanca Nyx. The young prince is still trapped in Valia, bound by Blanca's binding runes branded onto him that ensnares his own elemental power and ability to escape, while unbeknownst to him the kingdom of Azuma now lies in ruin, nothing more than a barren wasteland of ash and death after the successful test of Solias's newest weapon.
Hell's Gate: A haven for pirates and fleeing rogues alike, the archipelago consists entirely of sharp rocks between barely habitable islands, making travel by boat near impossible to those who do not frequent its protective harbor. One island, however, lies deep within its craggy clutches, and is home to the Pirate Matron.
Kilvaani's Rest: Home to the Scholar's Academy, the Great Library, and one of the biggest temples to the God of Knowledge, Kindness and the Four Winds, Aeori; this small kingdom is ruled by the last Tiefling of noble blood, Princess Lyria, who survived one of the Empire's many early crusades across Kernai in its attempt to control the land of Kernai. Since then, Kilvaani's Rest has become walled off against any who are not proven scholars in pursuit of humble and peaceful knowledge, earning the kingdom's nickname of the Fortress College.
The Khanaran Desert: Home to the struggling Tieflings of the small, and the only place that's habitable, village of Aesyir (the rest being scattered across the island of Kernai), the slaver Nagas of Cathargo and the pyramid temple to Akri, the prosperous and proud Aarakocra of the northwestern city of Aerkin, and the Dragon Rider clans on their side of the Silverthroat Mountains. It was here that the once white sands were turned red from the multitude of wars fought, between the earliest civilization of Dwarves and Tieflings (who would later establish their first kingdoms at the end of this war, later to be known as the Khanaran War) against their former masters of the Demon Court, Prince Oxarus the Eternal Flame and Thogodius the Fool; between the once prosperous Tiefling and Naga kingdoms, a war that drove both kingdoms to ruin and forced both races into a dwindling memory of their former selves; the more recent war between the Dragon Riders and the forces of the Valian Empire, one that has brought ruin to the desert through the glass forests and graveyards of airship and dragon skeletons.
The Emerald Valley/The Kingdom of Whitecliff: Consisting entirely of lush farmland, homely villages, outposts for stationed guards to help protect the region, some villas and vineyards for the nobility, and the ancestral Mathaerin Forest, the last part of the once towering forest that covered the entirety of the valley before The Great Divide. This region is ruled by two governing bodies rather than just one kingdom; the imperial capital city of Whitecliff, and the Agrarian Council, consisting entirely of farmers and important members of the community per village all across the Valley. While the council does report to the king of Whitecliff, it is a symbiotic relationship of equal trade of labor and fair pay in exchange for peace and safety. This safety comes in the form of Whitecliff's elite knights, known as The Emerald Guard, who follow a strict code and seven years worth of training before being stationed in one of the many outposts across the Emerald Valley. To ensure that the Emerald Guards never bring fear or harm to the people, the royal court mages created a curse on the armour of every guard who graduates from training that would only ever activate the moment the curse's words came true...
"Only the blood of tainted hearts may touch the green you wear. For if your plating should turn black, their weight in blood you shall forever bear."
It is also here where the story begins, in the small farming village of Alentou, built to support travelling farmers and merchants journeying to and from the capital or Hammerdeep and the forest city of . Quiet and dull, the lakeside village has everything one could need to live a humble country life, including the tavern known as the Daisy Djinn Inn, owned and run by a retired Rune Knight-Fighter Mountain Dwarf named Maddie Bronzemoon-Diazerae, and her entire family... consisting of her adoptive Elven mage sister and co-owner, Daisy Bronzemoon, Maddie's Rogue-Ranger Tiefling husband, Calder Bronzemoon-Diazerae, alongside their seven children; Bula Bronzemoon-Diazerae (Calder's half-orc daughter from a past relationship with a Torbroch chieftain's daughter), Garth Silverfang, Layla Bluemoon, Daisy's twins Raevyrn and Allora, Wren and baby Lorelai. More will be explained about those in orange in the next post...
The Silverthroat Mountains: At the foot of the mountains, on the western side, resides the great Mathaerin Forest, home to the High and Wood Elves, Centaurs, canine Leshen, forest spirits, and a plethora of both dangerous and docile magical fauna hidden within the protective tress of old. Deeper still within the forest, you will find trees that nearly reach half the height of the mountains, wider than any standard house, and their trunks containing the ruins of the very first homes of the ancient Erikeans who lived in early Kernai. But at the heart of this forest lies the High Elven capital, Silvervale. None are permitted to enter its stronghold walls unless they are merchants with an invite from the Mathaerkin/Matron Queen, a badly injured person on the brink of death seeking refuge (which by their code they must offer help but with tight security to ensure none are harmed while they are within their walls), or a fellow Elf.
If you travel along a path hidden within the forest, only known by those with experience journeying to this location, you will come across your first obstacle through the mountains... the Dragon Riders. Clans consisting of many mixed races but all bearing the exact same defining features that unite them as their own separate kingdom and community, of scales along their arms, back and cheeks, reptilian eyes, and never without their loyal dragon steeds to help protect their mountain home. The clans are divided into two based on where they live... the western Glacial tribe that help protect the Emerald Valley from large or country-wide threats such as delivering goods to help alleviate a famine or defend the mountain path against any Valian spies, and the eastern Sun tribe who continue to fend off the Valian Emperor's men from the shores of the Eastern Gap and their side of the mountain path through the Khanaran Desert.
However, if you manage to get by the Dragon Rider guards and follow the path to the largest mountain within the Silverthroat range, you will finally come to the grand stone gates of the underground Dwarven kingdom, arriving first to its capital city of Hammerdeep. Rocky structures made with golden details and steam pipes will be the first thing you see, alongside a bustling market as far as the eye can see, for Hammerdeep is the true heart of all crafter based trade within Kernai, mainly jewelers, stonecarvers, and the biggest trade being sword and blacksmithing. The city is run by a family-clan based hierarchy, while the rest of the kingdom is ruled by a council made up of the most powerful and providing clans, much like Whitecliff and its agricultural council. The largest and most influential clan are the Bronzemoons, the surviving descendants of Hammerdeep's heroic founder, Boic "Bravesoul" Bronzemoon, and one of the best family of blacksmiths and swordsmiths due to their use of runework and artistic craftsmanship, with their emblem being a bronze Celtic knot style crescent moon branded on anything they create.
~*~
And that's the world of Kernai for you! Sorry for this being so long, but as you can tell a LOT of work has gone into this over the years. So feel free to tell me your thoughts on how I could improve this, and enjoy the fruits of the labor my boyfriend and I have created together. And eventually I'll get around to posting about the OCs for this world, including my boyfriend's character, Calder~
Thank you so much for reading. ^w^

Law of the Valiant Ramblings: Part 2-C (The First to Join the Party/The Medic)
Finally, I can reveal the best characters in the party... the literal killers! 馃ぃ I loved writing this so much, so I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do!!
Also here's her character sheet... cause DAMN I rolled them good!! Stats
~*~
(Viscountess) Doctor Beatrix Elizabeth Grenville
- Valian Human
- Chaotic-Good
- Field Medic, Surgeon, Assassin, Fencer
- Widowed Viscountess from Valian Empire's high society, Secretly enjoys murder, Searches for her assassin lover (calls him "my sweet raven")
"Once you've ceased your hollering about that measly broken bone, you are welcome to refer to me as Doctor Beatrix in a more civil manner, or simply Doc' if you are yet another linguistical dullard... like so many I have met thus far. I should be more than willing to lend my skill in aiding you, however I would advice that you heed my words carefully... for should you partake in the mockery of my presence once more, I shall make certain that your insistent desire of a swift end be met at your autopsy, for only I know of the reversal to all known types of feigned death."
~ Beatrix upon meeting any rude patients.
(First picture is my own drawing, created YEARS ago. Second pic is a placeholder to show what she looks like in travelling attire and without her mask, which she rarely takes off when she's performing surgery or medical care.)

Backstory:
Born as Lady Beatrix Elizabeth Du Capet, an only child and heiress to one of the many Barons and Baronesses of the Valian Empire, she grew up under the spotlight due to her parents constantly bragging about her achievements at every weekly party they would host and claiming her every personal achievement as theirs or something they taught her to do. But as an heiress, she was forced since her earliest days to follow every Valian noble tradition befitting of her gender and place in high society.
Knowing that her worth was merely to be a bargaining chip for a rich Earl or Duke's dowry, Beatrix instead focused on ensuring she could have a life for herself while living as a trophy wife, and soon found her passion for medical practice and her dream of becoming a doctor. This would be quickly proven impossible due to the Empire's patriarchal system deeming women only suitable for domestic lives and assistant roles, alongside the public mockery and their greed for the limelight her parents would force her through as she began to pursue her dream in secret.
That is, until her father arranged for her to marry an old and sickly Viscount, granting the Baron a large dowry in exchange for the chance to climb higher up the social ladder through Beatrix. At first, the young heiress wanted nothing to do with this arranged marriage to someone old enough to be her grandfather, but when she finally met Viscount Solomon Grenville, she was surprised to know him as a kind and gentle soul, one who was a doctor at a prestige university no less. Finally seeing a way to obtain her dream, she willingly married the old Viscount, her new title now being Viscountess Beatrix Grenville.
During their honeymoon, Beatrix revealed to Solomon about her dream of being a doctor, despite society's views on women preventing her from achieving it. Thinking he would mock her as so many had before, Solomon instead offered her a proposition... If she donned a disguise and pretended to be their adopted son, to ensure all gossip of an heir to his name were silenced, Beatrix could then attend classes at the university and gain her doctorate in peace. And should the day come that he finally succumbs to his illness, then she would inherit both his wealth and his status, not just as a noble but as the Doctor Grenville. However... Beatrix could only gain this if she also accepted the help of a bodyguard and a dear friend of his from long ago, one who he ensured would come as promised in his letter and protect her from the cruelty of the nobility, the moment Solomon's health should turn for the worse... and all without the need to perform her duties as a wife, including the consummation of their marriage.
She accepted without hesitation, and thus, two months after returning to begin her life as a trophy wife, she began her secret life of a student enrolled under the name of Sir Ben Grenville, recently adopted teenage son of Solomon and Beatrix Grenville. And for a time, it all worked out, as "Ben" would learn the ways of medical care through Solomon's own classes and go on to graduate within the year, gain a doctorate in surgery and become a resident medical student at one of the many leading hospitals of Valia, all while Beatrix would mostly come out at night to attend parties her parents would host and represent herself as a busy Viscountess to ensure none suspected her disappearances during the day. But eventually, despite her best efforts in helping his dwindling strength, Solomon passed away, and at his funeral Beatrix's secret came out as she was revealed to be the mysteriously successful doctor. However, as stated within his will and honeymoon vow, the Viscount left her with a lifetime's worth of fortune and the regal rights befitting a widowed Viscountess, which in turn brought the security of his title as a legally practicing doctor now within Beatrix's possession, earning her the untouchable right to be the Empire's first female doctor. As thanks, Beatrix kept his name and proudly announced herself to the world as Doctor Beatrix Grenville, instead of returning to her family name, to honour his memory.
Just as she had promised, she met her new bodyguard while drinking on the balcony at the funeral reception her parents were hosting, drowning out the booming laughter of the ballroom and the anger she felt as she listened to her father brag about how he taught Beatrix the ways of medical care, all while he openly mocked Solomon for being too old to even lift a pen, let alone a scalpel. Rage filled Beatrix's heart, as she downed her fifth drink of that night, and as if hearing her inner thoughts of bloodthirst a new voice spoke from beside her, one that was rich and velvety with noble etiquette and charm, while somehow bringing with it a sense of spine-chilling threat that made Beatrix feel like a rabbit under the gaze of a starving wolf.
"If the Lord Baron is the cause of your discomfort, then say the word and I shall be rid of this stain on your mind. A true Lord should never be the source of strife for an already burdened lady, let alone one of such prestige as yours, my dear doctor."
Turning to meet the stranger, a hand already reaching behind her to feel where the cheese knife was, Beatrix came face to face with the masked visage of a much taller cane-wielding gentleman in a hybrid attire of a nobleman and an assassin. Only one name came to mind when she recognized the sinister aura this stranger held, alongside the tattered embroidered corvid emblem on his jacket breast pocket... the shamed Baron turned untraceable assassin, Sir Enoch Harold Bennett...
"You... A-are you the Raven Killer?" She asked in a voice barely above a feeble whisper.
Despite every fiber of her being screaming at her to use the knife on the now intimately close nobleman and flee, Beatrix found herself caught staring deeply into the exposed amber eyes under the mask of this famed killer. She remained frozen even as his chest touched hers, seemingly in his reach for something, for the moment she detected the faint traces of musty copper off his neck, she suddenly felt her heart racing from not only fear but something new, something she had never felt even while courting suitors before forming her platonic pact with Solomon. Was it the thrill of facing danger for the first time? Was it the alcohol finally kicking in at the worst possible moment, despite her mental clarity? He could very well end her life this very night, she knew this was the reason for her fear... Yet why couldn't she stop her racing heart and this heat rising to her now blushing face? No answers came to mind, even while racking through her medical knowledge, and yet more questions came crashing in when Enoch suddenly bowed on one knee and took the hand she used to reach for the knife behind her to press against the mouth of his mask, his gloved touch so gentle and patient of her stiff discomfort it stole Beatrix's breath away. His golden eyes glanced up to her before he spoke once more,
"That is what they call me, my dear doctor. Though it would be of less hinderance if you could refer to me by my true name... Of which I know my old family friend revealed to you when he first called you his wife, did he not?"
"How do you know-" Before Beatrix could inquire further, the doors to the balcony opened as a butler stepped out in search of the Viscountess. As soon as the light from the ballroom spilled out, Enoch had vanished, leaving Beatrix alone with the butler and her racing heart.
The years soon passed, and Dr. Beatrix Grenville was now a name even the highest of nobility knew of, most of whom uttered with disdain, for it was known not only in Valia but in its poverty stricken underbelly, the underground city known only as The Hive. For that is where Beatrix opened her first clinic using the wealth Solomon left behind, to ensure that none could be turned away from the medical care every man, woman and child could need, no matter their appearance or birthright. During these few years before the grand opening of the Hive-based clinic, which was mostly spent in preparation and gaining the legal rights to build it, Enoch served his duty as bodyguard well, even if it was always from the shadows. Any who attempted to harm her while she was out in public were quickly pulled away the moment Beatrix passed by an alley, and any who would attempt the same thing while in a crowd would immediately slink away the moment they caught sight of those amber eyes under a white eerie mask from up on a rooftop or in a hidden corner of a street.
And while she prepared for her clinic's business to open, Beatrix gained her very first official uniform, of a black dress with a white apron and a plague doctor's mask, the standard issued attire of an Imperial doctor. The mask, however, became something she would enjoy wearing while visiting friends and family who would call for her aid as a doctor, to the point that Enoch would find inspiration from this mask and soon began to affectionately call her "songbird" when he wished to speak to her somewhere private when out in public, often through whispering to beckon her over or mimicked whistles of her favourite bird.
During the nights since their first meeting, to ensure she was truly safe when alone or in public, Enoch would visit her in her mansion home and teach her all he knew on swordsmanship and how to truly wield a blade, with Beatrix's preference being the rapier. The lessons would stretch until the dawn, and the more frequently he visited her the longer the lessons became, even after he had taught her everything he knew on fencing and self-defense. As the years rolled on and the building of the clinic finally began, the visits became less about the lessons and more of idle chats in the library or study, and every time the dawn came their exchanges would always end with a kiss on the cheek from either noble, always edging closer to their lips than the previous night's farewell, with one such parting bringing a rush of courage through Beatrix that enabled her to move the Raven Killer's iconic mask and reveal the lower half of his face and mustache. Before the assassin could attempt to politely ask her to let his mask go, her lips were upon his in an instant, pulling him back inside to share a moment of passionate and deep connection, and yet neither one could stop until his eventual departure that afternoon.
The first week after Beatrix's clinic opened, news began to spread of her father commissioning a clinic of his own, built to "help the unfortunates of Valia" while also sending letters pointing out every flaw of his opposition in an attempt to forcibly shut down Beatrix's own clinic. Knowing it would only take a matter of time before she would snap, Enoch began giving Beatrix a new form of lessons to help her regulate her anger. First it was nights out hunting wild game to show her how to shoot a gun, then teaching her how to skin and prepare the animal for food or a trophy display. The targeted beasts grew bigger with each lesson, allowing Enoch to teach her the true ways of an assassin, making the once petite doctor develop a physique that was stronger, faster, on par in battle with Enoch, until the day came that Enoch brought her a new target, hidden away in an attic of an abandoned building.... a bound and muffled Valian lesser nobleman. One who was known for his cruelty towards the inhabitants of the Hive city, of his enjoyment in abusing his staff, especially those who weren't Valian or human. Unrolling her tool of medical practice, he offered her one final lesson... how to be rid of those who do not value life.
One by one, lesser nobles began to vanish from the Imperial city, all the while Beatrix's clinic grew as her skills improved with each passing week. Gossip amongst the socialites whispered of the Raven Killer's return, whose methods always followed this sort of pattern, but not a single noble ever considered the doctor who performed the autopsies to be the true suspect, for none could even fathom that each fallen noble held the single connection of xenophobic cruelty within their ranks, blurring the line between the good and the corrupt. The news came that afternoon, on the day Baron de Capet's clinic was to open and become a rival to Beatrix's charity clinic. Her father left that morning to cut the ribbon and officially open his business, entirely run by Imperial doctors for those strictly of noble birth, but none of his servants received any word of his arrival. For by that late afternoon, his body was found in the ruins of a blood-soaked attic, badly beaten and tortured before a stab in the throat ended his reign, and the Raven Killer slipping away right as the royal guard gave chase.
Enoch was quickly captured and imprisoned in the palace, where he was sentenced to death by the Imperial House of Lords without trial. However, due to an anonymous paid tip, Enoch's sentence was changed when he was put on public trial to instead be banished from the Empire to "the feral lands" of Kernai. When asked how he pleaded, Enoch simply stated with a smirk, "I only wish I had more time to be with my songbird".
Guilt over Enoch's banishment in her place drove Beatrix into a deep depression, the quiet only helping to smooth over the mass murders left in her wake and allowing the Empire to forget what others would surely consider the greatest brand to tarnish her soul... but was in fact her greatest pride. But without Enoch, what use did she have for this pride? Without her mentor and protective "raven", she struggled to find meaning in her work, now unable to keep her workforce afloat from the grief and worry she felt. Until she had an idea, when someone mentioned a possible branching of her business to help increase her income.... And instead handed her clinic to a close friend within the Hive before leaving on the first ship to Kernai, bringing with her all her belongings and a caravan of employees and tents that would become her travelling clinic. As proud as she was lending her skills to those who needed her, and allowing her to truly see the world beyond the Empire's fortressed walls and propaganda, Beatrix only had one motive in mind... to find her exiled lover.
Help would be found where she least expected it, when on her journey through the south of the Emerald Valley she would encounter a group of other exiled Valians, all of them now reduced to nothing but bandits and thugs, who were all fighting against a Tiefling and a Dwarf. Knowing this could be her chance at gaining information on Enoch's whereabouts, she jumped right in and helped the Tiefling and the Dwarf defeat the Valians, leaving only one captured to interrogate. But when he held no answers or knew who Enoch was, Beatrix killed him before he could attempt to kill her first in his attempt to escape, knowing that he would have shared what he knew about a woman looking for the Raven Killer and possibly put her beloved in danger. The Tiefling then approached the Valian doctor, thanking her for helping them out, but was suddenly interrupted when Beatrix pointed to his arm.
"You have a deep laceration on your shoulder, mere inches away from the major axillary... It will require stitches and an immediate cleaning of the wound if this is left untreated. I have the tools here to treat you right now, free of charge of course, if you will let me."
"Oh... Thanks, but I'm good."
"Calder! Let the kind woman treat ya! It's not every day that you meet a medic who can fight! Also you're bleeding, ya daft blind yolk!" The ginger Dwarf, Maddie, snapped at the Tiefling.
It took some more convincing from the Dwarf, but eventually the Tiefling sat on a tree stump and allowed Beatrix to fix him up, using a numbing liquid used only in Valia to help him through the pain during the stitching of his cut arm. In exchange, Beatrix inquired about a masked Valian, keeping the details to a minimum, and asked if she could join them on their journey to the mountains to find a safe way through them into the desert for her search there. With a medic on their side, they knew it would be a lot easier to get through both the Elves and the Dragon Rider's territory unscathed, and she did have her caravan of tents, therefore giving them shelter with every camp they would set up....
And so, Beatrix joined the party, accompanying Calder and Maddie on their quest to Ayseir while attempting her own search for the exiled killer she loved.

Me right now, writing about my DnD Steampunk doctor bird lady:
Tumblr media
"...A new voice spoke from beside her, one that was rich and velvety with noble etiquette and charm, while somehow bringing with it a sense of spine-chilling threat that made Beatrix feel like a rabbit under the gaze of a starving wolf."
"She remained frozen even as his chest touched hers, seemingly in his reach for something, for the moment she detected the faint traces of musty copper off his neck, she suddenly felt her heart racing from not only fear but something new..."
"He could very well end her life this very night, she knew this was the reason for her fear... Yet why couldn't she stop her racing heart and this heat rising to her now blushing face?"
Tumblr media
馃ぃ This is why I love being a writer. It's moments like these where I'm reminded of how much fun it is to write stuff that's right at the edge of SFW material~ But yes, this will all be included in my nearly completed bio for my next DnD OC, Dr. Beatrix Grenville~
I just really needed to make a meme out of my current experience right now. XD
Oh and @exileandtrust, do you experience this when you're writing Handprints? 馃ぃ Please tell me I'm not the only one doing this exact face when writing scenes where sparks start flying between two characters?

Law of the Valiant Ramblings: Part 2-B (The Love Interest/Rogue-Shadow Ranger)
This character belongs to my boyfriend (aka my darling starlight~), who is currently playing as him in his own DnD adventures right now. ;3 So I proudly display this character in his honour, to show just how amazing he is at story writing, despite his claims of not being a writer. ;D
I'm so proud of you, Starlight. Thank you for allowing me to show your awesome work to the world!
Calder Bronzemoon-Diazerae (ne茅 Diazerae) - Tiefling (Age 47, has a slightly longer but very human lifespan) - Chaotic-Good (Cheeky little shit but a gentleman) - Rogue-Shadow Ranger, Champion of the Tiefling God, King Thyvir - Honorary DILF, Has a female wolf companion named Felri and a Red Dragoness steed (no one has any clue where she came from, but she saved his life after the first Valian War and stayed with him since) - Husband to Maddie (calls her Gingersnap)
"You see that door, the one leading to the front of this inn? I want you on the other side of it... Now." ~ Calder, when someone attempts a bar fight.

Backstory:
Born as an orphan middle child to an older brother named Xander and a younger sister named Evita, Calder and his Tiefling siblings only ever knew of the life of pickpocketing and of the constant struggle to survive by themselves amongst the Khanaran blood sands. Originally from a once prosperous city at the eastern edge of the desert, Calder quickly grew up learning how to adapt and use his natural ability to sneak through the shadows undetected, in order to steal what he could to feed his siblings and help his constantly sick sister. One day, his luck finally ran out when he bumped into a Dragonborn guard named Rhozoan Diazerae, who had caught his brother and sister so frequently he knew each Tiefling sibling by name. However, the more times Calder and his siblings got caught by Rhozoan, the more times the Dragonborn guard would tell them where they went wrong and how to properly defend themselves against him.
In time, Rhozoan would eventually find out about Evita's ailment, caused by her weaker body due to its more natural but untrained alignment to magic over strength, and soon invited the three Tieflings to live with him, in exchange for them to stop their thieving ways and use their skills to help people instead. At last, they finally had food waiting for them at their table and a bed to feel warm in at night, alongside Evita's strength finally returning in full thanks to Rhozoan's care. In return, as promised, Xander began to train in the ways of swordsmanship, which Rhozoan happily shared his tricks of the trade to show the strongest Tiefling sibling how to truly wield his power, while Evita began studying from books on the ways of magic and sorcery. Calder, however, remained in his ways as teens do to rebel against such drastic change. And every single time, Rhozoan was there to steer him on the right path, causing many arguments between them but those only born out of love and concern for the other.
When Evita had just reached her teen years, the city fell under attack from a sky full of airships hailing from Valia, bombing every corner of the city and spreading fire and lightning from their steel hulls. Soldiers of the Empire began to march through the city, slaughtering every humanoid and non-human creature they laid eyes upon, proclaiming their pride in ridding the world of all undesirables for the Emperor's future reign in an untainted land. The young Calder instinctively rushed to the aid of the people, wielding his daggers and jumping through the very shadows all around him to make quick work of the soldiers, only for more to take their place. Soon enough, he was surrounded and outgunned, scars now lining his body and drenching him in his and Valian blood, but just as the soldiers raised their wheellock rifles and pointed it at the young trembling Tiefling, a mighty roar echoed the fiery ruins all around them before the soldiers came crashing down as a great bronze blur in leather armour bulldozed through them. Rhozoan stood before Calder, shielding him from the remaining Valian soldiers, and told Calder to grab his siblings and run. Like the steel-nerved child he was, Calder refused, standing back up and wielding his daggers at the ready behind his adoptive father. Knowing he couldn't talk him out of this, Rhozoan and Calder readied for battle or death... Until the soldiers were called back, leaving the Dragonborn guard and young Tiefling on edge as a black shadow approached them from over a mound of rubble.
Wearing armour as black as night, with decals of gold and a red cape bearing the royal house emblem of a clockwork sun all but assured both Rhozoan and Calder of this new foe's infamous identity, as Emperor Solias Valis stood before them with a grin and a proposition.
"Ah, thou art the fiend who hath slaughtered entire fleets, all lacking the use of thy fangs, they say. Thou valor and strength are commendable, beast, so we come to face thee as an equal to man. Fend thyself, and thou kin shall be spared when royal blood stains these sands once more. Fall to our blade, and we shall honour thee a martyr to those who escape during this battle. Heed my words, beast... You shall now face the Emperor of the Sun, and I know not of defeat by feral blade. What say you? Will you face me as a man or a beast?"
Rhozoan took one look at Calder behind him and uttered in a low growl, "Go. Take your sister and flee with your brother. Keep running and never turn back. Do this for me... I beg of you, son." With a sweep of his blade and the brandishing of his shield, Rhozoan faced the Emperor in a final showdown for the fate of the Khanaran folk. Knowing he was no match against the Emperor of Valia, Calder fled the scene and managed to regroup with his brother and sister before he made his way with them to the outskirts of the city ruins. Just as he reached the hill beyond the boarders of the city, now engulfed in flames and the fallen of both the innocent and the Valian, Calder witnessed the final moments of Rhozoan's battle as the severely wounded Emperor plunged his blade into the Dragonborn, ending the duel. As promised, the Emperor pulled back his forces, allowing those who escaped the city to leave safely, knowing that Rhozoan Diazerae died to save their life.
Life only became harder from then on, as the Tiefling siblings wandered the desert, taking jobs wherever they could, until they finally settled in village of Ayseir. With Xander now training to be a guard of the village to follow in their father's footsteps, and Evita aiming at travelling to Kilvaani's Rest to learn how to harness her magic, the trio split and began their separate lives, swearing deep down to find a way to stop the Emperor and avenge their adoptive father. Calder, in turn, began the life of a soldier, journeying to the west to finally escape the harsh life of the desert before learning the ways of a ranger to allow him to further adapt his skills as a shadowy rogue. Along the way, he gained the occupation of a bounty hunter and ended up going all the way to Torbroch for his target.
There, he met the Orc warrior-monk, Hirgora Urzak, and fell deeply in love with the woman who defeated him in fierce battle to fend off this stranger from her clan territory. During his time searching for his target, he would end up meeting her again and again, until she finally caved and became his guide in finding the Orc he was after in order to get Calder off her land sooner. The nights they spent camping together eventually led to a closer bond, until Calder finally found his target and he left the small Orcish island to escape the death penalty for his stay, keeping in semi-regular touch with his beloved while back on Kernai.
Some months later, however, while he was visiting his siblings in Ayseir to check up on them, there came a knock on the door, followed by shadow hurrying away past the curtained window. Xander checked outside before he returned... with a basket containing a moving bundle of blankets and a note.
"Calder,
It was foolish of me to think that we had something between us, and I take the blame for not sending you away sooner. By the laws of my land, any who tarnish Torbrochian ways and its people must be dealt with immediately. So, I send her to you, to ensure she lives a full life away from the Order and its laws.
Do not look for me, or they will kill you and the halfling. Bula is yours now. Protect her with your life."
Inside the basket lay a light green infant with tiny stub horns, sound asleep with every little snore whistling through her tusks. "Well, shit..." was all Calder could say. For the next five years, Calder continued to work on finding more and more bounties to feed the growing family, as Xander now stayed home in Ayseir to take care of Calder's daughter, Bula. Even in his loving care, the world was still cruel to Tiefling kind, for a Valian human soon came into power over Ayseir and became its mayor, after he was banished for crimes against the neighboring Empire, and stepped up as a self-proclaimed mayor over the village and its people. Knowing he needed to do something to help, Calder focused on his work, hoping that one day the ruler would show up on the guild board and allow him the chance at freeing his people.
During a hunt through the Emerald Valley, the Rogue-Ranger stumbled upon a quaint little inn by the name of the Daisy Djinn and, wishing to find shelter from the storm that night, booked a room from the Dwarf running the bar and asked for a pint.
One drink led to many, and details about their lives began to spill as the Tiefling found odd comfort from this compassionate yet feisty ginger Dwarven innkeeper named Maddie... only to end up in bed with her that very night. Neither one intended this, but no shame came out of it either due to their own pasts in such predicaments. But what made the Tiefling change his mind about this Dwarf being a distant memory upon his departure, after his reveal on returning home to his daughter to help alleviate the troubles of his hometown, was her vow to help him free his people by bringing him to her family in Hammerdeep and gathering forces there.
"I've only known ye for less than a day, but I know all too well of the troubles the Tieflings of the desert face... For no child deserves to know only of the life of suffering and fear."
Despite his instincts telling him not to trust her, he felt no misguidance or lies to her words, only the spark within her of an adventurer that willed them to help those in need. After some consideration, Calder agreed and Maddie packed her things right away, leaving the inn to the care of her sister Daisy, before the two left Alentou to journey eastwards towards the mountain, the Dwarf now donning her runic bronze bear armour and axe once more after years of retirement.
Her retirement, however, did nothing to dull her skills and senses to the dangers beyond the protected Emerald Valley. For by the time the Tiefling and the Dwarf reached their first town to restock on supplies, they only then encountered their first obstacle...and potential third party member.

Law of the Valiant Ramblings: Part 2-A (The Protagonist/Fighter)
(Quick edit: I made a stat sheet for her.... so now Maddie is officially my DnD player character!! https://ddb.ac/characters/72263344/BLaGbW)
Before I begin, I just wanna thank runmarlyrun on Twitter (https://twitter.com/runmarlyrun?s=20&t=bdNQY8muHSzv7c_qEsS_Vg) for helping to make the Bronzemoon family come to life with their amazing art! They drew what you see here and one other character that you'll see later, since I ended up accidentally making this yet another long post, so instead of showing all the characters at once, I'll do them one by one to be able to tell their story individually, and with each character reveal, you'll soon learn of the story that led to the formation of the first party before the... BBEG battle~
To put it simply, Maddie and Calder were a part of two parties, the first smaller party that journeyed through Kernai to free Aseyir..... and the ARMY party that fought in the Valian War. But that's a tale for another day~ ;3
So for now, enjoy yet ANOTHER long post, as I introduce my DnD OCs, starting with my player character, Maddie the Dwarf Fighter, the one who started it all...
~*~
Madeline "Maddie" Bronzemoon-Diazerae (ne茅 Bronzemoon) - Mountain Dwarf from Hammerdeep - Age 75 (or 45 in Dwarven years, as they can live up to 350 years) - Lawful-Good - Rune Knight-Fighter, Arcane Blacksmith, Innkeeper - Direct Descendant of Dwarven founder and hero, Boic Bravesoul- Mother of 7, Wife to Calder (calls him Smallbeard) - Suffers from PTSD (will react in either the fight or fawn response), will freeze up if she sees purple magic or skeletons, has a deep fear of the Unmother's cult, its magic and any form of undead, but will hide her response deep inside by lashing out in self-defense before assessing the situation.
"Ah sure, ev'ry Bronzemoon's had at least one smithy in their family, trained by either the eldest or the rulin' Matron, the moment the wee one can lift a hammer responsibly. As y'can see, I proudly wear me own Ma's brand to pass on that tradition to me own children, hopefully to make another for me two eldest, Bula and Garth. After all, as me dear ol' Nan used to say, smithin' is more than just a trade, dear... t'is a life skill that can save ye in more ways'n one." ~ Maddie when someone asks about the forge she keeps in the stables.

Backstory:
The seventh born to eleven siblings (counting her future adopted sister, Daisy) Maddie is the third youngest daughter born to the clan leader, Matron Katrien "Moonweaver" Bronzemoon, and Ivan Stonesmith, a skilled marble artist who married into the powerful and matriarchal Bronzemoon family.
The Bronzemoon clan lead the capital city of Hammerdeep as part of a council of other family based clans, consisting of either a Matron or a Patron who is the heir of the family name, with Matron Katrien being its leader due to the Bronzemoons being the most famous family of blacksmiths amongst Dwarven kind, alongside their legacy as the descendants of Boic "Bravesoul" Bronzemoon, rebel hero of the Dwarves who fought in the Khanaran War against their demon enslaver, Oxarus the Eternal Flame, and founder of the city of Hammerdeep and the underground Dwarven Kingdom. The Bronzemoon family bloodline is best defined by their blacksmithing skills and ginger hair (something Boic's own heirs were best defined by), alongside the traditional family crest of a Celtic style bronze crescent moon being passed down to each blacksmith or smithy of some kind talented enough to bear the brand on all their creations, only given once they are deemed a worthy enough master of their craft.
Wishing to escape the pressures of clan nobility, despite knowing she would never become the next clan Matron and was happily far from the reaches of being an heir of any rank, Maddie completed her family tradition of becoming a master blacksmith by the time she turned thirty before following her own dream of being a warrior, joining the fighter's guild and getting her chance at seeing the world aboveground. Luckily, her family fully supported this, for many of her siblings were already members of the army that protected the Dwarven kingdom, alongside her maternal grandfather Bjorn the Bear being an adventuring Paladin, one vowed to the Dwarven patron Balvani the Clockwork God, in his golden years, before he passed away when Maddie was twenty years old. On the day she left to seek out her first quest, Maddie's mother gifted her Bjorn's axe, Old Rory, and his bear themed armour, reshaped by Katrien herself to fit Maddie, before sending her off with her blessing to only return when she felt she wanted to, with the promise that no matter what happened, the Bronzemoons would always be proud of what Maddie could accomplish.
For fifteen years, Maddie travelled around Kernai, gaining a party that she would one day consider like a second family, as she found herself becoming a maternal figure to each one. And as they travelled, she soon developed her skills and picked up an additional skill of wielding magic through runes, many of which she would brand or etch onto her weapons and armour, allowing her to smith without the need for a forge and use her father's gifted stone hammer to fix everyone's armour and weapons on the go. One day, her party accepted a quest to help a town cure its plague caused by a Necromancer, a follower of the primordial goddess the Unmother, who was seeking a fabled Djinn's lantern hidden away nearby and lashed out when no one told him of its whereabouts.
Journeying into the cave said to hold the Djinn, the monsters and undead raised by the Necromancer defeated each member of the party with every section of the dungeon they entered, until only Maddie, a Dragonborn Paladin, and a Wood Elf were all that were left of the party to face down the Necromancer. Managing to weaken the dark mage in battle, his strength still far surpassed the party, and soon enough only Maddie was left, still standing with a broken leg, a multitude of fresh new scars, and one eye badly damaged beyond healing means. The two fought long and hard for the right to own the Djinn within the lantern, but finally Maddie defeated the Necromancer through slicing his back to form a rune that burned him from the inside, ensuring he could not raise himself from death. At last, the battle was over, but only Maddie was there to witness it.
Taking the bodies of her fallen friends and the lantern outside, she buried her party by herself before freeing the Djinn, asking her to free the town of its plague and to use her last wish to free the Djinn's own chains of ethereal servitude. Touched by the kindness of the badly wounded Dwarf, the Djinn healed Maddie of all her surface wounds before accepting her final two wishes, the last wish turning the Djinn back into her original Elven self... with no memories whatsoever beyond her time serving the Necromancer, or even what kind of Elf she was beyond her appearance of her fair skin, blonde hair and long elf ears, as well as a scar on her tailbone. Without hesitation, Maddie took the amnesiac Elf back home to Hammerdeep, where her family almost instantly adopted her as their eleventh child, where she then took on the name Daisy Bronzemoon, a name the Elf chose to always help remind her of where she became Maddie's sister outside that cave, surrounded by daisies. A few short years later, Daisy and Maddie moved out to the small village of Alentou to begin a domestic life together. With some help from Maddie's brothers and sisters, they built an inn in the middle of the village before revealing its name as a gift to Daisy to truly welcome her into the clan... the Daisy Djinn Inn.
For the next decade, Daisy and Maddie worked together to run the inn, settling into their quiet life and allowing Maddie to happily retire by hanging Old Rory over the bar as an icebreaker for conversation and to serve as a warning to any who are foolish enough to cause trouble. One late night, during a storm that shook the very walls around Maddie, as she ran the bar for guests wishing to escape the rain while Daisy managed the rooms upstairs, a bounty hunter came along wishing for lodging and information on his next target, a dark Elf mage known for his taboo faith in the Unmother. This hooded figure was a Khanaran Tiefling by the name of Calder Diazerae, and Maddie was more than happy to welcome him in with food, drink and the reveal that she had killed the Necromancer many years ago, gesturing to the axe above her that ended him. Knowing no others were coming in that night, Maddie pulled up a seat beside the Tiefling and poured them both a drink, before she told her tale to him and unintentionally opened her heart to him of the loss she has suffered from that quest. The two drank long into the night, finding pleasant comfort in the fact that they could tell each other their burdens without worry or embarrassment, but soon enough the alcohol finally kicked in, and by morning Maddie awoke in her bed with no memory beyond the first few tales she shared with the Tiefling stranger.... who was now sleeping naked and in bed with her.
Her next adventure as a Fighter pulled out of retirement soon came right after, when the two shared an oddly comfortable breakfast together without any sense of shame for their brief passionate night, as Calder revealed to Maddie that he would need to leave right after to return home to his young daughter, Bula, all the way in Aseyir at the heart of the desert. Learning that his small hometown was run by a cruel and greedy dictator, and that his daughter was in the care of his older brother Xander, a knight, and younger sister Evita, a mage, Maddie decided right there and then to answer her adventuring spirit's call one last time. Picking up Old Rory from its display case, Maddie began to pack her bags without a single trace of hesitation, for the moment she placed her packed belongings at Calder's feet, her old armour in hand, she simply said,
"I've only known ye for less than a day, but I know all too well of the troubles the Tieflings of the desert face. So... If you'll have me, I'll gladly guide ye home through the quickest path in the mountains, and I'll free your people with the help of me own. On my word as a daughter of the Bronzemoon, your child will have the life she deserves. When all this is over, my home will be open to ye both, for no child deserves to know only of the life of suffering and fear."
