what really gets to me and will probably keep me up at night is that mhok starts crying also because he realizes what he must mean to day. mhok realizes that, after all this time, day has received his love and care in full and and even makes it a part of himself (as the last image he sees). the entire spectrum of his feelings has reached him. and with that, mhok receives day's own feelings, day's own love. it has to be a shattering realization that someone wants your image to be the last one they see. so mhok, who at first didn't have the luxury of thinking he could even be welcomed or trusted by others, is hit with the fact that he is truly, utterly loved by day. and so all he can do is cry.

HEY, you know how at the start of the episode when Day's father said Night told him Day was going to be at the wedding? Personally, I was like, "Why would Night do that? That seems like something that would obviously upset Day." I saw a few others reacting this way too, so I wasn't alone in wondering why Night did that.

But then I remembered the original plan for this trip. Night was supposed to go with them. Their mom only signed off on letting Day travel so far if Night was the one to take him. Letting Day and Mork go by themselves was a spur of the moment decision.

If the original plan had happened, Night would have been in Songkhla with Mork and Day but he likely wouldn't have stayed with them once they were there. His job was just transportation, their mother never stipulated that Night had to watch over them while in Songkhla. The plan was probably to get Mork and Day there, then go off by himself and meet back up with them later to drive home. Why would Night have attended the wedding of his brother's friend? Night didn't know them and he's very aware that Day wouldn't have wanted him there. As he always does, Night would have tried to minimize his presence as much as possible during the trip so Day could enjoy the event.

This episode established that Night reached out and reconnected with their father on his own, and it seems he's been in contact with him for a while. Given that, Night's plan after leaving Mork and Day was likely to go visit their dad. If so, its reasonable to assume Night would have told their dad that he was coming to see him and the reason he would be in town was Day attending his friends wedding, but Night probably wasn't planning on having Day and their dad meet. Night likely wouldn't have told Day where he'd been during the trip at all (and Day likely wouldn't have cared anyway). When plans changed and if his dad was expecting him, Night would have let him know that he wouldn't be going after all. But since Night wouldn't be there and their dad knew Day would be, he saw the opportunity to see his youngest son again and took it. If Night had gone, I doubt their dad would have gone to find Day, he would have concentrated on being there for Night. But in reconnecting with Night, it probably made him want to reconnect with Day too if given the chance. I think showing up to the wedding uninvited and causing a scene was the wrong way to go about it, but it all worked out in the end so WHAT DO I KNOW!?

Night didn't orchestrate some ambush. He'd likely just made a plan to stay out of the way, but in doing so gave his dad information on what was going on, and when plans changed their dad acted on his own. In what happens to this character pretty frequently, Night's best intentions resulted in the worst outcome.

Night wasn't even there, and he still takes all the blame.

Me while watching Last Twilight Ep. 9:

Will we see the back story at last? Also, we have yet to see a P'Aof cameo 😂 Is this finally the episode that he will appear?

1. Ah, so Night is still in contact with their Dad? <after 5 seconds> So, Night caused the accident? C'mon give us a flashback already 😭😭😭

2. They WERE close prior to the accident 😭 But Night was not the one driving. Also, the sensible thing to do was to pullover and stop the car the moment Night started heaving. Day trying to get a barf bag whilst driving is stupid. I get Day is looking for someone to blame for his condition, but the way he was driving that night...it was technically he's own fault he got blind. 😐 Day's resentment of Night is SO UNDESERVED 😭😭😭

3. How much you want to bet that Dad leaving Mum for another woman is an incomplete picture of what happened? Especially if Night is still in contact with his father. At this point, I don't trust P'Aof giving us a straightforward cause and effect lol.

Sidenote: I had drunk Dutchmill a few years ago and it's not as tasty as Mhok and Day would like you to believed 😅

4. Oh, Night. He is trying to change for the better but all Day sees is Night 'pretending' to usurp his place as the "good" son. I don't like this side of Day. 😑

5. It looks like Mhok gained a new employment 😂 Maybe Mum will soften up if she learns Mhok is a great cook too.

6. Oooh. I like that - visiting the places that you have only read in a book. I wish I have the budget and the free time to do just that 😭😭😭

7. I don't like this hostel proprietor. Why so effing hostile from the get-go? She needed to hear that Day is going blind for her to start acting decent? The fvck.

11. So, the book has a bittersweet ending? Now, I don't like the odds. We are getting so many effing hints that this series will have a bittersweet ending too 😭😭😭 Still, this is P'Aof - he has yet to deliver a story that has not ended happily 😭😭😭

12. Oh, no. Day cannot see anything anymore 😭😭😭 Mhok's hearbreak is just palpable.

I love the new OST. However, I don't like the lyrics because it tells of a love that has PASSED AND ONLY LINGERS IN THE SINGER'S MEMORY. Wtf does this all mean??

While we're all still ruminating on episode 11 of Last Twilight, I was debating if I should compile my language notes for ep. 9 onwards or not because the subs in ep. 11 especially are excellent already. But I thought I might as well share! Since I was home sick with little energy the past few days, then had to discover that my computer's psu is dead and posting from mobile is apparently limited to 10 pictures per post 🙂🔫 this is gonna be part 1 of 2.

I shall be color-coding how characters are addressed again for ease of understanding - Day, Night, the dad, Aon (there's no rhyme or reason to these colors btw, mobile limits my choices anyway)

Feeling sorry

The word Sorry comes up several times in this episode and though they're all subbed the same, there is a difference in Thai. Directing a wink and finger guns at @lurkingteapot here 👉👉

ขอโทษ /khaaw thoht/ is arguably the simplest of them. It encompasses apologizing, excusing oneself, expressing one's guilt or taking blame, asking for pardon. The word โทษ /thoht/ in there can range from blame to punishment to mistake etc. and it's also in ยกโทษ(ให้) /yohk thoht (hai)/ = to forgive, or more literally to absolve from blame/of a mistake:

มันไม่สำคัญหรอกลูก ว่าเดย์จะอภัยให้ไอ้ไนท์มันหรือเปล่า แต่ไอ้ไนท์อะ มันไม่มีวันยกโทษให้ตัวเองแน่นอน

-> ลูก /luuk/ = son, child (in the sense of offspring); อภัยให้... /a phai hai.../ = forgive, excuse, pardon sb.

Then we've got รู้สึกผิด /ruu seuk phit/ = feel guilty/bad/remorseful, or more literally to feel one's wrongdoing/fault:

พ่อรู้ได้ยังไง ว่าไอ้ไนท์มันรู้สึกผิด

/por ruu dai yang ngai waa ai Night man ruu seuk phit/

-> พ่อ /por/ = father, dad

And lastly เสียใจ /siia jai/ - it's made up of ใจ /jai/, which is used in conjunction with states of mind and emotion, and เสีย /siia/, which can mean to worsen, break, lose etc. เสียใจ is- closer to sorrow? than regret, blame, or guilt, I'd say? It can be used to express condolences or sympathy too (เสียใจด้วย /siia jai duuay/).

-> But Night feels deeply sorry [because of it], son.

Oh Jeez, I knew this episode was gonna be divisive since we finally got an answer to the question: What happened between Day and Night? Full disclosure, I got pretty emotional about it too! I've calmed down now and after some reflection, I've ultimately concluded that whichever brother you find yourself sympathizing with more, neither of them is undeserving of criticism.

This situation isn't black and white. There are no heroes or villains here. Neither Day nor Night are at fault for what happened, it was an accident and the resulting situation is complicated. Between unhealthy family dynamics and the individual characters flaws, there are A LOT of factors here making the conflict actively worse (not to mention they both suck at communication). It can't be resolved so simply by deciding which one of them is right or wrong.

It’s fine to feel a bit defensive over them —Day and Night are both good characters— but please don’t equate criticizing either of them with dismissing the characters feelings. Those are not the same thing nor are they mutually exclusive. I am not condemning Day for feeling what he feels and acting out because of it, but I am pointing out that how he’s choosing to react to his feelings is not healthy and is ultimately hurting both his brother and himself. Someone else would not be condemning Night for saying that him not explaining himself better is exacerbating Day's pain, they would simply be pointing out that his lack of communication skills is contributing to the problem and he needs to work on it. Criticism does not equal dismissal of the underlying reasons for why they act the way they do.

Analyzing these behaviours and criticizing them isn’t disrespectful, it’s a process that teaches us how to identify these behaviours in real people and in ourselves. That’s the entire point of stories, the author is trying to convey a message— to teach a lesson. Hopefully one you can take with you once the story is over and apply to your real life.

I don’t want Night OR Day to be stuck hurting each other forever. I like both these characters. I want them to get a happy ending. I hope we can all agree on that much, at least.

Last Twilight ภาพนายไม่เคยลืม Ep 9

This episode was a LOT. I found myself thinking "wait, if this is episode nine, what's going to happen in episode 11?!" but then I thought, well, if we compare the structure of Last Twilight to Bad Buddy (which I invariably do because those are the two 12-ep-shows of P'Aof's that I've watched), this is the … hit a snag, get past it, hit a LARGER snag part of the story arc, isn't it. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
