like, don't get me wrong. madohomu and kyosaya are A+ ships. but i find myself more invested in other holy quintet ships mainly because the fandom doesn't give them as much attention but their relationships are so interesting to think about. madosaya, kyomami, homusaya, kyohomu, madomami are some of my faves.

“Do you still wanna protect me?”
“Of course I do… in the end I just can’t give up on you.”
I’m gonna be so normal about this

Gaming with Mami! (AKA Teaching Mami how to use and play with a computer)
————————————————————————
“I really don’t know how to work a computer, Kyoko.”
“You’re doing greaat, Mami! You just need some time– no wait, Mami, press the space button, you’re drowning!”
“The space– the one in the middle, right? Or was it the big square?”
“Yeah, the one in the middle! No, you have to long press it– Mami, your oxygen–!”
Mami and Kyoko stared at the screen right as it went red and said, in large bold letters, “Game Over”. Mami collapsed back onto her seat, blinking rapidly. She looked at Kyoko, who blinked back at her in confusion. Mami sighed. “I’m really bad at this Kyoko, I’m sorry.”
Kyoko popped a Rocky stick into her mouth, eyeing Mami carefully. “Hey, don’t worry about it! You just need some time!” she grinned and shook her Rocky box towards Mami. “Want one?”
Mami smiled softly, then took a stick. She bit into it right as Kyoko finished eating her stick. Her friend popped two sticks into her mouth this time. “Come on, let’s go again.”
Mami faced her screen and clicked the “Respawn” button, causing her character to revive. “I’m still surprised you don’t know how to use a computer, Mami!” Kyoko laughed from her seat, which was just right beside her friend. “I know, it’s just that I don’t use computers much.” Mami laughed in turn, watching as Kyoko eagerly placed her headphones on. The blonde tilted her head slightly. “I hope you don’t mind me asking this, but why aren’t we playing a shooting game…?”
It wasn’t that Mami liked shooting games, far from it even, it was just that Kyoko played them a lot. She seemed to enjoy it too, so it did make Mami curious as to why they weren’t playing it. She expected a shooting game first, but it was an exploration game instead…
Not that she didn’t like it. Exploration games were fun, as far as she’s seen and played. Still, the mechanics were a bit confusing…
“Ehhh…well, I know just how good you are when it comes to guns so…” Kyoko shuffled in her seat, not meeting Mami’s eyes. “Well I just figured you’d be too easy to beat if you don’t know how to use a computer. And I want a challenge, not a punching bag!”
Mami blinked. “But you didn’t seem to have any problem doing that to Sayaka.”
“Pffft, Sayaka? Please, I can kick her ass any time I want. She’ll be able to handle me, anyway! I kinda wanna see her rage quit–“
“Kyoko, language.”
“Apologies, mother.”
Mami sighed. When it came to gaming, Kyoko and Sayaka were a little…competitive. Then again, they were somewhat competitive with everything else that involved…well, anything that could become a competition.
“Come on, let’s keep playing!” Kyoko said, directing all of her focus to her game. Mami decided to do the same.
Kyoko glanced at Mami, then at her screen. “If you want to mine stuff, left-click on the mouse.” Mami blinked, looked at Kyoko, and then did as she instructed. Small cracks appeared on the block, and Mami surmised she had to hold the mouse until the block completely broke.
It worked. The block fell off and her character collected it, adding it to her inventory. Kyoko grinned. “See, you’re doing it! You’re a fast learner!” Mami blushed slightly, a small smile playing on her lips. “I– Well, thank you, Kyoko. It’s because of you I know how to do this…” the former admitted. Kyoko’s grin only widened. “No problem! Hey, when you get a hang of this we could play with Sayaka! And maybe…” she gave Mami a smug smile. “I can challenge you to a shooting game!” Mami smiled in return. “Very well, that sounds nice to me!”
It was a very nice thought indeed. Being able to play with her friends and spend time with them was really everything Mami wanted. Plus, playing games was fun too! She just…needed a grip on the mechanics of a game (using keyboards was a bit tricky too).
She spent the rest of the day learning how to play through the computer and spending time with Kyoko. It was…perfect.
————————————————————————
This is purely self-indulgent stuff AHAHAHAHAHA I had an idea, wanted to write it, and went crazy with it so here’s what happened. I was not expecting to finish it today LOL
Anyway! I really love my (platonic) KyoMami interactions and that is what excited me enough to write all this! I also based this on the headcanon that Mami doesn’t know, or is not familiar with, using a computer. I thought that’d be funny to explore!
As for where this takes place, it’s either in an AU where there are no Magical Girls or in Homura’s barrier. Really, I didn’t think of the timeline or stuff LOL
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little fic!!
Edit: Just remembered that I should say, this is probably plotless and whatnot but I just wrote it for fun and for the cuteness and fluff!

Why do you like kyomami
Read "The Different Story", it's really good and not just from a kyomami standpoint, but like. Just as a story. It's easily my favorite spinoff comic from PMMM.
But if you've read it and still don't get it-- I think that the history between Mami and Kyoko that turned sour is just very fun to explore. I ship it but also I just like it as a friendship or a dynamic. Kyoko might hate Mami but she also wants to protect her. She's mad at Mami and then doesn't care when she dies (or does she?). Mami clearly cares about Kyoko but she always seems to overstep. Both of these kids look at each other and see a mirror of themselves and what they hate about themselves and what they wish they could be. I just feel like there's a lot to explore. It's not just "oh they started as enemies and they became friends", it's like "you've seen me at my absolute worst and you were the most important person in the world to me and I hate you for it and I wish I was stronger and I wish I could be like you and I hate you for that too and I wish you were different and"
When I was younger I was a HUGE kyosaya shipper, but as I got older I kinda grew out of it. I dunno! Kyomami is just really layered and kind of tragic and you want them to do well but you also want that unspoken pain to stay there too. I feel like Kyomami brings out the best and the worst out of both characters, which I just really enjoy.

I like that Kyoko's "Now that really pisses me off" when Sayaka claims that she'd never be like Mami gains more context after reading spin off materials but isn't dependent on it. We get the basic idea. Kyoko's annoyed by Sayaka's supposed naivety... but it gains another layer when you know that Mami meant a lot to her in actuality.
YES OMG
Kyoko sees a lot of her former self in Sayaka, back when she used to be idealistic and fought for justice instead of just to survive. That's why at first she's so hard on Sayaka and later tries reach out to her and convince Sayaka to live the way she (Kyoko) does.
And like you said, that "you'll never be like Mami" line gets a lot more context when you read The Different Story and understand Kyoko and Mami's relationship. Kyoko used to idolize Mami and want to be just like her, so seeing Sayaka- who again, reminds her of her former self- saying that she'll never be like Mami must cut deep. Because as much as she did want to be like Mami, she threw Mami's ideals away after the deaths of her family.
Fuck, the character writing in this series is so good.

i can't help but think how that's kyomami (especially the 'you are not permitted moral distance) to me because in canon they're literally "i survived a codependent homoerotic friendship" it's not asecret that kyouko has looser morals (in a "loose morals but more "sense) than mami, but that it didn't start that way at first, she was very similar to early sayaka with heroes and justice and stuff and mami seemed the perfect hero, so kyouko tried to be like her of course they had their breakup but the thing about "your soft hands are just as bloody as mine"
it's that mami isn't so different from kyouko post-breakup, at least when looking at the consequences of their actions when kyouko went back to her home turf, she got full survival mode, and any magical girl that passed through her territory was more often than not not kindly asked to go away she beat up nomad magical girls, magical girls with no territory that often have trouble finding a stable supply of grief seeds and well magical girls are resilient, very resilient, but they're also very fragile, one bad enough day and poof they're a witch now and well, how many magical girls that kyouko beat up, for no other reason than because she could, or because it was her territory, ended up becoming witches or dead i'd say quite a few in a few years that's not to say kyouko is evil or anything, but she has some blood on her hands plus you can't tell me she hasn't killed a magical girl at some point, magical girls fights are vicious kyouko has blood on her hands, she knows it, she acknolesge it, she doesn't shy away from it, she survives then there's mami mami is powerful very powerful and that along with the nature of her powers help her take down magical girls who would want to take over her territory without killing them mami is allowed to be merciful because she's strong and she takes pity probably, if a magical girl is pitiful enough, alone enough, she'll either give her grief seed or offer to take the magical girl under her wing
they leave eventually, they always leave (mami always ends up alone in the end, maybe it's because she comes on too strong, she's desperate not to be alone) but they stay, for a while, and some of mami's morals bleed on them how could it not, mami is strong, she looks like the hero of justice children dreams of (she desperately try to look the part, crumbling all the way) how many magical girls died because they believed mami, because they thought others would be like her (some are, and it's not fair to say that it's mami's fault, but the magical girls world is ruthless, and mami not truly acknowledging that fact because she's strong, or because she's scared, does the magical girls under her wing a disservice) but what about the girls she pushed/convinced to become magical girls (sure they get a wish, but you know how much of an scam that is) how many of these newly born magical girls, who only knew of heros magical girls, who were pushed into an unwinnable fight died, because mami tried to fill the hole in her heart so yes, mami has blood on her hands and kyouko hates that mami refuse to acknowledge that fact, and maybe pities her that's where the "admit your soft hands are just as bloody as mine. say it. say it" kyouko wants mami to acknowledge what she did, she wants mami to acknowledge herself, that way, maybe she could understand, or at least accept what kyouko did without looking at her like she's some kind of horrible, greedy, lost soul kyouko loves mami, she'll always love mami, even if she hates her they got too close, too dependant on each other before for everything to be swept away just like that and if mami just acknowledged everything, if she stopped putting a "moral distance" between them (kyouko won't allow her to) well kyouko would do just about anything for mami

pmmm is a good show because every holy quintet ship just makes sense. even if there's some of them i don't ship all of the potential character dynamics are compelling to think about as a ship.
