Nutri-garden a huge success in Narayanpet

Narayanpet: Children at Anganwadi schools being provided nutritious meals is an expected exercise, but food prepared from fresh vegetables cultivated in the backyards of these schools? Yes, this is happening in several Anganwadi schools in Narayanpet district, thanks to the initiative taken by the district administration to develop ‘Poshana Vanams (Nurti-gardens) in the premises of these schools.

It all began as a small and novel step but it is now flourishing into a major initiative as these nutri-gardens are being nurtured in at least 50 Anganwadi schools in the district. Buoyed by the success of this experiment, the district administration plans to replicate the model in high schools as well, covering about 100 schools, Narayanpet Collector D Harichandana told Telangana Today.

Stating that at least a dozen different vegetables including spinach, lady’s finger, ridge gourd are raised in the nutri-gardens, she said the striking aspect of the exercise was that Anganwadi teachers and village green committees are maintaining these gardens.

“They have been maintaining these nutri-gardens for the past few months. More importantly, some of these vegetables are given to children aged less than six years, pregnant women and lactating mothers under home ration initiative,” she said.

Apart from providing fresh vegetables, the initiative is also aimed at making school children learn farming and take up plantations at their homes. Many Anganwadi schools in Eklaspur, Perepalla, Appampally, Marikal, Kosgi, Krishna and others are raising such nutri-gardens and reaping good benefits.

Impressed by the novel initiative, Advanta Seeds and Numhans Seeds are now collaborating with the district administration and training teachers and Anganwadi workers in setting up and maintaining such gardens, besides providing free seed. On the district administration front, District Women and Child Welfare Department, District Education Department and Agriculture Departments are also chipping in to make the initiative a bigger success by expanding it to as many schools as possible, Harichandana said.

Observation: Nike has produced a running shoe so effective that several long-distance runners asked the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to investigate whether it provides an unfair advantage to its wearers during competition.

The Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% played a central role in a pair of record-setting performances last weekend. Eliud Kipchoge, already the world record holder in men’s marathons, became the first person ever to run a 26.2-mile race in under two hours at an unofficial event in Vienna, Austria, while Brigid Kosgie set a new women’s world record by finishing in 2:14:04 at the Chicago Marathon.

Versions of the same sneaker were worn by the last five runners to break the official men’s marathon record. The trend prompted a “group of elite athletes” to raise concerns about the VaporFly’s impact on fair competition

The cutting-edge Vaporfly makes uses of a carbon fiber plate to boost “spring” and a higher-than-typical midsole made of an ultra-light foam designed to “increase energy return” – boosting a runner’s pace without having a debilitating effect on their leg muscles. Nike included the “4%” tag because the sneakers purportedly “lowered the energetic cost of running by 4 percent on average,” according to a scientific study commissioned by the company.

In a surprising turn of events, Patnam Narender Reddy of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) secured a victory in the Kodangal constituency in Telangana, defeating incumbent MLA and political heavyweight Revanth Reddy, the working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). While Revanth received 71,435 votes, Narender got 80,754 votes, ensuring the formerrsquo;s first major defeat in his political career. Revanth, who has been in politics since 2004, was first elected as MLA on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket in 2009, defeating five-time Kodangal MLA Gurunath Reddy of the TRS by a margin of nearly 7,000 votes. He was then re-elected in 2014, again on a TDP ticket, winning by a margin of over 14,000 votes. Revanth defected to the Congress in October 2017 and along with him, he took a large chunk of his supporters. After losing twice to Revanth, it appears that Gurunath Reddy decided not to contest this time, but put his weight behind Narender Reddy. Narender, an MLC, is the brother of incumbent Transport Minister Patnam Mahender Reddy, and was pitted against Revanth to dethrone him. KCRrsquo;s nephew and Irrigation Minister Harish Rao had been deployed to ensure Narenderrsquo;s victory. Ahead of a TRS campaign rally before the polling day, Revanth had been taken into preventive custody from his residence ahead of caretaker CM and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Raorsquo;s election rally at Kosgi in Kodangal. The police had stated that it was a preventive arrest on the orders of the Election Commission because Revanth had appealed to the people in his constituency to boycott the meeting by the TRS chief and hold protests in the area. Cash-for-vote scam Revanth, however, is still an accused in an earlier cash-for-vote scam. He was caught red-handed on video by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on May 31, 2015 while he was offering Rs 50 lakh to independent MLA Stephenson to get him to vote for the TDP-BJP candidate in the elections to the Telangana Legislative Council. nbsp;

Is KCR Feeling Insecure?

Telangana caretaker CM KCR is getting ready for the public meeting in Kosgi in Kodangal constituency.  It is known that Kodangal is the constituency of Congress leader Revanth Reddy so, he gave a call to the people to conduct rallies of protest towards KCR on the same day. Everybody knows the rivalry of KCR and Revanth Reddy and this development didn’t surprise anyone. 

  But the reaction of KCR to Revanth’s protest rallies is attracting huge criticism. KCR asked the police department that there should be no protests are rallies against the TRS government. So, the police department has imposed 144 section and deployed thousands of police personnel to control the protesting crowd.  The police have arrested Revanth Reddy at 3 AM in the morning and he has been taken to Shamshabad police station.  The police have also arrested a few other Congress, TDP leaders.  

  This development attracting huge criticism.  It is quite common that the opposition parties protest against the ruling government.  But imposing 144 section for conducting political meetings is indicating KCR’s sense of insecurity.  It seems he is worried that the Mahakutami is giving a tough fight so he doesn’t want their protests to grab the attention of the people and the media.
