Run DMC: “Down With The King” (1993)

-DMC’s Back To Hell era (1991) wasn’t kind to them. No gold certification, three singles that failed the chart, and critically-panned reviews could’ve have deemed them all but over. I emphasize the word ‘but’. When they returned with 1993′s Down With The King, it saw them back on the radar. Their next three singles “Ooh, Whatcha’ Gonna’ Do”, “Can I Get It, Yo”, and “Down With The King” charted and I do remember all three got radio airplay (New York City’s Hot 97 took care of us). Those would be the last I’ve heard of Run DMC on the airwaves and they’ve made the deepest impression on me. Not only did this single go gold (500,000 copies sold), it also featured many of hip-hop’s biggest names at the time. Eazy-E, Redman, Kris Kross, Jermaine Dupri, Onyx, Salt-N-Pepa, KRS-One, EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, MC Lyte, Kid Capri, Das EFX, P.M. Dawn and Naughty by Nature all show up for the video and is a shining example of the great ol’ days of the golden era. Let’s not forget Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth who also contribute rhymes to “Down With The King”.

Wait a minute...KRS-One and PM Dawn appeared in a video together? How did they end up tolerating each other?
