I´ve been to the city of Karlsruhe yesterday. A beautyfull city in southwestern Germany around 2 hours by train from Frankfurt.
The castle of Karlsruhe. The city was planned around this castle and its park. Many streets of the city radiate from the central tower of the castle.

Queen Victoria as Crown Princess of Sweden by Otto Propheter (oil on canvas, 1902)
This is the future Queen Victoria at the age of 40 on a visit to her German parental home in Karlsruhe. She is depicted standing upright with a serious look.
The portrait was probably painted as she celebrated the 50th jubilee of her father, Fredrik I, as Grand Duke of Baden.
Queen Victoria was known for her loyalty and her discipline. She suffered from bronchial problems, and therefore spent much of her time abroad. To placate criticism of her long stays overseas, she had Solliden Palace built on Öland in 1906 in order to have a healthy retreat closer to hand.
The portrait hangs in Princess Sibylla's Apartments at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, which is not a public space. Another portrait of Queen Victoria produced by the same artist hangs in the public Bernadotte Gallery.

Apparently there's 20 childhood drawings by Caroline of Baden including one of her twin sister. ilab<dot>org/assets/catalogues/KROMP_precious_books_high<dot>pdf
Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if the portrait is meant to be the one of the girl sitting on the chair or a different one, but in any case they are very pretty:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Daniela Kromp's Precious and Unique Books, the PDF anon linked:
Princess Caroline of Baden made the major part of these drawings at the ages between eleven and fifteen, when she lived in Karlsruhe, where she received sound artistic education. One of her teachers at that time was court painter Philipp Jakob Becker (1763-1829). The quality of Caroline's earlier drawings present here is on a very high level for her young age. Martha Schad states in 2015: "Caroline carried a sketch block with her most of the time, even when she got older, though apparently none of her drawings are preserved." (Bayerns Königinnen, chapter 5). One sanguine drawing is signed and dated by Caroline's twin sister, Katharina Amalie Christiane Luise von Baden (1776-1823): "Amélie P. de Bade, Carlsrouhe ce 9 Jullier [sic] 1787". The present drawings predominantly include self portraits as well as other portraits, portrait studies and depictions of women and children, some in the style of Angelica Kauffmann. The collection also includes a stunning pencil portrait Caroline made of her twin sister Amalie. One pencil drawing depicts the Merkurtempel [Temple of Mercury], an artificial ruin in the garden of Schwetzingen Palace. One of the later works, again a pencil drawing, depicts a view of the garden of Nymphenburg Palace, seen from the south wing of the palace, where Caroline's bedroom and audience chamber were located.

Tumblr media
GO OFF FIDÈS YOU TELL HIM
Tumblr media
“i just wanted to get revenge on this ONE guy”
“well LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE. IT’S OBVIOUSLY GOTTEN A BIT OUT OF HAND”
(and of course, a delicious bit of irony: when jean DID have a chance to get his revenge back in act 3, he did not take it, so…)
Tumblr media
maybe, just maybe, everything will work out!
Tumblr media
berthe’s genius idea: suicide-bombing the palace.
because that’s totally normal
Tumblr media
she’s traumatized and she still doesn’t even know the half of it yet
Tumblr media
dreaming of a better life awaiting them… and maybe, just maybe, everything will work out!

Tumblr media

but yeah. SO COOL.

The Amber Room was a gift to Tsar Peter the First of Russia. The gift was delivered to the Tsar by Frederick William I, King of Prussia(1716). In 1755, supplemented with Italian stone mosaics, the Amber Room shined in Catherine the Great's palace. In 1941, the Germans looted the amber room, which was called the seventh wonder of the world. Small parts of the room have been found, otherwise the fate of the room is a mystery.

Meripihka on miljoonia vuotta vanhaa fossiilisoitunutta pihkaa. Havupuiden tuottama pihka on yleisimmin käytössä meripihka tuotteissa.
Mitä siis huoneelle tapahtui. 1941 Saksalaisten ryöstäessä huone mitä Katariina Suuri piti itsellään. Ollaan paljon spekuloitu missä loput huoneesta on?

Who is James McConnell? 18-year-old midfielder training with Liverpool first team
Tumblr media
Who is James McConnell? 18-year-old midfielder training with Liverpool first team James McConnell has been making the most of his time since joining Liverpool, and it's no surprise that he has now been recognized as part of the first team. Alongside more experienced players, McConnell and a group of young players have been invited by Jurgen Klopp to participate in the team's pre-season training camp in Germany. Although McConnell, who is 18 years old, may not have had as much exposure at the senior level as Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, and Melkamu Frauendorf, nor does he have the football legacy of Lewis Koumas, or the high transfer fee that brought Calum Scanlon to Liverpool, those who have been closely following the Academy have always recognized McConnell's potential. He is known for his energetic and attacking style of play, and he first made an impression when he joined Liverpool's under-18 team at the age of 16 after transferring from Sunderland's U15 team. McConnell made a strong impression during his first start in the U18 Premier League North, scoring a great goal that contributed to a 2-1 victory against Stoke City in February 2021. Throughout the 2020/21 season, under the guidance of U18s coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, he consistently played at that level and showed progress, leading to him signing his first professional contract shortly after his 17th birthday in September 2021. During that season, McConnell showcased his versatility by playing in various midfield positions, both in attacking and defensive roles. He even played on the left side and scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Everton U18s in the derby match. However, it was the following season when McConnell truly excelled. He started the campaign as a key player in the central midfield for the U18s and scored in the 4-2 victory against Manchester United. His contributions extended to Liverpool's UEFA Youth League run, where he made a significant impact in the 2-1 win against Napoli, setting the tone for the team. He went on to start six out of eight games in the competition, helping Liverpool reach the quarter-finals. In addition, McConnell had the opportunity to play for the U21 side in the EFL Trophy. He played the full 90 minutes in an unusual right-back position during a narrow 1-0 defeat against Rochdale in September. Liverpool's confidence in McConnell was further demonstrated when he signed a new long-term contract the following month. He then made his debut in the Premier League 2, playing in the second half of the 2-1 victory over Everton in the mini-derby. However, McConnell experienced a setback when he suffered an injury, which kept him sidelined for several months. Fortunately, in February, he made his return to the U18s squad and immediately made an impact by scoring goals in consecutive games against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. "We have missed James when he has not been available due to injury," said Bridge-Wilkinson after an impressive showing by McConnell in a 4-0 win at Newcastle United in April. "I thought he was really good at Newcastle. Obviously he is one of the older players in our group and he played with a mature head. He has got a lot of quality and I thought he showed that." Towards the end of the U18s campaign, McConnell continued to make an impact by contributing a goal and an assist in a subsequent match. He also achieved another milestone by scoring his first goal in the Premier League 2 when he came off the bench and headed home the only goal for the U21s in their final match against Crystal Palace. With upcoming friendly matches against Karlsruhe on Wednesday and Greuther Furth the following Monday, McConnell will aim to impress Jurgen Klopp and the coaching staff in the hopes of earning playing time. Given his track record, it would not be surprising if McConnell adds another notable achievement to his growing list of accomplishments during these upcoming days. Fredrika of Baden by Joseph Karl Stieler (oil on canvas, 1826)
Fredrika Dorotea Vilhelmina of Baden was born on 12 March 1781 in Karlsruhe. King Gustav IV Adolf married her at Stockholm Palace Chapel on 31 October 1797.
The marriage was initially described as a happy one, but they divorced in 1812 – the first and only time a Swedish king and queen have divorced.
They broke up following the king's loss of Finland after the Finnish War in 1809. King Gustav IV Adolf was then arrested, deposed as king and expelled from Sweden.
Fredrika has given her name to the Norrland towns of Fredrika, Dorotea and Vilhelmina. This part of southern Swedish Lappland is unofficially known as Drottninglandet ('Queenland') in her honour.
