Happy Hanukkah 2022. As I celebrate this first day of Hanukkah, I hope people will watch this essential documentary, brilliantly made by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein. Ken Burns is known for being behind some of the best documentaries made about seismic moments in our history. This documentary is about the long centuries old hatred of Jews, a group of people because of their DNA and religion were societally or politically discriminated against. During the holocaust, all Jews in Europe were meant to murdered by the Nazis. 6 Million adults and children were murdered senselessly and brutally. As anti semitism is on the rise in the US, this documentary shows how anti semitism has always been either or small or large part of political and societal America. If we don’t understand or ignore our history, we will repeat our mistakes in the future. #theusandtheholocaust @pbs #kenburns #lynnnovick #sarahbotstein #essentialwatch #ifwedontunderstandourhistorywewillrepeatourmistakes #fightagainstdiscrimination #fightagainstantisemitism https://www.instagram.com/p/CmVR9ksuOaW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Article: ENCYCLOPEDIC ENTRY Earth Day by #NationalGeographic https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/earth-day/
#ArticleSummary: Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness about the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations. It was first organized by Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes in 1970 and has since grown into a global event with over 200 million participants in more than 140 countries. The Earth Day Network, which supports the mission of Earth Day year-round, brings together more than 20,000 partners and organizations in 190 countries. The network pursues a set of core goals including advocacy, climate change, conservation and biology, education, energy, food and agriculture, green economy, green schools, recycling and waste reduction, and sustainable development. In just 40 years, Earth Day has evolved from a single day of celebration in the US to a worldwide movement that empowers over a billion people to protect and improve the environment."
By #www.smukher2.com #www.smukher2.eu #www.smukher2.co.uk #www.smukher2.org #www.smukher2.net #smukher2 to #Everyone: "Happy Earth Day, everyone! Our planet, often referred to as the Blue Planet, is three-fourths blue and one-fourth green when viewed from space. This highlights the importance of the one-fourth land that sustains the flora and fauna crucial for our ecosystem. Initiatives like UK Royal's 'The Earthshot' spearheaded by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales Prince William and US' 'America's National Parks, America's Best Idea' showcase the importance of preserving nature, protecting non-human life, and safeguarding our land and water resources. Maintaining a delicate balance between land, water, and air is essential to combat the environmental challenges posed by human overpopulation and human induces overpollution. Let us remember that planet Earth is our only home.
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the beach in Jagannath Puri, Orissa, India, where I was captivated by the beauty of the blue skies and sea—a stunning reminder of our remarkable Blue Planet (see multiple photos attached in this post, also with mother, who is also my first and best Guru ever). This experience brought to mind, "When the blue night is over my face, on the dark side of the world in space, when I'm all alone with the stars above, you are the one I love" to quote the song 'Blue Night' by MLTR. In moments like these, I find myself wishing to freeze time in my memory, cherishing the breathtaking beauty that surrounds us. As an anonymous quote wisely states, 'Life is not measured by the breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.' Let us appreciate and protect our planet, and let's "heal the world and make it a better place" quote Michael Jackson song.

How many of you knew this song was about a female baseball fan? SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “Take Me Out to The Ballgame” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRq8AWn3oGE …Most everyone knows the chorus to this song, usually led by a loud organ after the 7th inning at baseball games everywhere. However, many people don’t know the verses, which are about an obssessive female baseball fan named Katie Casey. She’d rather go to ballgames than go out on dates with her boyfriend. When I play this song in assisted living homes it never fails to get folks roused up!
More Fun Facts:
1. The song was copyrighted in 1908 and first recorded on cylinder, making it an early example of a (pre-shellac/vinyl) “hit record.” It was also the era when sheet music was the dominant way people played music at home, and sales skyrocketed.
2. It was composed by Tin Pan Alley songwriters Jack Norworth and Albert von Tilzer (later known for “Shine on Harvest Moon”)—both of whom had never been to a baseball game up to that point.
3. My favorite sample is The Marx Brothers 1935 film, A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, when the orchestra is tricked into playing it in the middle of Verdi’s Il Trovatore Overture.

Episode 8 | War Is All Hell (1865)
youtube
Almost every day.
I saw him this morning about 8:30 coming into business
we've got so that we exchange bows and very cordial ones
I see very plainly Abraham Lincoln's dark brown face with its deep cut lines, the eyes always to me with a latent sadness in the expression...
None of the artists or pictures has caught the deep, though subtle and indirect expression of this man's face.
There is something else there.
One of the great portrait painters of two or three centuries ago is needed.
— Walt Whitman, 1863
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thomas Nast, whose work appeared in Harper’s Weekly from 1859 to 1886, has been called the “father of the American cartoon.” He elevated the nation’s hopes for the future during that time of heightened division.
In his stellar biography, Abe, David S. Reynolds quotes President Abraham Lincoln on Nast’s importance to the Union during the Civil War: “He’s been our best recruiting sergeant. His emblematic cartoons have never failed to arouse enthusiasm and patriotism, and always came when those articles were getting scarce.”
The division in Nast’s day makes today’s political skirmishing look like a sandbox quarrel.
Yet Nast’s Dec. 31, 1864, cartoon, The Union Christmas Dinner, showed what America’s mindset needed to be if the nation sought to achieve a successful integration of the Confederate states back into the Union when the war ended.
Lincoln had been reelected in November 1864, Sherman captured Savannah, Ga., in December, and Union victory under Grant’s field leadership appeared inevitable.
The president’s address to Congress on Dec. 6 established the terms he’d accept to end the war and how he planned to push through the Thirteenth Amendment to abolish slavery.
His speech to Congress made clear that his approach for reconnecting with Southerners would be through a policy of “open door” reconciliation.
Nast met with Lincoln six days after that speech.
There’s no record of what they discussed, but it’s not hard to speculate, given what the president said before and after their meeting, and what the artist created in his masterpiece.
Lincoln may have shared with Nast how best to start bridging the nation’s divide based on what he’d learned from studying the life of his hero, Thomas Jefferson, who, 63 years before, had set the standard for promoting e pluribus unum.
Begin with the poetry of Walt Whitman, who almost single-handedly helped us break away from the stodgy and pretentious traditions of rhyming schemes and sonnets as he used vivid images and common language.
Hear the sounds he made with sentences, and how he used all the tools of poetry and not just isolated formats.
Listen as he speaks the voice of mechanics and carpenters at work:
I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,
Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong,
The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam,
The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,
The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand singing on the steamboat deck

I’ve been watching Ken Burns’ Jazz for the last week or so & now I’m totally psyched to listen to jazz! So good! Glad I finally watched it!
It’s on Kanopy but make sure you have enough credits…2 per episode. You CAN have more than one library card in Kanopy & it will automatically switch when you run out of credits (many metro areas & even states have reciprocity agreements).
I used PBS Passport, which you get for a $5/month donation to your local PBS Station (they deserve it a lot more than any entertainment corporation).

We are excited to announce our new project is in post production, Bullets Over Antebellum!
A Ken Burns-style mockumentary covering the Second American Civil War.  In this cathartic and uncompromising feature-length film, we take the anxieties of many Americans and laugh at the Devil.  It is many years in the future, and we are looking back at the second American Civil War, which erupted over the issue of abortion, after the election of the first woman president.
This mockumentary film will help you enjoy your experience with Greater & Grander even more.

Benjamin Franklin was NOT a Christian via /r/atheism
Benjamin Franklin was NOT a Christian
Anyone that thinks the USA was founded as a "Christian Nation" should watch the documentary by Ken Burns on Benjamin Franklin.
https://www.pbs.org/kenburns/benjamin-franklin/
Franklin, who was raised as a Puritan, called himself a "heretic" who followed the thinkers of the Enlightenment and did not believe in the personal god of the Christians, but he did believe in a creator god (not uncommon given the state of science in the 18th century). He was certainly a theist. However, there is no way you can look at Franklin's life and think he is a Christian. Just a few of his non-Christian deeds:
The young Franklin visited prostitutes in both Philadelphia & London
Fathered a child out of wedlock
Had a common-law wife and was never married in a church
Was not a member of any church
Proved that lightning was not a punishment from the gods and could be shunted to ground by his invention of the lightning rod
Was a well-known horndog who chased after young, old, single & married women in both England & France
In the draft of the Declaration of Independence sent to him for review by Jefferson, Franklin changed the line "We hold these truths to be sacred..." to "We hold these truths to be self-evident..."
And I'll say it before anyone else - he certainly wasn't perfect. He owned & sold slaves. When younger he wrote articles against slavery, but it was not because he thought it was immoral, but rather because he didn't want more blacks brought to America. He also wrote extremely racist articles against the Native Americans, Blacks and anyone else that wasn't descended from the white English. Late in life, he certainly changed his views of slavery and wrote a petition to Congress urging abolition, but there is no getting around what he believed for most of his life. Franklin was also a terrible husband and father, not coming home from England for his daughter's wedding, the birth of his grandson, his wife's stroke or her 2nd stroke & funeral 5 years later. He never reconciled with his son, who had been a loyalist, British spy and led an armed loyalist terrorist group.
But one thing he certainly was NOT, was Christian.

Happy Hanukkah 2022. I am proud to say I’m finally doing my first Hanukkah on my own at 27. I have more than a half Ashkenazi Eastern European Jewish DNA and ancestry of a people unwanted, and discriminated against throughout history. We cannot forgot the atrocities of what the Nazis did, discriminating and murdering 6 Million Jews and 5 million prisoners of war, those socialist to gay to communist, or those helping hide Jews. With the alarming rise of anti semitism and hate crimes against Jews and Synagogues. With the Kanye Wests and Nick Fuentes with enormous social media followings who spew and promote the worst Anti Semitic, bigoted bile. I only hope people watch The US and the Holocaust by Ken Burns and appreciate history so we don’t repeat it. #happyhanukkah🕎 #happyhanukkah2022 #fightagainstantisemitism #theusandtheholocaust #kenburns #fightagainstinjustice https://www.instagram.com/p/CmVPks4uq9z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
