Something about Tendou usually being pretty level headed and calculated but his desperation to protect Hiyori leads him to think a suicide mission is the best course of action. And wanting to keep this plan a secret from Kagami bc he probably knows Kagami would try to stop him

He's so confidant that this is a good idea that he's willing to leave Jyuka alone! Making him calling Hyori his "only" sister that little bit more sad

But Renge of course tells Kagami bc this is not a rational plan and there's no guarantee it will lead to the results Tendou wants anyways

Kagami snapping at Tendou and going "hey aren't you the guy that protects all life on Earth? that guy with an ego the size of the sun?? that guy who pushes me to be better bc he's constantly outdoing me in the hero department??? WHERE'S YOUR RAGE!?" is a great culmination of his "grow a spine" arc. Like he did NOT go through all that character development just for Tendou to act like he would've at the beginning of the show

I’m past the halfway point of Kabuto now and I think one of the most important things I can say about it is that if your analysis of Tendou leaves out Hiyori or Jyuka, then you lose a lot of what grounds him to the actual events happening around him. Sure, he’s this supposedly chosen warrior who’s really good in a fight and who’s like perfect at everything he does. But he’s Only those things and he becomes very hollow if you leave out how much he cares for both Hiyori and Jyuka and how much they end up grounding him to the more normal human parts of his life.

alright final thoughts:

im very bad at ranking what my top 5 or top 10 kamen rider/toku in general shows are because almost all the shows ive seen have things i think are good and fun and i love them and enjoy them in different ways yknow! i dont think kabuto would be in my top 5 if i ever made a list, but i did really honestly enjoy kabuto. it took me a long time to watch it i think i mightve started watching it in 2021? maybe towards the end of the year im not sure but i know its been one ive been watching for a long time and i am very fond of the characters and i know ill continue to be fond of them in the future for sure, i had a fun time watching the show and seeing what bizarre nonsense happened to the cast

im not about to act like i understood kabuto overall and i know thats a common thing to say about the show which makes sense after watching it like lmao yeah i see why people might not like this or say it makes no sense because a lot of it didnt make sense to me either but the thing is throughout the show and especially towards the end i could like see the outline and vague shape of themes but i felt muddled in being able to fully understand those themes and feel like i didnt really in the end 100% get what those themes might have been trying to say beyond messages about humanity having the capacity for good and changing for the better and of course messages about family and love with tendou being so devoted to both kagami and his sisters. there for sure is a part of the show near the end where it feels like everything just kind of goes off the rails and things are just happening rather than any semblance of plot, but i did like the last episodes and the last battle was especially good, the one year later ending was a little confusing but overall i felt like the ending fit the show well enough. kamen rider kabuto is a show that i have watched and tendou is unkillable and although he is insufferable i do love him

Wasn't a lot of Tendou's actions motivated by protecting Hiyori ? I think a lot of his internal sense of right and wrong comes from what benefits those he cares about. Jyuka, Hiyori and even Kagami

So, I’m updating the Age Sheet to include Phase 1, because I realized it was probably going to be easier to have all of those in one place. Unlike the Viewing Order, it doesn’t have to have as much specialization.

Right now, I’m working my way through Kabuto’s characters... and discovered something.

You know how I get on about which characters are the same age and stuff?

So, the chart starts in 1993, because that seemed like the most convenient place when I first made it - it was a good distance away, and it’s when both Philip and Kouta were born, so I decided on then. Turns out that Jyuka’s the same age as them!

Takumi, Tendou, and Kagami are also the same age as each other, all being born in 1985.

Oh I just remembered a fun prompt. Tendou & Dybowski siblings meeting each other

"Wow, I love your outfits!" Tendou overheard Jyuka say from where he was mixing ingredients for the next dish, La Salle still much the same as from nearly 20 years ago.

"Thank you!" said two voices in unison, and for some reason, Tendou immediately didn't trust the people talking.

He watched them like as a hawk while they ate, and while they praised his food immensely, he was sure they were up to no good, or at the very least, not being entirely truthful.

Kabuto is in the books! It was. hm. well it certainly wasn't boring! Exhausting definitely. It kinda mentally breaks you halfway and you just kinda accept what's happening (sure drive into that solar eclipse to reach your Worm sister and Worm clone at the edge of time and space, makes sense). BUT it keeps you engaged by having a lot of genuine heart behind each character (a lot of it was men protecting the girls and women they care about, ya know Tendou with Jyuka+Hiyori, Daisuke with Gon, hell even Tsurugi with Misaki, the latter I did not expect to be so cute yet heartbreaking). Tendou especially was a fantastic protag, I've never encountered a protag quite like him honestly. I love that he seems so unflappable and aloof at first but gradually we see him be vulnerable emotionally and even makes irrational decisions. Although he's still OP as fuck, hence why everything didn't go to shit at the end when it definitely would have with any other protag. But again it's not really an issue because your brain is mush by the end so you don't care. You WILL care about his relationship with Kagami though because they are so In Love and Yaoi (loved Tendou being the main driving force behind Kagami's arc of "stop being an indecisive pussy and go with your gut" and Kagami, in return, stopped Tendou from going through with his suicide mission to rescue Hiyori by yelling some sense into him, something he did not have the balls to do before meeting Tendou).

Also a lot of shit was just plain weird and fucked up in a delightfully entertaining way (the Worms, the Hoppers, Tsurugi in general what the fuck). And some funny bits as well! (that Iron Chef homage did NOT need to be a two parter though INOUE).

In summary, I highly recommend it! A truly unique viewing experience. But Watch Out

the meteor landed in 1999 i wouldve been one year old...

still dont really understand if the worms are life forms from a different planet brought over on the meteor or if they come from some kind of source of life that was on the meteor and upon crashing on earth they came into being. i doubt were going to get an answer but also im just putting too much scientific thought into one of the most ridiculous random bullshit happens [affectionately] kamen rider shows

the opening of this episode is interesting because were getting flashbacks of very early kabuto and its interesting for me to see the aspects of the early show which i really liked, the kind of horror elements of the show that i feel like kind of tapered off towards the middle of the show and now i wonder if were reintroducing that kind of existential dread as we finish the show. the last episode certainly had that kind of horror of existing at all

well now everyone just has worm detection necklaces i guess idk how they made that happen but okay

not gorou chan is so mad about the idea of zect disbanding which is typical business guy behavior like the threat is gone and we are no longer needed? no i want more power
