Per Jolant, the uncle/niece one is a retelling of Phantom of the Opera. Given that incest is such a main component of Gothic fiction, I decided to go all in and make incest legal there. As for the father/daughter one, I came up with that one after reading They Call Her Dana, which has accidental incest subtext at the very end, and I thought what if the heroine had actually married her father and he found out after the marriage? Then I combined that with a retelling of Allerleirauh.

Both those relationships/stories sound so rich and interesting. I am setting creation and energy vibes your way. Keep working on these!

I'm currently creating an original fantasy universe, and I have just realized that half of the main romantic pairings I've come up with are incestuous. Atlantis, which is Greek mythology inspired, has cousins as the main pairing, Kesseti, which is Arabian-inspired, has half-siblings, and Jolant, which is Gothic fantasy, has an uncle/niece pairing, a in-universe historical brother/sister pairing, and a father/daughter pairing. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer.
Wow, this sounds so cool! Ambitious and amazing. I really wish you all the best in putting this together because I can't wait to be able to experience the final product.
I would love to hear more about Jolant!!!

Jolantean characters: Countess Blackthorn.
For @shipcestuous , this is the heroine of the Phantom of the Opera retelling I mentioned.
From the Daily Jolantean Gazette.
Countess Alisette Blackthorn is the current talk of high society in the North Jolantean city of Dadbrokie, a fine young woman with a bright career of her. She is recently wed to her uncle Count Richard Blackthorn, so we are quite sure that her name will not be changing any time soon.
This talented young lady was born in the moors of the North, at the ancestral home of the Blackthorns, Blackthorn Manor, to a loving father and Atlantean - born mother, their only child. As such, there was no brother for her to wed, and when her mother died in childbirth some three years later, her father went quite mad, so the young Viscountess had only her uncle for company.
She took up ballet at the young age of thirteen, for, in her own words "I was very bored and I wished to do something with my life. We all know that a lady cannot host tea or balls with a father who is raving mad."
Her teachers saw the potential in her, and now she is a prima ballerina at Dadbrokie's Opera House- well, their second Opera House, given that the first has been recently burnt down.
_______
I wrote Alisette's character bio like this because in-universe, she's the sort of person who would be written about in a newspaper.

Jolantean marriage part 2.
With the Karineans behaving as they did, conflict was inevitable.
It came some hundred years later, when King Andrew of Karine's daughter, Princess Rowene, was cursed to bring about the death of her father.
Such a thing is horrible in any country, particularly when your father is a good man, such as King Andrew was, so the daughter was sent to her relatives for safety.
Now King Andrew was a more tolerant man than his subjects, and had wed a lady from Jolant- her name was struck from history books in Karine after the "incident", as they called it. So the princess was sent to Jolant to live. Years passed, the princess grew into a fine and good-hearted young lady, and her father began looking for a new wife. As fate would have it, he went to Jolant to find one.
He met his daughter - unknowingly they fell in love and they married, and returned to to Karine in great happiness. Eventually they discovered their relationship to one another, and as they were in love, the king had it proclaimed that his daughter had caught sickness and died, so they would not be found out. It did not last. The truth of their relationship was found out, and the princess was burnt at the stake as a witch. The king, heartbroken, committed suicide, and the princess went down in Karinean history books as a great villain. To us, she is a martyr, and women name their daughters for her.
Since then, the relationship between the two countries has not been the best, although I have just learned that Prince Henri of Karine, heir to the throne, has become engaged to our Grand Duchess Roxane, sister of the current Duchess Ravensbrook. I do believe there is a change in the air.

Jolantean characters: Rowene February.
Rowene February is a ballet-dancer in the opera house at the moment, as she has no plans of doing anything else.
She was Jolantean-born, in the eastern part of Jolant. She wasn't born a human, but a bear. She was turned into a human as a child by a witch practicing her magic.
I took inspiration for Rowene's backstory from the 1978 Russian fairytale film An Ordinary Miracle, and my headcanon for Jolantean magic is that it contrasts to Karinean magic. Karinean magic is easy to use, but Jolantean magic, when used, causes side effects.
The side effect Rowene received was the inability to speak. She has been mute ever since, and speaks by ballet mine to her friends and writing to everyone else.
After she was turned into a human, the witch, feeling sorry for her, took her in and taught her how to be a human, and her parents were shot by a hunter, so she's never gone back home.
My original intent for Rowene was to pair her with Prince Magnus of Karine, in a novella that would resolve the conflict between Jolant and Karine. However, one day I was brainstorming and I thought, "What if I swapped Rowene and Lisella around and gave Rowene Lisella's storyline?" And the storyline for Lisella's tale changed to reflect the heroine.
More on that in another post.
Rowene is shy and retiring, but has a good heart and a kind soul. She also owns a black cat for luck, named Edgar.
