very fine morning sun out and F45° at 8 am making extracts from Cochranes’ journey vol. 1 till breakfast at 8 50 to 9 25 A- had Mr. Horner – from 9 25 to 10 making extracts from C- vol. 1 and went down to Holt (James) at 10 till 10 50 – he would rather have Garforths’ 8 horse power engine than Rowbottoms’ 6 horse power Engine – H- and Booth and Garforth all to meet here at 10 am on Monday next, and all to be then settled – Holt would have me put up my own head geer, and let G- find only the wheels and pedestals – George Naylor did H-‘s head geer on a better plan than [?] to drawn by Garforth – all to be settled on Monday – coal sheds, staith or pit hill and engine house and everything – H- against making Listerwick Lowmien a hurrying gate – there would be coal-dust and sludge that would always be in the way of the water running and would want constantly cleaning out – this to be considered about – he would drive up 2 heads from the engine pit into the centre of John Oates’ Ing meadow (opposite his house) and from there bring them forward to the centre of Listerwick pit – there would only be about 70 yards driving in the old works – Mr. Rawson has had some conversation with Stocks – R- said
SH:7/ML/E/21/0060
that his colliery had only cleared a hundred pounds last year – I asked H- when he would turn on the stream of water we had so long talked of – answer – as soon as he had bottomed the pit and driven up his coal-head in about 6 weeks – Mr. Waddington driving an open tail coal-loose that will open on to the canal (which will convey coal from there by water to Dule mill (near Sturk or Turk bridge beyond Sowerby bridge) in 2 hours – this mill burns £600 or £700 a year – Mr. Thomas Edlestone is taking an active part and will do his best to manage his uncle Mr. Holmes and Waddington is helping – wont sell the coal he is loosing to Holmes unless he settles with the Holts, and so they shall manage him – there is therefore some hope again of his coming forward for a bid at Wilsons’ loose – I said they ought to keep Stocks, at Ambler thorn whatever they did – not let him come on this side – the Clarkes are determined to sell so S- will get loosed that way in his own Ambler thorn quarters – wrote all but the 1st 2 lines of today, and went out 11 10 – to Robert Mann + 4 (Jack Green better and at his work) Robert + 3 taking out the continuation of drain for the road water near the great sycamore and 2 doing up the road down the embankment side to the laburnum gate – had Booth at the great sycamore – has been very poorly – vales the 20 yards no! 17 as measured this afternoon when laid of drain-bottom that George Naylors’ cart brought this morning from Sun wood quarry at 1 ½ per running yard (2ft. broad) getting and loadening saying that the loadening was worth a farthing of the price (1/4d. of 1 1/2d. per yard) – told B- to be here at 10 am on Monday to meet Holt and Garforth, and B- to let G- know and also to write today by post to Mr. John Rowbottom machine maker Dean Clough to say he was authorized by me to inform R- that I should not take his 6 horse power engine – told B- to see after the plasterers works in the Casino, and to give Shaw a good blow-up about it – then with Robert about there till [?] after 12 – and then at the work bridge pothering about till long after 2 – then came in – found A- with Bancroft who agreed to take Cordingleys’ farm 15DW. and the homestead at £35 per annum – would rather not take the 2 flashes (11DW.) – the fact is, he has not capital to manage so much, and is right to keep within his compass – advise A- to keep these 2 fields in her own hand a while and if Bancroft can farm them for her for the present – till we have time to see what will be best to be done – James Bentley came about the Landymere stone at 1 55 – I thought A- had better see him without having me present this time – so I went into the west tower for a few minutes and then till 2 25 wrote the last 17 lines of today – just before coming in Holt and George Naylor came to me at the Rockbridge – had news – they were all in good spirits a couple of hours ago – but now the bottom plank but one of the tubbing was forced out of its place by the face of the water, and all to undo again – G.N-‘s plan was to put 5in. thick plank at the bottom and gradually thinner towards the top to 4in. thick – sawn out of timber – I sent GN. back to get the tubbing out again immediately – and then just spoke to Holt – proposed making a strong skeleton frame or cradle to be fixed tight in the pit 1st and then fix the tubbing to this framing – told H- to think of this, and be here early tomorrow morning – It just occurs to me that the pit being oblong we cannot easily make the tubbing strong enough the tubbing part if it cannot be round must be oval – had just written so far at 2 40 then had A- a few minutes – then at colliers and at the coal trade till 4 35 - had Mr. Crossland junior at 3 ¾ said I had sent for him – no! I really had not but concluded John Booth had made some mistake – mentioned Felix – George had ridden him this afternoon with A- said I would send the horse down tomorrow morning from 10 to 12 – Mrs. Crossland wishes me to go and look at her furnishing – civilly excused myself – but said I would ask Miss Walker to go with me and would go sometime very busy just now - § at colliers and the coal trade till 4 35 – William Mallinson came – but sent word I had seen and given orders to Booth – M- might do anything he liked to the garden – as to the windows Booth had orders – the only thing was to keep to the estimate – Reading § respecting tubbing etc. – washed and then went out went out at 4 ¾ with Robert Mann and William at the road embankment drain, the other 3 gone down to the meer to do another coat of puddle – George Thomas with my cart at Mitham carting stone for the mistal but called off in the afternoon to take slates from the conery to Staups – George Naylors’ cart brought door tops etc. from Dobsons’ this morning for Mitham mistal and wallstone this afternoon from Hipperholme quarry 3 loads + the 17 loads drain-bottoms from sun wood quarry this morning (vid. line 14 last p.) – sauntering about and talking to John in the farmyard till came in at 7 – dressed – dinner at 7 ¼ - coffee – A- read French – I read the newspaper – left A- cutting out frocks for the school and I came upstairs at 10 – then ¾ hour making extracts from vol. 1 Cochranes’ journey – then A- came and sat talking till 11 ½ at which hour F32° very fine day

Educare: criar, nutrir, alimentar.
Ex-ducare: extraer, sacar, hacer salir.
Educador/a artístico/a
Artista educador/a
Arteducador/a

¿Qué es la educación artística?
Grandes clásicos de la educación artística:
Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805).
Juego = Creación.
Carl R. Rogers (1902-1987).
No directividad.

Experimental 1918 Winchester .50 Calibre Anti-Tank Rifle
In early December 1918, Winchester engineer Edwin Pugsley filed a patent protecting a bolt action .50 calibre anti-tank rifle with a rotary locking bolt. Initially designed as a test rifle for the .50 calibre round that was being developed, the gun was informally tested by the US Army. Designated officially the ‘Model 1918 .50 Calibre High Power Bolt Action Swivel Gun’.
Pugsley’s patent explains that the .50 calibre rifle’s bolt has limited longitudinal and rotary movement despite the size of its cartridge. The bolt appears to have a 90º counterclockwise throw. The object of the design being to increase the rifle’s rate of aimed fire. This was achieved by allowing the rifle to be cycles without the operator having to break his firing grip as the trigger and grip are mounted directly to the bolt.
The rifle had a gravity assisted top-loading magazine, aligned slightly off-centre. The prototype has an unusual butt stock profile, resembling that of a schuetzen target rifle. The rifle was chambered in the .50 BMG round developed by Winchester, it was capable of perforating 22mm of face-hardened armour steel plate at 91m and 19 mm at 500m.
The rifle has a tubular receiver reminiscent of the Winchester-Burton Machine Rifle. Pugsley’s rifle uses a M1911-style pistol grip shape, complete with grip panels, which also acts as the weapon’s bolt. It has the same standard M1917 Enfield flip-up rear sight which was also utilised in the Winchester-Burton Machine Rifle prototype. The final photograph (see image #5) shows the weapon with its recoil mitigating, presumably, test mount and a long, high mounted, optic suggesting Pugsley intended the rifle for longer range sniping or perhaps an anti-materiel role.
The rifle has an extremely large coil spring surrounding the barrel near the trunion attached to a recoiling test mount. The example pictured, currently held by the Cody Firearms Museum, has a cracked receiver which may have been the result of testing.
Arguably, the design was well ahead of time with an innovative action it seems that the war ended before further development could be completed. Pugsley’s design is certainly more ambitious than the German T-Gewehr. The .50 BMG round would later debut in the John Browning-designed M1921 which later evolved into the Browning M2.
Pugsley joined Winchester in 1911, as an apprentice engineer and worked in a dozen postions during his long career before retiring as Vice President of Research and director of Olin Industries in 1950. He died in November 1975, aged 90.
