Memorie Della Collina

Su Instagram mi è stato mandato uno di quei template da condividere con le serie tv. E tra la scelte c'è questa: rispetto ad altre dello stesso periodo (inizio anni 2000m la serie è andata in onda dal 2003 al 2012), è probabilmente meno famosa, ma One Tree Hill ha ancora dei fanche la ricordano con affetto. La serie, creata da Mark Schwahn, ambientata nella fittizia città di Tree Hill in Carolina del Nord e segue le vite di due fratellastri, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) e Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), il cui rapporto evolve, nel corso della serie, da acerrimi nemici a fratelli devoti. Tra gli altri protagonisti, Peyton Sawyer, interpretata da Hilarie Burton, Haley James, interpretata da Bethany Joy Lenz e Brooke Davis, interpretata da Sophia Bush (che sono i personaggi nella foto).

Tra le chicche della serie, due musicali: è stata l'unica serie, insieme a The Sopranos, ad avere il placet direttamente dai Led Zeppelin per l'utilizzo di un loro brano (in questo caso, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You); lo stesso titolo della serie, One Tree Hill, venne a Schwahn mentre ascoltava The Joshua Tree degli U2, che hanno una canzone dello stesso titolo. La quale è un gioiello dalla storia triste: One Tree Hill è infatti il nome di una località non lontana da Auckland da cui proveniva Greg Carroll, uno degli assistenti di Bono, morto in un incidente stradale in Irlanda mentre guidava la motocicletta nel 1986, dopo pochi giorni dall'inizio delle registrazioni del memorabile disco. Il brano è famoso perchè, ricorda Brian Eno, Bono lo riuscì a cantare per intero in una unica, toccante, registrazione, con il famoso finale cantato in falsetto.

Landline is a short documentary about the only helpline in the UK for gay farmers. Through a series of recorded telephone conversations and reconstructive visuals, the film uses the helpline as a lens through which to view the experiences of LGBTQ people in the British farming community. 

In a world that prizes traditional masculinity and in which ideas of ancestry are fundamental, being gay can be isolating. Suicide rates are extremely high in both young farmers and gay men in particular, and combining these can be a recipe for tragedy. But there are also thriving gay scenes in the most rural of towns, stories of unexpected friendships and relationships, and moments so unlikely that they could only happen in real life. Candid, intimate and shocking, Landline is a snapshot of a group of people bound together by circumstance but so often isolated from each other.

Meditation: Do you pay attention to warning signs? Many fatalities could be avoided if people took the warning signs seriously. When the religious leaders demanded a sign from Jesus, he gave them a warning to avert spiritual disaster. It was characteristic of the Jews that they demanded "signs" from God's messengers to authenticate their claims. When the religious leaders pressed Jesus to give proof for his claims he says in so many words that he is God's sign and that they need no further evidence from heaven than his own person.

The people of Nineveh were saved because they accepted the sign and message of Jonah

The Ninevites recognized God's warning when Jonah spoke to them, and they repented (Jonah 3:1-10). And the Queen of Sheba recognized God's wisdom in Solomon (1 Kings 10:1-10). Jonah was God's sign and his message was the message of God for the people of Nineveh. Unfortunately the religious leaders were not content to accept the signs right before their eyes. They had rejected the message of John the Baptist and now they reject Jesus as God's Anointed One (Messiah) and they fail to heed his message.

Jesus' death and resurrection brings us new ever lasting life

Simeon had prophesied at Jesus' birth that he was "destined for the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that inner thoughts of many will be revealed" (Luke 2:34- 35). Just as Jonah spent 3 days in the belly of the whale before he delivered the Ninevites from death and destruction, Jesus likewise spent 3 days in the tomb before rising again to save us from sin and death and bring us new life. Jesus confirmed his message of good news and deliverance with many miracles in preparation for the greatest sign of all - his resurrection on the third day.

The Lord Jesus came to set us free from slavery to sin and hurtful desires. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit he pours his love into our hearts that we may understand his will for our lives and walk in his way of holiness (Romans 5:5). God searches our hearts, not to condemn us, but to show us where we need his saving grace and help. He calls us to seek him with true repentance, humility, and the honesty to see our sins for what they really are - a rejection of his love and will for our lives.

Listen to God's word of wisdom and you will find true life and everlasting joy

God will transform us if we listen to his word and allow his Holy Spirit to work in our lives. Ask the Lord to renew your mind and to increase your thirst for his wisdom. James says that the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity (James 3:17). A double-minded person cannot receive this kind of wisdom. The single of heart desire one thing alone - God's pleasure. God wants us to delight in him and to know the freedom of his truth and love. Do you thirst for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14)?

"Lord Jesus, give me a heart that loves what is good and in accord with your will and fill me with your wisdom that I my understand your ways. Give me the grace and the courage to reject whatever is evil and contrary to your will."

hearing test

“At the judgment, the citizens of Nineveh will rise along with the present generation, and they will condemn it. For at the preaching of Jonah they reformed, but you have a greater than Jonah here.” —Luke 11:32

When Jonah spoke, 120,000 wicked Ninevites listened and repented (Jon 3:10; 4:11). When Solomon spoke, the queen of the south “came from the farthest corner of the world to listen” (Lk 11:31). When Jesus speaks through the Church, in the Mass, through the Bible, and in our families, do we listen? How many of us are devoting ourselves to the apostles’ instructions, that is, the teachings of the Church? (see Acts 2:42) Are we reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church? Do we bother to find out what the Pope is teaching? Do we receive Jesus and His Word at Mass as much as possible? Do we use One Bread, One Body to help us sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to His words at daily Mass? (see Lk 10:39) Because we take the Bible “not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God” (1 Thes 2:13), do we make time to read the Bible daily? Are we open to the Lord speaking to us through our family and the people we see each day? Is there any subject that we will not allow even God to mention to us?

Ask the Lord for the grace to listen to Him in your most difficult circumstance. Repent and feel your spiritual ears open. Deny yourself and hear Jesus’ words: “Blest are your ears because they hear. I assure you, many a prophet and many a saint longed to...hear what you hear but did not hear it” (Mt 13:16-17). “Let him who has ears heed the Spirit’s word” (Rv 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22).

Prayer:  Father, may I hear that You are Lord alone, and may I love You with all my heart (Dt 6:4-5).

Promise:  “It was for liberty that Christ freed us. So stand firm, and do not take on yourselves the yoke of slavery a second time!” —Gal 5:1

Praise:  When Jonathan truly heard the Word of God speak to him, he became a new man in Christ.
