Jimmy Stewart – wearing quite the chronograph – with Hedy Lamarr in a studio still from the movie “Come Live with Me,” released on January 29th 1941. Two months later Mr. Stewart was drafted and assigned to the Army Air Corps. On June 10 of that same year, Ms. Lamarr submitted a patent for “Radio Frequency Hopping” a system upon which all modern communication is based.

Anyway, this is it!] 🌲 Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 51: It's a Wonderful Life 🦌 And here we are again, at the end of the marathon, with the best holiday film of all time (in my opinion). Surprising no one yet again, the top place goes to Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". Initially not very successful in theaters or reviews (though appreciated by the critics who did recognize, and nominated for multiple Oscars), it was only decades later it became recognized widely as the classic it is, even as one of the best of all time, according to many. I already knew the amazing restoration and 4K looked great, but wow can I really appreciate it on the setup I have now. Aside from some of the hokey angels/heaven effects (and writing) at the beginning, it is truly one of the masterpieces of filmmaking. So that's that! Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! It's fairly well known that the reason Frank Capra's IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE became a modern classic is because it was shown on local television channels to the Baby Boom generation, who embraced it for whatever reason(s) you might posit, the most popular being some kind of post-Vietnam longing for the post-War euphoria of The Greatest Generation. It's the same reason why Hitchcock's VERTIGO ousted CITIZEN KANE as Greatest Film of All Time 10 years ago, after CK's 70-year reign: Vertigo was also shown on local TV channels to the Baby Boomers, who embraced it as well, for again, whatever reasons you might posit. I think part of the appeal of IAWF to the Boomers was that the half-hour fantasy sequence in the final act, in which Jimmy Stewart’s George Bailey witnesses his life had he not been born, isn’t so much a throwback to Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as it is a proto-Twilight Zone episode. Come to think of it, Vertigo is also Hitchcock's most Twilight Zone-y film, especially with those surreal Saul Bass graphic sequences. I remember seeing both films multiple times when i was a kid growing up in NJ, with 3 local New York City TV stations showing great stuff like that (the Universal monster movies, The Little Rascals, Three Stooges, etc.). BTW, both films were both box-office, and critical, FAILURES when they originally came out.
