And some of the most famed ones will be from the lens of boundary-pushing Parisian celebrity photographer Michel Haddi. The Legend “When I first moved to New York in the early 90s in Chelsea I used to live on 22nd Street and 8th Avenue. Did I ever know I would be living next to Debbie Harry? Never! It was a chance in a million I suppose. The first time we met was for a shoot for ‘British Vogue’ at the ‘Algonquin Hotel’. I arrived with a huge bouquet of flowers just to say “whaoua”. We were doing a spread of eight pages, me being me and being on another planet, I shaved with a blunt electric razor and I looked like a boy who has been clawed by a werewolf. Anyway, the story was a success and we started to hang out. I suppose I did have a big crush on Debbie; we used to have a bite to eat for dinner around 11th Street and 9th Avenue with a dear friend Stephan Sprouse, a maverick designer. Stephan was very close to Debbie and we ended up doing a few more shoots for ‘German Bazaar’.” - Michel Haddi, Photographer, Author and Publisher ‘The Legend’. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #paris #benlee #hoteldesbains #photogrpahertothestars #iconicimagery #author #publisher #thelegend #debbieharry #icon #michelhaddi (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLtjbuIl3L2/?igshid=cq15qz3xl156

The Legend Michel Haddi was born in Paris in 1956 to an Algerian-Moroccan mother and a Turkish soldier father he “never knew”. His mother worked in a fancy Parisian hotel and brought home discarded fashion magazines which enthralled him and seeded his imagination. At 18 he had two jobs, one as a waiter in a gay restaurant where he got to see so many of the stars of the time and as a night watchman at the ‘Hotel des Bains’ where, with nothing much to do, he formulated his plan to become a photographer. A couple of years later he moved to Saudi Arabia and after meeting photographer Ben Lee. Haddi became his assistant and moved to London. Within a few years he was on his own, shooting fashion spreads for ‘Vogue Italia’ and then for most ‘Vogue’ editions around the world and most of the other top magazines and fashion houses. Not content with being one of the world’s foremost fashion photographers and almost preternaturally bored he ping ponged between Europe and LA and NY, photographing luminaries and anonymous characters, until ultimately buying a house in Marrakech and then relocating to London where he now has his own book publishing company.
