woah!!! how did you do that fatou gifset? may i request a tutorial?
omg of course! i’m going to just give you an explanation of how i put it all together, for the sake of not making this a billion years long i’ll assume you’re already comfy with making, coloring, exporting gifs etc.
if you’re curious how to make gifs like the one below from this set of mine, a lil tutorial will be under the cut!
Tumblr media
ok so you can do this with any number of gifs you want, a 4 by 3 grid is what I went with because 3 by 3 will mean that you’ll struggle to keep it under the 10mb limit.
If you’re making a 4 by 3 grid, you’ll need 12 square gifs that are 135 by 135 pixels and one 4 by 3 aspect ratio gif for the big gif at the end, which will be 540 by 405 pixels. For a 3 by 3 grid, use 9 square gifs that are 180 by 180 pixels and one that’s 540 by 540 for the big gif.
I made all of my gifs and sharpened them, but didn’t do any coloring yet. You can color first but I liked waiting to do it all at once, I feel like it helps it look cohesive.
Whatever way you make gifs, you want to make sure all the small gifs have the same number of frames. For my set I made all of my gifs 30 frames but you could probably get away with a little more while staying under 10mb for the finished product.
You might prefer to skip this step to save some time, but I exported all of my sharpened, not colored gifs, then opened all of those .gif files in photoshop, just to make sure there were the same frames for all of them. Regardless of if you do this or not, you will want all 10 or 13 of your gifs as smart objects.
If you have exported them, all you need to do to make your layers a smart object is to switch to the timeline (the purple bars stacked in the timeline window instead of a bunch of little squares of your frames.), select all your layers, right click, and say convert to smart object. Make sure you switch to the timeline before you convert to smart object or the gif won’t play.
Tumblr media
Once I have all of my smart objects, I take one of my small gifs and increase the canvas size to 540 by 405.
Tumblr media
Then go through to each gif file, copy the smart object, and paste it into that large canvas. Photoshop should snap your gifs to be aligned with each other when you rearrange stuff. Put all the gifs touching each other. Don’t bother tryin to leave 5px borders, we’ll deal with that later!
When you paste your big gif, make sure to move the start of it to the end of the others, so the grid of small gifs plays, then the big gif by itself.
Once all the gifs are pasted into the same file, rearrange the grid however you like. You should be seeing something like this:
Tumblr media
Now is when I did coloring. I put adjustment layers for exposure, vibrance, etc. on the very top so they affected all the gifs. Then if particular gifs are too dark, too orange, not as vibrant as the others, etc. you can adjust individual gifs by clicking the smart object of the gif you want to fix in the layers panel, then going up to image > adjustments and chose what adjustment you want to make. This creates a smart filter on that one gif, just like when you sharpen a smart object.
Tumblr media
Once your coloring and placement of your gifs is to your liking, select all your gifs including the big gif, and right click, convert to smart object. You now have a bunch of smart objects nested into a big smart object. Don’t worry about not being able to edit, though. All you have to do is right click and choose edit contents. This will bring up a .psb file that has all of the layers and adjustments inside your smart object. All you have to do is make any changes in that file, save it, and exit out. The smart object will update itself.
This is where I bring the borders back in with a layer mask. I find it much easier to put in the 5px borders this way rather than trying to do the math and space things out properly. It also guarantees you clean lines.
So I select the smart object that has all of my gifs and coloring in it, then go to layer > layer mask > reveal all to create a layer mask that will go over everything.
Tumblr media
Then I go to the tool bar and select the single row marquee tool. I make sure I can see the grid of small gifs to do this part and I zoom in as far as I can on one of the horizontal intersections. I click on the line where the gifs meet and a row of pixels will be selected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I switch back to the regular arrow which will give me handles to increase the selection to 5px tall. Once I have this 5px selection centered over the intersection, I click on the layer mask, then use the eraser tool over it to remove the selected area. You can click command or control + d to deselect, then repeat this for all of the intersections of the grid, using the single column marquee tool for vertical intersections.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now your grid is separated and your big gif is cut into pieces that line up, all in one step. And for any other gifs like this that you make, you can copy and paste the smart object you made here into the file you're working on and drag the layer mask onto the smart object you’re making, then delete the old smart object from that file once you’ve gotten its layer mask. So although the process of making the layer mask is a bit tedious, if you save your first one as a psd, you can reuse the layer mask anytime you need to.
Obviously you’ll need to export and adjust the delay of your finished product. I recommend a much slower delay than usual, since the gif switches, and the grid will only be about 30-35 frames, I did a 0.08 delay, but you could go even slower if you want. It’s good for it to be slow, because it gives people time to actually see what’s happening and not get a headache.
That’s pretty much the gist! I hope this was helpful, but I am more than happy to clarify anything if you want to send me an ask or dm!

Video
youtube
hello! i was tagged by @hyunjoons to make a video showing my giffing process so ! here she is in all her chaos HNSDJKFJSDHK i sped it up a bit cause the original video was 15 minutes >< also please ignore my throwaway yt acc!! here’s the end result:
Tumblr media
(fun fact this is a bonus clip i meant to gif for the set i made here but never got around to)
i tried to include my whole process so i don’t really do anything that’s not shown here! this is featuring my logo blurring process too so sdnfjskdhf this is really everything i do ^^ i’ll put a summary under the cut of everything that i did in this video so this post doesn’t get too long!!
ok before we start i just want to apologize for the pixel grid that’s in the video ;;; i usually disable it but i was doing pixel art last night and forgot to turn it off when i finished ><’’ also!! i’m not going to go in depth on *HOW* to use everything, this is just a summary of what i did!! alright onto the gif c:
avisynth
so the first thing i do when i make gifs is run my video through avisynth!!
i only really use it for initial sharpening ^^
i don’t resize my gifs there only because i’m used to doing it in ps !! i’ve heard that it lowers the quality of your files so maybe don’t follow my example but sdfjkshdf its just what i’m used to ^^
i do a lot of my trimming in ps too, so essentially i make it my goal to spend as little time using avi as possible
photoshop | start
so after waiting for avi to process my frames, i import them to photoshop!!
the general order of how i start is: trim frames -> crop  -> resize
i also preview my gif a lot of the time which is why i keep running it repeatedly!! im checking to make sure its the part i want ^^
photoshop | sharpening
after i resize and all the next thing i do is sharpen!
i ALWAYS sharpen before i color, mostly because it’s what i’m used to and i find it easier to move my coloring folder between gifs
i sharpen using topaz denoise & clean! i only recently started using them but i prefer them to my old smart sharpening style C:
again, i keep previewing how things look here which is why i keep turning layers on and off and such
please ignore how i accidentally detatched my frame timeline... this is just a byproduct of my chaos
photoshop | coloring
after sharpening i (wait for topaz to run my frames) start my coloring process!!
it’s worth noting that i color in the “frame timeline” because i think you have to when you use topaz and also because i like using the frame timeline
when i color i always mess with the settings so i don’t have any set psds that i use- it’s always from scratch
also it’s why i keep moving the sliders around chaotically ><” i’m just checking how it looks !!
the adjustment layers i usually use for coloring are: levels, brightness / contrast, exposure, hue / saturation & selective color!
also this is a sidenote but while i was messing around with the cyans in hue / saturation i tried to make it pink and decided i didn’t like it but hsjkdfh that’s what i was trying to do
i only use color filter if i’m feeling spicy i don’t have any real reason for using it
you can see tho that i do a lot of my adjustments in selective color!! she’s probably my fav adjustment layer
once again i keep turning the visibility of the layers on and off just to see how it looks!!
after i finish coloring i add my logo!! i usually go 10 pixels from the corner of the gif exactly which is why i zoomed in to move it.. why i do this i’m not sure but it’s how it be
photoshop | logo blur
alright now for this bonus part!! i only blur things if there’s logos / text i don’t want in the gif and here’s how i do that
i go back to the video timeline and apply a gaussian blur to my gif and mess with the layer mask so only the logo gets blurred
after that i convert my timeline back into a frame one simply because i’m used to working in that
then i desaturate it!! i mess with the layer mask again to only select the logo and then color it to look how i want (in this case removing the blue color entirely)
after that i’m finished! i typically check the gif before i export it to see how noisy it is but i didn’t do that here for the sake of time ><
and thats it!! thank you for reading this far if you do ^^ i know my gif style is pretty basic compared to other’s but it gets the job done hnsfsjkdhf i’m still a new (read: a lil over a year) gifmaker so i’m still learning stuff! what i do isn’t the best way to do stuff but it’s just what i prefer C: !!

hi! sorry for bothering you but,, could you please make a tutorial of your icons? i really like your style
Sure! I’ve been meaning to make one for a while actually so this is perfect.
First, load your image into photoshop, make sure the mode is set to RGB color, and unlock the image by making it a layer from background
Tumblr media
Next, take the brush tool and use it to clean up anything you don’t want in the icon (text, backgrounds, other characters, etc). I planned on cropping this one pretty tight so I didn’t worry about too much of the stuff at the bottom, just what might get in the way
Tumblr media
Then I cropped the image into a square. Sometimes I do this later in the process but it doesn’t really matter. Play around with it a bit to make sure it looks good, don’t cut anything off at awkward places. You can also mess with negative space and have it be offset to one side or other fun stuff
Tumblr media
Next use the paint bucket tool to fill in the background and see if there’s anywhere where the lines don’t fully connect or looks weird. This particular sketch was pretty clean, but sometimes I’ll have huge sections get filled in so I have to go and redraw the lines a bit. The blue circles are places I need to either redraw or clean up, and the green circles are places where I need to fill in the color where we should be able to see the background
Tumblr media
As a note, if I’m making an icon set I always set my fill color to these settings because they’re the easiest to get consistent. The color itself will change later but things like how light/dark your original fill color is matter for a consistent look
Tumblr media
When you redraw a line, zoom in super close and use the color picker tool to select the color of the second or third darkest pixel in the line around where you’re redrawing. Then set your brush to a good size (this one was bigger and used 4 px, usually its 2 or 3) and just... fill in the line. I didn’t try very hard with this one so it doesn’t look great, but usually its fine and no one will notice unless you have a larger section you need to fill. To help blend it out a bit more you can also make the brush a little softer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s what it looks like when it’s all clean and filled in
Tumblr media
Next, apply a gradient map layer. I use a random preset I found somewhere as a base, but the important thing is that both ends are light (I usually keep it with the preset’s slightly yellow off-white, but I’m sure pure white would work too) with a color right in the middle at location 50
Tumblr media
Then all you have to do is make the middle color whatever you want it to be, resize it, and you’re done! I usually make mine either 300x300 or 500x500 for simplicity’s sake, but whatever works
Tumblr media
As a final note, I usually like to use sketches for my icons because they’re fun and light. If you’re using a “finished” image with lots of black fill and hard lines in it this will end up looking pretty janky
Tumblr media
To fix it, you just need to make the far left color the same as the far right one to get the darkness back
Tumblr media
You can also use this on the sketches to intensify the darker areas, but its usually not necessary. However, it still doesn’t look the best if you have an image with a lot of screentones or shades of gray in it unfortunately
Sorry it got a little long, but I hope it all makes sense and you find it useful! If you have any questions or need clarification on any steps just ask, I’m always happy to answer ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Best All In One Computer:Expert’s Hand-Picked
Two decades ago, the desktop PCs we were using had pretty large CRT monitors along with a separate CPU tower. Today, all-in-one computers are getting quite popular as they have an integrated CPU and monitor. All you have to do is just plug in your mouse and keyboard to the slots behind the display, and it works same as a normal desktop PC.
They are designed for those looking for a compact PC that looks stylish too.
Why You need an All In Ones Computer?
All in ones PCs have a single unit that integrates every part of a computer except peripheral devices like keyboard and monitor. Usually, these AIO PCs come with a keyboard and mouse of the same brand.
They have an integrated display, CPU, motherboard and other components, and equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI ports, and audio jacks.
Another special thing about all in ones PC is its screen size. Even low-end AIOs come with at least a 20-inch screen. Almost every AIO provides a full HD resolution of 1920*1080. If you are bored of laptops and looking for a better and big screen, all in ones computers are the best
Best All In Ones Computers I Picked in 2019
I have picked best all in ones PCs in every segment right from low-end to high-end.
After deciding to go with all in ones PCs, I just got a bit nervous to see so many options. I narrowed down the list by carefully analyzing my requirements. Part#7 Guide & Tips Times: How to Choose An All In Ones Computers
Choosing a best all in ones PC from a wide variety of option is a cumbersome task. Here I have provided a detailed guide how to choose the right one for you. Before picking the right one, you have to know what is important to look for. Read the following tips carefully to know what you should consider.
Quick Tips
Components: Which Specs Matter?
If you are a regular user, and the primary usage is to work on those spreadsheets, you might need a big display but an FHD display is not really needed. But if you choose the PC for streaming HD videos, you may need an FHD display and well capable hardware to support the load. Let’s see how to choose the right components.
Display: Size and Resolution
You are already heading to choose a good all in ones PC. Almost every all in ones PCs comes with a minimum of 20 inches to a 34-inch display. If you are not too confined to keep your PC under tight space, I would recommend to but at least a PC with 23-inch display. You can always buy a big 32 inches display of you can afford it as they are always on the costly side. Too big screen is not liked by all and the 27 inches is the average size loved by most people.
Display resolution ranges from HD, FHD, QHD, 4K and 5K display. You should seriously consider your purpose before selecting the right display if you have a constrained budget. If you want to stream or play 4K movies or games, you should not settle on those FHD displays and it won’t equal the crispness of 4K displays.
Touch Screen Yes or No?
The Touchscreen on that big display is a new and useful feature, but it’s not a must. Many people simply rely on a mouse rather than having a touch screen that comes at a little extra price tag. However, having a touch screen greatly reduces the effort of using the machine.
For designers looking for a dedicated studio machine, all in ones PCs like Microsoft Surface Studio offers touch screen with a smartpen. The designer can draw anything on the screen with the help of the pen. So, the touchscreen is used for productive purposes apart from regular navigation and selection.
So, always think well if you can effectively utilize the touch screen function or not. If you don’t need it really, it’s better to avoid it to save some money. But I strongly recommend going with a touchscreen display, as it has many features and easy gestures that you won’t regret later.
Design: Form and Function
An all in ones PC is defined by its form factor. Unlike other PCs, an AIO packs everything right from a display to a DVD drive on a single chassis. The advantage of owning an all I ones PC is its mess free single wire power input. Another advantage is the inclusion of wireless keyboard and mouse which makes the whole unit wire-free.
Setting up an all in one PC is the easiest when compared to other PCs. You just have to plug in the power supply to the socket and you are done. No more physical connections are actually needed. Wireless mouse and keyboard and mouse connect themselves as soon as the machine is powered on. Even certain printers and other devices support wireless connectivity, boosting even more convenience.
Now let’s talk about the aesthetics and ergonomics. As far as the aesthetics concerned, all in ones PCs are considered great as it looks cool on your desk. To facilitate ergonomics, most all in ones PCs comes with a stand built-in that can be adjusted to different positions based on your comfort. Some AIOs come with single leg support that looks really cool. But they offer a limited adjustment like fewer angle options. So if you are more concerned about ergonomics, you should look for stands that have more adjustment options.
Operating System: Windows or MacOS?
Choosing an operating system is completely based on the individual’s preference. You should consider the one that is already used by you and feels more comfortable. If you are much comfortable using Windows and have sparingly used a Mac OS, stick to Windows. If you are familiar with Mac platforms like iPhone, iPad, etc., go with Mac.
Apart from personal preference and ease of use, you should consider another important parameter here. I’m talking about the touchscreen compatibility within the OS platforms. The Apple’s Mac OS platforms don’t support the touchscreen functionality. But  windows platform is pretty friendly with this feature. So if you have more affinity towards touchscreen, you should go with Windows as there is no other option.
Ports
Yes, you must well check the ports available in the AIO PC you are looking for. This is a silent price-cutting strategy followed by PC manufacturers. Those advanced ports like USB-C, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, and HDMI ports are the ones usually gets out of the spec sheet. So be careful and check all the required ports you decided to have. If you are the one who frequently transfers big sized files to another hard drive, there’s no use of getting an AIO with just a USB 2.0 port. So be careful about what you wish for.
Another thing to consider here is the placement of ports. To make the PC visually appealing, some manufacturers choose a spot that is difficult to reach or not sufficiently enough room to accommodate connectors with big heads.
Do not compromise on HDMI port. Most all in ones PCs of today is equipped with HDMI ports as default. The use of old-school VGA is disappearing slowly and you should always have an HDMI port for better picture quality and the ability to send sound signals through the same cable.
Memory card slot is another thing to consider. If you are a photographer; often prefer to copy the pictures directly from the memory card, look for the card reader availability and compatibility.
Sound
If you are a music lover or looking for best sounding machine to quench your hardcore movie needs, you should always check the sound system and configuration on the AIO you are shortlisting. Sound options ranges from simple mono system to a Dolby enabled multi-channel output like the ones in latest AIO PCs.
Power output ranges from 2W RMS to 20W RMS. However, you can always enjoy music at more volume and Bass by installing external speaker systems. But for people who prefer to keep just the PC on the desk and still needs a good sound, look for multi-speaker configuration with Dolby enabled speakers.
Price
Price is always a big parameter when buying something. An all in ones PC which have same configuration as a regular PC is always priced at the higher side as the workmanship required to integrate everything under a single unit is a labor extensive job.
If you don’t care about the budget, you can choose an all in ones PC from the top tier PCs. These PC literally packs everything a PC needs. They boast a big 32+inch high-resolution 4K display along with touchscreen, powered by latest i7 or equivalent AMD processors, equipped with 12+ GB of RAM for lag-free multitasking, powerful graphics cards with huge video RAM, high-speed SSD memory, and packs all necessary ports and wireless features. But you should spend an average cost of $2000 to get hands on those machines.
The midsegment all in ones PCs are priced between $1000 to $2000 can be bought with the above-mentioned features but you have to lose certain features to get your desired features, just like choosing FHD display and SSD over a 4K display. These machines seem capable, but remember some of them do not have a dedicated graphic card for heavy gaming. There are plenty of options available in this price range. You can compare them all and decide based on your actual need.
If you are looking for all in ones PC for gaming or heavy software usage, prepare to spend a little extra money. Look for game dedicated AIOs that are specially designed to handle latest games without any glitch. These are usually equipped with high-end graphic cards and high-speed SSD memory to facilitate lag-free gaming at higher FPS. You should consider a minimum of i5 processors and 12 GB of RAM to play the latest demanding games.
Brief Summary
So be cautious about your selection as far as you are confined to a budget. Hope all the above tips will help you choose the right all in ones PC for you. Remember that you should not compromise on certain necessary features like HDMI ports. If you are looking for a fast machine for office use where multitasking and huge storage is needed, go for a machine that has lots of RAM and fast storage rather than picking one with a good graphic card. So be wise, and select the best keeping your preference in your mind.
If I Were You, I will Choose HP Envy 34-b010, here are the 3 Reasons
Reason 1: It has a big curved display
I’m primarily looking for screen immersion. This one has an ultra-wide 34-inch display with Quad HD resolution of 3440*1440 pixels. The curved display will be great to immerse you in the game or your favorite movie. With wider display configuration, I can even manage multiple documents at the same time.
Reason 2: Has everything a gaming PC needs
I love playing games don’t you? This Pc is packed with a powerful 7th gen i7 processor which is more enough to handle the latest games at ease when a good graphic card and RAM is coupled with it. Surprisingly, this Hp’s all in ones PC comes with 16 GB DDR RAM, and a powerful AMD Radeon RX 460 graphics card with dedicated 4GB memory. It also features a 256 GB SSD memory which is more than enough for OS storage, and storing your favorite games and applications opened frequently.
Reason 3: Fantastic Audio
I’m an audiophile! Sound quality from this PC is just amazing and you won’t complain for sure. It has 4 front firing speakers producing excellent Dolby surround effect with a respectable 20W power output. Though Bass is not that strong, you can always add external speakers to crank up the noise. I really enjoyed the sound and I don’t have any idea to add external speakers. Though it is priced on the higher side at $2000, great potential and advanced features justify the price!

Ready for Our All In Ones Computers Recommendations?
Here I am recommending the best PC in all the three segments based on my own preference.
Low-end PC Dell Inspiron 3265 AIO Desktop
If you are looking for a good everyday PC intended for light office usage or normal home usage that is stylish and occupies less space, Dell Inspiron 3265 AIO can be the best choice for just $399. Like most all in ones PCs, Dell 3256 AIO comes with a 21.5 inch full HD display, stuffing a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels. This PC is far enough to handle your daily worksheets, internet browsing, and watching your favorite movies.
Mid-end PC-HP 27-a230
This is a mid-range HP all in One PC with great capability and comfort. I declare this as the best mid-range PC as it is equipped with a large 27-inch FHD display putting out a display resolution of 1920*1080 pixels. I like the processing speed and lag-free switching between applications with a latest i5 processor tied with a 12GB RAM. It also has 1TB storage for storing all your media files and documents. I consider this as a powerful office machine that has the potential for multitasking and big display to view those tight timeline plans and vast spreadsheets.
High-end- Apple MNED2LL
I would blindly choose the Apple MNED2LL if I plan to buy high end all in ones PC. This machine has a first in class 5K display putting out 5210*2880 pixels at 500 nits of brightness! The display is simply awesome as they call it as the iconic Retina display. For gaming, I really don’t have to worry as it comes with a whopping 8GB video memory with a Radeon Pro 580 card. It can handle all latest games and graphic rendering software without a single glitch.
Further Reading Time: Read Ultimate Guide
Feeling motivated from the above recommendations? The above mentioned all in ones PCs are selected after careful evaluation of its performance and equipment levels. Before starting your hunt, always write down everything you need from the PC you are looking for and never urge or compromise on certain important features that might make you feel your PC got outdated in the matter of a year!
Conclusion
There are many factors to consider when you have deiced to buy an all in ones PC. I recommend reading as many reviews you can reviews from different sources before settling on one. Always try to obtain realistic review of the product. It’s always better to research in advance than regretting your wrong decision later.

Hope this is a appropriate question to ask, but I've been trying to make my own rpg sprites and i'm having trouble developing the eyes for my sprite, do you have any tips or tutorial for it?
It is!  It’s part of making a game, so you’re all good (plus I love pixel art!)
Well, I mostly stick to 2003 sizes, so for the most part, using 1-2px dots. Here’s some sprites I’ve made in the past (at 2x [two times bigger than the original version/200%] view because that’s how you’d see them in game).
Tumblr media
You cant really tell their eye color from these sprites, but that doesn’t matter really.  The only one that breaks the 2-3 width is the one in the top left, which was inspired by Mogeko’s style.  For small sprites, it’s less about what their eyes look like than knowing that they have eyes in the first place.
Too complex eyes on these types of sprites doesn’t really work since you won’t get to see the details unless you zoom in all the way, and too much detail can crowd the sprite or make it blurry.  Sticking with 1-3px eyes is best in that case.
Even when I’m doing larger pixel art, I tend to keep it around dot sized (2x view):
Tumblr media
We’ll talk about more below the “keep reading” button!
It’s hard to draw a realistic human eye in pixel art due to the size.  Even more realistic stuff I’m drawing a simplified eye (2x):
Tumblr media
Pixel art is all about symbols below a certain size.  There’s no way around it.  Basically on the sliding scale of realistic vs stick figure you’re gonna go on the stick figure side:
Tumblr media
(If you like comics I recommend checking out Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics and it’s sequels - they’re p interesting!  This article shows more of what I’m talking about as well)
This will apply to you even if you’re already drawing in a more anime/cartoony style.  Check out how Amu from Shugo Chara looks on one of the DS Game’s box covers:
Tumblr media
Now check out how her eyes look in the 3rd DS Game:
Tumblr media
Much simpler, only 1 color for the iris, 1 for the pupil & outline, and 2 for the sclera.  This hardly looks like an eye if you zoom in real close.
Tumblr media
There’s some shading thrown in there as well from the skin tone (the whole bottom line to her eye uses colors from her skin to continue her eye with no one the wiser due to it not being zoomed in 8x).   Basically, what I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t go in thinking you’re gonna make an eye, but a symbol or an abstraction of an eye.  A fake eye in a sense!
You can play around a lot and get something that says “eye” as long as it’s round and placed on the face correctly.  The possibilities are endless!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t be afraid to experiment! (4x & 2x)
Basic tips:
Make sure the eyes look like they fit the head.  Keep it proportionate.
The smaller the eye, the less colors you’ll use.  1 color + black & white is usually enough, but you could just draw a 1 color line if it’s small or you want to keep it simple, or use 2-3 colors + black if you have enough room to put in that much detail.
Pick a light source (usually the top left or right) and stick with it.
If you flip your eye make sure the shine in the eye is facing the right direction (unless it’s a style thing that looks better).
Don’t be afraid to use other colors on the sprite to shade it
Shading around the eye can make a great difference, as you saw in the Shugo Chara example.
It’s ok to look at other people’s sprites to see how they did their eyes.  You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.  Just don’t Copy/paste the sprite wholesale!
Eye placement is something to look out for.  General rule of thumb is that human eyes are about 1 eye length apart, so I’d say the same or near the same would apply to most pixel art styles:
Tumblr media
Too far or too close makes the character look off.  I’d also say not to keep your eyes too close to the edge just so they don’t come into contact with the outline too much.
How high or low you place your sprite’s eyes will have an effect on perspective as well (in combo with how you draw the hair & rest of the body of course).  I moved the pixels by 1 inch and it looks like they’re in different perspectives:
Tumblr media
The left looks like it’s in 3/4th’s view (RPG Maker’s default perspective) while the right looks like it’s straight on, or like a side scroller (where you can’t see the top of the head).  Keep that in mind as well.
Be careful on blending.  Say if you have a character who’s skin color is super light, the whites of their eyes might be lost on the sprite.  You can either deal with it or use a similar but darker skin tone for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For characters with dark skin (and dark eyes) you’re gonna have to find a way to make sure their irises don’t blend in too much with their skin tone (usually you just lighten up the iris, but sometimes you might have to adjust the skin color as well - as long as their character portraits/other art keeps their regular skin tone, it’s ok to mess with it it like above). You’re also going to have to make sure the whites of their eyes don’t stand out too much against their skintone, which can be done via proper shading and eye shape:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For characters who have the same eye and skin color, just make it so their eyes are darker than their skin or vice versa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Easy peasy.
And that’s all I have to say on eyes.  You can always look up some tutorials on DA, but I suggest just looking at other people’s pixel art themselves and see how they made an eye.  I hope this helps! C:

I Am A Bad Person
My panic was really setting in as I hopped northbound on I-75 for the 3rd time that month. How could I have done something like this. I have created a monster... Especially when it was your own mother. I stepped on the gas a little harder. The cars were zooming by as the sun beat down on the scorching hot pavement. The AC was cranked all the way to that ‘extra cold’ setting. It still wasn’t enough, the sweat was working its way across my forehead with a vengeance. My nerves were firing off every millisecond with fear and panic. The rush down the interstate was interrupted by the usual traffic and construction. My already panic filled mind injected with anger and complete confusion. The cars were seemingly at a stand still, but yet, not a single construction worker in sight. Come to think of it, after making this drive once a week for the last six months. I have YET to see a single construction worker doing fuck all. But, it is of little concern today. I had to get to my mother, to explain that I was sorry. I would solve the worlds interstate construction discrepancies at a later date. There were things closer to my heart that needed fixing.
While sitting in the scorching pavement desert, surrounded by cars. My mind began to ponder my lifes terrible choices. I Am a Bad Person. I gave my mother something she just simply couldn’t handle. The substance was more addictive than cocaine. More addictive than heroin. Yet, I had purchased it with my own money and handed it over to her without a second thought. I even SMILED when I watched her eyes glaze over after she took that first sweet hit of its overpowering manufactured joy. The traffics clearing! Wait, no. FUCK! I cranked the music up louder to clear my mind. The sweet singing pipes of Anthony Kiedis and the instruments of the Red Hot Chili Peppers filled the small car. It managed to blank my mind long enough to finally clear through the ever pointless construction signs. Which ironically, the last of which said ‘END OF CONSTRUCTION’. Yet, living here almost my whole life, the End of Construction seemed to be far from sight indeed.
The road curved by me as I sped down the exit ramp and careened down the side roads approaching my childhood home. Mind began racing with words I prepared. Things I would have to say.
I love you. I am worried about you. I will be here for you. Addiction treatment works! I will pay for it! I am so sorry I did this to you. We NEED to get help.
I stepped out of my car already at a sprint as I ran into the house. To no surprise, there she was. Still deep in its evil embrace. She smiled as she looked up at me. Always happy to see her son, regardless of how I have poisoned her mind. Even now, after forcing an addiction like no other on her. She still could smile at me. It broke my heart.
“Hey! Come look! I have pigs!” She exclaimed and gestured toward her laptop screen.
“Look mom, we need to talk..” I started as I walked over, standing by her side and looking directly into the evil abyss. The thing that had consumed so much of my time until I had properly kicked the stuff. The laptop screen was pixelated. Covered in bright colors of beautifully organized digital art. It was a consumer of time, and a destroyer of free will. One moment your happy and free, the next you are picking it up again, not able to resist its powerful hold over your very soul. It was the kind of drug that seemed so innocent at first, but stabbed you with its infested needle when you least expected it. All of this... with only a $15 price tag. Stardew Valley... I fought back the urge to cry as she continued on. Gleeful and full of joy as she continued through her farm, showing me everything she had accomplished in the last week. It was devastating. She had slipped into the void of buying crops, planting seeds and taken its evil mine tracks deeper then I ever had. Her gold was in the millions. Making my mere 10,000 utterly meaningless. I watched in complete dismay at her accomplishments. She was lost to it. The time for an intervention had passed. It was too late. I am a Bad Person.

This might be too much to ask but I broke my laptop and only have access to mobile and I'm dying to know what I'm actually missing but I can't check would you be able to describe it? Sorry I know this is annoying ignore it if it's too much trouble
It’s not annoying so don’t worry about it, but my posts should all be visible, now? At least my app doesn’t give me the option to request a review anymore… if you can’t see them still they’re all (aside from the one I posted earlier) backed up on my wordpress blog! You can see them from there without me needing to describe them~
Anon said:Franeri-san what dimensions do you usually use for your canvas? When I draw I end up making the canvas too small, so when i zoom in to make details it becomes pixelated. But I also don’t need my canvas too big because I won’t be able to proportion it;; it’s a visual thing… Ah I’m rambling sorry
I use a 6000pxx5000px with a 4px brush, usually, but I really rarely use it all, mostly it’s just like, corners of the whole thing. I tend to draw a lot of things on the same canvas before switching to a new one - that said, personally I can’t draw properly if I don’t zoom in above 100% (usually I work at 150% or 200%, more for details) so I’m really not the right person to ask this haha
Anon said:I saw that profanity is now being blocked more heavily by safe search so our good, good but foul mouthed Baku may be the reason your stuff is hidden. You’ve probably already heard this but I thought I’d let you know~
Rip so I heard orz though let’s not give our Baku all the fault here, I swear a lot by myself too haha I’m my own ruin, seems like - thank you for taking your time to share the info, anyway!!
Anon said:I’m really happy about your blog not being censored seriously. CAUSE YOU MAKE WONDERFUL DRAWINGS THAT FILL MY HEART AND I WAS STARTING TO PANICK. Keep up the good work~. 🖤
And I’m really happy you can properly see my blog, you sweet sweet cute and adorable anon!!!!!!!!!! *O*
Anon said:Hello! First, I love your art and your headcanons and stories! I am in love with bakushima half because of you, you beautiful tart. Second, about Bakugo’s laugh, holy crikey, of course he’s loud and explosive. The boy is a ball of stress and anger and when he laughs for real, it’s rare and takes effort. But like, can you just imagine when his explodo-kill mask cracks his face turns red because he doesn’t want to laugh. But THEN he barks out a laugh and everybody’s stunned and then he just SNORTS
YES!!!!!!! Oh my god yes that’s an hc I have he definitely, definitely snorts when he tries to hold back his laughter it’s so effin adorable I die every day a lot bless that kid
Anon said:Who tops of in your opinion in Bakushima?👀
Maybe either, maybe neither, depends on many things but mostly on how I don’t ever ask myself this question for any of my ships so I got no answer for it at all ever - instead we should ask ourselves the important questions, like who opens the water bottles between them (Kirishima when Bakugou’s palms get too sweaty and Bakugou’s forever resentful about it), who kicks when they sleep and who always ends up sleeping on the floor because of it (Bakugou’s the restless sleeper, poor Kirishima), who takes way too damn long in the bathroom goddamnit Kirishima get out of there already I swear to go——-
Anon said:your blog makes me really happy just keep doing you you’re like the best thing
Thank you so much holy smokes!!!!!!!!!! *O*
Anon said:wait wait wait wait! is Bakugou the one teaching Shark Kirishima sign language?? then does that mean Kirishima learned to sign ‘I love you’ from Bakugou!? (Q/)////(\Q)
They’re learning together!! They have an online dictionary and follow online courses, so Kirishima kind of looked it up for himself at first - he was signing it as love instead of really like thoug, which made Bakugou indecently flustered so in the end, yes, he was the one to teach him how to properly sign it :D
Anon said:Will you still be updating this blog?
Sure will! The wordpress one is just a backup thing!
Anon said:wait so question: in the mer au, does kiri know jsl from before? because the way he reacted to bakugou first attempting to sign at him looked like he recognized it but you said they both had to learn? does he react like that because he recognizes it as bakugou actively trying to communicate? (btw this au is So Good i love how kaminari is just “why are you like this” at kiri but his Gay Ass cant be swayed)
I’m glad you like it!!!!! And nope Kiri didn’t know jsl from before, but mers do have something similar to a sign language (there’s deaf and mute merpeople too, after all) so he recognized it as Bakugou going “I want to talk to you and this is the best way to” - also, he’d never seen a tablet before and Bakugou was showing him an explosion on it to make him understand and instead he went “what is this SORCERY” and got excited about a gif. Good, pure kid. I had no clue how to add that in the comic in a fast way tho so let’s leave it at him being happy they found a possible way to communicate haha
Anon said:Hi Fran!!! Hace you reas the theoriws aboyo kiri o kaminari Boeing traitors? Si you know where they came up? I’m lil bit lost even tho I’m up with the man lmao ALSO pls more maki-chan
So pretty much at some point in the middle of a meeting Present Mic mentioned how there probably was a traitor between them that kept on feeding the villains infos about UA, and the fandom of course got interested in that!! Who could it be? They started thinking it through and for some reason the theories that ended up being more popular are about it being either Kaminari, Kirishima or Hagakure - I don’t think any of these are true, but if you google search “kaminari traitor theory” or the same with the other two names you should easily find the posts explaining the theories and where they come from, if you’re interested!
Anon said:omg fran i haven’t watched/read bnha but still solely bc of your art i am IN LOVE with kirishima. he’s such a pure being I feel like crying every time i see him??? like i just watched the first opening of the anime and you bet i watched the 5 seconds kirishima gets over and over. like all the bnha kids seem great. i am somehow extremely motivated to read bnha now thanks to your art. BUT OH MY GOD KIRISHIMA I LOVE HIM SO MUCH WHAT EVEN
You picked the best fave you could ever pick, anon!!! Kirishima is the BESTEST boy, purest and brightest and energetic and actual sunshine and also super strong and resilient and kind of an ass now and again but in a good way he’s GREAT I’m IN LOVE with him good job your intuition is perfect
Anon said:THE MER AU WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER I LOVE SHARK KIRISHIMA AND THE TAGS ALL GAVE ME LIFE
GLAD YOU LIKED IT OMG!!!!!!!
Anon said:I love all your art, but especially all your self indulgent stuff bc first off HELLS YEAH DO THE STUFF THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY and another is it feels like self indulgent stuff for me but I’m not the one making the thing… So like… It’s Good™ BUT YEAH ANYWAYS I LOVE YOUR ART AND YOU AND YOUR ART MAKES ME HAPPY TBH I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING A LOVELY DAY
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH also this is super nice to know because sometimes being self-indulgent is all I can manage to do haha r i p but at least now I’ll know you, for one, will like it!!! That’s nice!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I really, really think I will!!!!!!!! :D
Anon said:I bet if denki tried to do the “if i jump at ______ they will most certainly catch me” with bakugou, bakugou would just let him fall
Oh my god no Bakugou’s reflexes and instincts are too fast and automatic the actual reaction at seeing someone run and jump at him would be without thinking trying to explodo-kill them don’t jump at him Kaminariiiii
Anon said: What to you think of a school dance bnha concept thing???
I read a bakushima about it once and I DIED so actually A++++ great perfect amazing concept I love it
Anon said:I gotta know, what do you think of the “Dabi is Todoroki Shouto’s brother” theory? i personally feel like that 1’s the most likely theory to become a legit thing but im curious
I talked about this on my main just the other day!! And added something about it earlier through another ask! But generally I think it’s believable, and I wouldn’t mind it being true :D
Anon said:But, what are your feelings about this chapters? And Kirishima? God, I love him even more and want him to be happy, but Im also dying to know what happened to him in his past!!
I CRIED I love that boy so much I swear it’s getting ridiculous I’m so so proud of him and how far he’s come and I just want him to be happy??? I do want to know his past tho!!! I’ve just been asking for this for, like, eight months!! I hope next one will be the one I’ll finally learn about my child tbh ;–;
Anon said:Fran you should totally do bnha and haikyuu calendars
………………..boi that sounds like a lot of work, anon. Like, it’s an interesting idea, but also my lazy ass is telling me no way no what the heck go to sleep instead r i p
Anon said:Have you ever thought of an eraser mic fusion?
I’ve drawn it already!!
Anon said:fran i?? i love the way you draw smiles?? idk i was just going through your art and i realized that holy SHIT i really love the way you draw smiles. like each smile is different and has its own specialty. esp bakugo’s smile I LOVE HOW YOU DRAW HIS SMILE!! like usually it’s not really noticeable but then there’s that slight quirk of his mouth (see what i did there?) and it’s so perfect. idk dude i just REALLY LOVE THE WAY YOU DRAW SMILES
THIS IS SUCH A CUTE ASK I DON’T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you????? so much??????? I’m glad you like them cause honestly I love drawing people smiling and laughing, it makes my heart smile too~
Anon said:Theres a bnhaStuck blog in the works ;)
That’s? Nice! I guess!! I hope whoever’s working on it will have fun with it!!
Anon said:Fran this last BNHA chapter hurt so bad. And then I saw your mer-Kiri and it cheered me up!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad I could cheer you up cause honestly I felt that pain a whole damn lot too ;A; let’s hope Kiri won’t have to suffer much more in this arc #sob
Anon said:im crying fran, my hard bby kiri in the latest chap,,, my baby boi, i know that i wanted to know more abt him but,, keep my baby safe pls oh goodness gracious… (and as usual ur bootiful art keeps me alive)
I mean nearly all the character arcs we got are damn sad so it was obvious Kiri’s was going to be too, but still ;A; don’t make him suffer too bad Hori I beg u ;A;

Anon said:!!!!!!FRAN!!!!!! YOUR MER!KIRI AU!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I’m glad you enjoy it!!!!!!
Anon said:I love your work 😍. You are the only one who makes comics About my favourite ships. I check your web everyday If you post something new. My fav ships are I.waoi, bok.uroo and bak.ushima. Love your work 🙂
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh thank you!!!! holy smokes!!!!!
Anon said:Do you have an OC for Boku no Hero Academy?
The closest things to bnha ocs I have are the fusions, right now, but there’s a couple of asks in my inbox about a bkkr kid… soon……..
Anon said:Quick question, I want to read haikyuu, I’ve watched the anime already and I was wondering how close the anime follows the manga, like how bnha is basically identical, is it the same? Or is there a bit of difference *^*
I’m SO SORRY THIS TOOK ME FOREVER TO ANSWER - I bet you already found your answer elsewhere, but anyway the anime is pretty much exactly the same as the manga!!
Anon said:Back on the topic of hq!!! I find it funny how people ask about bok.uroo so much as if you dont like them anymore when they’re literally still your header, like if you didn’t care for them they’d think you’d change it to bakushima or something
I’ve literally thought about changing my header so often but then I look at it and I’m like….. my kids………… I can’t do this………………. not yet…………………. same for my icon tbh haha I love them too much rip
Anon said:Okay but what if Kirishima makes a really stupid pun and Bakugou just turns away with a curse and he’s just covering his mouth and quietly giggling into his hand because even he can’t believe he found that funny, and that is SHAMEFUL. And Sero in the distance is just looking at him, all disappointed. Quietly judging the fact that Kirishima and Bakugou are practically meant for one another.
You wanna know the best thing the absolute best thing? My very first bnha comic was something eerily similar to the first part of this ask! Only Bakugou was the one to accidentally make a pun - I’d link it but honestly my style was ridiculous back then so not happening, just know that I’m 100% sure that post is the reason why I keep on drawing bnha comics about puns, my very first post set the path for all the others to come hah a curse I don’t actually mind
Anon said:are you planning on starting another series? like the bokuroteru tattoo shop au you did (it was real dandy and rad) it was what made me find your blog, so i was wondering if you have any future plans for anything similar. i really like your blog lots, i hope you have a nice day!
Right now I don’t actually have any idea orderly enought to make a proper series out of it, rip - maybe in the future, tho! That one comic was fun to make, after all!! And thank you!!!!!!!!
Anon said:IM HARDCORE IN LOVE WITH TODOSHIMA THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR RUINING MY LIFE❤️❤️
I’M GLAD YOU LIKED HIM OH M Y GODS!!!!

so, when can I move in?
Where will you sleep? Between Jayce and Fern? With the kids? Or!!! I could build you a little house at the back!!! OMG! Let’s do this!! You’re gonna be some sort of a house-elf, but a free one ♥ ♥ ♥
@eslanes replied to your photoset:
I just keep looking at this and dyinggg
Me too, dude. Didn’t even expect me to feel like this. I queued some posts with Jayce’s mom’s house yesterday, and there’s such a huge contrast between these two lives, you know. I mean these clean sheets and cozy breakfast, abandoned 'cause love was way more important than food at the moment make me cry ‘cause I know how freaking far Jayce is from it now T_T
eslanes replied to your photoset:
Dear god! Way to give me a heart attack!
I’m starting to dread the moment you see them actually doing it, considering the fact that I plan to write it... xD
@simmingbee replied to your photoset:
The pictures of Luke and ocean!!
Thank you so much for noticing, honey!!! ♥ These are the old ones, but I’m gonna make something more relevant when Fern actually resides the house!
@neopixiesims replied to your photoset:
Why are they ignoring the food? :p
‘Cause Jayce just ate, and Fern’s more interested in getting her proteins :D
@simsomedia replied to your photoset:
Wow that jam looks delicious
Right? The most delicious jam in the world? Yum!
simsomedia replied to your photoset:
Daria, what am I going to do with you and your decorating skills?
I’m gonna answer you with the song, ‘Love me, love me, Say that you love me’ ♥
@simsomedia replied to your photoset:
I love her more with each passing day
I’m happy to hear that ‘cause she’ll have her own story!.. Assuming we’re talking about Chris, right? LOL
@quiddity-jones replied to your photoset:
Do you really want me to do this? Because I'd have to go with whomever Poppy is most likely to be dating *right now*
Yes, I really want you to do this otherwise I wouldn't tag you, you know? Just don’t overdo it with proteins!
@shaysugar replied to your photoset:
So gentle, just like Fee ❤
I think it’s the first house I’ve ever built that is special enough to have a character of its own, you know. I usually just build, I never think of a character I build for. But this time is different, same goes for Jayce’s apartment. Those are things created with characters in mind. And that feels really good. It’s funny and marvelous, the way I’m connected to Fayce. I love Luke and Ocean but their story never had depth, they always were more of comic characters than the real ones. Now it’s different. I treat the story different. There’s so much more to Fayce story than just a scheme for me.
@shaysugar replied to your photoset:
Such drug and alcohol abuse D: lol And yet, it's attractive (bad boys..)
He will have a very stressful job!
@shaysugar replied to your post:
How do you people do this kind of wcifs, where do you muster all that energy and concentration XD this kind of list must take hours! Appreciated tho♡
Well, I go in game, take screenshots of requested items descriptions, and then I google each item, and link it to the creator’s page. Yeah, usually it takes me about an hour :D But I don’t build that much for it to bother me, and when I feel I have enough of wcifs I’ll stop taking them I guess!
@simsphony-of-plumbobs replied to your photoset:
Who am I supposed to sell my soul to to get half of your decorating talent?
Oh! Ohh! But you shouldn’t sell your soul!!! They will tell you it’s a good deal but it’s not, it’s really not, it’s like a casino, and the house always wins!! xD Thank you so much for your compliment, sweetie ♥ But it’s really nothing, I think it looks good just because this time I was really invested in building, you know.
@snowflakerain replied to your photoset:
Oh myyyyyy, how do you make those pretty family portraits? When I try to make it, it always looks to small and I lost all the datails. You know what I mean? Idk if I'm not making it into a good size while retexturing the cc... :'( The portraits look pixelated in the end.
These look pixelated too! If I zoom in, the pics look all pixelated and blurry! I’ve never been able to make them as clean and smooth as my screenshots :( I usually follow tutorials from S4S, and I slap my in-game photo on the .dds frame without changing the original size. But when I resize the in-game photo to fit the frame, it always gets pixeleted.
@simpyre replied to your photoset:
I feel like most of the stuff we got to vote on in the eco pack would work well in her house <3
That was my first thought when I saw the pack!!! I wanted her house to look like something between Country and Provence, but damn, I love colors too much to actually achieve this xD
