I'm still grieving the dreams I lost due to my disability and I just added another one

#ones id already lost: wanting to hold any job at all. wanting to be a doctor. wanting to be a gymnast. wanting to play bass #wanting to be a therapist (maybe still possible? this is due to my inability to hold any job but im still hopeful i may be able to do this) #i wanted to go to school... i can still learn things of course but its harder and there's no community #i wanted to learn everything. everything about plants and animals and quantum mechanics and languages #everything about history and culture and sciences. but i can't. i mean that was never a realistic goal of course #but I cant get as close to it now as i wouldve if i was healthy #the one i recently added is discovering my fingers have deteriorated so much that playing keyboard is nearly impossible #thats been a lifelong dream of mine... even drawing hurts unless i draw with my finger. i cant hold a pencil without pain #like im figuring things out. working through accommodations and making new goals #but that grief is still there and the wound is still fresh and sometimes it just feels like its growing and it will never stop #i need too much that i cant have. I have so few options #i really dont know what kind of future there is for me if my pain and disability is already this bad in my 20s

Spent this last week tired and in pain and I want to draw about it, but unfortunately aforementioned condition of being tired and in pain makes drawing impossible, so I guess I just have to suffer instead. Why this.

#i mean i know why this it's the hypermobility #but this is a new record for number of joints that hurt at once #hands and in particular thumbs; elbows; shoulders; and feet if i spend too long standing up #i can't currently use my thumbs because the thumb braces are the only thing stopping the pain getting worse #and that means no drawing because i can't hold a pencil #no piano or video games either which are other go-to distractions #i can't hold my phone properly #and i can only type in short bursts with fingers and no thumbs #i hate not being able to use my hands properly #the whole hypermobility thing has been causing me more and more problems lately and it sucks #i really need to get back to the doctor about it #but i'm so damn busy with work this month that i haven't had the time #and being so busy is just making things worse #driving is getting harder and i'm really worried that's going to become a problem #at least the thumb braces help with the pain #and physically prevent me from doing the things that'll make it worse #even if those things include. basically all of my hobbies #fuck this honestly #starting to come to terms with the fact that i am. a bit more physically disabled that previously assumed #happy disability pride month to me i guess :/ #personal stuff

I have always been a "leave me alone about painting" guy

It takes a lot of prep! And a steady hand! And it doesn't let me rest my hand on the paper to make my very-not-steady hand a bit more steady! And you can't erase your mistakes!

So imagine my horror upon realising that the medium that might be the best suited for my chronic pain might actually be a form of painting, bc using a brush doesn't take nearly as much out of me as pressing a pencil to a paper does

Now also imagine my shock upon also realising that i actually enjoy it

#this is about ink pencils #a medium i had Never worked with before today #but it was fun and surprisingly controllable #and while it is v serious about not being able to fix stuff after the fact #that also means i work in small areas at a time. meaning not the whole damn page is wet #meaning i can rest my hand #and it looks So Good it gets the same vibrancy as colour pencils. lovely texture too #downside is needing specific paper for it #anyway. new drawing. painting?? thingy going up later today #i am v excited about all of this #kata's chatter
