Toontown: Corporate Clash Recap: Barnacle Boatyard Sidetasks (Part 1)

First and foremost, a correction: Winn Dos is a mouse, not a koala. She’s only ever appeared in supplementary materials as a 2D drawing, and as such is fluffy enough to look like the in-game koala model. She has never physically appeared in-game, only communicating with the players through blog posts and in-game alerts.

Also, I forgot to mention that Penny Pinchers have a signature attack now:

Penny Pinch: The Penny Pincher yoinks a penny from the pocket of a single Toon, dealing some damage.

Okay, now for the sidetasks!

Pilfering Propellers

To start this task, you have to speak with N.D. Skye in Island, You Land! Airplanes on Anchor Avenue.

N.D. Skye does not have an article on the Corporate Clash wiki, and it’s impossible to review task dialogue for Tasks you’ve already turned in in-game, so this is mostly going off of what I can remember.

First, N.D. Skye asks you to get 3 Propellers from Glad Handers in Barnacle Boatyard. I can’t remember if the Gland Handers stole them or if you’re taking the Propellers they use to fly away, but that’s still the first step.

After returning the propellers to N.D. Skye, you are then tasked with defeating 7 Level 4+ Cogs. You can do this anywhere.

Now, all airplanes still need windows, so after taking care of those Cogs, you are sent to take “Some Window Panes” from a Cog Building right here in Barnacle Boatyard.

Upon completing this, N.D. Skye has plenty of airplanes for the shop and gives you 2388 experience, teleport access to Barnacle Boatyard (allowing you to teleport to it form almost anywhere in Toontown), and 200 Jellybeans.

The Salty Spit-Toon

To start this task, you need to talk to Reg at The Salty Spit-Toon on Anchor Avenue.

“Welcome to the Salty Spit-Toon, how tough are ya?”

Yep, this is a reference to that Spongebob episode, but Reg, unlike the bouncer in that episode, wants to make you tough.

To start, you have to defeat 12 level 3+ Cogs anywhere.

After that, report back to Reg, you tasks you with taking down 2 Cog Buildings.

Once you’ve liberated 2 shops (or the same shop twice), Reg wants you to defeat 3 Yesmen anywhere.

Once those Cogs have been defeated, Reg has one final task for you.

In order to prove how tough you are, you need to give him 5 level 3 Gags.

Once you’ve done that, your training is complete, although you might’ve gone a bit overboard with your leg muscles.

This unlocks the Nautical Nametag, the Big Legs cheesy effect, and rewards 3580 experience and 200 Jellybeans.

Swimming Kiwi

Hey look who it is, it’s Tumbles! In order for Tumbles to even be here, you need to complete New Toony Tourist back in Toontown Central. Anyway, he’s hanging out on the island in the middle of the body of water the S.S. Day-Sea is sailing on.

“Yeah maaaaaaan, how’s it going? Exploring the docks as well I assune?”

“I just love the water, something about it is so calming.”

“I’d love to go for a swim myself, but I forogt to pack a pair of my trusty swimming goggles.”

“I’ve seen some Cogs around town that have those neat looking goggles…”

“I think I’ve heard some Toons call them Conveyancers?”

“If you find one of these Cogs could you try and get a pair of their goggles for me? I really want to take a swim!”

Oh Tumbles, never change. (Note: I don’t know if those typos are also present in game, or just the result of wiki editors not paying attention.)

Regardless, you now need to go and defeat Conveyencers until one drops his goggles.

Once you’ve done that, return to Tumbles.

“These are a bit of a bland grey color, the pair I had at home were blue, but these should work quite swimmingly!”

“Alright [Toon Name], let’s dive in!”

“Wait a second…”

“I’d hate to trouble you again.”

“But it seems that I have forgotten my sunscreen as well!”

“If I don’t wear it, I’ll be as red as a fire hydrant!”

“I overheard some ducks earlier saying that they were able to get some from this shop called The Reel Deal here in Barnacle Boatyard.”

“Could you possibly find that shop and see if they have any sunscreen, make sure to tell them I need something around 95SPF…”

“I’m kinda sensitive to the sun. It’s embarassing to say the least.”

To get Tumbles the sunscreen he needs, you need to speak with Blisters McKee, the teal bat who runs The Reel Deal on Seaweed Street.

“Sunscreen? Sure, I have some.”

“You want 95SPF?!? Hmm… I might have some…”

“If I ‘could’ find some, I’ll need something in return.”

“Why don’t you defeat one of those Cog Buildings nearby and then we can talk.”

After reclaiming some territory from the Cogs, you can now report back to Blisters McKee.

“You should consider yourself lucky, I found a tube in the back.”

“Is that building gone? Good, it’s as good as yours.”

“Thanks for the business.”

With the sunscreen in hand, you must now deliver it to Tumbles!

“Totally nautical, dude!”

“Alright, I’m all ready! Surf’s up!”

Now, all you have to do is go swimming anywhere, and you can speak with Tumbles to complete the task!

“That was awesome, I was able to find a few seashells too! These will be perfect for my collection!”

“As you were diving into the water, I was able to get a picture of you! I’m sure you can add it as your Profile in your Shtickerbook!”

“See ya around, [Toon Name]!”

Tumbles gives you the Diving Profile Pose, 2608 experience, and 200 Jellybeans.

Also, if you leave the Playground and come back, you’ll find that Tumbles has moved on to the next Neighborhood.

As for you, however, there are still three tasks left.

conversely, what are your fave things to draw for the comic? :D

Backgrounds which I have drawn before are the worst.

You know, when you've spent a long time drawing forest scenery mostly on autopilot, just the meditative process of scribbling trees and bushes and other natural shapes, and you try to make it look natural and it's honestly pretty satisfying...

And then you draw another panel and you realize it has the same view of that forest from the same or close to same angle, and you got to draw the same forest again, but this time not as a stream of thought scribbling but referencing all the trees and bushes and other natural shapes and try to make it look like it's the same background forest. How many branches did that random tree in the back have? How many and where did you draw the spots on that birch over there? You really wanted to draw those mushrooms there, but now there's a character in an awkward place kinda in front of them, so how you gonna do them now? Good luck.

Like man, I wish I had copy+paste.

Also shading the darker characters. I love you, Surama and Morri, but maaaaaaan, they eat their way through so many pencil tips. (I am planning on changing the way I shade the comic to include Copic markers, but I'm waiting for the next book/chapter break so it won't be too visually jarring in case the effect ends up being too visible. Unfortunately I'm, like, in the middle of vook 5, so it's gonna take so dang many pages to get there. Bawww.) Shading in general takes forever and is kinda mind numbingly boring.

For fun things... Well, the characters are fun. Specially when they emote or interact, and make funny faces, those are fun. Specially specially Niavel, she got the chance to enter the comic late enough that I knew what kinds of character designs were the most fun, so I had the chance to specifically engineer her to be as fun to draw as I was capable of making (round, fluffy and requiring minimal amount of shading.)

I hope Marcy's journal shines some light on it, but I'm guessing by the time it comes out people will have moved on from caring about Amphibia at all. At least you, Sourbeefio, and a couple of others fed the marcannes while there was plenty of ship fuel.

So I have now defeated Mohg and Rhykard.

Mohg’s fight was hard, yes, but MAAAAAAAN that wingspan. And all those blood attacks were so fucking cool, I loved that fight. But I mean when those WINGS came out - the ones I’d forgot even existed, tbh - I got sent into orbit, like the dam in my pants crumbled and spilled forth. “Damn baby, you just got ten times more attractive.” this was my exact words.

Rhykard’s fight took more attempts than Mohg’s did, regrettably saying that when I had help every time and we both had that bloody serpent slaying spear thing. But like I stepped into that boss arena, took one look around, and y’know that feeling you get when the atmosphere around you is just so aesthetically sexy? Yeah, you get it - anyways, I could’ve dropped trow right there - the whole of Volcano Manor screams at me “YOU WANT TO BE RAILED IN HERE! YOU WANT TO BE AS HOT AS THE LAVA BELOW IN HERE! HAAAAAAAAAA~” Y’know? And it’s all just topped off with that over-indulgent boss fight. I’d love to ask ole Rykky’s VA what they told him to draw inspo from when he was saying his lines for the fight, because idk if they told him to try and speak as though he had no tongue (face on the neck and all that) or what, but I’ve never heard voice acting like it before - fucking fantastic, dude. Enjoy your wife now giving you head in a whole new way. 🤣

ESC2019: Preshow: #35

35. ESTONIA Victor Crone - “Storm” SemiFinal 1, #14

Last Summer Estonia announced that they would, very sadly, reliquish Eesti Laul’s indie vibe by allowing foreign artists to enter.

 “Ah!🤔” Stig Rästa must’ve thought “I can now try to fulfill my biggest dream: create the Estonian Aviicii”😁".

For this he needed a few ingredients: A cheesy song with a catchy but basic track sheeple can dance on and a mouthpiece to perform the song. Said performer would of course have to be Swedish, preferably with no real discernible personality or career and just about desperate enough to enter Eesti Laul over Melfest. Singing Talent if any, was not a requirement, conveniently attractive looks a plus. 

Enter Victor Crone.

Entry Analysis

Every ESC hits us with grower songs, songs which you don’t care about at first, but which get better with every listen. “Storm” is... not one of those lol. At this point I doubt whether I even have any remaining *energy* to point out all of the cliché’s, which is basically... all of “Storm”: it has your run-the-mill pseudo-inspirational but inherently meaningless lyrics on a dope beat that sounds like every dance track ever made. It really does not get any more basic than this (sorry; than thiiiIIIIiiiiis)

I mean obviously, it’s Estonia so I had *some* inherent goodwill at the start, but now that every song has been selected, I am now VEHEMENTLY AGAINST Estonia qualifying for the final. Every time I listen to “Storm” I dislike it more and more, as I’m reminded what a cliché clunker it really is. It’s the opposite of a hit, it’s just... shit. 

Victor himself irks me too though, don’t worry, the personal attack you’re anxiously awaiting is about to start: Put a limp noodle with zero personality in a leather jacket and give them a guitar and you still have a limp noodle with zero personality, only in a leather jacket and with a guitar. Even Victor’s Lisa Rinna hair (seriously what an awful haircut for a maaAAAaan liiIIIiike thiiiIIIiis) has more personality than Victor himself. Also, lmao @ his “vocals”. I wasn’t aware a song liiIIIIiike thiIIIIiis could crack a voiiiIIIIiice liiIIIike thiIIIIiis.

NF Corner

Did Estonia have options other than “Storm”? Well, yeah, they did, but none I particularly cared about actually.😬 I went down my usual trajectory of pulling for lovable randoms because I did NOT love any of the realistic options. Inger was not my cup of tea and Stefan was probably the only one I liked less than Victor 😷 Having said that, I did have a strong preference for ONE of the contenders:

Even with Kirkorkov’s Dark Mark clining to it, “Pretty little liar” would’ve easily been the best option for Estonia, both at ESC and at this ranking (I enjoy how lowkey trash PLL’s melodrama is. “YOU PRETTY LITTLE LIAR *YOU*” <3). If Estonia wanted a conventionally handsome robot in a leather jacket, just go for Uku Ceviche, wtf???

But there are other fun songs I wouldn’t want to deny you. There is of course, the EPIC collab between Tanja & Birgit Õigemeel: 

Embarrassing ElectroSwing sensationalism, YES <3 It wouldn’t have stood a chance in ESC, but I’m happy it graced my internet tee-vee screen with its presence.. 

There’s also THIS hilarious s*cat* anthem which cured my just about my loneliness, anxiety, depression  😻😻😻😻😻

Fulfilling its destiny of finishing last with exactly 1 point. 😻 (not last overall though, because there were *two* songs in the other semi which managed to get 0 points somehow lmfao 😻<3) 

My personal fave however was something different: meet MEME QUEEN INGA

Good Estonian indiepop isnt dead, it was just burried underneath of layers and layers and fucking LAYERS of garden-variety radio pop. "Miline päev” did have a certain ~Je Ne Sais Quoi~ about it (You know it has that special something!) that I enjoyed. Maybe it were the iconic trousers or the iconic dancing or perhaps both? Bask in the radiant warm glow of QUEENGA’s surpreme dance mewvs:

Qualification Odds: Borderline (Disadvantaged)

Same issue as with Denmark: The bookmakers claim Estonia will advance, but I don’t knoooooooow about thaaaaat -- Sandra Diaz-Twine. The first issue is the live voice: Victor can barely sing “Storm” in tune EVEN WHEN SINGING IT OVER THE CD-TRACK WHICH FEATURES HIS OWN AUTOTUNED VOICE. In a format such as ESC where *all* of the voices MUST be live, there no way he’ll sound good.  Secondly, um the song is boring and shit and generic and trash and STANDS OUT as those things compared to the other songs in the SF. AND Victor’s draw puts him behind Hatari’s sado-mascochistic punkfest and Conan’s savant garde fado fable. You need to be fucking ICONIC to stand a chance between those two and honestly, name a human less deserving of being refered to as “iconic” as Victor Crone. Third of all, it’s Estonia. Estonia is all about being overrated by the netizens. I fall for it every year, because you know, this feeling of wishful thinking is REAL (DAYUM -- Alen Chicco), but not this time!! In all fairness, given how open SF1 is, I would not be too shocked if Victor DID qualify, but “Storm” feels more like a song that juries would like due to the Lowest Common Denominator (but less so than normally because juries do NOT like Estonia for some reason) (jealousy) and I believe the audience will largely ignore “storm” due to its lack of memorability. The only trump card Estonia have is the augmented reality gimmick and it’s hard to gauge how effective it will prove to be in a SF that, you know, features anti-capitalist bondage, live re-enactments of Edward Scissorhands and deepthroating contraltos dressed up like John Waters characters. 

Projected placement: 7th-15th in the semifinal. If he qualifies, bottom 10 in the finale.

Maaaaaaan, you can see the exact moment when pandemic boredom suddenly turned into more art motivation than I've had in YEARS lol. Quarantine really just said "Heyyyyy, remember that art thing you used to love? Why don't you try doing that again, cause what else are ya gonna do with all that free time, right?" Went from quick sketches, to portraits, to full on illustrations by the end of the year, and D&D and CritRole played no small part in reigniting that interest. And there's more stuff too that I either couldn't fit in or was part of a project that hasn't been released to the public yet, so that's pretty wild! 1. Have you ever been out of the country? If so, where?

i have! just once, right after i graduated from high school. my mom, bro, and i did like this little tour thing around england, ireland, scotland, and wales. it was like....for 2 weeks, i think? loads of fun, although i mostly remember us just like eating the same breakfast every morning bc the hotels all served the same thing.

2. Onions - yes or no?

yes, i guess? i do love me some onion rings, and if it's a part of a meal i didn’t cook i’ll eat ‘em but. i won't ever put it on anything that i make. eh.

3. What’s the best kind of cookie?

oh maaaaaaan i don’t know. chocolate chip is a classic, can’t go wrong there. also love me some snickerdoodles. there’s this one bakery, where we get all of our cakes for birthdays and stuff, that have like super good sugar cookies that i would, in fact, sell a limb for. 

4. What do you think draws you in to make you attach to a show or character?

man, for shows? light hearted fun. especially if it has something of a silly premise. i mean, it can go into darker territories at times but. i don’t know, there have been very few shows that were just super dark that had my interest the whole way through - and even then they had a lot of comedy and lighthearted moments thrown in somewhere.

as for characters..... ones who try their best to be good but always have things blow up in their face? those seem to be the ones i walk away loving the most. also characters who are parents or parental or whatever. and if they somehow are both? well dip damn.

5. What has made you smile today?

friends, my parents, freaking saw that one game grumps video with big zam for the first time and nearly died laughing.

6. Do you collect anything?

i got way more dbz figures than i have any right to have. if things continue as they have, i’ll probably end up having quite the transformers toys collection too (as is i only got a few of those).

7. Do you have a favorite (or funny) tumblr memory?

YO WHEN REDA AND KAIRI JUST MESSAGED MEGAN AND I ON OUR DBZ BLOG AND WE GOT SKYPES AND PLANNED TO MEET AT AKON THAT WAS SO FUCKING AMAZING. y’all are the best. the very best. definitely the best thing to come about having that blog.

8. What’s one thing you wish your parents had taught you earlier in life?

how to get a job. and function on my own.

9. Do you live in the past, in the present, or for the future?

idk. i guess in the past, although i’m constantly stressed about the future and what i gotta do. i don’t know.

10. What’s a typical day like for you?

get up, sit on my butt, maybe do something productive like clean or write or edit. if i got classes, i go to those. try to find a job but then get discouraged.. then i stay up way later than i should and crash on my bed at an unreasonable time.

11. Do you have siblings? If yes, do you have any routines that you share or specific things you do together? If no, do you wish you did?

i got my one younger bro. and tbh recently the only routines we’ve had is him and his gf constantly forgetting that they share a house with me and dad and just driving us up a god damn wall.

i mean i would like to hang out with him more, but we just. don’t have anything in common. even when it comes to movies or shows that we actually both like, we don’t approach watching them the same way. we watched fmab for a long time but then he just. never wanted to finish it so we never did and that was the last time we ever did something together that was just the two of us. honestly if we didn’t share a living space i doubt we’d really interact much at all besides sending those typical good wishes around holidays and birthdays and stuff.
