This is a vote in favor for hearing about your links meet au! Either as febuwhump or in general. How did you end up with 33 links???
>:) anon you enable me <3 a dangerous thing to do
the short answer to your question is that I wanted to make it as complicated as I possibly could hjfgsdjh because why not. The actual answer is that I approached making the characters from the perspective of every game having its own unique Link. So the Link from OoT is a separate, unrelated Link from the one from MM, for example. Every Link only had the one adventure.
I also included the Hero's Shade from TP, the og Hero from the Skyward Sword Manga, The Hero of Men from the MC intro, and the two Links from Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity. I also split the Links from the two Four Swords games into four permanently, so that's like 8 of the headcount there hgfsjhkj I haven't added anything for TotK yet, but that Link will join the lineup to make it 34 when the game comes out.

Almost every Link in the Linked Universe chain has siblings...and I felt the need to bring that up.
So lets do dis
In reverse time-line order, starting with the flooded time-line.
Warriors - Linkle
Maybe they're parents only thought of a girl name and when they had a boy they didn't know what to do, so they just recycled. I like to think they're twins...because that would make them the same height and I like to imagine Linkle is a swol tall lady :)
Wind - Aryll
It's caaaaaaannnooon
Legend - Zelda
In A Link to the past, just before Legend's uncle dies, he says something along the lines of "Princess Zelda is your..." he didn't finish his sentence, but most people (myself included) believe he was going to say sister. Also princess legend can step on my soul.
Hyrule - :/
He is one of the few who quite honestly had absolutely nobody. I think that he and his Zelda had a strangers -> friends -> sibling energy -> crushes -> confused -> ??? -> lovers kinda relationship. Cause the Zelda from his first adventure and Zelda from his second are two different people. The first time he sees the second Zelda, she's in a coma, the first time he actually meets the second Zelda is when his adventure is over...but they kissed so...idk. the point is, no siblings for Hyrule :(
Wild - literally everyone
There's a lot of fics and headcannons that Wild is touch deprived as all hell, and while I completely agree with that, he could get his fix of physical affection almost anywhere. In the Zora's Domain especially. If Wild and Mipha were to be married as they planned, Sidon was going to get a big brother-in-law. Not to mention Sidon seems very touchy. In the Rico Village, Saki signed the hypothetical adoption papers as soon as Wild and Tulin got along. If he spends enough time in Kakariko, Wild and Paya could have that sibling energy. Long story short, he could get that sweet sweet brotherly/sisterly love from almost anywhere.
Twilight - the Oridon kids
This is also cannon, and by laws of adoption, Twilight and Colin are actually related...moving on
Time - Saria, Zelda/Shiek, Warriors
Saria was his big sister no questions asked. Time got left, as a baby, in a magical forest with immortal children. Saria saw an opportunity to be a caretaker and was like 'frick yeah!'.
Shiek was a mentor to teenage Time, they had many encounters and I like to think that Shiek slowly became more and more attached to the kid and worried more and more for him. Shiek and by association, Zelda sees Time as a little brother. But Shiek gave Time his bisexual awakening without even trying.
During the War across the Ages (Hyrule Warriors) sweet little Mask and his Skull Kid friend were kicking butt in battle. At the time, sweet little Mask was 10, maybe 11 (maybe both, he coulda had a birthday). Warriors did not like that a literal child was fighting people...and winning. So he kept a close eye on him, signing the hypothetical adoption papers with almost every other adult there. Lana, Zelda, Midna, Impa, Ravio, Marin, and every one of the soldiers were now these kids guardians. Kids being; sweet little Mask, Skullkid, Tetra, Wimdy, and Medly.
Four - ???
I'll be perfectly honest, I haven't finished either of his games. I've started Four Sword, but I haven't even seen Minished Cap so...I have no idea.
Sky - :/
Sky is kinda a toss up, the people of Skyloft either seem like the friendly parent friends or the neutral, we're friends but we're not, teens. Sky and Zelda probably had a friends -> sibling energy -> crushes -> lovers relationship, but the sibling energy phase lasted...maybe a week, before they secretly loved eachother. You could say that Groose gave Sky that sweet, sweet brotherly love after his adventure (and if you do, I fully agree) so he's got that. In conclusion, Sky has a bunch of mutuals, but not a lot of real friends, and only a little sibling energy with one person, but he's got a cool af girlfriend to balance it out.
I should say that this is before any of them meet eachother. Hyrule obviously gets his brotherly love from Wild and Legend. Sky gets it from Four and Warriors. And everyone else gets it from everyone else. Twilight is the big brother of the group, Warriors is big brother to Twi. Dad is the Time. And everyone loves everyone (including Legend and Warriors).

Desert Sun, Chapter 11
The days leading up to when Ganon would supposedly return were horribly slow. One by one, the Champions had brought their divine beasts to the desert in preparation. Sword training came last, and it was brutally tough. The days were spent sweating and practicing, complete with morning and evening patrols, and the nights were spent breathlessly with Link. But the stress was beginning to wear on everyone, and tensions were running high.
To make things worse, Yiga and monsters were becoming more common in the desert, wreaking havoc on travelers and merchants. The Gerudo were kept busy just trying to keep the town free of them, since they continually tried to get in. Ganon was obviously getting ready.
When the townspeople did manage to catch a young Yiga - who was actually a deserter from Kakariko, and who turned himself in - the young man admitted to having placed the You Have One Month notes. He apparently regretted joining the clan, and requested to be sent back to Kakariko so he could own up to his crimes, but the Gerudo didn’t even have the resources to escort him out of the desert. They kept him for questioning instead, and today, Link and Zelda were finally going to meet him.
The dungeons beneath the city weren’t used much, and the guards had had to begrudgingly clean out a cell before keeping the ex-Yiga there. When Link and Zelda headed downstairs to meet with him, the man looked mostly disinterested in their presence.
“This is Link, Hyrule’s chosen hero, and I am Princess Zelda of the Gerudo,” she introduced herself. The man - who really looked more like a teenager, now that Zelda looked at him - let out a sigh.
“Kita,” he replied, brushing brown hair from his eyes.
“First off, I wanted to say thank-you for the notes,” Zelda began, noting the surprise that lit up in Kita’s hazel eyes as soon as she spoke. “It has given us the foresight we needed to prepare for Ganon’s return. And thank-you for handing yourself in to us,” she added.
Kita looked like he knew there was more than just gratitude coming, and hugged his knees in tight towards himself. Zelda glanced sideways at Link, and the knight stepped forward.
“We wanted to know what exactly Ganon is planning,” Link said, and Kita let out a light laugh.
“I wish I could tell you,” he replied, looking up at them honestly. “But even the high-ranking Yiga don’t know. Just that he’s moving on the solstice.”
“Moving?” Link and Zelda spoke in unison. Kita nodded.
“Yeah. He’s not in the desert right now. He’s been storing monsters, like he had been in the valley of the heroines, in various spots around Hyrule. He’s bringing them all to attack Gerudo town. That’s - that’s pretty much all I know.”
“Pretty much?” Link asked. Kita shuffled, looking uncomfortable.
“There was a rumor that… that he’d attack the divine beasts. To keep them occupied, so they wouldn’t be on him. And that he would use them somehow, too. But, I don’t know, that seems… I don’t know how even Ganon could do that.”
Kita trailed off, shuddering a little and resting his chin in his hands. Zelda couldn’t hide the look of horror on her face. There were monsters all over Hyrule? And the Divine Beasts - he wanted to use them somehow? But only the Champions could pilot them. How on earth could he gain control?
“Are you going to send me back to Kakariko?” Kita asked suddenly, looking hopeful. Zelda was snapped out of her stupor, and shook her head.
“No, I’m sorry. We don’t have a single hand on deck that’s free. There are other priorities.”
“Kakariko is going to punish you anyways,” Link interjected then, “why do you want to go back so badly?”
Kita looked like he was wondering for a moment whether or not to tell them, and then finally the boy sighed.
“So I won’t be here when Ganon attacks.”
As Link and Zelda left back up the stairs to go meet with the Champions once more, Link took hold of her wrist, stopping her in one of the narrow dungeon hallways. She stopped, but didn’t look at him. She knew what he was going to say. She knew it, and because of that, she couldn’t look him in the eyes.
“Zelda.”
Voices from Gerudo chatting outside were muffled through the thick sandstone walls, and she stared hard towards the floor, shuffling one foot forwards a little.
“Zel. You heard what he said. We have to ask for volunteers.”
She turned abruptly to look at Link, sunlight filtering in through slotted windows onto his face. She didn’t know what to say, but knew that she didn’t necessarily have to speak, either. Link understood, she knew he did. She knew he hated asking for help or even admitting that he needed help at all, even if the situation was futile.
“We’re spread so thin,” Link urged.
“But the royal guard, the Sheikah, they - they have their own homes to protect,” Zelda protested.
“There’ll be nothing left to protect if we don’t win,” the blond replied quietly, and Zelda knew there was nothing she could say back. If she at least had her sealing power and her triforce, then perhaps they would stand a chance, but as it was they barely had any warriors to fight. Gerudo had never had a huge population. But the image in Zelda’s mind of her, Link, and the four champions against Ganon… well, that clearly wasn’t going to be the reality of it. Now, it was a numbers game.
“We need a proper army,” Link said sternly. “I can get the royal guard. And the Sheikah I’m sure, too. Mipha, Revali, and Daruk, can go to fetch their best and bring them back. Hateno and East Post also have some formidable fighters,” the blond added, and Zelda was suddenly incredibly grateful for his knowledge on the settlements around Hyrule. She wouldn’t have known where to look first, besides the castle. Still, she didn’t know what to say; Ganon’s words from the earlier night weighing heavily on her shoulders.
Link must have noticed, because his hand slid from her wrist to grasp at her fingers.
“There’s something else?”
“Well -” she thought about saying, no, nevermind, but knew that Link wouldn’t let her leave anything like that unspoken. It was a little annoying, but kept her accountable to her thoughts.
“That night that… that Ganon came in,” she began, looking up at Link cautiously, “he said something to me about how Hylia had chosen you to string along. You know, with us reincarnating, and all. And that it was characteristic of me to use those around me, like I did with Revali and the sword.”
“Zelda-” Link’s lips dropped open, and he reached for her, but she shook her head.
“No,” she replied, smiling weakly, “if you hug me, I’ll just cry. I’m okay, really,” she assured him, giving him one last look with as much confidence as she could possibly muster. He didn’t seem happy to hear her mention crying, but dropped his arm nonetheless.
“None of us see you that way,” Link assured her, and she nodded, swallowing. “The Champions want to help.  Revali included, even if he doesn’t act like it,” he added bitterly, and Zelda stifled a laugh.
“It doesn’t make asking people to risk their lives any easier.”
“Don’t take this the wrong way,” Link said then as they began to walk back up and out of the long hallway, “but they’re not just doing it for you. They know that Hyrule depends on it. If someone can, I think they generally want to contribute,” he added thoughtfully, and she glanced back over her shoulder to look at him gratefully.
“Thank-you, Link.”
The sun greeted them as they walked up the steps and found themselves once again at the city walls. Zelda let herself stall briefly, enjoying the hot rays for a minute before finally heading into the war tent after Link had gone in. Explaining the plan to the Champions went over relatively well, although she hated to see the looks on their faces when she told them of what Kita had said about the monsters.
“No time to waste,” Revali sighed, getting to his feet and stretching one wing out, then the other. “I’ll be back the fastest, no doubt, so I can go now.”
“There’s one more thing,” Zelda interrupted suddenly, though she was not at all impatient to relay the other warning Kita had given them.
“There was a rumor that Ganon… will try to take control of the Divine Beasts, somehow. So I need to warn you to be on your guard as the solstice nears.”
“You don’t need to tell us that,” Urbosa replied after a moment of silence. “Of course, that isn’t good news,” the chieftain continued, standing with a sigh from the table, “but we knew what we were signing up for. Revali, as soon as you’re back, Mipha and Daruk can head out. I’m going to go now to visit King Rhoam.”
Zelda’s shoulders dropped.
“When will you be back?”
“Right on time, probably,” Urbosa guessed. “Don’t worry, little bird. Naboris and I will be here to help. You know I want to play my part in beating Ganon to a pulp,” she reassured her, seeing the worry in Zelda’s eyes. The older woman planted a light kiss on Zelda’s forehead and then left the tent. Revali passed by her other side, and rested a wing briefly on her shoulder reassuringly before disappearing through the tent flaps behind Urbosa. The wind whipped up a moment later as the Rito took of, shaking the tent fabric.
Having the Champions away from town was not ideal. It had been bad enough when they were gone one at a time to get the Divine Beasts. Now, it was likely that by tomorrow, her, Revali, and Link would be the only ones at home. Urbosa, Mipha, and Daruk wouldn’t be there until the day of the solstice.
“Princess… how far away exactly is the solstice, now?” Daruk asked, sounding like he was already nervous to hear the answer.
“Two days.”
That night, Mipha and Link helped the evening patrol while Daruk and Zelda went over some of the controls for Vah Rudania. When the Princess finally left for bed, relieved that Link at least didn’t have to sneak away from Revali tonight, she was surprised when the knight didn’t show up at the usual time. She suspected that the evening patrol had been somewhat eventful with Yiga and monsters, but stopped herself from worrying as much as she could have. Zelda ended up dozing off early, candle still lit on the bedside table.
She stirred when Link finally arrived. The candle had nearly burnt out when the voe carefully swept a hand over her cheek.
“Zel. Sorry I’m late.”
“Mm,” she replied tiredly, rolling over and stretching. “Everything okay?”
“...yeah,” Link replied, looking away from her as he stood and began to undress. Zelda sniffed, looking up at the ceiling while she tried to will herself to wake up a little bit.
“Are you sure?” she asked, a bit late at realising his tone of voice. He looked at her over his shoulder as he stepped out of his pants.
“You’re getting too good at reading me,” he sighed, and Zelda smiled to herself as she propped her cheek up on one hand.
“You could read me from day one, so it’s only fair,” she said back, and Link laughed a little in response. He sunk into bed with a sigh, pulling Zelda close as she wrapped one arm over his stomach and rested her head on his chest.
“Mipha, tonight… I think she proposed to me.”
“Mmm. Wait, what?”
Zelda had been almost falling back asleep by the time Link spoke, but now she had no trouble staying awake.
“She proposed?”
“I think so,” Link said, still concentrating on the ceiling. Zelda rolled to her front, looking at him in disbelief.
“You think so.”
“Well she… said she had something to give me back home. And that she wanted to spend more time together with me, when all of this is done. A lot more.”
His blue eyes flicked down to her briefly.
“...and?” Zelda replied, “what did you say?”
“I told her I was seeing someone,” Link replied, eyebrows raised as he looked back at the ceiling. “I didn’t know what else to say.”
“You knew that she liked you all this time, right?” Zelda asked, and Link tilted his head back and forth.
“Kind of. I just assumed she was just really sweet.”
“She is really sweet,” Zelda admitted, “but she was always smitten for you. Was she okay when you told her?”
“I think I broke her heart a little,” Link admitted, frowning, and Zelda dipped her head into his neck in a half hug. “She looked really sad. But she told me she wants me to be with whoever makes me happiest.”
Zelda blinked her eyes open, looking down at the fabric behind Link’s head. Her heart ached a bit. If it had been the other way, would she be able to be truly happy for Link, knowing he was happier with someone else? Maybe, eventually, but it would still be heartbreaking. Obviously he hadn’t told Mipha he was seeing her, and it would be awkward when it all came about. She’d never been particularly close with Mipha, but the two were at least friends, and she didn’t want anything to get in the way of that. But the Zora had always been nothing if not kind, so surely, it wouldn’t cause too much drama…
“She asked me if I thought I was,” Link continued then, pulling Zelda a little closer. “And I said I was sure of it.”
“Sorry, what?” Zelda replied, shaking herself from her thoughts and looking back up to meet Link’s eyes.
“If I was with the person that made me the happiest,” he said, pushing some of her hair away from her face. Zelda felt like her heart was melting, but couldn’t help the sadness that suddenly plagued her heart. Out of everyone, why did she have to fall for him? The one that would be throwing himself headfirst at Ganon? The one that was, probably, the most likely to not make it out of battle? He meant more to her than she could possibly say now.
But there was something else at hand.
“On the solstice, Link, you have to promise me something,” Zelda asked, wondering if now really was the best time to bring it up. They had one more day to prepare, so she hoped that at least her words might have time to sink in.
“Your job is to defeat Ganon. I know you’re my chosen hero, but I’m… not the Princess with the triforce and the sealing power like I was supposed to be,” she added, and Link looked increasingly upset with each word she said. “You can’t prioritize protecting me. You have to put Hyrule first. If it comes down to it, Link, you have to leave me.”
Link looked suddenly broken. She couldn’t stand to look at his eyes anymore, and bent down to wrap her arms around him instead, pulling him close.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to be like this, really. But you have to promise me that.”
“Seriously?” he asked, his voice breaking as he held her close, one hand resting on the back of her head. “I can’t promise you that.”
“You have to,” she said quietly, “please, Link. I couldn’t forgive you if you saved me at the cost of Ganon succeeding. And he might spare me, he said he would, but he wouldn’t spare you,” she argued, holding him tight. The idea of being Ganon’s plaything for the rest of her lifetime, if he won, wasn’t exciting. She knew that Link was too much of a risk to leave alive - and she knew Ganon would feel the same.
“I-” he broke off, his whole body tense as he held her. “I’m not going to let it come to that. I promise.”
You might not have a choice, she thought to herself as she buried her face into his neck, but didn’t want to say anything more on the subject. It wasn’t pleasant. Nothing had been pleasant lately, except him, but now Ganon was threatening to take that away. Hyrule was important, of course. Gerudo was her first priority. But Link was becoming more than all of that. She felt too responsible for him, felt too close to him, too attached. Coming to terms with her feelings for him now, as much as she was tempted to do so, would just make it hurt more if anything happened; so she suppressed them.
Behind Link’s head, a triangle of light flickered faintly on Zelda’s hand, but faded all too fast.

Top 15 Smash Bros Newcomers Wishlist!
Okay, I do have some stuff to stay about and around the actual list, but I know you guys don’t care about all that boring stuff, so LIST FIRST!!!
15) Tracer (Overwatch) – I don’t play Overwatch, and I honestly think it’s influence on the games industry has been a net negative, something something loot boxes. But the fact remains that Overwatch is really, friggin popular, and Tracer is really friggin popular in it. She seems like a good character, and would probably work well in Smash. Plus, it would be really cool to have an openly gay character in the game.
14) Sora (Kingdom Hearts) – Sora is great, and his fighting style would be unique among the sword fighters in Smash. And considering the legacy of Kingdom Hearts as a franchise, and the upcoming #3, it seems like the perfect time to add him.
13) The TMNT (TMNT) – Though not originating in video games, these four were practically made for them, with so many classic and awesome games being made in their image. Each turtle could be an alt costume character, they’d all have they’re own specials, their Final Smash would unite them, do I even need to say anything else?
12) Steve/Alex (Minecraft) – But ONLY if they walk in the same stiff, rigid way that they do in the game! That would be both fitting, and hilarious.
11) Ribbon Girl (Arms) – I honestly can’t think of a way for them to easily incorporate her moves without making her crazy OP, but it could happen! Anyway, she’s on the list pretty much because I think she would be super fun to use.
10) Dixie Kong (DKC) – I’m not personally a big fan of DKC, but I know a lot of people who are, and who are fans of her in particular. So yeah, doeet Nintendo!
9) The Boy & the Blob (A Boy and His Blob) – The NES game would qualify it for a deep cut Nintendo lore pick, the reboot on the Wii was really friggin good, and these guys would provide a unique spin on the Two In One Fighter. Also, if this did happen, it would be absolutely ESSENTIAL that the Down B be a hug, in homage to the hug button in the Wii game. If it was the Down B, it could increase attack power briefly! Or, failing that, it could be a taunt?
8) Captain N (Captain N: The Game Master) – Yet another deep cut Nintendo lore character! This guy almost seems like he was made for Smash. His neutral B would be the Zapper, his other moves could be based on NES sprites, it would be a really cool nostalgia trip, just, ugh, so awesome. They could even build him from the ground up to be one big homage to classic NES stuff, like how Pac-Man represents a lot of arcade era Namco Bandai games!
7) Rygar (Rygar) – My last deep cut Nintendo character, but this one is the most justified out of the three, I feel. Rygar was one of the earliest NES games, it was really cool, and his yo yo shield thing would make for a really unique weapon!
6) Team Rocket (Pokemon) – Not super into Pokemon, but this seems like an obvious choice. If it were up to me, I’d go with Jessie and James as the trainers, but their game counterparts would work fine. As to the actual Pokemon they’d be using, I honestly have no idea.
5) Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight) – Once again, hella obvious. He should just be in Smash. He’d be awesome, he’d have so many cool moves, it would be awesome for the fans of Shovel Knight, it just needs to happen. The only real question here is whether Shield Knight should be included here, and them be a Two In One Fighter. The only reason why I didn’t put her on the list alongside him is because I’m honestly not sure how that would work, mechanically.
4) Impa (Zelda) -I just really want her in Smash. I honestly don’t care if they use her Ocarina of TIme, Skyward Sword or Hyrule Warriors designs. I just really love Zelda, and she would just be really, really cool.
3) Midna + Wolf Link (Zelda) – SO FRIGGIN COOL!!!!
2) Amaterasu (Okami) – Okami was a really, really good game, and Ammy in Smash would be perfect. I close my eyes, and I can picture her moves, her zipping across the stage, her barking at the other characters. And a lot of her moves in Okami could be put directly into the game!
1) Proto Man (Megaman) – I love Megaman so much. It really was amazing for me to see him in Smash, and the way they made him so accurate to the games, even though it clashed with the usual design philosophy of other characters in the Smash? It seemed too good to be true. Now, if they could just do exactly that, but with Rock's rival? That would be PERFECT! Honestly, I would be fine with him having the exact same Robot Master powers as Megaman, but there’s one thing I would definitely have to insist one, if I had any say in the matter: Proto Man is often represented as being more powerful than Megaman, but more fragile. So maybe increase his damage output while also making him lighter to represent that? Idk, but either way, I just really want this character in Smash.
Okay, first thing’s first. Captain N and the Turtles aren’t video game characters by design, and Smash Brothers has always only had video game characters. And yes, that is true, but it doesn’t have to STAY true.
Even if they’re not originally video game characters, they are inextricably tied to video games, by the premise of the Captain N cartoon, and by the fact that the Turtles have had a LOT of good games. Turtles In Time for the arcades and the SNES is considered by many to be one of the best Beat Em Ups of all time. So by the standard of being connected to video games, and to Nintendo’s golden age, they both qualify.
Moreover, I do think that Smash branching out from video game characters as candidates is necessary for the franchise to continue, if it does so after Ultimate, just as they branched out from first party characters.
Also, you may have noticed that there are several characters that are not on this list, being King K Rool, Banjo-Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot and Waluigi. That’s because I personally really don’t care about these characters. And if they did get added, I probably wouldn’t play them, just like probably never going to touch Ridley.
On the flip side of that coin, there were several characters who I REEEEEEALY want to be in Smash Brothers, but I refrained from adding them because they would either be impossible, for not especially viable. And I didn’t want to make this list a waste of everyone’s time by making it 100% self serving. Two of these characters include Fi, from Zelda, and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I want to close off this post by saying that, even though these characters being in Smash would make my day, I honestly wouldn’t mind if none of them made it. I everything I could have hoped and more has been delivered in Smash Ultimate. I am so excited to play it, and I have such respect for Sakurai and crew, because it is very clear to me that there is so much love going into this game. December can’t come fast enough! @supersmashbroscentral

Fanime: Then vs. Now (2017)
I’ve been going to Fanime since my junior year in high school back in 2009, and a lot has changed--much of it for the better.
So, this year at Fanime was almost a completely new experience for me. I’ve been steadily improving as a cosplayer each year, adding onto my costumes and learning new crafts and techniques. I have been a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda for years, and every time a new game releases I try to make the best costume I can for the new release. Usually I have one or two other costumes for the other days of the con, but the Legend of Zelda was always a constant.
I’m not going to go on about why I identify with Link and why I feel so at home in Hyrule, because that could have its own post. What I do want to talk about is the huge shift in cosplay culture and my own experiences since I first started attending.
Before I ever went to Fanime, I attended tiny cons at my local college or in San Francisco. Anime started gaining serious traction with youth when I was in middle school, and the first series I ever saw was InuYasha. It inspired me to draw, and I’ve always loved dressing up. For two straight weeks in high school my senior year, I wore a different costume every single day despite my stepmother picking on me for being a ‘weirdo’. Hey, I may be a weirdo, but at least I’m nice.
I started learning to sew my junior year, but I wasn’t good enough to make my own costumes yet. I was a thrifter, and I got a green tee shirt from my boyfriend (because he’s a long and tall, it was a tunic on me), a pair of cargo shorts and a huge buckle belt from Goodwill, and I made myself an attempt at a hat. I did not have a sword, and that year when I went to Fanime I didn’t have any fun. I was from a poor family and had begged for money for a ticket, and I realized while there that the people with really good costumes were having the most fun. It made me nervous to talk to them because I was embarrassed at my costume. I almost didn’t go back, but I got into Chobits and thought I could make a really cute Chi because even though I don’t have amber eyes, mine are hazel.
Two years later I went back to Fanime on my second college grant and didn’t go as Link. I went as Chii, which was pretty cute, but only one person took a picture and I didn’t have a good camera. The picture you see above is the only memory I have of the cosplay. I also went as Sailor Jupiter that year, and had used a white one-piece bathing suit, sewn a cute capelet with a ruffled trim and a couple of satin bows, ordered shoes online and sewn white lacing to them, and ordered some cat’s eye cabochons to use as crystals. I even made an awkward-but-almost-good wire wrapped tiara. That year a lot of people took pictures, but I didn’t remember to ask for contact information or business cards and I lost out on all of that costume. I learned a lesson that year.
The following year I got really serious. I went to Joann and bought some thin, olive-green suit lining and decided to make a real tunic and do a Twilight Princess Link. At that time, that was my favorite Legend of Zelda game. I was in a ceramics class in college and had sculpted and painted my own Majora’s mask and a Deku Mask, which I still proudly own, and I was excited to show it off. This was around the time my boyfriend and his family moved to a bigger property too, and they had a workshop that we were able to use. My boyfriend was getting into leather and wood working, and we made the shield together. I reused my pants, boots, and belt and made the tunic and hat from scratch, and then ordered a plastic sword online which was similar in shape to the Master Sword and painted it to look like it. I got a ridiculous amount of attention that year, got countless pictures taken and this time remembered to take a lot myself, but I still forgot to ask for contact information from those who photographed me. I was not very good at posing either. I was so excited, I was like a kid in a candy store; every picture had me wearing a stupid grin like a little kid, but I loved it. People thought I was adorable.
Then I got a Real Job™ and decided to kick it up a notch. I wore TP Link I think for two years before Hyrule Warriors was released. I knew if I did that costume so soon after the release it would be popular, and I craved the attention because I didn’t have a ton of friends who had this interest in common with me at the time. I wanted to do something impressive, and the new Link had new items I would have to make from scratch. I was already disappointed that I couldn’t go the year Skyward Sword came out, so I swore I would do this one. I reused my belt, cargo pants, and boots and made a tunic and scarf. I used outdoor acrylics (FolkArt makes the best) to paint the gold and green trim and the details on the scarf, and then I made the hat. I also got a decent foam sword and reused the shield. Next was the pauldron, and back then I wasn’t familiar with foam or worbla work and didn’t want to use cardboard, but I found inspiration in polymer clay sculptures on Etsy. I bought a pound of polymer clay and some spray on paint and hand sculpted the thing at my desk at work on my breaks, using a stencil I had sketched out myself. That year, there were barely any cosplayers from the game and few people cared that I was there. Maybe 10 pictures were taken. But I loved the way I looked and felt in the costume. I was still motivated and wore the same costume again the next year, and wasn’t bothered by the lack of photos because people still wanted to chat with me.
This year, I had less than 4 months to make this costume. My now-husband is an established leatherworker and has picked up a lot of techniques in foam working and even electrical over the last couple of years. Starting at the Breath of the Wild US release I got a crash course in all of these as we desperately tried to craft multiple props and accessories, all while battling depression and anxiety and trying to escape our abusive families. We had limited time to work and limited money as we were trying to move out, but couldn’t find any suitable roommates. Still, we worked up until 6:30 am the Friday of the convention and were on the road 4 hours later.
This year was a wildly new experience for me. For the first time, 90% of my costume was completely handmade. I had more detailed props than I could carry, and my reception was so different from any other year. I lost count of the number of people who wanted pictures of or with me, including several adorable children, and I even had four professional photo shoots. I had a good phone camera this time as well, and I had learned a couple of things in previous years. First, I had learned what the difference between “costuming” and “cosplaying” was and tried to act more like Link. Less smiling, don’t always look directly at the camera, and practice poses. Second, remember to get business cards and contact information from people when they take pictures. Finally, friend everybody and tag everything because we all like to be appreciated. I had every single part of the costume, and I had the bow and Ancient Arrow so I could do poses from the posters--something that was recognizable. JC pretty much made everything and I sort of just painted and tried stuff out. We made something more original and impressive: the light-up Ancient Shield.
Not only did a massive number of people want pictures and give me compliments, but four separate photographers wanted to do professional shoots with me where they requested action poses, natural poses, took panoramic photos of the whole costume, took photos in photogenic locations (like near trees and flowers), and happily handed me business cards. I was stunned. I don’t consider myself a pro by any means, so I was flattered. I had almost decided to go blonde for the costume since my hair is so hard to stuff int a wig, but I would have either had to pay $200+ or chop all my hair off and so I just stayed brunette like in the previous years. I’m also not a blue-eyed girl; I have hazel eyes, so that’s not exactly a match and I don’t know how to get ahold of a good set of contacts yet. Despite that major lack of accuracy, I was wildly popular and people consistently asked me about the construction of my costume and props and I was so excited to answer questions. Early on in my cosplay “career” I had known somebody I considered to be a friend who was very good, and youhave probably met her; however, when i asked her for help she would ignore me and I had to learn everything myself. I didn’t like how that felt, so I resolved not to be like that. I openly give information on costume construction.
Normally I only go to Fanime, and that’s just one time a year. I used to be too broke to attend more events than that, but since I got promoted last year and I’ve gotten more and more into art and crafting I’ve decided to try and dedicate more time to it, even in my turbulent life. JC and I are far from stable at the moment and have to scrounge for opportunities to practice our art, but I never thought I would ever be this good. So I think that’s the moral of the story; you might start out just assembling pieces and think you’re never going to be as good as the best cosplayers you encounter, but as long as you keep trying new things and challenging yourself then you’re almost guaranteed to get there eventually. Don’t lose your motivation.
I met a bunch of Breath of the Wild cosplayers, and one other Link stuck out to me in particular. In general her cosplay was a lot more accurate than mine, but she didn’t really have any props. She didn’t feel that confident about the costume, but then a photographer caught us after the meetup and asked her to take a picture with my bow and ancient arrow, not realizing that they were mine. I handed them to her excitedly and was like, “Go, go do it!” and she was like, “Are you sure?” But she took it and had her first serious photoshoot right there with the pro photographers. I got another photoshoot out of it too, but the best part was that it had been the highlight of her weekend, which also made it mine. I made a ton of friends this year, and that was the best part of the weekend and it really brought me closer to the character I was portraying.
Anyway, sorry for this enormous feelings dump! If you read it this far, I just want you to know I appreciate you and keep working at it! Tutorials are coming soon and I’m always happy to answer questions. I hope you enjoy every con you attend as much as I enjoyed this one.

[Because it’s been bugging me, I want to discuss more about what I was trying to iterate the other night between myself and @usurpxrregalis before the post just kinda.......got usurped, to play off my Zant buddy and the focus of this post. xD
Anyway, under the cut if you care to read a more fleshed out version of what I was attempting to say. Again, these are my own theories :3
This basically turned into me speculating about all sorts of things down there so yeah. Timeline making things all DIFFICULT. I think I eneded up with more questions than answers down here, but I tried to play around with some ideas I’ve had. This basically turned into rambling about stuff we don’t have nearly enough information to REALLY make solid assumptions on so read at your own risk loool]
So, returning the to idea of the Gerudo (and, because it was brought up, I am only focusing on the Gerudo here because...well, this is a Nabooru blog, and it’s only natural for me to talk about/theorize about Gerudo things here) and their (to me) fairly mysterious absence from the GAMEPLAY of Twilight Princess, save for a possible ancestor in Telma.
First, I want to make clear that I AM talking about how they aren’t in the game itself. I’m not saying they don’t exist at all because, if we are to believe the timeline (which I think was just thrown together in some ways to appease fans; but that’s another discussion I won’t get into here), that can’t be the case since they turn of in Four Swords Adventures and, now, Breath of the Wild. Thus, I believe it is far more complicated than they’re just poof gone, or, even the darker idea of a full on genocide.
As with many things in Zelda, this is one thing that has always been shrouded in mystery for me, as I’ve been a fan and interested in the Gerudo from their introduction in OoT (who doesn’t love badass warrior ladies?), I was disappointed when there were only remnants of their existence in TP. Where were they? What happened?
I think we can begin to get answers (or, to be honest, more questions, probably) by looking at Arbiter’s Grounds. Best dungeon in the game because SPINNER and SUPER fun boss fight but I digress. According to the wiki page, “The Arbiter's Grounds was a prison built to house the most ruthless criminals while they awaited trial, execution, or exile to the nether realm of the Twilight.” In this structure, we see Gerudo typography as well as statues that are undeniably the Goddess of the Sand from OoT, a deity I think it’s safe to assume is the patron goddess of the Gerudo people.
This said, an interesting theory I also read on the wiki page is that these details suggest the Gerudo had a hand in constructing Arbiter’s Grounds, which I hadn’t thought of, honestly. On the surface, it’s a pretty sound argument: the Gerudo live in the desert and built it for their own purposes and, later, allowed use to be extended to others around Hyrule. Or there was a joint effort in constructing it. Either way, it’s not an outlandish claim to make, but I’m not so sure I buy it.
One huge flaw I think in this argument is that I feel it would be incredibly unlikely that, if the Gerudo were building this new construct or helping, it seems strange that they would include images of the Goddess of the Sand there. PERHAPS, if it started out initially for their use, perhaps it is not out of place due to the goddess’s connection to the spirit (she’s housed in the Spirit Temple, after all), then it’s not too far fetched. But, I think it is more likely that, if they did have a hand in building Arbiter’s Grounds, it was probably more of the joint effort of the peoples of Hyrule needed a prison for these big baddies and the desert is the most out of the way. After all, the Gerudo seemed perfectly capable of handling their prisoners, and the worst they seemed to get were horny curious carpenters. Thus, in this case, the images of the Goddess of the Sand here seem incredibly unlikely to me (I won’t completely dismiss these ideas, which I’ll go into later).
This said, I don’t think Arbiter’s Grounds was a completely new structure. Instead, it was built on/around the Spirit Temple. Thus, these images of the Sand Goddess would already be present, not something added to a new edifice that appears to be used between ALL the races. But, why would the Gerudo allow this to happen to their sacred temple? It doesn’t seem like something they’d willingly agree to.
That’s because they didn’t. But not for the reason you may want to bash me for, so let me continue.
In the child timeline, I believe there was a pretty solid rift among the Gerudo when the details of Ganondorf’s plans become known, most likely among them courtesy of a key figure I think people often forget about: Nabooru. From the moment Ganondorf began to move on his plans, Nabooru could see the danger in them, not only to him, but their people, not to mention how she felt morally about them. So, when Ganondorf’s attacks on Hyrule became public knowledge, and especially if Ganondorf began to push to fight and continue the assault, Nabooru would appeal to her people about it. Using her position as well as her good standing with the tribe to try and show them how foolish fighting would be.
Now, I don’t think she would be completely successful. Ganondorf is the crowned king of their people and highly respected, OoT stating they worship him like a god (to be taken with a grain of salt, I think, but it puts my point into perspective; until now, the Gerudo probably had little reason to mistrust his guidance). Thus, we have a rift: those who see Nabooru’s point that the situation Ganondorf has put them in has escalated far beyond comfortable levels, and their only choice is to migrate further west and begin anew, and those who wish to stay and fight with Ganondorf, remaining loyal to their king (which, by the way, leaving would tear Nabooru apart which hurts my soul but that’s not really part of this theory).
However, even among them, there would still be those that would probably not want to get between either of them, as well as some of those who stick with Ganondorf and manage to escape when things go south on their attack, and integrate into Hyrule, keeping a low profile (which is why we get Telma).
As for those who stuck with Ganondorf to the bitter end....they were probably imprisoned and most likely executed, as would be attempted at some point with Ganondorf. To bring it back to the Arbiter’s Grounds and the idea of it being built on the Spirit Temple, these events would have the Gerudo absent from the area where they could really argue about its construction. So yes, something bad did happen, but not to the extent of a genocide.
To talk about time, it’s hard to say where this all took place, for we don’t really get a good idea from Twilight Princess. I think Nabooru and her camp would leave fairly soon after word began to get out and there were whispers about action against Ganondorf/talks about Ganondorf continuing his siege anyway. I assume Ganondorf would have to attack fairly quickly as well, for I’m sure the Royal Guard would be showing up on their doorstep to arrest him, anyway (unless he went into hiding or something? But then that leaves the Gerudo WIDE OPEN for attacks...which they could fend off for the most part but if it’s everyone else against them? Probably not so much).
Obviously, the execution HAS to take place some time after if Arbiter’s Grounds is to be constructed so did they keep Ganondorf imprisoned until they figured out what to do with him? Did he perhaps retreat and escape, regroup for years and try again? Or, if Arbiter’s Grounds was around even before OoT and just beyond the map that we see, what did happen to the Spirit Temple?
Anyway, I think I’m more confused now than I was, but I am FAIRLY certain Nabooru probably took whoever would go with her and moved further into the desert, as well as some integrating into Hyrule. I would explain the return of the Gerudo as well as Telma.
I think. Or maybe I spent way too much on this and made zero sense. I blame the timeline and how vague everything is.]

Three things: 1- My little opinion about TP!Zelda’s skill and looks. 2- My deep hatred towards ‘Ganon’s Puppet Zelda’. 3- My expectation about why is Lady Arkham missing after the final battle in the first season of “Batman The Telltale Series”.
Funny…I thought TP!Zelda was the one who is pretty lousy and unskilled with the sword and was the one who needs to be taught by TP!Link. In fact, the only moment I saw actually saw her wielding a sword is when she get possessed by Ganondorf, because anyone (including Cia from “Hyrule Warriors” presumably) who became possessed by him would end up fighting with the same energy ball, same triangle force-field and same rapier that should or could have been called ‘Ganon’s Puppet Sword’ rather than ‘Zelda’s Royal Rapier’!
But if TP!Zelda has truly been possessed by Ganondorf, she would have become an ghoulish practically deformed raving lunatic and a unhygienic dimwitted vulgar masochist who brutally mutilating herself (carves off her own face and chewing her her own hand off, Ganon would’ve made her seriously damaging her own body just for his own amusement), drools like a mad dog, and her three main range attacks would have an the spitted-out Sword of the Six Sages (not that puny Royal Rapier), and tennis-ball of sticky black slime (not of pure golden light magic) and the triangle field explodes in oily splashes of black fire and acid like the whole sewer been over-flooded (not sparkling rays of golden light)…all of which would have been more fitting for the chaotic-evil version of her former self like it should be. And believe me, 'demonic possession’ is not made of 'sugar, spice and everything nice’ and the it’s not a pretty sight, it never ever was and it’s not supposed to be and it’s supposed to be strive for 'carnage’ and 'savagery’ in a good old fashioned “The Exorcist”/“Evil Dead” logic, not 'perfection’ and 'luxury’ for a stupid “Beauty & The Beast”/“Sailor Moon” spoof!
Is Ganondorf too fucking lazy, too stupid, too cheap, too gold-feverish, too shallow, too hung up on appearances, too obsessed with 'perfection’ to do any of those to Zelda other than making her float in midair and given her a set of yellow eyes and pale grey-green skin with dark rune-like tattoos, all of which is only worth as an icing–made on the frying pan of melted dog turd that is the 'dark rune-like tattoos’, buffalo puke that is the 'pale grey-green skin’, and cat piss that is the 'yellow eyes’–on the Dingo-Pictures/Good-Times/Golden-Films cartoon shit cake?! Did the game designers really think Princess Zelda is a incompetent idiot who can’t take care herself even during the entire imprisonment? Did both they and Ganon really think that the ‘most serious’ incarnation of Zelda is just a lazy coward, a doofus and weakling who doesn’t know when or how to wield her own weapons or cast her own magic spells, didn’t they?! I consider the fact that TP!Zelda is many things...but being a boss or a 'puppet', the very word which does not make her an hero because it's upright absurd and offensive, and while it's more fitting for a mean selfish traitor, a sleazy greedy vacillator, a lousy spoil-rotten second-rater and a mangy vain coward (look at Holli Would from "Cool World", Azula from "Avatar: The Last Air-Bender" and Azshara from "Warcraft: War Of The Ancients", they're most definitely traitors, vacillators, lousy second-raters and mangy cowards).
It’s not fair! That is the stupidest idea the Nintendo game designers have ever came up with! An very idea that gotten me all confused and pissed off! It’s even a proper boss fight, it’s cheap shot, a sissy-villain porno gag, a ‘fuck you’ moment, absolutely beyond disrespectful, beyond disgusting, beyond annoying! What were they thinking? What wrong with those Japanese schmucks! What kind of drugs they taken when when they wrote the story for the game? They ruined one of their own iconic characters for everybody! I feel like I see that “Here lie Princess Zelda, born in 1986, died in 2006” written all over that game! They upper-decked her, they made her to looked more like a goddamn traitor, vacillator, a lousy second-rater and a mangy coward! Thanks for that cheap-shot, you ASSHOLES!
You know what? I fucking hate ‘Puppet Zelda’ with every fiber of my being because an sleazy abomination that’s psychologically scarred me for life, it’s a total twisted pointless parody that made me sick to my stomach and is an miserable pathetic worthless excuse of the legit Zelda incarnation that is only there to insult the honer and intelligence of all other 1986/2005 previous Zeldas! And what the hell did the First-4-Figures company insisted to include ‘Puppet Zelda’ as a collectible instead of choosing Ilia?! I fucking tired of seeing a ‘Ganon’s Puppet Zelda’ being in “Twilight Princess”, and besides, I wished that abomination should never exist in “Twilight Princess” at all! What’s wrong with you people, why do you like ‘Puppet Zelda’ so much? You all just couldn’t just couldn’t leave that nasty part out, could you? You’re addicted! I’m not joking around, ‘Puppet Zelda’ is equivalent of the One Ring (it means you refuses to destroy it every time you actually trying to do so), the “Star Wars 8” mad cow’s blue splooge (means you’re porn junkies who don’t care it’s lame/suck), and the upper decker (it means it’s a turd that was dumb into the upper-tank your toilet, therefore when the toilet is flushed, the bowl is filled with shit water and afterwards it’s the shit that keeps on giving), you do realized that it’s not cool...not cool at all! And I also hate Akira Himekawa’s manga adaptation of that game! Oh I swear to god, next time I see one ‘Puppet Zelda’ image, I’m gonna spit it right in the face, give both of my middle finger at full force and then ran my fist right through it! Oh, I’m also gonna tell you something else from “Batman The Telltale Series”! Because, guess what its version of Poison Ivy looked like?
Though, personally, I never liked the Telltale version of Vicki Vale because the Vicki Vale I know and love was the helpless blonde screaming queen from one of Tim Burton’s only two “Batman” movies.
On the other hand, I have a theory–a very long, very late one, that is–about what really happened to Vicki Vale (real name Victoria Arkham) a.k.a Lady Arkham after the final battle in the first season…only reason why her body was never found ever since she was last seen being crushed to death by fallen rocks from the catacomb ceiling. Well, she quickly revives as something worse/deadlier than she already was known as Poison Ivy hence the new alias except with yellow eyes, grayish green skin and rune-like black veins (all which is perfect for Poison Ivy–instead of TP!Zelda, who always looked so stupid/inappropriate with that corrupted eye-and-skin color-scheme on, the very concept of which Nintendo should have canceled and handed to Telltale Games–and besides, Telltale has enough four green-eyed DC villains already without one more added) and yet she still is a harden shorter-haired warlike brunette instead of becoming a flowing longer-haired fey-like redhead…I guess this Vicki Vale is a composite character of all three…herself, Scarecrow (because of her full brown-and-grayish-black leather steam-punk armored suit, her white skull-like gas-mask and her use of madness-inducing drugs) and Poison Ivy.
You remember Pamela Isley, the original 'Poison Ivy’ by source material, she did died when her experiments have been resolved by either accident or sabotage and became plant-humanoid hybrid and same thing happened in “Batman & Robin”… so how did Vicki (instead of Pamela) became Poison Ivy, exactly?
Simple, it’s a little similar to that in “Batman & Robin”, she has a dozen glass vials of the berserk drugs in her pockets, when the rocks landed on her they also crushed those vials causing the liquid drugs to spill all over her, and after that it make her body to immediately sink down to the earth. After Bruce and Alfred safely left the catacombs and before Lady Arkham was reported missing, she literally sprung up like a magic beanstalk and became a walking basket of deadliest poisons herself–however, unlike Pamela, she grows thorns on her shaved head instead of having a long wavy bright red hair and has no control over plants nor does even care about nature/plant-life for that matter--in fact she’s more like Hexus from “Ferngully”--though she does have genocidal toxic tendencies and can inflict people by merely touching them and breathing at them just like she did using a syringe, though she do it from afar using a dart-gun loaded with a ammo full of toxic liquid she extracted from her very own body..yeah she has toxic waste for blood run through her veins enhanced by those drugs. Her body appeared to be much thinner than she ever was but still strong--in a horrible rubbery way (pretty much like Gollum)--she also grow thorns on her shoulders, forearms and knuckles, palms of her hands have gaping mouths resembles a Venus fly-trap, her bare feet are deformed and twisted like roots, her mouth is larger like a snake and in it she had a long slimy black vine-like tongue and thin needles for teeth like those from a cactus or a Venus fly-trap. She can even now puke a tennis-ball of black tar and a force-field of foul-smelling black acid, and she still wore her old Lady-Arkham suit that is now tattered and trashy-looking barbarian-like bikini-shaped. That’s the ugliest, most disturbing version of Poison Ivy you will saw in the ‘fan-disservice’ fashion...don’t me wrong but the Telltale Game producers designed the usual short-fat Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. ‘the Penguin’ as a tall normal-looking man (apart from his nose) who wore a skull-shaped mask no different than Black Mask except it’shaped like a bird’s skull....same way they designed the Riddler as a violent wiry 60-year-old man in the hood. So why not Poison Ivy--while she still is Lady Arkham--be the one who’s monstrous/ghoulish both on the inside and the outside for once awhile? Eh?
In the second season my sister suspects that Lady Arkham will return only as Poison Ivy…and after the first episode called “The Egnima” my sister expect that was her who murdered the Riddler with a toxic dart. Why would she do that?
Simple, just because the Riddler was one of the many criminals (next to the Vales, her abusive kidnappers who pretended to be her foster parents) who roamed free and unpunished on the time when Thomas Wayne, Carmine Falcone and Hamilton Hill were still alive and ruled Gotham, the same time when she had suffered as a child after they purposely orphaned her, that’s why!
While the game mainly focuses on John Doe on his journey to become the Joker (as either an unlikely vigilante nor naturally a villain), Poison Ivy spend the whole season lurking in shadows until the end just like Ganondorf did and pretty sure that both Bane and Catwoman will give her the brutal beatings to avenge the Riddler who was their closest friend, but it never happened when the final episode “The Same Stitch” came up–it instead reveals that the Riddler’s killer to be none other than the civilian named Tiffany.
Guess that why she did it because he indirectly murdered her father, Lucius Fox, and automatically send the rest of her once-happy family into psychological discord among themselves, so her one crime was justified…sorry for the spoilers. It would be possible that Lady Arkham could be the bigger bad of the whole series since the first season and if it was her, she would have show up and kill Alfred Pennyworth upright in the same way as how the Riddler died. But it’s shame that we never get see her returning nor would the Telltale version of Poison Ivy have ever officially existed, but both are the worthwhile.
Anyway… Isn’t that so hard for Nintendo to simply cancel that ‘Puppet Zelda’ a long time ago before “Twilight Princess” was officially announced and released?!
