i just saw someone say they don't like monster factory because of the bodyshaming and like... if that's how it hits them then I'm not gonna argue with them of course, but i don't really know of any instance of shaming... it's either about celebrating bodies or it's just neutral and about creating the character who fits whatever improv narrative they're coming up with. and any time they do go "oh no that's horrifying", it's about some feature that's totally non-human, like having a giraffe neck or teeth that glow, or some feature that, if it were on a real person, would be a conscious choice someone made, like a bad haircut or extremely bad fashion sense.

like, I'm not gonna tell someone who feels this way about monster factory that they're wrong because they experience what they experience, you know? but at the same time it's just not a conclusion i would have ever come to, i think. I've never gotten the impression that they're making fun of real people at all, and something like 99% of what makes the character creation parts funny is the way the narrative and personality of the character unfolds as they shape them.

they have made characters who are fat, sure, but that's not ever The Joke, you know? Justin actually always makes a point to appreciate when games let you play as overweight people because he himself is overweight. they make an effort to vary up gender options, height options, size options, all sorts of variables like that between their various characters, just to keep things fresh. and i don't think giving a character a big nose when not all of their characters have big noses means that they're making fun of big noses, because the joke literally never is "haha big nose". the joke that the nose serves might be just to help shape the face into something funny, but the joke is about what emotion, mood, or character background the character might be in or have, not about how ugly or whatever the character is.

i can't really think of many times, if any, where they've made a character where the whole point is that theyre ugly and worthy of ridicule. most of the time, their goal is to make a character who has an eccentric personality, or is extremely sad, or trying their best, or idk something else like that lol. i can think of more monster factories where the character's physical attributes don't get goofed up that much and the majority of the monstering comes from the clothing/accessories/story they make up for them, etc than i can monster factories where the monstering mostly has to do with what they look like (and only that). like, the final pam isn't that weird looking. if you stripped arby the meathead mcdonald of all his clothes and accessories he'd just be a normal old man.

but then also, when they do goof up a character physically, it's usually so nonhuman that it doesn't read to me as having anything to do with actual people at all. like toucan dan the toucan man. or squirtle. or knife dad. or yoba skywalker starwars rules. or truck shepard. or j'aam lmao

if it felt meanspirited, i wouldn't be into it. and like, i felt like if almost any other people other than Griffin and Justin were doing this series, it definitely would be meanspirited. i don't think many people are capable of not only walking the line here, but like thriving in it, and creating a space to make fun characters with really large personalities and eccentricities and physicalities that reflect those things, WITHOUT it veering into just joking about physical appearances. in a vacuum, you could view some of the creations from a distance and think it's veering into that, but in context it doesn't really, in my opinion. when they give a character long arms and short legs, it's so long and so short that it doesn't resemble anyone, and even still, the jokes are less about how wild it looks and more about the utility of these features and what they say about the character and the world they inhabit.

idk, that's just my two cents. i understand if there are people who feel this way though, because i can only speak for my experiences and they can only speak for theirs. but i just felt compelled to post this because like... that's a criticism of monster factory that i haven't really seen before, and i wouldn't really have gotten that impression just from watching them. especially once the series really got going and they started focusing more and more on the narrative, to the point where the creation segments of episodes like the #noid, turbovicki, daz, stang, etc aren't even that prominent, and definitely aren't even the funniest parts of those episodes lol. well maybe daz, i liked the creation of daz lol. but anyway.

their goal with monster factory isn't to create things to laugh at, it's to create things to laugh with lmao. to create a monster and find how to love them. to create art.

long story short, monster factory is a monsterfucker series. i think. that's not the conclusion i had in mind when i started writing this, but that's what im going with. it's about beauty, power, and beautiful powerful monsters who definitely fuck, for sure

[i figured i can answer this while drawing todays daily and an interaction, so- sure, okay! im probably gonna ramble a bit cos i LOVE talkin about my ocs so im puttin it under a cut, but if youd like to see one of them, please feel free to send an ask and i can post a ref image for them!!! while im always anxious to show off my ocs, when im sure people wont, like, judge me, im always excited to show them off :>]

okok so i have aboutt,,,, 4 hollow knight ocs? five if you include one thats in development-

in order of creation we have,, ram, ilea, bea, and thalia. the fifth is obviously most recent but doesnt have a name yet hjdbhjdb

ram was my first oc!! theyre a vessel with, well,kinda ram-like horns? but more like. square ish? idk its kinda hard to explain without outright showing you. theyre older than ghost, around the same age as broken vessel. quickly abandoned as a failure because they had very clearly loved the pale king and white lady as parents, so they were tossed back down, however managed to survive as they had grabbed onto a ledge halfway down the fall into the abyss. of course, they hit something before they saved themselves, so theyre cracked a bit on their horns and head, but it doesnt bother them.

basically they escape into kingdoms edge, and at that point is desperately trying to survive because they want to grow up and prove to the pale king that they are worthy to live. it. doesnt happen? lol they died :’> but because of where they died, infection got to them, and is basically forcing them to stay alive. they highkey wanna die at this point but hey at least its not noticable, if only for the orange eyes which can be fixed via bandana.

they wear a custom charm that i made up tbh. originally it was gonna be thorns of agony but then i was like “hey wait they wouldnt know where that is” so i just made one up. it formed inside of them kinda? like in their head and they noticed because jkdbcjdbhj rattlerattle. it formed from their feelings of love and betrayal and when worn grants them something similar to adrenaline, which makes them “immune” to pain for a short time when in battle, and kinda like fury of the fallen, grants them a shit ton of strength when low on health. however, its usually only a 20% chance of the first bit happening.

i love ram so much but i made their cracks so over-the-top that i cant fuckin draw them properly dhcbdhjvbdfjh i never make things easy on myself.

ilea is next! youve already seen them. theyre basically my sona!! i had a lot of fun figuring out what to do with them (a friend said im like a grasshopper so i went with that dhjbdhjbdh) and so much fun desiging them (cant remember WHAT grasshopper i based them off of) they dont really have much backstory aside from the fact they pulled a quirrel and remember jack shit lmao. they fight with a bent and sharpened paperclip.

next is bea. bea is a. um. a hummingbird. they are a hummingbird that lives in a hidden area in greenpath and grows a protien-rich fruit that is a substitue for bugs. because they dont want to eat bugs. HOWEVER, if an infected bug comes around them, because the infection cant effect them, they just monch on the infected bugs. theyre teeny but to the bugs is HUGE. like. radi size or bigger. they have a pink ribbon around their neck, as they used to be a pet but escaped and never bothered taking it off.

lastly is thalia! thalia is a butterfly (based off of the zeltus) that had been raised in a society of moths, after having been invited from a young age to join them. seer had raised her. thalia, since learing of the radicance/light, has become extremely attached, creating small sculptures of figures that are radiance-like, paintings that show the light or radi, or just scenery. sometimes has carvings. she has a room hidden in the city of tears, and also has four arms lol. if ghost finds her and beats her in battle, she deems them worthy of the light, and after sitting on a bench (not the one inside of her room, which ill describe later) and coming back, a small painting of ghost can be seen on the windowsil.

her room is large, with a very big window in the background. ghosts painting can be seen on the windowsil in the corner, leaning against the window. there are sculptures in the foreground reminiscent of the radiance, there are beautiful paintings on the walls and on easils that are scenery of places shes visited (greenpath, dirtmouth, resting grounds, and a few other places) along with things that are basically light symbolism. a few easils have cloth draped over them, and she stays at the far right of the room, painting what looks like the radiance. again. she usually gives up her best paintings and sculptues as offerings, in an attempt to reach the radiance. there is a bench right in front of and in the middle of the windowsil. it has paintbottles and a fabric draped over it. if ghost rests on it, their cloak gets stained a random color at the bottom until they chill in a bath or die.

game-speaking, if the dream no more ending is reached, and ghost/the player comes back to her room, thalia is sitting against the wall near the bench and has her legs pulled up to her chest. two of her arms are wrapped around her legs while a third is over her knees, hiding her face, and the other is weakly resting a hand on her head. if spoken to, she looks up and talks about how she feels an absance of presence now, as if something has happened and someone was gone. if spoken to again, she notes how her offerings no longer disappear like they used to, and after a pause, she asks ghost if something happened to the radiance before breaking down and being unable to be spoken to. leaving, resting on a bench, and coming back shows thalia standing and looking around her room, and cant be spoken to, however if dreamnailed she doesnt notice ghost, instead thinking of how much she took the light for granted, and how she wishes she could speak to it and apologize. what shed apologize for, she doesnt know, but she just wants to.

my final oc is in development, but theyre based around a giant centipede (cant remember the name but theyre venomous i think? orange with some blue.) but not much of them has been thought of yet.

WHOOO lemme tell you this is a long one (sorry about any spelling errors i was tryna get this done quickly)

it was actually that guy that we played overwatch with together once.

ive known him since about december, but he was saying lots of homophobic and racist shit, so i was like eh might as well try to make him a better person, but to do that, you gotta get close, and i started liking him (literally @ past me why?????)

so i flirt a little here, giggle a little there, and he falls in love with me. i liked him too, but he liked me to a point where it was obsessive. he was telling me i saved his life and that out of everyone on earth im his favorite. i come out to him as trans one day, and after a lot of thinking, he was like “okay yeah im okay with this” and i was happy

however, like i said, he was really obsessive. he wouldnt let me play games with anyone else unless he was there, and when i tried to watch a show with one of our mutual friends, he gets all upset about it.

eventally, even though he liked me, he started being a real ass. i told him that i didnt really like him anymore and that i wanted to stay friends, and he turned it into this huge fight and ended it with “Forget it... Good night.” - and he used that phrase every (and “goodbye”) every time he wanted a conversation to sound final or like he was going to die if i didnt give him all my attention right then and there.

the fighting continued for a few months, during which he called me a sociopath, narcissistic, not worthy off being called a human being, and all that typa stuff. he started feeling suicidal - even though he felt that way before i met him, he started feeling it stronger because he didnt have me constantly fawning over him to ease it out - and he straight up told me that he blamed me for his feelings.

the fights got reaaalllll bad, and eventually he had a set day and time, and every time i said i was going to call his mom about it, he got really defensive and acted like i was attacking him, saying “dont test me” and shit

he became really emotionally manipulative and just flat out malicious tbh

the day came around and i blocked him because i didnt want to hear about it, and he started yet another fight. he didnt do anything though because half an hour later he came crawling back saying that he needed someone to talk to and that he had this whole change of heart and that he realized what his friends were worth and how he acted really shitty and that he was sorry

but he didnt change his behavior at all lmao

he kept arguing with me, so i started just. not joining as much and not talking to him as often and he got really pissy, asking me if i was talking to other people and accusing me of talking with this guy who he hates (the guy he hates left to make another server with all the people this guy was an asshole to so they could have a place where he wasnt there being a dick and the guy im telling you about acts like the victim whenever he talks about it like?? literally if u were a better friend they wouldnt have felt the need to?) (and i totally was talking to the guy bc the enemy of your enemy is your friend and all that) but he was a real ass about it.

and saturday!! this saturday!!! he was an ass the moment i joined the call so i left and he got mad saying like “you know how i get upset when you leave the call” and i was like “i just??? dont wanna be there if ur gonna be mean to me the moment i join??” and he said

so i blocked him. he texts me saying that hes been mean because his dads been on his back about college, and i said it wasnt an excuse. a few minutes later, someone from the server messages me sayin that nick said if i dont unblock him hes gonna ban me. so i unblocked him and asked for a reason why i should stay. this bitch. this ass. says “because i thought we were friends” LIKE BIIIIIIITCH PLEAAAAAAASE YOU KNOW DAMN WELL WE AINT

anyway we fought for 3 hours and rather than giving me any good reasons to stay he called me stupid and said i misinterpreted the message like?? how else am i supposed to interpret it????????

so im staying, making him fall in love with me again, then leaving.

that being said ok listen the fuck up for some more of my sky highlux trash headcanons

Kylo’s superhero/villian name: THE BLACK KNIGHT Hux’s superhero/villian name: THE GENERAL

eh? EH? they just on the verge of too cheesy i love it ok and so the reason im putting hero/villian is because i want them to actually graduate high school as heroes and then turn to villians later (since in sky high they didnt actively support becoming villians and i dont want to split the school up into “heroes” and “villians” essentially kylo hux phasma all the “bad guys” will just be like how Lash and Speed are were theyre just kinda bullies i guess??)

anyway also remember how i mentioned in my big main headcanon post part of the storyline where hux has kylo’s powers and kylo is like “bruh give me them back” and hux is like “do this thing for me and i’ll give them back” but I didn’t know what the thing should be?? I DO NOW

ok so hux is super science techno nerd right? well he comes across plans to make a super powerful laser sword (coughlightsabercough) and he’s like yyeeessss i need to make this thing is it requires a kyber crystal to activate it and guess what those are SUPER rare and too expensive even for him to buy off superEbay

BUT low and behold hux finds out, by way of being a super teacher’s pet and lab assistant, that Mr. Medulla actually has two (2) kyber crystals locked up in a safe in his room (in which the scene would go like hux asking about kyber crystals and mr medulla being like oh do you want to see one! and pulls one out of the safe thus allowing hux to memorize the code to get into it or whatever is needed to get in no it should be a tumbler type of safe because then hux will actually have to give kylo back his powers so that he can use them to unlock the safe and then it’s a trust issue yessss (or even maybe it was a code but mr medulla changed it for some reason??))

so but hux like asks if he can have one for a project but mr medulla is like lol nope i only give them to seniors who i think are worthy or something and poor freshie hux (should they be freshmen... yeah but all this is like second semester cause they need to be integrated into the school already cause i feel like it’d be weird if they were like juniors and had never met idk) is like HRMPH I WILL GET IT MARK MY WORDS

BUT THEN in comes transfer student Rey from across the seas and she’s a TECHNOPATH OOOO! so despite being a freshman she shows great skill over her powers and mr medulla is like lol hey wanna build a laser sword?? so he gives her one of the crystals and this is when hux REALLY wants that other one because fuck you mr medulla (medulla can probably sense hux’s evil side which is why he’s not giving it to him lol)

BUT SO of course kylo gets the crystal for him and watches as hux builds this laser sword by hand (”Why dont you go steal the technopath’s powers? wouldn’t it make this a whole lot easier?” “You don’t need superpowers for everything. Especially when your mind is quite capable enough in and of itself.”) but then hux fucking sucks at using it since he has no weapons training but guess who doooeessss yyeeAAHHHH BOOOIIIII KYLO THATS WHO

maybe they should be seniors so that if they get in trouble for stealing the crystal it’s like lol we’re close enough to graduate anyway see ya suckers idk ill have to marinate on that idea

but anywho so of course Rey also builds her sword and is practicing with it and they probably have a showdown at prom or something or else no one notices the other crystal missing until prom and in the middle of a slow dance the principal busts in and is like WHO THE FUCK and kylo and hux are like GOTTA GO

idk that last stuff was just made up on the fly BUT YEAH WOO we’re getting there
