You can't argue with RESULTS!! #NumbersNeverLie #OnlyPeopleDo #KingJames @kingjames #BlackHistory #history #legacy I met him in person immediately after #HurricaneKatrina ravaged #NewOrleans and forced many of them to evacuate/relocate to #Houston #Htown inside of the #GeorgeRBrownConventionCenter His entourage was surrounding him and stopping the multitudes from swarming him! Even though he was just a #rookie he was already "the talk" by coming straight out of #highschool and being #drafted into the #NBA immediately! Everyone knew who he was yet he wasn't the one keeping them away! He was coming to meet the evacuees & see what he could do to help them with his status, platform, and network! There were at least 20 people keeping others from getting to him while he walked. All of a sudden, while they were clearing others from his way, the crowd dispersed and he walked right up to me and shook my hand! I was there to see how myself & local #churches in the area could lend a hand! However, I ended up being greeted by the same man who would go on to become the #AllTimeScoringLeader in the profession game of #basketball as of last night! #HowCoolIsThat 😎🏀🐐🏆 #GoodMorningYall #BeBlessed #CabbyJr @cabbyjr https://www.instagram.com/p/CoZ1td_uM-q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It's nice to be home again. Heatwave hitting Southern California but this evening is beautiful, much like the weather I left in Hawaii so I'm sipping a bottle that came homenwith me from there. This is the R Field Wine Company Maker's Mark Private Selection Loretto 2022. This bottle gives me lots of cola flavors to start that merge into tobacco and oranges. Very interesting. Paired with a classic My Father Flor de las Antillas cigar. ..... This week marks the 17th anniversary of the greatest sustained rescue operation in Coast Guard history. After Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast of the U.S. Coast Guard aircrews launched into the rain and wind not knowing what they would face over the coming days. The first recorded rescue during the storm happened at 2:50 pm on August 29, 2005 by a helicopter crew launched from Mobile, AL. In the end more than 33,500 were rescued by air and boat. The 5,600 Coast Guard personnel deployed faced challenges they had never imagined but they exemplified the service's "Bias for Action" and improvised on the fly to solve the problems they saw one at a time. Ay one point crews were rescuing 750 people by boat and 100 people by air per hour. So here's a toast to those who dared, those who supported, and to those who fought through the most challenging rescue conditions our service has ever faced so others may live. .... “Go to New Orleans and do whatever you can to help!” - CAPT Dave Callahan, CO, USCG Aviation Training Center Mobile, AL .... #hurricanekatrina #anniversary #uscg #uscoastguard #flyuscg #cigar #CigarLover #CigarAfficionado #cigarphoto #cigarsnob #cigarlife #cigarsmoke #myfathercigars #sailorandsticks #cigarsandwhiskey #TapThatAsh #whiskey #makersmark #makersmarkambassador #WhiskeyNeat #WhiskeyAfficionado #whiskeygram #whiskeyandhistory #whiskeywednesday #quote #quotestagram (at Coastal San Pedro) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch8xgIzLtes/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I totally forgot I did this This is how much the world done flipped again in the last 2 years. Let alone 17 years. Honored to have been a part of @donney_rose reporting before he moved from Louisiana. And what I said is still basically the same. In the Heart of the Night down in New Orleans!
youtube
This is a little video I made for #PaulCotton from the band #Poco. I had learned about him while I evacuated to the Florida Keys after #HurricaneIda struck. I had to shake off #HurricaneKatrina part 2 and so glad I made it to Key Largo and Key West. As I was leaving Key West to return to Tampa then to Metairie, #PirateRadio in Key West played this version of “Heart of the Night” and I had to call the radio station to find out more. Coincidentally the day I was in touch with a DJ there, I learned it was the anniversary of hurricane Irma that struck The Keys in 2017. The staff at the radio station were so nice to tell me about Paul Cotton as he had recently passed and his history with performing in Key West. We shared hurricane stories as I told them I was from New Orleans and they kindly emailed me an mp3 of the song. I thought it sounded so beautiful so I made this video to share with everyone. I’ve had no copyright infringement problems so it seems to be ok as the cd it was on was never told to me where to find it. Almost 100k views!!! This tune and “Crazy Love” are my 2 favorites from Poco. It is a great song about New Orleans and sorry the images were all downloaded from google searches as all weren’t in the best resolution. I wish I would have put a picture of the CCC MS bridge when the lyric about the River rising came on but oh well. I was trying to edit it fast and the rest is history!!! #RipPaulCotton

This camera, believe it or not, holds a very special place in my heart.
In 2006, my youth group took a trip down to New Orleans to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that was still very much present. Our job was to gut houses - essentially, strip them down to their bones. This way the government could determine if the house was re-buildable, or needed to be demolished.
We were literally ripping apart people's homes, and they were thanking us for our hard work and help. These homeowners were some of the kindest people I've ever met - as we filled dumpsters with the remnants of their past, they brought us drinks and snacks to keep us going.
On the second house we worked on, the homeowner told us, "If you find one thing in all this rubble that you want to take, then take it."
I found this camera. A camera that, much like the house around it, was devoured by the elements - a shell of what it once was. Given my love of photography, and my love of old cameras, I couldn't let this go - even though I think a few people thought I was crazy. I still have it, and I will probably keep it forever, it's a tangible memory - and a strong one at that.

✊🏿#ArtIsAWeapon Reposted from @hbcuprepschool Today, August 28, is sometimes referred to as the Blackest day in Black history 🖤 and here’s why:
On this day in…
✔️1833 - slavery was abolished in the UK. 🇬🇧
✔️1955 - Emmett Till was murdered. 🕊
✔️1961 - Motown released their 1st big hit, “Please Mr. Postman.” 💌
✔️1963 - Dr. King delivered his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech. 👑
✔️2005 - Hurricane Katrina devastates New Orleans. 🌀
✔️2008 - Barack Obama accepts the Democratic Presidential nomination. 👊🏾
✔️2014 - Colin Kaepernick explains his protest again the National Anthem. 🏈
✔️2020 - Chadwick Boseman dies from colon cancer.🕊
I’m praying that today, August 28, 2022, is a positive one for the record books!
Did you know about the relevance of August 28? Did I leave any dates off the list? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏾
