Sharp class dragons as pokemon types

Dragon will only be used when needed. Go find the previous post yourself. You'll only miss the Stoker and Boulder class. I forgor to say this before but the list will be from alphabetical order from the wiki.

Devilish Dervish: dark/flying or pure flying or dark for the name and unruly nature. It's not metallic, so no steel.

Egg Biter: Dragon/flying or pure dragon for lack of other traits besides strong jaws.

Grim Gnasher: dark/flying or pure dark for vulture like behaviors for attacking the weak and old. The teeth shooting and slitherwing venom immunity can give it a move or ability.

Hackatoo: steel/flying or rock/flying for ax like snout. It isn't described to be hard like metal, so the strength of a Hackatoo is variable.

Raincutter: water/flying or water/ground rain resistant fireballs, water loving behavior and foraging in the mud.

Razorwhip: Steel/flying obviously.

Scuttleclaw: probably some sort of mix of dragon, flying, and fairy. It is constantly described as cute and playful pranksters when young, so STAB play rough could work.

Shivertooth: Ice/flying, ice/steel, or pure ice or cold environment and slicing scales.

Speed stinger: electric/poison, ground/poison, or pure poison for paralyzing venom, lack of flight, and high speed.

Stromcutter: dragon/flying or pure flying for the four wings and swiftness.

Thornridge: fighting/flying for being described as a protector for those in need.

Timberjack: flying/steel or pure flying for the massive wings and their cutting edge.

Windstriker: fire/flying for be described as us using super heated air instead of fire.

There are a lot of dragons in RTTE, and some of them look better than others. But these designs are some of the worst imo (except for maybe the Grim Gnashers), and I think I’ve finally figured out why. Pretty much all the other dragons have small, uniform scales all over their bodies, with a few larger ones scattered on their heads and forelimbs. Their scales form one continuous layer.  But all four of these dragons have very large, prominent scales in one colour, on  top of a lighter or darker shade underneath. It looks like their scales have been stuck on. The smaller scales look more natural whereas this looks really fake.  I have no idea if these were designed by the same people, but given the similarities it wouldn’t surprise me. Or it could be an animation shortcut 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Pairing: Platonic/Animal/Pet-like

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Stalking, Violence, Murder, Dragon eating dragon, Manipulation, Jealousy, Forced companionship.

As the request says you already have a dragon.

It is possible to train Slitherwings with a poison proof suit but this isn't your main dragon.

You probably met the Slitherwing on an expedition with other dragon riders like Hiccup.

It was a lone Slitherwing away from its pack.

The toxic red dragon originally kept its distance from you and your dragon.

You're careful around it as you're aware of the toxicity of the dragon.

You don't get yourself your own poison proof suit until later.

Your dragon tries to keep you away from the Slitherwing but you still don't want it hostile.

Your interactions end up starting as feeding the Slitherwing fish.

Their diet is usually other dragons but fish is another alternative.

Said Slitherwing takes the food eagerly while staring at you.

When Hiccup or Fishlegs pick up on the Slitherwing's behavior they suggest trying to train both dragons.

A back up dragon isn't too bad.

This leads to you being poison proofed by Fishlegs.

You're given the poison proof suit/armor and your dragon is given an armor coated in Grim Gnasher scales.

This means there's less of a chance of being harmed by the Slitherwing, but antidotes are kept on you just in case.

The Slitherwing grows to be affectionate when it trusts you.

Training a wild Slitherwing is difficult but not impossible.

You give them fish and stroke their scales with the protective gloves you were given.

The Slitherwing then grows used to your soft touch.

Honestly, you training another dragon to be used to humans may make the dragon believe they're your main dragon.

However, you still only ride your original dragon for safety.

Such a connection may make the Slitherwing envious.

The Slitherwing could be taken in or still left in the wild.

Either way the dragon may get tired of being overshadowed by your old dragon.

As a result they plot to “remove the issue”.

The other way to look at this concept would be a Slitherwing slowly stalking you before becoming attached.

That would still cause envy towards your other dragon and lead to the same outcome.

Except you'd know the dragon less.

Either way you're none the wiser when the Slitherwing tracks your dragons scent and sneaks it.

The serpentine dragon bites your dragon, tearing off the poison proof armor before poisoning them.

Your dragon may try to call for help but the Slitherwing tries to muzzle them.

While you slumber away the jealous dragon kills your own before dragging them off.

When you away you notice your dragon is gone.

You're devastated and concerned, quickly asking around for help.

The Slitherwing watches from a distance, blue eyes never leaving you as you frantically report the issue.

Unfortunately, you'll never find your old dragon.

You have no idea what happened to them.

Dragon Hunters? Maybe they ran away?

Sadly… you can't confirm any of it.

Luckily you have a dragon you can turn to, right?

There's a Slitherwing eager to have you put a poison proof saddle on them.

Even when they're wild they'll make themselves known, appearing oddly friendly to you.

It's like they're allowing you to train them, which is odd for a Slitherwing.

Like in tales as old as time in reality, snakes are often used to represent betrayal.

This Slitherwing is true to this.

They act all nice and affection towards you.

Yet behind the scenes they are removing all that you love.

You only need them as your dragon.

While killing your dragon is currently the only bad thing they've done so far…

wish the whole "deathgrippers eat dragon meat" was more of a scavenger thing. i imagine that, since dragons are huge, its hard for smaller predators to break down the body, but a deathgripper would have a way easier time! let them be the clean-up crew eating dead dragon bodies!!!

Another extremely late reply but I really like this idea - despite HTTYD having what, 100+ dragon species? There's only one dragon species that's particularly scavenger-ish that I can think of (Grim Gnasher), and even then it's more that they're known for hunting sick/dying dragons in Vanaheim or whatever it's called......so they're not even really scavengers. Like yeah most animals that are considered scavengers don't literally just eat carrion but like??? Scavengers play an important role in ecosystems - like you say it only makes sense that there's some large dragons out there helping clean up all the big dragon bodies rotting around so where the hell are the species that are primarily or exclusively carrion-eaters?

Also it would have, idk, made more sense with the whole "dragons are amazing creatures but in the end they are wild animals with powerful instincts" and "dragons are a part of nature and it's where they truly belong" stuff they were really trying to push but whatever I guess instead of actually making some sense and possibly teaching kids something they just had to make the creatures that are meant to literally be drugged and mistreated animals EVIL CANNIBAL DRAGON KILLERS!!!

Something that's been bothering me for a while is the Heather - Oswald disappearance timeline and how little it makes sense based on what characters have said and what was written in Oswald's letter to Dagur. But I think I've come up with something that kinda works?

For the timeline we have:

ROB episode: Twinsanity - the treaty signing with the Berserkers is annual, Stoick etc were confused that Dagur was now chief meaning that the most recently they've seen Oswald was one year before the events of ROB

this means that Heather is 13/14 when he goes missing as is the rest of the gang.

HOWEVER it is stated that Heather was set adrift as a child and early enough that she has almost no recollection of her life in the Berserker tribe. Her memories also show the hands of a child who is - at most - eight years old and very likely younger than that.

This leaves a >7 year gap between when Heather was set adrift and when Oswald disappeared.

If this had been addressed in searching for Oswald and chicken it would've worked out fine but in Oswald's letter to Dagur he mentions he hopes Dagur takes good care of her.

At this point heather has been missing for 7+ years and Oswald should know that so why does he imply otherwise? Especially with no mention of her going missing?

The only way I can think of this working logically is if Oswald had some kind of memory loss. There are several possibilities (early onset dementia, various forms of trauma induced amnesia, etc) personally I think dementia fits the best for reasons I'll explain below.

if we look at the cave drawings he does of Dagur and Heather, they both look really young. Especially for heather it's clear it's how they looked several years prior to ROB. Which would make sense, if he's forgotten some or all of the past few years, he would remember his kids looking younger (especially Dagur) and he wouldn't know Heather has been set adrift (especially if she was older (5-6) when she went missing) or that Dagur very clearly hasn't taken care of her.

Memory loss may also explain why his journal was so disjointed and hard to follow.

Afaik some memory loss conditions like dementia (especially the beginning stages) have both moments of lucidity (when he could write the letters but still 'living in the past' ie before Heather was lost) and confusion/ideas that no-one else can understand (when the nonsense/dangerous journal entries were written) it's also very likely that at some point he DID have specific questions he wanted to answer that eventually got clouded mentally and made his work incomprehensible.

As for how his journal somehow made its way into Dagur and Heather's hands instead of being shipwrecked with him. He may have seen the island from a distance and drawn the Bewilderbeast skull and then returned home (maybe was running late to something - like a treaty signing - and couldn't stop) and left his journal with the Berserkers, then at some time later, decided to go and explore the island without telling anyone (dementia patients are known to wander off) and shipwrecked. He very well could've tried to leave and the Sentinels stopped him (wrecked his ship) because he hadn't proven himself yet. Only then did he decide to make the most of it and help the sentinels fight off the grim gnashers.

As for his death there are plenty of possibilities because living isolated means that even is something minor goes wrong it can kill you. Disease, old age or injury could have caused it and even if they were usually minor, because nobody was able to care for him, whatever it was became fatal.

Hnnn tough question! I actually don't enjoy modern aus much. I do reblog art of them, and some shitposts, but don't tend to think about them much. If I do read modern au fics it's mostly for the porn :)

There are not enough modern httyd aus with dragons!!!!!! That's my main complaint :') Also people portraying Stoick as abusive and Valka as the perfect parent :/

I did try to come up with a modern au myself, it's still in my notes app, I'm too busy with my other fics that I've not looked at it since writing it down.

I'd probably be a Grim Gnasher! Honestly, I greatly dislike how they were treated in RttE (and I don't like the concept of Vanaheim either).

They are likened to carrion birds (crows, vultures, condors, etc.), who serve an important part in limiting the spread of diseases and cleaning up corpses, but are immediately villainized by the Riders, since they target dead/dying dragons specifically.

The wiki states it best: "While the Grim Gnashers appear to be villainized, in a functioning ecosystem, these dragons are an important part of removing weak animals and, presumably, cleaning up carrion, allowing the food cycle to continue, just as real-life scavengers do."

I'd probably be a dragon that hunts in a pack, prefering the safety of a group, and a Grim Gnasher's strength lies in their intelligence and numbers. "The most dangerous thing about Grim Gnashers is their ability to plan and communicate with each other to outsmart their quarry."

I do wish the Grim Gnashers had acid attacks, so that they're even more similar to vultures (can you tell I like vultures yet?). "[Vultures] have very acidic stomachs that digest diseases such as anthrax, tuberculosis, and rabies, thus helping prevent diseases from spreading to humans and other animals." [source]

Fun facts on the New Generation AU:

Dagur and Eret babysit the Hicstrid kids the most out of all of their other allies.

Gobber is the village therapist and is the one everyone can come to for advice on certain topics (coming out of the closet being the most common one)

Because Grimmel doesn’t exist in this AU, there are more Night/Light Furies in the world, most of them now living on Berk ever since Toothless became the alpha.

Fang, Ethan’s Whispering Death, HATES it whenever anyone who isn’t Ethan tries to ride her solo. She will throw the biggest tantrums ever and do anything to get them off. The only two exceptions are Tuffnut and Puffnut.

Salva loves to bite her brothers, she’s the most feral one of the Hicstrid kids.

Viggo has also befriended a Zippleback, which is how he’s able to get the gas for his sword. The Zippleback was already friends with Savior the Monstrous Nightmare, and their names are Crackle and Zap.

Ethan can’t swim.

Hiccup constantly teaches his kids how to build and invent stuff and is very proud of all their achievements.

Snotlout is very proud of his daughters and will constantly let them know because he never got that treatment from his father and wants to break the cycle of abuse.

Ruffnut will never have kids of her own in the future, but was more than willing to be the surrogate to Fluffnut and Puffnut so her brother and Snotlout could have their own family.

Fluffnut and Ethan have a one week age difference. Puffnut is nine months younger than the both of them.

Runa is non-binary

Fluffnut is trans MTF and has a very supportive family.

The “Troll” that would constantly steal Gobber’s socks was a titanwing terrible terror.

Viggo crafted an entire armor set made out of shed Skrill scales to protect himself whenever he flew on Shockwave, he has been zapped a couple times on accident, which makes his dragon panic.

Shockwave has severe separation anxiety.

Savior is clingy.

Fang is not the smartest Whispering Death out there.

Dante has started building newer and more advanced prosthetics for both himself and his family.

Puffnut has a Typhoomerang named Blaze, he’s an asshole.

Fluffnut has a Thunderdrum named Boomer, who is also quite stupid.

Ethan and Puffnut got trapped and forced to participate in dragon fights, it’s where Ethan met the Changewing that took his foot.

Astrid beats the ever living hell out of the Hunter that had captured Ethan and put him in the dragon fights, making sure that his body became so mangled and bloodied that no one would be able to recognize it again.

Valka technically tamed the Screaming Death, and he and the other Whispering Deaths now live on Dark Deep after their island was attacked.

All of the Hicstrid kids use some of Valka’s tactic to help tame more wild dragons.

Ethan and Salva have tiny scars on their faces from Cloudjumper (they were all accidental). Ethan has a scar on his lip, Salva has a scar on her cheek.

Ethan has a scar on his neck from Fang, they were both young and stupid.

Dante took a Skrill from a Hunter when he was 5 and named it Zappy.

Dagur adopts a baby Skrill.

Dante has a scar on his cheek from Drago Bludvist (yeah, he’s alive too)

Hello! :D

2024 is the year of the dragon! I figured there couldn't possibly be a better year for me to try this, so I'm throwing my hat in the ring and starting a HTTYD themed one-drawing-a-day art blog, heavily inspired by @onewolfaday and @onedragonperday.

I will be drawing one HTTYD species every day, and requests will be periodically open in case you want me to draw a specific species for you :)

With that being said...

Addendum: There is a gap in the numbers between Dragon #52/53 (Toothless vs The Alpha) and Dragon #59 (Sea Shockers). I took a short break from posting dragon art due to some irl events, so the numbers between 53 and 59 are missing to reflect that :)

Addendum 2: It's possible I won't be posting any dragon art on fridays to give myself a break and prevent myself from burning out. I make up for this by posting 2 dragons on the following saturday <3 There are exceptions sometimes, but it's normal for me to skip fridays.
