I recently had the good fortune to spend a gloriously beautiful day in the Yorkshire Dales. The day was even more amazing when you consider that it was overcast and rainy the entire day before.

The highlight, of course, was visiting Grassington, aka Darrowby from ACGAS! If only Siegfried and Mrs. Hall had been there to have tea with 😊 My goal next year is to try and be there on a filming day, but coming from so far away that will be more about luck than anything. But here’s hoping!

Pubs on Lady Anne's Way

I walked Lady Anne's Way recently and had the opportunity to sample some more GBG pubs. Here they are

Penrith

The Agricultural Hotel (Pub 39)

Unfortunately I learned that this pub is due to shut soon so it was good to visit while I can. It's a lovely historic pub near the station with a decent beer range and, what looked like, good food on offer.

The Fell Bar (Pub 40)

This is a micropub in the middle of town serving beers from the Fell Brewery. I haven't seen those anywhere else so a good place for some new check-ins. If I'm honest I was a little bit underwhelmed by the ale selection but the atmosphere was good.

Kirkby Stephen

The La'al Nook (Pub 41)

This pub is at one end of the long high street in Kirkby Stephen and definitely worth the trek. It has a good range of beers and a lovely atmosphere.

Hawes

The Board Inn (Pub 42)

We stayed here in Hawes, which was very handy as it meant it was a short stagger to the room following the Old Peculier they were serving.

Grassington

The Foresters Arms (Pub 43) - We also stayed here. They do draft Riggwelter which is all you really need to know. A great pub with a really buzzing atmosphere on the Saturday night that I was there.

Skipton

The Beer Engine (Pub 44)

The Beer Engine is a deceptively large micropub in the middle of town that serves a good range of beers and has some lovely areas to enjoy them in.

The Narrowboat (Pub 45)

This large pub was quite quiet when I visited but I can imagine it gets quite lively. They have a good range of beer including a dark beer when I visited.

The Boat House (Pub 46)

A lovely setting by the canal with a very good beer range on show. The third of a pint of 9.5% Imperial Stout I had was certainly a good way to finish off my tour of Skipton's pubs.

Leeds

Whitelocks (Pub 47)

This Leeds institution has been serving beer for hundreds of years. It's a great pub, if a little crowded, and serves a wide range of beer including Old Peculier always!

The Lamb and Flag (Pub 48)

This is a Leeds Brewery pub that has a wide range of beers on handpump (including two dark beers when I visited) and a lovely interior. I can also highly recommend the food.

Flanked by sturdy dry stone walls, this winding lane connects picturesque Grassington village with the cascades and crystal clear water pools at Linton Falls, making for a stunning short gay walk in North Yorkshire.

literally saw like 4 dead birds and a dead, half-eaten rabbit🤢

nobody wanted to make lunch in the middle of nowhere so we survived each day on sensation packets, coke cans and polos.

"guys...why does the whole tent smell like dog shit"

on the first day we got so lost that when we found where we were it was THREE KILOMETRES OFF OF WHERE WE THOUGHT WE WERE. Ended up walking for 10 hours when it should have been 6.

played smash or pass whenever we saw somebody drive past us

debated whether marrying your first cousin is a good idea🥴

my friend fell in a hole. I am being so serious. apparently we were walking through an abandoned mine shaft and she just fell and her foot got stuck in the hole😭

karaoke in the fields: featuring "Let It Go", "Bootylicious", "Hips Don't Lie" and "Sheila Ki Jawani"

convinced ourselves that our teacher was a djinn since he appeared behind us out of nowhere at one point

saw some of the most genuinely beautiful pieces of scenery, Grassington you are heaven to me💞

the wind was so terrible I nearly fell off of a mountain

had the JUICIEST gossip session eg somebody's relative found out her dad might not be her biological one and instead could be HER UNCLE.

friend chose to go into a river and she fell into it. we all laughed and recorded the dumbass😭

"hey let's unpack the centuries of generational trauma that we as young pakistani women are forced to carry as all our female ancestors did"

totally trespassed on numerous areas of land. apparently we all thought it was okay to just jump over fences if they were locked lol

THERE WAS NO SERVICE ANYWHERE WE COULDNT RING OUR MUMS TO CRY TO THEM ABOUT ALL THE TRAUMA WE WENT THROUGH😔

But April has been an absolutely exhausting month so far. I have been in my own home for only 11 full days. I have been to my best friend’s place, at my parents, in Vienna, in the UK, and am now finally back only to have my best friend visit me in return and stay until Monday. My bank account is a black hole and I could sleep for a month. It was all worth it but I will never pack everything I usually do in half a year into only one month. This introvert needs a supercharger!

 2. Album of the year? *sweats* i listened to like 36 albums this year (i dont know if that's a lot but i've never counted them before so it seems like it is to me)... i'm gonna go with a NEW to me album otherwise the beatles win hands down... OH duh it’s the applejacks’ album!!! i heard tell me when while listening to the beatles radio on spotify and went crazy and listened to the entire album, not kidding, probably 10 times or more this year, it’s so fun

21. What’s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year? it’s a lot more crowded, for one thing, i keep buying books- and there’s more plants!!!!! i added a buttonbush, a lot of beebalm species, some joe pye weed, columbine, just toooons of plants because i love them and i’m so excited to see them take off <3

22. Favorite place you visited this year? this one is hard because i went all over england, but the top ones would be HASTINGS!!! such a darling town, i was so happy there <3 and then the Cotswolds were everything i wanted them to be, i just wish i was there longer. and then also i went to Grassington in the peak district!!! gorgeeeeous 

25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one i’m cheating here because i didn’t create any new characters exactly but i heavily elaborated on my beloved ~band ocs~ sooo i will talk about my little menace of a singer, danny james. he’s been my oc since i was 12 and i pulled him out of the woodworks when i created my fictional 60s band, thinking he was always destined for stardom. this year i’ve realized he is actually more kind and emotional than i’ve given him credit for, so i’ve been elaborating on those traits, and i also gave him an affair with a 40 year old woman because he does go for a milf now and then. hes a tall, lanky, dark haired urchin of a londoner, a bit of a floozy, really... and i love him a lot <3
