So I'm finally getting to reading all the valentines stuff (for the chocos), and one of the new ones I got is Freezie. It has Tomoi and Freezie, and I thought it'd be really cute! I was very wrong. It was so sad and I thought there was a really sad angsty story to it, so I went to read it again but accidentally clicked the first one... wow the whiplash I got. Like, wow...

see "i feel like i just read a fanfic with an amnesia tag that i didn't see" is actually exactly what happened and i'm not even kidding.

Clearing stuff out of the way first, no, Tomoi and Freezie aren't related at all. Similar designs, yeah, but not related.

Anyway you literally did miss a tag and it's this one:

Freezie's unit isn't a canon unit.

See, one thing that defines the Lowain Bros (ie, Lowain, Tomoi and Elsam), is that they have a really, really big imagination. There are a couple events as well as a couple units that are completely, and i really mean COMPLETELY, them making shit up for a laugh.

They make themselves the heroes of some crazy stories that absolutely make no sense whatsoever, and they roll with it, and some units push it as to make their fantasy playable. (another similar unit completely based on their fantasy is Lady Katapillar and Vira, a Water unit where Lowain imagines Vira going completely Mad Scientist by creating a robot of Katalina to destroy the world. It is how it is).

you'll find some events of the Lowain Bros doing this shit in the side stories, it's the event "Let's Hang!" "Table for Six" and "Walk on the Wild Side".

And it's worth noting that Tomoi has a massive crush on Freesia, who's one of the main antagonist of the Main Plot Storyline. Freesia is a no nonsense allowed woman who is ruthless and would destroy anything and anyone on her path. Tomoi has big heart eyes for her.

They also, never, canonically met.

Freezie's unit is based on Tomoi having an elaborate fantasy in his brain where Freesia, or rather, Freezie, as to distinguish her from the real Freesia, gets a redemption by hopelessly falling in love with hom. And as is , i do think to recall that in the fantasy, in order to offer her this redemption, there is an amnesia storyline.

So the storyline of the vday lines is that Tomoi is sharing with the Lowain Bros what he would imagine his imaginary relationship with Freezie would be like during vday, which includes her being lovey dovey, her being caught back by her past, her trying to leave him behind.

It's really nothing too serious in general, Tomoi is just like that.

.... but that is probably the wildest possible way for you to be introduced to the concept of the Lowain Bros's stupid AU, and in general the Fantasy tag on gbf.

#A lot of Fantasy chara aren't made up about the Lowain bros just to be clear #ex: Fantasy Sandalphon is just 'Sandalphon but before his redemption arc' #Fantasy Aoidos is 'Aoidos before he got Amnesia' #but then we have like Fantasy Lunalu which is 'Lunalu's self insert OC for her fanfic of this story she loves' #or Bowman who is huh. Cain/Captain + Insomnia

Not his first rodeo with dealing with insomnia - he has his spells of sleeplessness, along with dealing with Leona's on nights when her emotions get the best of her.

Seeing the Captain out and about at night was unusual though. In the empty halls of the Idelva palace, Cain watched from a distance as you hummed softly to a melody unknown to his ears; pacing the length of the corridor.

"Now... what are you doing up?" He murmurs into your ear, wrapping his arms around your torso. "Restless?"

"Cain?" Your voice is impossibly soft, as if you were afraid to speak, "What are you doing awake?"

"I was getting a drink. Then I heard the most wonderful song... (Name), you can talk to me."

You frown slightly, pursing your lips into a thin line: "Sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you-"

"Don't worry about that!" He shushes you with a quick peck to the lips. "Let me take you back to your room and we can figure out what's keepin' you up."

The two of you end up falling asleep in each other's arms after talking for a couple hours - the weight of the world didn't seem so heavy with Cain by your side.

Ayer/Captain + Insomnia

Someone walking down the hallway is what awoke Ayer in the dead of night on the Grandcypher. He scowled and rubbed his tired eyes, exhausted from the previous day's training. Sitting up in bed, Ayer made his way to his door when a quiet knock broke the silence.

Ayer made another face of displeasure but his expression changed to one of shock when he saw the captain standing before him.

"Um-?" Ayer began, confused and a little concerned as to why you were there in the dead of night. You just pushed past him and sat on his bed, rubbing your temples.

"I can't sleep." You pout slightly.

"Oh." Was all Ayer could say, closing the door behind him. "Is there... anything I can do?"

You think for a few moments before replying: "Can you tell me a story?"

Ayer nearly took a double take at the request, his ears going red. "What?"

"I like hearing your voice, Ayer." You said, giving him a a tired smile. "Please?"

"...Alright."

The rest of the night passed peacefully, with the tale of a brave captain and their partner traveling the skies upon Ayer's lips.

Feather/Captain + Insomnia

It wasn't your intention to wake anyone up when you snuck into the Grandcypher's kitchens one night - and you could've swore you were quiet unlocking the door - but you ended up running into Feather.

He wasn't the worst person to run into, but...

"Huh? (Name), what're you doin' here? It's so late!"

"Quiet, Feather!" You hush him. "I should be asking you the same question..."

"What? (Name), don't be like that..." Feather shoots you a smile: "I bet you're here to get the leftovers from Lowain's cooking, right?"

You sigh and sit down at a table. I never understand what's going through your head... Feather takes a seat next to you, patting your back.

"What's going on?" He asks. You explain that you can't sleep and had heard that warm milk or tea might help your ailments. Feather brightens up once more and immediately gets to making the necessary drinks.

Once you've finished your milk, Feather drags you out onto the deck of the Grandcypher.

"Fresh air might help! How're you feelin'?"

"Much better. Thank you, Feather!"
