REV. JAMES TRENCHARD: We are.

CLARA DUNN TRENCHARD: But you do understand that he can't know.

REV. JAMES TRENCHARD: May I at least tell him that you've been in touch with your family and that you're safe? It would mean a very great deal to him.

CLARA DUNN TRENCHARD: Yes. I've seen the letters he's written. I certainly don't want him to feel so concerned. I'm so sorry about what's happened to him. I can hardly believe he has to sell the house.

REV. JAMES TRENCHARD: Actually, I think he rather wants to sell it. He was bequeathed a sum of money recently, not a fortune, but it would have been enough to prevent the sale. But he gave the money to me, to help the poor. He has changed, Clara. His whole view of the world and of his place in it is different. I believe he would find some sort of contentment, but he can't, because he doesn't have you. It breaks my heart. (James...) He deeply regrets the way he behaved...

CLARA DUNN TRENCHARD: He doesn't need to.

REV. JAMES TRENCHARD: Please, please will you see him, talk with him?

CLARA DUNN TRENCHARD: No. He hasn't lost my love. He couldn't. But even talking about this... My life now isn't happy, but it's simple and clear. I long for him. I do. But we're better off apart.

I send you a very interesting photograph showing how the concrete dam across the Yser was shot away by a 15" Howitzer. It is pretty accurate shooting and it may interest your friends of the War Cabinet. Hugh Trenchard to Frederick Maurice - 2/11/17.

Pretty good for such a big gun, but it did also take them five days.

Julian Fellowes's period drama Belgravia is an adaptation of his novel of the same name. The plot, which follows the trajectory of a family secret from a party in Belgium on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in 1825 to England's Belgravia neighborhood in the 1840s, is a self-contained story, but in March 2023, MGM+ announced there will be a sequel series to Belgravia, aptly titled Belgravia: The Next Chapter. It will be set in the same world, but in a different time.

"I’m so proud of everything this dedicated team accomplished with the original Belgravia series. I cannot wait for the world to return to Belgravia for this new iteration, expertly crafted by Helen Edmundson," Julian Fellowes, Executive Producer, said in a statement. "Old and new fans alike will be swept off their feet with an emotionally engaging story, memorable characters, and brilliant production and costume design."

Here's what we know about season two:

The second season will be Belgravia: The Next Chapter.

The show will pick up in 1871, three decades after the events of season one. Per Deadline, "the series tells the love story of Frederick Trenchard, who has grown up as the third Lord Trenchard, and his new love interest, Clara Dunn, who is a newcomer to London society. Unaware that his birth was the product of an affair between his mother Susan and the scoundrel John Bellasis, a troubled childhood has left Frederick deeply insecure, which challenges his courtship of and marriage to Clara."

There's an entirely new cast:

Harriet Slater will star as Clara Trenchard (née Dunn), "a young, smart, and striking woman, and a fresh face amongst the society of Belgravia, Clara is thrilled by her marriage to the enigmatic Frederick … but as she comes to learn more of her husband and the trauma he carries, Clara finds her marriage will not be as smooth as she first thought and is something she must fight for."

Ben Wainwright will play Frederic Trenchard, "the young and handsome third Lord Trenchard, Frederick takes after his grandfather with a ferocious work ethic, having built a large business empire. Immediately smitten with Clara, he marries her after a whirlwind romance, but brings with him traumas from his past that threatens his newfound happiness."

Plus, the show will feature Sophie Winkleman as the Duchess of Rochester, described as "the queen of Belgravia" who sits atop the social hierarchy. Winkleman, also known as Lady Frederick Windsor, is a member of the British royal family. In August 2023, Winkleman opened up to the Daily Mail about the allure of Regency-era romances. "Just the way you compose yourself, the way you speak the words, we are in such a casual era," she explained, "To go back to some kind of formality, you realise how oddly sexy it is, because everything's so out there in this current century. There's actually no intrigue at all, so going back to then, when everything had to be so covered up for the sake of propriety, everything ripples under the surface. It is quite a sensual experience."

There's two returning cast members from the original Belgravia: Alice Eve as Susan Trenchard and Richard Goulding as Oliver Trenchard.

Belgravia was intended to be a limited series.

“For me, this is a completed story, although whenever I say this to any of the actors, they disagree with me violently, so I’m not sure we know the definitive answer to that, really,” Julian Fellowes initially said at a preview for Belgravia. “We’ll have to see. If anyone wants any more…”

“We definitely made this as a limited series because it’s really enjoyable at times to have a clear beginning, middle and end,” Gareth Neame, who also worked on Belgravia, said, per The Wrap. “And it’s obviously been adapted from a novel that has a clear ending. So that’s where we are right now. But obviously one never knows. If we find it does really well and we find another way to bring the title back in the future then I guess we would consider that. But right now it’s very clearly a limited series.

Belgravia season two premieres January 14, 2024.

Below is my ranking of the eight episodes from the 2024 ITV/Epix limited series, "BELGRAVIA: THE NEXT CHAPTER", the sequel to Julian Fellowes' 2020 limited series, "BELGRAVIA". Created and written by Helen Edmundson, the series starred Benjamin Wainwright, Harriet Slater and Toby Regbo:

RANKING OF "BELGRAVIA: THE NEXT CHAPTER" (2024) EPISODES

(1.07) "Episode 7" - When gossip surrounding Clara, Lady Trenchard and Dr. Stephen Ellerby reach Lord Fredrick Trenchard's ears, the married pair engage in a bitter quarrel. Which leads Clara to leave her husband. and Stephen in Belgravia. Inevitably, it will reach Frederick's ears. Frederick's business manager, Mr. Ross, discovers unsavory details about his employer's business partner, the Marquise d'Etagnac.

2. (1.05) "Episode 5" - Clara's fascination with Stephen's social circle leads her to make a daring choice, alarming her maid Davison. Frederick's younger brother, the Reverend James Trenchard, faces personal turmoil. And Frederick seeks involvement in the Marquise's new endeavor.

3. (1.06) "Episode 6" - Clara's older sister, Emily Dunn, questions her about a controversial painting she had posed for, fearing a potential scandal for their families. Meanwhile, Frederick proceeds with his investment in the Marquise's silver mine, but Ross starts to doubt her motives.

4. (1.03) "Episode 3" - The Trenchards travel to Maywood for the Duke of Rochester's birthday. Also, Clara conspires to repair Frederick and James' estranged relationship with disastrous results.

5. (1.08) "Episode 8" - In the finale, Frederick grieves over his estrangement from Clara. His butler Josiah Enright receives a letter that pushes Frederick to confront his past. Meanwhile, Clara and Davison adapt to life in the North, while the former suffers from homesickness.

6. (1.01) "Episode 1" - After a passionate courtship, Frederick and Clara marry. However, family secrets from Frederick's past, threaten the couple's newfound happiness.

7. (1.04) "Episode 4" - Reeling from James' surprise visit, Frederick immerses himself in work at the foundry. Meanwhile, Clara finds solace in a new circle of friends, introduced by Dr. Ellerby. A lonely James seek solace at a local steambath.

8. (1.02) "Episode 2" - Following an argument between Frederick and Clara, he attempts to renew their relationship by taking her to Glanville, the Trenchard family's country estate. There, Frederick reveals some of his childhood's trials. Meanwhile, the Dunns take in Nell, a suicidal woman, as their maid.

Belgravia: Next Chapter-When Did the Trenchards get a title?

Maybe I missed it, but did they explain when the Trenchards got awarded a title? Trenchards being untitled is kind of a big deal in the first series. For Frederick to be a "Lord" is a bit odd to me.
