Flashfood Hauls in April 2024
Flashfood Hauls in April 2024. #8bestbags #produceandfruits #frozenfish #addicted
My most favourite Flashfood haul to date – 8 bags of produce (and 1 pack of salmon trimmings) On the Flashfood app, you can buy discounted food that’s about to near its “best before” date from supermarkets across Toronto and the states.  I have loved using this app religiously since June 2023 to purchase groceries for my family and saving money.  We have also tried a lot of new products we…

posting my flashfood code here because if anyone uses it and spends more than ten bucks we both get five bucks: KATI2Z0NF
flashfood is a service that works with grocery stores to take ugly or old food that's still good and sell it at a major discount through their app
i got a huge box of apples and bell peppers and oranges for like five bucks, it was a good ten to twenty pounds of fresh produce
the other day there were a bunch of big t-bone steaks for $7 each
i got a bigass rack of spareribs for eight bucks
Tumblr media
EIGHT DOLLARS
this feels like an ad but it also feels like a dick move to not share a money saving tip on the website for broke bitches
anyway only one store near me uses it but a less rural friend said they had like ten stores near them with a flashfood fridge so it can't hurt to check imho

Installed the FlashFood app a few weeks ago, and have been on a fucking tear of cooking and freezing.
An entire bag of mixed veggies for $5 that yielded a big pot of curry. A huge container of strawberries for $3, that I ended up splitting with my Mom, and still made two jars of jam with my half. A box of mixed cut fruit for like $2 that we made into fruit smoothies for a Sunday lunch. Another $5 bag of like 13 avocadoes and other guac fixings that Marc turned into multiple jars of fresh guacamole. An 8 lb bag of potatoes that became 7.5 freezer containers of mashed potatoes. And that's not counting the stuff I picked up for my Mom to use.
Marc has class tomorrow night, so I pre-purchased another $2 container of strawberries and a big $5 box of ripe bananas. I'm going to make SO MUCH banana bread! I'm also going to make another batch of jam with the strawberries and hopefully knock out some strawberry cheesecake cinnamon rolls by the weekend.
I fucking love this app so much.

Day 34/100.
Ok folks, what's on the agenda for today?
First off, I'm making chicken for supper. You know why? Because that's what was available on Flashfood this morning. Have you heard of Flashfood? Have you used it? It's an app that let's participating grocery stores post items that are nearly expired for half-price. You just buy the items via the app and pick-up at the store. I'm getting $20.50 worth of chicken for $10.50. I haven't paid full-price for meat in over 6 months. Usually meat is best-before dated the day of or maybe the next day or two after being posted on Flashfood, but the chicken I'm picking up today is best before March 4! So I'm making half for supper tonight and freezing half for another time. So that's supper sorted. I picked up some green beans yesterday and I still have potatoes, or I could make rice. Done.
Next up: there's a snowfall warning today. I checked the forecast, doesn't look like it's going to start snowing until this evening. It will start to cool down a bit this afternoon. Which brings me to...
The dog that I boarded last night. She will need a good run today. Given the forecast, sooner will be better than later. I also have to stop in to see a cat around mid-day, but it'll be a quick visit. I could potentially bring the dog with me and leave her on the porch for a few minutes. So here's the plan:
- go to dog-run for a couple of hours
- bring dog with me to pick up Flashfood
- go to visit cat on way back
- home for lunch
I also need to look up the location of some stores in a neighbouring town that my daughter wants to go to, to look for prom dresses, and how we can get there. Was thinking of going tomorrow but that was before the snowfall warning. Now it will be pending the road conditions tomorrow.
It's also the beginning of the month, which means I need to do up invoices. I can do that after lunch.
After that, I can continue with kitchen deep-clean. Not sure I'll get to it today but I'll try to just do one small thing! (Empty out top cabinet next to microwave, where I keep tea and coffee).
That's my plan for today. Time to execute!
Good luck with your plan for today!

Flashfood Hauls in January 2024
Flashfood Hauls in January 2024. #newlogo #iswalmartjoiningyet #thebigsandwich #eggs!
Flashfood’s newest logo in January 2024 New year, new look for Flashfood! Flashfood unveiled their newest logo for their discounted food service (buying items about to pass its “best before date” at savings of 50% off).  I liked their previous logo with the lightning symbol and groceries.  This one doesn’t look so unique (it blends into the other icons on my phone).  Some people say it looks like…

Is it safe to buy expiring food to save money? Here's what the experts say
Is it safe to buy expiring food to save money? Here’s what the experts say
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — For many, saving money where they can is a necessity right now. And for some, that means changing their habits at the grocery store. “Meat, dairy and produce are the top three categories,” said Josh Domingues, founder & CEO of Flashfood, which is an app that has 2.5 million users. The app shows grocery stores near you that have food available at a deep discount, and it’s…

Paid 7.50CAD today for an obscene amount of meat bc I downloaded the flashfood app with your code and it just so happens that one of the only stores in my city that signed up is literally the one closest to my place. All thanks to you, a monster porn (among other things) writer living in a country that I've never set a foot in. In love with the whimsy of the universe rn
my blog has something for everyone, no matter what kind of meat they're into

Growing up poor has given me a lifelong thrift boner.
My phone is like 90% reward point / couponing apps, and we have completely covered the cost of some decently expensive home improvements purely through gift cards earned via various reward programs.
While we don't benefit from most online or paper coupons (they never seem to be for things we buy), I was just turned on to this app called Flashfood. Participating grocery stores will post fruits, veggies and other perishable items that are at or very near their expiration date, that they want to get rid of at a discount. The two stores closest to us participate, so at lunch I popped out to pick up two orders -- a mixed bag of fruits and veggies (eggplant, 3 bell peppers, a salad kit, big bag of grapes and 2 oranges), a container of butternut squash, and a hunk of vegan Daiya jalapeno havarti cheese.
It was under $10 for everything, and the best part is it will help me use up some other pantry staples to make a ton of ready-to-eat freezer meals for us.
Our D&D game got cancelled for tonight so I think I'm going to make a curry with the eggplant and peppers, roast up the squash for a side for later this week, and shred the cheese into some tofu ricotta to make baked stuffed shells. We can have the fruit with breakfast and lunch (Marc even suggested doing another grape pie, but I'm not sure I have the time or energy, it's a pretty labor-intensive recipe).
The only thing I'm not sure what to do with is the "tropical thai" salad kit, since it's not something either of us would normally eat. Since it was thrown in with the other veggies I posted it on our little neighborhood group to see if anyone else on the street can use it.
Very excited to use this more often!

Apps Like Flashfood and Too Good to Go Let You Buy Food That Was Going to be Thrown Away
Apps Like Flashfood and Too Good to Go Let You Buy Food That Was Going to be Thrown Away
Several companies say they are tackling food waste by connecting people with unsold food from restaurants and grocery stores. Every Sunday at 2 p.m., Marisela Godinez, the owner of El Mesón Tequilería, a Mexican restaurant in Austin, Texas, used to fill a 12-gallon bucket, plus another half-bucket, with leftover food from the restaurant’s all-you-can-eat brunch buffet. “We threw out a lot of…

Friends! My buddy told me about the Flashfood app last night and I know money’s tight for everyone so I thought I’d share. If you have a local grocery store that participates, its updates regularly with great deals— typically items nearing expiration or overstock, and they’re usually about half off. My local store currently has some bread, meat, and fish at pre-pandemic prices. Since those are currently our “big ticket items” this could probably save us $10-20 per trip, which certainly adds up.
